Q2            How has the metrotrain reduced the road traffic in Chennai?

A2            NakulSethuram 18-2-2021 Lives in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

In Chennai, only flyovers arehelping to reduce traffic and it’s called as
Flyover capital of India…

Now let’s see the Metro’sinvolvement in reducing the traffic. Chennai Metro
connects the importanttransportation hubs: Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore,
CMBT and Chennai Airport.

Places like Anna Nagar andVadapalani got a transit. And metro is being
convenient for those who want totravel from North Chennai to the airport and
vice-versa. Chennai’s metroridership is low compare to other cities in India
because the city is also wellconnected with other transit systems like MRTS and
Suburban train, not wellconnected to main areas like Adayar, T Nagar, Beach,
North, south and suburbanareas and the cost of theticket is too high. So, Metro
doesn't play a major role in reducing the traffic.

Phrase 1 of Metro rail project iscompleted and the extension of phrase 1, which
is from Airport to Kilambakkamwill begin soon. It willprovide a connectivity to
Tambaram and the Future bus stand in Kilambakkam. This extension project may
reduce traffic congestion and also provide a goodconnectivity from the city to
the suburban.

Now phrase 2:

It's a proposed one, which's goingto begin soon. It connects major areas like
Adayar, T Nagar (shopping street),Solinganallur (IT hub), Madhavaram (Truck
terminal and new bus terminal), beachas well as the suburban areas like
poonamalle. Phrase 2 and phrase 1 extensionconnects the prominent areas and
suburban areas of Chennai, so there is achance to make people utilise the metro.

And also, if the Metro takes overthe MRTS, it would connect Velachery too.

Update-I read today’s news Metroman  MrSreedharan has joined BJP and he may
become a minister

Q4            What is the differencebetween coach and bogie?

A4            SubhasisDutta Roy May 19, 2020 Studied Mechanical Engineering &
Pure Science(Graduated 1997)

In our normal conversation, we mixup these two words to indicate a railway
coach. But actually, they aredifferent.

Theportion where wheels are fitted is called bogy  and one coach rest on these
two bogies. Hereis a picture of the bogie.

Apart from this one word similaruse regularly to indicate a railway coach
“Compartment”. A compartment is a portion of insidea coach that separates from
another portion of a same coach by means of somemanner. Here is picture of what
are the compartments actually .

Q5            Does it really take aninfinite amount of time for an object to
cool down until room temperatureaccording to Newton's Law of cooling? Or is the
law just an approximation andbreaks down at infinite?

A5            AndrewWalker 20-2-2021 Studied at School of Experience

Newton’sLaw of Cooling is stated T(t)=Ts+(To-Ts)e^-kt. When you look at the
standardgraph of this equation you can see the Temperature approaches 0 as t
goesto infinity. So, in a way, yesit “never” gets to room temperature in a
mathematical sense (the t-axisis an asymptote). However, for all practical
purposes you can approximatepretty well at what time the objects and the room
are matched in temperature.

Q6            In Sweden at night, why do many homes leave the blinds open and
put candles and lamps in thewindows?

A6            ChrisEbbert November 24-2020 Lives in Sweden

I also used to wonder about thatwhen I first started coming to Sweden. Over the
years, I’ve come to understandit’s a surprisingly complex thing. Now that I
live here, I do it, too.

It may appear wasteful, but it’snot. The bulbs used for thesetypical window
lights have always been low powered, and in a country thatrelies as heavily on
hydro power as Sweden does, the nationalconscience has traditionally been quite
clear about letting those 95% of theenergy an incandescent bulb consumes
contribute to the home heating effort, anddedicating the remainder to good
causes as I will try to speculate on below.

These days, it’s all LED, ofcourse. I use 1.6W bulbs.

Here’s what I think it’s for:

it’s a Swedish tradition to contribute to a sort of “pretty city image”by
having little lights in the windows; it literally lights up thestreet, makes
the place lived in, and friendly. When I’m in Germany, with itsdrawn curtains
or lowered blinds, the streets at night just seem dead, deserted, and the houses
seem to say “keep out”. In Sweden, it’s very much theopposite.

The Swedes are a very communal people; seeing signs of life in theneighbour’s
house reassures them that they are not alone, and it is myimpression that many
leave their lights on “for their neighbours”;havinglights on in the house is a
security measure, making the house look occupied. Ialso feel safer when they
are on when I’m not home. Maybe that’s just commonsense.

Windows are what the light usually shines in through during the day;during the
dark season, it makes sense to have lamps in the windows tomaintain those
dynamics. I have a little lamp in every window, too, and itseems to create an
illusion of daylight if one chooses to see it that way.

Itsatisfies the home owner to have a cosily lit home to return to in the
darkmonths.it actually makes the house look better, and beauty is a big
dealhere. Sweden is very much about visual beauty, and lights are an excellent
wayto achieve it.

Q11          What is the mostconfusing element on Earth?

A11          PurviSharma, I've been reading books based on science and nature a
lot 16-2-2021

Chemically, the silicates are very complicated and not muchprogress was made in
understanding until a structural classification wasdevised. The most common
"structural element" is thesilicon/oxygen tetrahedron. The simplest structural
class of silicates consistsof those compounds (minerals) which consist of
isolated single tetrahedra - theNesosilicates.

Q12          What are the naturaldisasters that made human life worse?

andPower Research Station, Pune, India (1980-2… ) 19-2-2021

The answer to your question lies inthe question itself. A natural disaster is
that act of nature which adverselyaffect the normal / routine functioning of
human being. All natural disasters have a a critical potential tocause adverse
effect on human being.

1.0 Earthquake of magnitude M = 6.0or more

2.0 River Flood causes heavy damageand destructions when it crosses the flood
line and enters habitat.

3.0 Lightning causes damages inlimited area and the occurrence is very sudden

4.0 Tsunami causes very heavydamages provided the height of tsunami waves is
higher then 1.0 meter or so

5.0 Dust storm the damage is smalland it lasts for less than 45 to 60 minutes.
In the area of frequent Dust storm there is high percentageof persons suffering
from cataract, glucoma and other eye diseases

6.0 Heat and Cold Waves adverselyaffect poor strata of society who cannot
afford to have proper clothing andother protective equipment.

I think the list could be extendedfor several other disasters such as
agricultural, a medical, social healthareas etc.

There have been many large volcaniceruptions over the centuries that have had
huge impact on the global climatefor up to three years after the eruption.

These events have caused largescale famines across the globe; the most recent
case being the explosion ofTambora ( in Sumatra) in 1814 or so. Other major
eruptions in Iceland around1000 years ago similarly bringing about famines or
the events surrounding thedisasters accompanying Justinian plague in the 6th
century AD.

The 1556 Shaanxi earthquake, orHuaxian earthquake is the deadliest earthquake
in recorded history.

According to imperial records, approximately 830,000 people lost their lives. It
occurred on the morning of 23January 1556 in Shanxi, during the Ming Dynasty.
More than 97 counties in theprovinces of Shanxi, Henan, Gansu, Hebei, Shandong,
Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu andAnhui were affected. Buildings were damaged slightly
in the cities of Beijing,Chengdu, and Shanghai. An 840-kilometre-wide (520 mi)
area was destroyed, andin some counties as much as 60% of the population was
killed. Most of thepopulation in the area at the time lived in yodongs
artificial caves in loesscliffs; these collapsed in great numbers, causing many
casualties.

A natural disaster that occurred inChina in July 1931 was one of most deadliest
disaster ever happened.

On August 18, 1931, the YangtzeRiver in China peaks during a horrible flood
that kills 3.7 million peopledirectly and indirectly over the next several
months. This was perhaps theworst natural disaster of the 20th century. The
Yangtze River runs throughsouthern China, one of the most populated areas on
Earth.
