Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Auto scrolling list of tiddler
Hi Magev958 Would it be possible to have a list of tiddler titles scroll from top to bottom like the after-text i a movie? I have a big TW with some 27000 tiddler and it would be fun to show them all :D Interesting. I've thought of something similar: a screen saver storyview that shows random tiddlers drifting across the screen, but lets you freeze the action by moving the mouse and clicking on a tiddler so that you can dive in and explore things that catch your interest. I was thinking that it might be a useful source of serendipity for creative stimulus purposes. I'd be hoping that we could make TiddlyDesktop hook into the OS as a true screensaver, too. Here's an old sketch from 2011 of the storyview switcher for TiddlyWiki 5: https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/commit/c2e99647d02f0bc8d16feac6039b49afb445bc14#diff-12b7f28a28eef72270ce72ba360bfa9c As you can see, I've been slowly making my through them - with the notable help of Felix Küppers who has implemented the link charts view. [tw] TWC Browsers on MobilePhones
Has anybody encontered a good browser to display TWC on a windowsphone? I just have changed to Windowsphone and none of the browsers i found there is able to display my Site like it works on Desktopbrowsers and simulators on Firefox. Horrible. Re: [tw] Links from and to within same tiddler
Hi Mat I think we're recursing in circles. Your trying to make the case for a unit of content that is smaller than a tiddler. I'm responding with the suggestion that we instead introduce a new concept of a document (say) that is a sequence of tiddlers and is displayed analogously to a tiddler today. A document would, of course, itself be implemented as a tiddler that references it's constituent tiddlers. I believe that these two models are equivalent. The difference is that aggregating tiddlers goes with the grain of how TiddlyWiki is designed while splitting tiddlers into smaller entities requires TiddlyWiki to be re-architected. Best wishes Jeremy. On Wed, Apr 22, 2015 at 5:17 PM, Mat matiasg...@gmail.com wrote: @Jeremy - thank you for your reply. Ok, I had not quite understood this was the same as the issue with sections/slices. I particularly got excited from noting that adding a link as described (a href + a id) does succeed in jumping. But, ok, it's the frequently recurring section/slices issue. We need to solve this as there clearly is a need for it. I like your joining idea and have thought a bit on how it might be interfaced. @anyone - a simple mockup: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_5bUYW1Z2nk/VTfEgAKbvKI/RRY/jMVJNLtSQ5w/s1600/MergeTiddlers.png I imagine it as a popup accessed via the tiddler toolbar. For example one might want to *Append* current tiddler to the one *above* and set current title as *h2* heading. I know terms above/below sound funny but preceeding/succeeding is ambiguous because of different story views. Above/below is strictly about location whereas terms preceeding/succeeding has an element of time in them. (...um, did someone just shout *nrd*?) titles list is a search field. Maybe this is not possible inside a dropdown and it must really be two widgets? Ideally there is *also a global merge/compound feature* from e.g the document toolbar, allowing you to select e.g all open tiddlers or filter. Obviously, if the tiddler head is hidden one also has to solve how to dis-compound without that tiddlers toolbar visible. One idea could be an check-box list in the top tiddlers head, aggregating the compounded titles. It would probably have much in common with a Table of Contents for multiple compound tiddlers anyway so I'd think it's a reusable thing @Jeremy I've found the current lack for procedure to include sections has the exact opposite effect on my work from what I must assume is the purpose, i.e that of reusing tiddlers to avoid redundancy. Currently, I'm instead forced to *copy* sections of interest from other tiddlers. I thought about why this happens and realize that the whole concept of a tiddler is ambiguous because, as it turns out, what is a smallest semantically meaningful chunk depends on context! For example, the sentence To be or not to be, that is the question is an integral part in its original context, but as a quote it has a totally different context and must typically be cut out. An area of particular concern for this issue is the coming Federation! As far as I understand, one primary idea there is to be able to re-use content. A different context from the original will likely be the norm ( - little point in mere repetition) so tools to slice out stuff will be much needed... and, ideally, slices smaller than an actual tiddler. Here follow some pie-in-the-sky ideas on approaches for including sections in a Federated context, mostly to provoke thoughts on what needs we will actually have when we Federate so we don't lock ourselves in by choosing limited implementation strategies at an early stage: Ok, one idea might be to remotely transclude (or whatever the technique is for inclusion) the whole tiddler and then to *locally* hide parts of it. Another idea might be to, pre-inclusion, introduce counting to specify desired parts to include (...perhaps taking advantage of the nodejs row counting feature somehow?) tiddler#r3:8@wiki or p for paragraphs, etc. If this is not possible pre-inclusion, then maybe this is how hiding parts in imported local tiddlers, as per previous suggestion, could be achieved. A probably better idea would be some kind of anchors that are automatically inserted, in the transclusion process, from various triggers, such as paragraph start, macro calls, etc. Maybe that same kind of anchor could *also* be manually inserted. :-) -- Jeremy Ruston mailto:jeremy.rus...@gmail.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: [TW5] Is there a way to import multiple tiddlers from a single file?
Of course, writing out the problems leads to its solution (at least partially). I've discovered that, as promised above, a properly formatted json file, as: [ {title:Tiddler1,text:This is the text of tiddler 1,tags:Tag1 Tag2 [[Tag 3]]}, {title:Tiddler2,text:This is the text of tiddler 2, with a link to [[Tiddler1]],tags:Tag1 Tag4} ] saved as, for example, tiddlers.json can then be imported using the native import in TW5, and then click on import, and all tiddlers get created. I'm now working on generating json files from spreadsheet. Here is a link for a script for google sheets: http://blog.pamelafox.org/2013/06/exporting-google-spreadsheet-as-json.html It looks reasonable, and I'll work on it today. As always, once discovered, it seems straightforward. Thanks, Jeremy, for the file structure that you put in a few years ago which got me headed in the right direction. //steve. [tw] Re: Tiddlywiki Branding/UI Studies
I will leave creating the theme to someone with a better eye for graphic design than I have, but I am working on that sort of popout menu. I have a simple macro version here http://ooktech.com/jed/ExampleWikis/Text%20Menus/upgrade.html, there will need to be some fancier css to set the height and widths correctly, but I don't think that will be too terribly difficult. In your mockups the search bar is always present but you have a dedicated search menu. Do you want this to open the search menu whenever you start typing or is it supposed to search through the tab you have open? [tw] Re: Links from and to within same tiddler
This seems like exactly what substories would do, but I have had absolutely no success figuring out how either the story list of history list actually works. I have been looking at this because the way that the list field of the story list is manipulated could be very useful in other contexts. In the creating substories tiddler http://tiddlywiki.com/#Creating%20SubStories on tiddlywiki.com it seems like you should be able to put in a button that sends the tm-navigate message to take you to a tiddler in that substory the same way you could for a tiddler in the main story river. This doesn't work, but I haven't been able to find anywhere to figure out how the story and history lists work (also the link catcher widget, I have no idea what that does). Is there anywhere I could look to see how the story and history lists work before I start poking the code? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: Creating a new tiddler with fields and adding a button to the view template
Unfortunately my answer to the first part of your question is 'I don't know', but I do have an alternate solution. I have never figured out how to use the new tiddler message like that, I have always used the action-setfield widget instead. Because my brain doesn't want to focus on actual work today, I wrote a bit about how to make the button here http://inmysocks.tiddlyspot.com/#How%20to%20make%20a%20button%20like%20the%20%27New%20Here%27%20button. It kinda rambles a bit, but it should cover what is needed. If anyone can tell us how to use the paramObject as an input to the tm-new-tiddler message that would be awesome. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Is there a way to import multiple tiddlers from a single file?
Hi Steve You'll probably have seen the current built-in support for CSV files in TW5: dragging or importing a file results in a single tiddler containing the entire CSV file. There's a special parser for text/csv tiddlers so that the content gets displayed as a nicely formatted HTML table. The approach I favour for making the CSV importing more flexible is actually to add facilities for accessing and manipulating the content of CSV tiddlers, rather than extending the import process itself. I like the idea of maintaining CSV as a native format, not just an import format - we could integrate a JavaScript spreadsheet engine like SocialCalc (see http://tiddlywiki.com/rboue's%20plugins%20for%20TiddlyWiki)/ Adding basic support for referencing rows and cells in CSV tiddlers would be fairly straightforward - it would largely mirror the existing implementation for access to property indexes within data tiddlers (aka JSON tiddlers). I'd be happy to guide anyone interested in working on a pull request. Best wishes Jeremy. [tw] [TW5] A start on a theme for mobile devices (and yet another task list idea)
I started out by trying to make a new task list a few hours ago and ended up with what I am hoping to use for the basis of a theme for mobile devices. One day I may actually plan what I am going to do instead of just poking things until something interesting falls out. I used the icon menus plugin I made to put everything from the normal sidebar into popups toggled by icons on the left side of the screen. There are icons along the right side that open up tiddlers for specific applications (at the moment a task list, a contacts database, bookmarks and a library tracker from my plugins). The icons can be moved around however you would like through the icon menu settings in the control panel. The task list I made lets you add categories and subcategories to tasks. I that is probably the only part that is all that interesting there. I still need to add a search function and sorting. At the last hangout someone (I think Eric. Thanks!) showed me how to make popups that don't go away if you click inside them, and how to set css dimensions based on viewing area size. Both of these are used a lot. Here is the current demo http://ooktech.com/jed/ExampleWikis/NewBrainTest/. The only thing I have been able to test it on other than my desktop is my tablet, so I have no idea how it looks or if it is usable on phones or smaller tablets. Does anyone have any suggestions/requests for what should be added? Re: [tw] Links from and to within same tiddler
I have to agree with Jeremy. Tiddlywiki is different than Wikipedia. Wikipedia uses links to jump to places in an article precisely because it isnt as easy in Wikipedia to create small chunks as it is in TiddlyWiki. So in TiddlyWiki, one should just create TOC tiddler with links to chunks, or a story tiddler composed of those chunks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Internal Javascript message upgrading to 5.1.8 from pre-release
Hi Jon The previous instructions did allow the upgrade and the wiki appears to be working as normal. Should I revert to a previous version and apply the new instructions to that? I would advise doing a search and replace for the corrected string on your current file (having backed it up). The reason is that the incorrectly encoded single quotes will display OK in body text, but not be interpreted correctly when used to quote attributes of widgets or HTML elements (for example). So you might still have some of the incorrectly encoded quotes without necessarily being aware. Best wishes Jeremy. Sorry to be a pain.
