With the old TWC, I had things set up so some tiddlers represented seed packets including information in data field sections about number of days to germinate and to yield. Other tiddlers represented planting activities. I could cross-link them like a relational database to get a report that would show me every thing planted and expected germination date. This helped me decide when I should do replantings. Once a plant had germinated, I could plug that information in and get an expected yield date. With my brown thumb (or chromium-laced soil), my yields tended to be off by a week to a year. A different report would just show the seed packets, which then helps when you're ordering seeds for the coming year. I think this cross-linked thing would be much harder with TW5, since there isn't the equivalent of the javascript plugin yet. Adding dates would require someone to roll a widget that could add days to a date. If it was possible, I could imagine one way to beautify the project would be to use thumbnail images from the seed packets in the generated report. Your idea sounds very similar to what I have been thinking about for some time - I've done quite a lot of research and have some ideas about how to make a start, which I'd love to share if you're interested. didaxy appears really well made (in terms of the vision that is communicated and the layout). The statements you make there are very reasonable and I share the same point of view that edit wars and the common fear of not being able to keep the material in its original form due to other participants changing it does not exist with the tiddlywiki way of cherry picking content by drag n drop and then republishing it again. I am a very keen proponent for widespread OER use and I think tiddlywiki is important because it provides a way to structure/compose OERs that already exist, as well as authoring new ones. [tw] Re: Tiddly-Khan?
Hi Richard, I think your vision of using TiddlyWiki as frontend that syncs sporadically to a server to update its content is a great idea. However, this requires much effort imo because syncing and distributing content is not a trivial task. Ed's work with the xapi is equally complex. It really needs some dedicated programmers that fully use their time to accomplish this task... My comment (https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tiddlywiki/XOQ5uUOPSh4/x6a0MEH-u-AJ) to Greg's post in contrast had a much simpler intention. I simply realized that tiddlywiki could be promoted as a replacement of e.g. PDF as format for digital content and that tiddlywiki could represent the new standard for a digital textbook: highly dynamic, multimedia friendly, cross-plattform, interactive. Of course if it could update its content once in a while it would be awesome, but as said, I think this is a complex task. -Felix -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: Static files configuration
I appreciate your reply but that isn't quite the question I was attempting to ask. Perhaps a little context: When a static rendertiddler command is run (with out --output) it will save the static files to output/static/balh/blah/blah.html The tiddler files however could have any title. So the real question is how does the rendertiddler command know what path and filename to output to? Is it the tiddler title? or the original tiddler path with .tid turned to .html? And Finally does TiddlyWiki have a way to customize that path? Can the file tiddlers/foo/bar.tid with a title: baz bar froboz be outputted to output/static/all/the/good/stuff/baz-bar-froboz.html ? The demo site http://ooktech.com/jed/ExampleWikis/DISQUS%20Demo/ is updated. This fix comes with its own new and unique problems! Only one comment thread can be displayed on a page. So if you have two tiddlers open and each one should have a comment thread only one will actually load. If you click on the button to make the comments load for the second tiddler the comments will load, but they will load in place of the comments in the first tiddler and not in the second tiddler. If you click on a button to load the comments and no comments have successfully loaded in your wiki yet than you will get a javascript error. Everything works, but you will get an error anyway (it is because you get the error since the script isn't loaded, but the button loads the script if it wasn't loaded so it works anyway). I don't think that it is possible to make this work better because it doesn't look like DISQUS can support having multiple comment threads displayed on a single page. All of the identifying information is in the script, not in the code used to place the comments. You may be able to use the part of what Felix showed during the last hangout that causes things to happen based on scrolling events to make comments for a tiddler automatically load when you scroll to that tiddler, but that would have other problems. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: [TW5] How to add comments to a wiki on tiddlyspot (without access to a server)
Jed, put the comment stream in a side bar tab. I did something similar with Mocha testing because the framework required only one element on the page and I could embed it into each tiddler. I instead embedded it into the sidebar as a tab. Then in the tab tiddler I used a widget that would copy (appendChild) the one element into it. I saved a reference in memory to the original element so it was easy to appendChild each time it rendered. Here is my implementation to that sort of thing: https://github.com/sukima/promise-tutorial and see it in action: http://sukima.github.io/promise-tutorial/#Welcome On Monday, June 22, 2015 at 12:39:13 AM UTC-4, Jed Carty wrote: Well, that sort of works. You can still only have a single comment thread, but you can use their reset function to change which comment thread is displayed. So you would have to have a button on each tiddler where you want comments and the user would have to click on the button to set disqus to display comments for that tiddler. If you open a tiddler and disqus loads without you pressing the button than the comments displayed will be whatever you set the default comment thread to be. So it works but it isn't perfect. I will put the new stuff up on the demo site http://ooktech.com/jed/ExampleWikis/DISQUS+Demo/ and update the instructions. If muut has something to force a reload like this than it would be ideal since you don't need to change the script to switch comment threads. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: [TW5] Including Parameters in a URL
Hi Jonnan and Eric I came up with an answer - then I saw Eric had replied already. My example gives you two different macros. First one is pretty simple as all it does is to create a pretty link which points to an url wich is constructed from an URL and a word (or several) Second macro takes the first macro and injects the prefix url for a google search and currentTiddler as the search item/subject. A solution for inputting current tiddler's title into an existing macro seems to be that you spell out the macrocall widget to be able to use currentTiddler - ... is a no go... Ps:Eric's or my macro will work in other tiddlers if you tag the tiddler (with the macro definition) with: $:/tags/Macro \define gs(url, item) [[$item$|$url$$item$]] \end \define gsl() $macrocall $name=gs url=https://www.google.com/search?q=; item=currentTiddler/ \end Search for gs https://www.google.com/search?q=; dolphin Search for this tiddlers title gsl Cheers Måns Mårtensson Den mandag den 22. juni 2015 kl. 19.13.05 UTC+2 skrev Jonnan: I'm probably missing something obvious here. [tw] Re: [TW5] How to add comments to a wiki on tiddlyspot (without access to a server)
I put what is needed to use the DISQUS comments in a plugin. Because the $:/tags/WikifiedMarkup tag hasn't been implemented yet you have to edit one of the shadow tiddlers to set the script up properly. For some reason it will give you a javascript error when you try to load a comment thread the first time, and you may have to click the button to load the thread twice. Once you have done it once there shouldn't be any problems until you reload the wiki at which point the same thing will happen. For the initial setup you need to go to the DISQUS tab in the control panel and enter the site url or nothing will work. I don't know why, and at the moment I am angry at this so I don't care. If it is ever going to be fixed than someone else is going to have to figure out how to do it. It is up on the [[demo site|http://ooktech.com/jed/ExampleWikis/DISQUS%20Demo/]]. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] Re: Tiddly-Khan?
I think your vision of using TiddlyWiki as frontend that syncs sporadically to a server to update its content is a great idea. However, this requires much effort imo because syncing and distributing content is not a trivial task. Ed's work with the xapi is equally complex. It really needs some dedicated programmers that fully use their time to accomplish this task... Agreed. In it's original form, my idea doesn't rely on this functionality but, having researched the topic somewhat, it seems like this ability to 'phone home' is going to be pretty important - not so much to update content, but more for reporting student progress to a server for a teacher to see and for 2-way interaction. Non-trivial, I agree - for many, many reasons (laws around storing any data which make students identifiable, for one thing) but potentially very useful. I'm not a programmer *yet*, but when I am I'll see what I can do :-) Regards, Richard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Hi Alex, @Felix: a friend is involved a startup concerning open learning here in Manchester: I can introduce you if you like. [tw] [TWC] Max-Widths in StyleSheet
Hi, all — I've been absent from the community for a while (he said sheepishly) but am now trying to give my TiddlyWikis some overdue tender, loving care. I've run into an odd behavior in TiddlyWiki Classic that has me stumped. I've created some styles for controlling the maximum width of elements (specifically, images — but also tables, so that large images in cells won't push them past tiddler borders): .tiddlerw img, .tiddlerw table { max-width:99%; } .400w, .400w img, .400w table { max-width:400px; } This works exactly as intended: {{tiddlerw{[img[path/to/giant-3800-pixel-wide-image.jpg]]}}} ... restricting the image display to 99% of the width of the available tiddler. This, however, does not: {{400w{[img[path/to/giant-3800-pixel-wide-image.jpg]]}}} I thought perhaps max-width values in pixels might not be supported by Firefox — but when I use inline HTML (e.g. HTMLimg src=path/to/giant-3800-pixel-wide-image.jpg style=max-width:400px;/HTML), it works like a charm. I also thought max-width values in pixels might not be support by TiddlyWiki — but when I changed max-width:400px; to max-width:50%; in the .400w styles to test the theory, that didn't work, either. So I thought the class name 400w might be the problem and tried a variety of different class names. No luck. I'm currently stumped as to why the .tiddlerw style works and .400w (or whatever I rename it to) doesn't. Surely I'm missing something blindingly obvious. I'm creating a loading a test case here so you can see it in action: http://tiddlywiki.secret-hq.com/testing/MaxWidthsTest.html -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] How To ? - Table Of Content - alternative sort in child tree by caption instead title
To get a better translation release, I would like to get an alternative sort on 'caption' field instead 'title', in a few child trees. [tw] Re: [TW5] How to add comments to a wiki on tiddlyspot (without access to a server)
Alex, Yes, I have a google form embedded on the wiki reference wiki for people to use to leave comments, it works but you couldn't have social media type comments using that. Devin, Yes, sorry I see now that you had suggested that. That would work well enough. Combined with what Felix made I may be able to make the comments switch to a tiddler when it scrolls into view if the button is a problem. Thank you for your help, I wouldn't have thought of either of your suggestions and they solve the biggest problems with disqus and tiddlywiki. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group.
