[tw] Re: [TW5] Simple tagging utility

2016-01-25 Thread Matabele
Hi Mat

I agree -- the existing Tag Manger looks nasty -- and is difficult to use
as the number of tags grows (try it on tw5.com)

Again, not too sure where to put a simple tag manager -- my initial
thoughts:
-- it should be tied to the current tiddler (ready access)
-- it should open from the view template (ready access)
-- it should list only tags used in the current tiddler (limiting the
number of tags to edit)

Perhaps, again, it should go inside the Info panel -- either as a separate
tab or as part of 'simple tagger'.

Thoughts?

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for this. Noticed that after upgrading, previous favourites are
lost.
Better if they could be kept if possible, or a maybe a warning in the docs.

Hi magev958,
That's entirely possible, especially with the new action-listops widget. You
could have a Favorites tiddler with a list field in which you storeall the
titles of the tids that you want to be favorites.
For that you could use a toolbar button like so:
title: $://ui/Buttons/favoritetags: $:/tags/ViewToolbar
\define add() $(currentTiddler)$\define remove() -$(currentTiddler)$
<$list filter="[list[Favorites]is[current]]"><$button
class=<>><$action-listops $tiddler="Favorites"
$field="list" $subfilter=<>/>★<$list
filter="[all[current]!list[Favorites]]"><$button
class=<>><$action-listops $tiddler="Favorites"
$field="list" $subfilter=<>/>★
And then the Favorites tiddler simply being:
title: Favorites

{}

Best wishes,
Tobias.

Still looking for a reply but thought I might post what I have worked
around thus far

>From the official docs: "You can also display an image stored in a tiddler

there is no direct way to control the size of the image."

Its ugly and way more than I want to type - but it does work. The speed of
documentation using the abbreviated markup language is one of the factors
drawing me towards continuing to use TW5. I am hoping that someone can
answer my above questions so I don't have to do this.

[tw] TW5 - Question on Lazy Loading

2016-01-25 Thread schlu . tech
Greetings,

First time poster. I have been using TW5 for a while now and in the last
few months I deployed using Node.js.

When I "Lazy Load" (--server 8080 $:/core/save/lazy-images) I experience
unexpected behavior.

"Picture.jpg" is a tiddler created using the import feature via drag and
drop of a JPEG image.

When I try and display this image in a tiddler via it works
as expected. The site is loaded lazily and when I access the Tiddler
containing that code I see the picture inline.

However, when I include Picture.jpg in a tiddler via [img[Picture.jpg]] the
picture does not show up. Likewise, <$image source="Picture.jpg"> behaves
the same way. I have to first open the Tiddler Entitled "Picture.jpg" (the
one created automatically from drag-drop-importing of the image file.) Once
I open this "origin" tiddler then the image pops up everywhere.

I have tried the latest versions of Firefox and Google Chrome. I am running
the latest version of TW5 (5.1.10.)

I am using TiddlyWiki for documentation and thus there is quite a bit of
pictures on each tiddler I create. I have chosen TW for its ease of use and
extensible nature. Can someone please explain what I am doing wrong or
perhaps a method/work-around to accomplish my goal. I have search the webs
all day to no avail.

Thank you.

[tw] Is there a Python interpreter plugin

2016-01-25 Thread Craig Barnes
Hi All,

I am working with primary school teachers to help them get to grips with
the new computing curriculum, and am considering tiddlywiki as a basis for
a classroom resource to support their curriculum objectives.

I plan to start with HTML CSS and Javascript type resources and exercises,
but am also interested in adding a plugin to embed a python interpreter
with a shell, syntax highlighting, editor and generated output.

There are a number of javascript implementations of Python, Skulpt looking
like a good choice at this point.

My question is, has anyone done anything like this yet?
If not, could someone point me to a good starting point to get me on the
right path?

Thank you

Backward-compatibility *IS* a real consideration.

Still — I can't help wondering if it's much more of a consideration than my
syntactical hangup about --- having two different meanings. *ARE* there
that many existing TiddlyWikis out there with three-hyphen s that
would suddenly become m-dashes? (I have no idea, but maybe folks will show
up testifying to how much of a pain it would be for their TWs.) The
worst-case scenario seems to be limited inconvenience, with the long-term
result that TiddlyWiki would have exclusive syntax for (**) and
for — (*---*).

The upgrader might even be able to handle a replacement as simple as *^-{3}*
$ *=>* ** as part of the upgrade process. (Of course, suggesting that
could be throwing wide the doors to all sorts of user-code cleanup Jeremy
wants no truck with.)

Food for thought, certainly. I definitely appreciated your insights in the
GitHub threads you linked to, Mario. (Thanks!)

I remember some of the early discussions about strikethrough, but I
wandered off for a long while and missed *--* and *---* being incorporated
(and parsed better in TW5 than they had been in TWC). I bring it up here,
in part, because I feel a little guilty for missing the chance to fight for
the oddball outlying use case of *---* on its own line back when the new
wikitext syntax was taking shape.

(Wasn't there a suggestion at one point to use some number of *=*
characters to build an ? Or am I misremembering that? It could be
that was suggested as a possible strikethrough syntax at some point.)

I realize I probably sound a tad crazy fretting over this one, and I very
much appreciate the feedback. I'd love to hear from others who've tripped
over the current syntax or whose TWs would take a hit from making such a
nitpicky change this late in the game.

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Favorites

2016-01-25 Thread Tobias Beer
Hi magev958,

That's entirely possible, especially with the new action-listops widget.
You could have a *Favorites* tiddler with a list field in which you store
all the titles of the tids that you want to be favorites.

For that you could use a toolbar b
utton
like so:

title: $://ui/Buttons/favorite
tags: $:/tags/ViewToolbar

\define add() $(currentTiddler)$
\define remove() -$(currentTiddler)$

<$list filter="[list[Favorites]is[current]]">
<$button class=<>>
<$action-listops $tiddler="Favorites" $field="list" $subfilter=<>/>
★

<$list filter="[all[current]!list[Favorites]]">
<$button class=<>>
<$action-listops $tiddler="Favorites" $field="list" $subfilter=<>/>
★

And then the Favorites tiddler simply being:

title: Favorites

{}

Best wishes,

Tobias.

A list of favourites can be kept in a single field (as a list of titles):

Add Me to Favourites

Hi Nicholas

If you're using v.5.1.10, the $action-listops widget will do the business:

Renew Quarterly List

-- a tag containing spaces would require enclosing tag with spaces
brackets
-- the '-' sign means 'remove' for the filter run

[tw] Re: [TW5] Favorites

2016-01-25 Thread Jed Carty
Field titles are limited to lower case letters, numbers, . - and _, so you
have to somehow have an automated way to generate the field names and put
the tiddler titles as the contents.
You can use data tiddlers like this and just put each index as a tiddler
title. That wouldn't be too difficult to do.

[tw] [TW5] Setting the tiddler attribute in fieldmangler to multiple tiddlers

2016-01-25 Thread Nicholas Zufelt
I'm trying to make a button which removes the "done" tag from every tiddler
that has the tag "quarterly".

<$fieldmangler tiddler="[tag[quarterly]]"><$button message="tm-remove-tag"
param="done">Renew Quarterly List

Clearly the issue is with the `tiddler = "[tag[quarterly]]"` bit because if
I replace that with the title of one of the tiddlers with the quarterly
tag, it works for just that one. Is there some fix for this?

[tw] Re: [TW5] Is it possible to make $edit-text tag="input" work as $button oninput?

2016-01-25 Thread Jed Carty
I don't think that there is any built-in way to do what you are talking
about. I made a plugin that will trigger action widgets when a change is
detected in a list of tiddlers. It should do what you want but I don't
think it has gotten much use so make sure to text it a lot before you put
it on a live site. http://ooktech.com/jed/ExampleWikis/TriggerActions/

If you need any help with that let me know, I never got around to writing
good documentation.

Mostly unrelated:

I had forgotten all about those filters. Seeing people use things I have
made always makes me happier than it probably should. I get very little
feedback about people actually using any of it.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Commenting Plugin (Google+/DISQUS)

2016-01-25 Thread Jed Carty
I am working on some native tiddlywiki commenting systems using the
federation ideas at the moment. Because of how tiddlywiki works it is going
to be a very different commenting system than the server driven systems
that currently exist but it should work.

One seemingly counter-intuitive difference is that if you wanted to comment
on my site you would leave the comment on your site and then when I check
for comments I would pull them from your site onto mine. This seems weird
but it is the logical way to make a distributed commenting system like we
need for tiddlywiki.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Commenting Plugin (Google+/DISQUS)

2016-01-25 Thread Chester Cho
I've looked the issue, but seems self-hosting some commenting system such
as Discourse is the only viable solution atm, however this seems to be
little counter-intuitive as TW5 is supposed light-weight. Perhaps I should
keep my TW5 with those simple Google+ commenting system, since it doesn't
actually require heavy discussion.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Removing Tags Inherited from Skeleton When Creating New Tiddler from Button

2016-01-25 Thread Matabele
Hi

My widget includes only the 'action-maketid.js' widget -- the widget may be
used standalone to create a single new tiddler -- at a minimum, all that's
required is:

<$button><$action-maketid $title="Tiddler">Make

-- this will create a new tiddler with the title 'Tiddler' (or with
appended integer to create a unique title) -- try clicking the button
repeatedly.

I often use this within a $list widget to create a number of tiddlers with
different titles:

<$button>

<$list filter="Title1 Title2 Title With Spaces">
<$action-maketid $template="mytemplate" ... other options />
<$another-action-widget . />

Make

Tobias's widget provides the candy (you will need to get this plugin
separately from Tobias's wiki, or copy it across from my demo wiki) -- many
options to create titles of all sorts :-)

I also use a stripped down version of the make[] operator, as I rarely use
many of its options.

Changing the name of the $template= attribute to $skeleton= should be no
problem -- just change the attribute name in the GetAttribute and
ComputeAttributes sections (don't change the variable names -- this
is unnecessary.)

I haven't quite finished contemplating what options to provide with the
widget -- for example, the last version incorporated a $date= attribute for
creating journals. I think the make[] operator provides a neater and more
flexible solution -- and consequently removed this option.

regards

[tw] Re: [TW5] Removing Tags Inherited from Skeleton When Creating New Tiddler from Button

2016-01-25 Thread Scott Simmons (Secret-HQ)
You are a mad genius, William. If you and Tobias didn't have day jobs, one
of you would surely rule the world by now.

Thanks for making me think about this a little more. Looking with fresh
eyes, I can see other alternative approaches available, depending on how
far I want to stray from the out-of-the-box basics. For example, I could:

 1. Use text in <$action-sendmessage> to pull in *just *the text of my
skeleton tiddler and set any fields with %fieldname%="value"; or
 2. *(haven't actually tried this one)* create and save a temp tiddler,
use *it *as a skeleton to create the final tiddler (removing any
undesirable tags), and then delete the temp tiddler.

I'm not sure if the second strategy would work within a button or not. But
you should be able to write a macro to do each of those three things in
turn and then invoke that macro with a button. Might be fun to try, but
you'd essentially be duplicating the functions of your <$action-maketid>
widget with a far clunkier strategy (which would involve lots of reasonably
complicated custom macros instead of installing one new widget).

A couple of questions:

Does <$action-maketid> incorporate Tobias's [make[]] filter, or do I need
to make sure I have that plugin installed for <$action-maketid> to work?

Playing around with <$action-maketids>, I think I may bundle it up as a
plugin for my personal use (and for ease of transport between TWs). I
think I'll change $template to $skeleton to keep consistent with my
understanding of TW's current nomenclature (where templates and skeletons
are different concepts). Any advice or warnings on that front?
