[tw] TWederation Setup Testing

2016-12-30 Thread Dmitry Sokolov
Hello All,

I had difficulties in setting up TWederation on TidlySpot previously and
decided to make it a systematic run. The results are here, in red:
http://confocal-manawatu.pbworks.com/w/page/114094198/TiddlySpot%20Setup

I will keep digging into the alternative solutions but would appreciate
fixing the issues with the template on ooktech.com. I believe, that will
lower the barrier for participation of newcomers like me.

My final goal is to write a workable protocol easy to follow, at the same
page above.
Your help would be indispensable and greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if I can be of any help too.

Jed Carty , Jeremy Ruston
,
others?

Cheers,
Dmitry

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Improving tiddler renaming behaviour

2016-12-30 Thread Josiah
UUIDs are sometimes useful. I think its depends a lot on what you are
doing. Once I realised that TW doesn't serialize Tiddlers with unique UUIDs
I started messing around with manipulating creation times to give surrogate
UUIDs. It kinda works.

For me the lack of auto-serialisation turns up negatively the fact you
can't create two tiddlers with the same title. That is irritating :-). A
tiddler title, IMO, should not HAVE to be unique.

Best wishes
Josiah

[tw] Re: [TW5] Is there a single, concise upgrade HowTo anywhere?

2016-12-30 Thread PMario
Hi Loyd,

I did create a comparison TW in 2014 for myself. It contains information
that I did consider valuable. So I'm pretty sure it is incomplete.
http://compare-tw2-tw5.tiddlyspace.com/#CompareTwc-Tw5

Updating TWc to TW5 also depends on the number of plugins, that extend /
change the TW syntax.

For me it was relatively simple to convert my stuff, since I was using a
plugin called "lineBreakHack", that produced the same "paragraph" handling
as TW5 does today. ...

Since tiddlyspace.com may be closed down anytime soon, you can find the
stuff at the online-archive.
http://web.archive.org/web/20161205103254/http://compare-tw2-tw5.tiddlyspace.com/

I personally use a "find and replace" workflow for content that needs
conversion. For existing "read only" stuff I still use TWc.

have fun!

You are passing in "go" as a macro param. As you clearly already know,
this allows you to use $go$ to perform a *lexical substitution* so that the
value of the "go" param in is inserted into the surrounding syntax. The
macro then "returns" the content, including the substitutions, for further
processing by the TiddlyWiki parser.

To retrieve the value of the tooltip from a tiddler field (instead of the
literal "hello" placeholder in your example), the syntax is:
   tooltip={{tiddlername!!fieldname}}
and, given that you have $go$ defined, you can write:
   tooltip={{$go$!!tooltip}}
where 'tooltip' is the desired field name.

Note: there's a small error in your macro code. In the $link widget, you
wrote:
   to=$go$

However, if $go$ is a tiddler title that contains spaces, this will break,
as any text following the space will be treated as another widget parameter
rather than being a part of the value assigned to the "to" parameter. To
make sure spaces in titles are properly contained, you should enclose the
parameter value in quotes:
   to="$go$"

In addition, if the value of $go$ includes one or more double-quote
characters, you would need to use the tripled-quotes, like this:
   to="""$go$"""
which ensures that any quote character(s) within the title will not be seen
as a delimiter for the value, but will be treated as regular text content
instead.

Putting it all together:
\define see(show,go)
<$link to="""$go$""" tooltip={{$go$!!tooltip}}">$show$
\end

enjoy,

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Prerelease of v5.1.14

2016-12-30 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
It doesn't seem to change the font weight of the smaller text. I'm just
trying to understand what the point is of a theme that makes the
easy-to-read stuff even bigger/heavier and easier-to-read, but ignores the
small stuff. All I can say is, wait until you need reading
glasses/bifocals. ;-)

Changing the font-size from the menu, or any of the other settings for that
matter, is awkward because the fonts change WHILE you are typing, meaning
you can easily lose your place. I've got a configuration tiddler that I
want to post that will let you dial-in fonts and and width settings and
then save the configuration.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Is there a single, concise upgrade HowTo anywhere?

2016-12-30 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki

My "strategy" was to simply import everything and then fix what I needed as
I needed it or encountered it, or in those "lull" times when the brain
isn't fully occupied. I figured as time went on I'd become more comfortable
with the new syntax and widget structure and know how to do this-for-that
conversions more readily. The problem is, especially with so much dependent
on plugins, that it's more like translating from Esperanto to Klingon. It
kind of has to be done on a case-by-case basis.

Good luck!
Mark

It seems like too much work to do that. How difficult would it be to add a

There was "slice" in the classic TW. In TW5 you're supposed to make each
tiddler be the slice. There's a discussion about slices and there

Re: [tw] TiddlyMap edge node styling by namespace

2016-12-30 Thread Greg Hodgins
You guessed correctly on "edges". I thought I recalled edges being
referred to as edge nodes, but will drop that. :-)

I'll manage with some more manual effort. I should learn how to script a
little as I imagine it shouldn't be too difficult to find all the edges
with a namespace and update their colour attribute. Worst case I imagine I
could perform some kind of search and replace on the underlying tiddlers.
As I write this I am left thinking I need to check and see if edges are
represented by tiddlers.

I'll experiment further - no problem. I just didn't want to continue
spinning if it were something obviously I was missing. I must have been
thinking of node types.

Thanks as always.

[tw] [TW5] Is there a single, concise upgrade HowTo anywhere?

2016-12-30 Thread Loyd Gravitt
I have been using TWC since 2011, over the years making it my single main
documentation repository for all of my IT notes and documentation. As TWC
had had more and more browser specific issues with javascript problems,
save difficulties and everything else, I decided maybe it is time to look
at upgrading to TW5. I have done a couple of hours of reading and found
the upgrade assistant. I tried that and of course it now wants me to
upgrade each tiddler as I open it to convert the classic tiddly markup to
the new. The problem is, It totally scrambles the formatting of every
tiddler.  As an IT person, I have made extensive use of the {{{ ... }}}
markup for blocks of code. These are all pretty much illegible after the
"upgrade". So now it appears that I have the choice on whether or not I
want to manually reformat between 600 and 700 tiddlers, stick with the
growing pains of TWC, or just punt and use another tool.

Is there a simple, single document or sticky thread that contains
instructions for moving from the classic platform to the 5 version? And
before someone says to search and read all of the messages already here, I
do not have time. My boss is paying me to administer databases and
servers, not dig into the intricacies of jason, css, and node,js. I am
already regretting the time I invested in learning classic tiddly markup
and plugin architecture as that is now worthless.

I have done some searching of the Google Group and seen some threads about
further development of upgrade tools similar to what I am looking for. Can
anyone give a status or timeframe on these?

I apologize for the tone of frustration in this post, but time is limited
and I am not wanting to do much tweaking or development within the
platform. I am just a user, by no means technically illiterate, who just
wants to take almost six years of accumulated tiddlers and seamlessly
upgrade them to the new format.

Thank you in advance for any help anyone can hopefully give me and Happy
New Year.

Re: [tw] TiddlyMap edge node styling by namespace

2016-12-30 Thread Felix Küppers
Hi Greg,

Can I apply a style to TiddlyMap edge nodes based on namespace?

can you clarify what you mean by "edge nodes"?
Do you mean edges or nodes?

I assume you are talking about "edges". In this case you cannot mix edge styles
based on a shared criteria (e.g. a common namespace) as it would be possible
with node styles. Edges can only be styled via their assigned edge type.

Maybe at one point I will introduce a more advanced mechanism for styling
edgetypes but this would require a massive code change and is not likely to
come in the future. I still hope you can somehow manage to organize your maps!

P.S. Is this group the correct group for TM questions

In case of questions that are more TiddlyMap specific, such as yours, which do
not directly involve or target "core" TiddlyWiki concepts, I think it is better
to post them at TiddlyMap's GitHub repository. Nonetheless, since TiddlyMap is
build on top of TiddlyWiki and some people in the community are using the
plugin, you may be able to get some answers to your questions in this forum as
well.

Re: [tw] [TW5] how to show tiddler in tm-modal with template?

2016-12-30 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Sini-Kit

One problem is with this part:

yourMessage={{||3dsliderModal}}

Transcluded attributed are never wikified; the text is passed through directly,
and so the double bar syntax is not used with transcluded attributes.

If I understand your goal correctly, you’ll need to pass the current tiddler
explicitly to the modal:

<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-modal" $param="SampleModal"
currentTiddler=<>/>

Then your modal can pick up the caption field and other values that you are
displaying.

Best wishes

Jeremy

and so don’t need to resolve the value of the current tiddler.

The “Heavier” theme doesn’t actually change the size of any of the text, it
just changes the font weight. That’s intentional, but perhaps what you really
want is a “Bigger” theme that bumps up the font sizes of everything. The reason
that I didn’t bother to create such a theme is that I assumed that people would
use the browser font size controls. Do they not do the job for you?

The problem there is that the new editor uses an iframe for the text.
Meanwhile, the main page is listening for mouse clicks to trigger the removal
of the popup. However, the main page doesn’t get mouse click events for clicks
within the iframe. So, I think the only fix would be to create a whole new
mechanism for a click within the iframe to send a message to the main page to
cancel any outstanding popups.

> tab).

There are, sadly, a bunch of shadow tiddlers in the core that are not safe to
view directly; they are templates designed to be used in specific
circumstances, and they run into problems when viewed in the context of the
story river.

I think the best solution would have been to have arranged things so that
system tiddlers are always shown as raw text, rather than rendered text. It’s
too late to change things now for all shadow tiddlers, but I have experimented
with a patch that displays raw text for all system tiddlers that have more than
one forward slash in their titles, allowing $:/ControlPanel etc to be displayed
as usual.

I think at the moment our only other recourse is to fix each individual
template. The example you’ve mentioned has the following content:

\define image()
>/>
\end

<$wikify name="content" text={{!!text}} type="text" mode="block"
output="formattedtext">
<>

The problem occurs because when you view this tiddler in the story river, the
current tiddler will be the tiddler itself (rather than a target tiddler for
which we are generating a QR code), thus triggering the recursion.

In this case, we could fix things with a protective reveal widget that detects
that the tiddler is being viewed in the story river, and suppresses the main
content. The trouble is that all of that extra mechanism will impact
performance, adding an overhead to every template in the system.

Best wishes

Jeremy

but when I use {{||3dsliderModal}} it shows nothing

[tw] TiddlyMap edge node styling by namespace

2016-12-30 Thread Greg Hodgins
I could have sworn I'd already done this, but perhaps not. I can't crack
it this AM after 30 minutes of searching.

Can I apply a style to TiddlyMap edge nodes based on namespace?

eg: I have several nodes such as clear: one, clear: two, clear: three,
token: one, token: two, token:three

I want the clear edge nodes to be red while the token edge nodes are green
- without visiting each of them individually.

Thanks.

P.S. Is this group the correct group for TM questions

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] Improving tiddler renaming behaviour

2016-12-30 Thread Jeremy Ruston
I also don’t think that UUIDs are a magical solution.

For example, unless we want users to write [[my
link|eaec2913b78d11a81a68775068fb3107e9029b746e7cbc6d1a1926190c9f6f05]], then
we’ll want [[my link|my title]] to perform a title search to find the target
tiddler.

The moment we support such a syntax then we’re back precisely where we started,
where there will be a strong need for tools which relink titles.

Having said that, as I’ve noted before, there’s little preventing somebody from
experimenting with a UUID-oriented variant of the default TiddlyWiki user
interface. One option is to use the title field to contain a UUID but a more
interesting approach is to use a separate UUID field, and take advantage of one
of the properties of most UUID generation algorithms: the guarantee that each
generated UUID will be unique.

Best wishes

[tw] Re: [TW5] Improving tiddler renaming behaviour

2016-12-30 Thread Jed Carty
While using UUIDs may simplify some things it would make others more
complex. How do you overwrite a shadow tiddler if they all use UUIDs? If
you are able to edit UUIDs to make a new tiddler with the same one then
they aren't unique anymore, if you do something like take the tiddler with
the same title and the newest modified field than you are back to having
titles being the same as UUIDs.

I think that while on the surface changing to UUIDs could take care of some
things, it isn't actually solving the problems, just moving them.

To be honest,
If we were using UUIDs instead of user's titles anything of this would matter

[tw] Re: NoteSelf mobile app ( well, kind of)

2016-12-30 Thread Danielo Rodríguez
Hello Mat,.. Was that your first time opening Noteself from chrome? Or maybe
you have opened it before? Sometimes the automatic update process can get
messy, I think I will disable it for the next release

Regarding the offline thing, hope the following video helps you understand the
concept (please ignore the audio)
