[tw] TW5 no backups?

2017-04-19 Thread vayira
Hi! I've used TW for many years it feels like part of my hand but my
version is an older simpler one (ver 2?) I've been looking at ver5 but it
doesn't seem to have an auto backup on save option. Is that correct?

2017-04-19 Thread Richard Evans
Hi,

I have an idea for a TiddlyWiki to aid in guiding, documenting and planning

need for help. Is there anybody who would be interested in co-operating on
developing this idea.

You are right. They do th same thing. I used different icons since they
don't look right. The tiddler toolbar icon doesn't look good in the tree an
vice versa. So may be a new icon, which looks good with both sizes may be
better. We'll see.

We could try to create a PR with NewHere buttons in the TOC macro. Should

Drag and Drop was requested too already in a different thread. ...

So no promises! But it would be interesting, if more users want those

2017-04-19 Thread Schalk Burger
Thank very much for your reply, PMario.

Your posting was very helpful, I really appreciate that you explained how
to solve the problem. I was able to adjust the CSS to accommodate for both
eventualities,
this helps me to lower the learning curve for users of my wikis that have
no CSS knowledge at all.

By the way, I'm of German descent, since my great great grandfather

Yeah, anuther thingy from the TWaddle Nuclear Research Labs

GoToTab

[tw] Re: Should I request that X be built into TW or as plugin?

2017-04-19 Thread Tristan Kohl
Thank you Mat for clearing things up. I think the current "plugin
first" philosophy is quite good of a way to go as it makes adding new stuff
easy and new plugins serve a proof of concept.

If plugin X becomes so widely used that almost any TW relies on it this
could be a signal to add the functionality to the core. I like to think of
this similar to python where new core modules were added if they proofed
themself worthy.

Cheers,
Tristan

Re: [tw] [TWClassic] Can't save file anymore in Firefox

2017-04-19 Thread Schorschi
Oh, there is a TiddlyFox icon. I was able to click on the "Enable Save"
button and could save the TiddlyWiki file now. Thanks.

Sorry, was oblivious to that.

In that other thread, I vaguely recall reading something about the save
property not sticking between Firefox restarts, though. Unclear when that
applies.

So, what do you suggest I should do now with the auto-update switch of the
TiddlyFox add-on if preserving functionality of my TWClassic pages until
all eternity is my ultimate goal? Should I leave it on Auto, or force it to
Off?

What would have happened had I had the Auto-update switch already on Off
prior to the update a few days ago? Would I have still had a problem
saving, or would I have been able to continue my TWClassic hermit life
undisturbed?

Re: [tw] INTRO: tocP - Parent field based Table Of Content

2017-04-19 Thread Pit.W.

Hello PMario,

great plugin. This opens the possibility of a 2-dimensional knowledge
management, tags vs. fields.

I am now fiddling with connecting it to TiddlyMap, tidgraph and timeline
... no idea how that will work out, but I will see... Maybe planning vs.
actual in a project management environment? Or a connction to tocP,
creating a 3D-matrix ? Just thinking...

What I have already found out:

If the tocP is integrated into a conditional template (like a
footer) it works with an adaption like so:

   <>

where *'$(currentTiddler)$*' is a variable replacing the title
of the tiddler which calls the conditional template. Same as in
   the standard ToC

At the moment I am still struggling to understand the difference between
the two "NewHere"buttons, they seem to be identical except for the icon
- or maybe am just not seeing the point... But then, you made it
absolutely clear that this is a beta version.

I like the new-button in the tree - great. It encourages brainstorming.
That would be great in the standard-ToC as well. Or even: both side by
side for 2-dimensional brainstorming ... okokok, I got a little finger
and now I am grabbing for the whole hand ... shame on me.

Thank you for the plugin.

Kind regards,

Pit.W

You can install the plugin by dragging the plugin link to your TW. The

It contains the full functionality. So you have the same possibilities
that come with the core toc macros.

The tabbed versions don't have the "New Child" buttons

Feedback is very welcome.

Re: [tw] Re: Numeric position info in $list widget and other filters (working implementation)

2017-04-19 Thread Evan Balster
Quick reminder because I managed to forget about this myself at one point:
I *did* provide a working (if hacky) solution in the OP. The
addposition operator
is a fairly low-impact way to achieve this effect, and it doesn't take
O(N^2) time to execute.

To review, a filter step *addposition[P/N:T]* will turn "MyItem" into
"13/26:MyItem" if it is the thirteenth of twenty-six items.

2017-04-19 Thread Steven Schneider
Jed, I had a look at WizardWizard, which is pretty cool, I must say. Thanks
for doing that.

And thanks especially for pointing me towards your macro. You inspired me
to explore the "allbefore" operator, which allows me to generate a Tiddler
X of Y, where Y is the number of tiddlers counted by a filter and X is the
nth tiddler in the list.

Here is code, which if placed in tiddlers tagged "HelloThere" in
tiddlywiki.com will create the desired output:

Tiddler <$count filter="[tag[HelloThere]allbefore:include]"
/> of <$count filter="[tag[HelloThere]]"/> tagged with <>

[tw] Should I request that X be built into TW or as plugin?

2017-04-19 Thread Mat
Over on github a fellow member asked if there are any guidelines for what
is suitable in core/standard distro VS better as a plugin.

I felt a reply is better posted here so wrote this but was interrupted
before posting. Meanwhile I now see fellom PMario has posted a read-worthy
answer

too (see end of thread there).:

...

I'm not sure there are any official guidelines but I'd say the reasoning is
along these lines;

The standard distro ( =the basic TW distribution), and especially the core
plugin, should generally be kept minimal... or rather, it should not be *too
slow to load/render.*.. which is the typical cost when adding stuff.
Another cost is administration/maintenance... which means Jeremy because of
the TW projects organizational structure.

On the flip side, there is need for key-turn functionality to attract
users. So standard distro functionality should meet *most users basic needs*
.

The opinion that some suggestion is better as a plugin than in core does
not mean it is a bad idea (at least I don't think anyone would mean that).
Rather, the suggestion is probably *too special* to be of general interest,
at least given the costs it would bring. But then, in then end it's up to
Jeremy if something is appropriate for core or not.

That said, we still don't have a good solution to access the existing
community made plugins (imagine an "app store"!) so even if it is justified
to 'triage' a feature as a plugin there are problematic consequences.
TWederation will hopefully one day solve this...

Yes, the primitive widgets will allow for a draggable TOC, I just haven’t got
around to implementing it (and don’t expect to have the time before we release
5.1.14). It’s a good project for somebody else to pick up if you want to learn
the new drag and drop primitives.

Annoyingly, the erroneous address is https, which has never been implemented
for tiddlywiki.com. I don’t have a certificate or appropriate hosting to set it
up.

There are two problems identified in the thread:

1) TiddlyFox v2.0.1 doesn’t work in private browsing mode, or with “never
remember history” enabled
2) The usability issue that many people weren’t expecting and didn’t see the
new toolbar icon

I’ve posted a prerelease that fixes the first problem and addresses the second
by adopting a new toolbar icon design.

The prerelease doesn’t work on regular versions of Firefox, so you may have to
wait for its official release (which is largely due to Mozilla’s reviewing
timescales).

You can install signed earlier versions of TiddlyFox from here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tiddlyfox/versions/

It’s not clear whether your issue is one of the two identified above, or a new
issue we haven’t seen before. Can you confirm whether you can see the TiddlyFox
toolbar icon?

Best wishes

Jeremy.

[tw] [TWClassic] Can't save file anymore in Firefox

2017-04-19 Thread Schorschi
I'm using TWClassic and am unable to save my files in Firefox anymore. I
believe it has to do with the recent update of TiddlyFox.

I saw the other thread "TiddlyFox seemed to stop working", but I'm not sure
a solution is provided in there for my situation.

I tried reinstalling a previous xpi-file of the TiddlyFox add-on
(tiddlyfox_extension_for_firefox-1.0alpha18-fx.xpi), but Firefox refused to
install it, because it isn't signed. I have not been able to figure out how
to work around that.

I don't have control over application versions at work, so I cannot
downgrade or install "an unbranded" version of Firefox that supposedly
helps.

It appears I should have prevented the automatic update of the TiddlyFox
add-on? Would that have prevented my issue? But then, why was I able to
install the old add-on in the first place if it isn't signed?

Is there a solution for my problem?

[tw] Getting the value of another Tiddler's field

2017-04-19 Thread Richard Evans
Hi,

This sounds straight forward, but I cannot get it to work and I cannot find
any documentation for it.

I have a number of tiddlers with a user field 'status', this field can take
a number of values: valueone, valuetwo, valuethree, etc.

I want to have a dashboard tiddler that shows the status of each of the
monitored tiddlers in a table, thus:

|!State|!Research Area |
|getValue([[Birth Index]],"status")|[[Birth Index]]|
|getValue([[Birth Cert, "status")|[[Birth Cert]]|

I want the final result to be

| State | Research Area |
-
| valueOne| Birth Index|
| valueThree | Birth Cert |

I want to be able to look at te status table, decided what to work on and
that just click on the tiddler link in the last column to get to the
appropriate tiddler.

 Ciao Ric Evans

[tw] Re: [TW5] list-tagged-draggable Macro. Is it possible to make this on TOC macro.

2017-04-19 Thread Jed Carty
I made a tool to rearrange the table of contents without the drag and drop
as one of my earlier experiments with tiddlywiki, using the same idea it
should be possible to use drag and drop to reorder everything.

Because it uses tags and not a list it would take some things on top of
just the drag and drop tool.

Re: [tw] Re: TiddlyFox seemed to stop working

2017-04-19 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Mark

> When you go to your extensions, click on "More" under TiddlyFox, you get the
> extensions page including the URL I mentioned. Image attached.

Ah, OK, thank you. I think that URL is actually baked into that old version of
the extension; it isn’t metadata that I can change on addons.mozila.org
. So I think the only way I could change it is to
re-issue the old version of the extension; it’s not clear how I could do that
without disturbing the current release.

Best wishes

Jeremy

2017-04-19 Thread 'mervin mecklenburg' via TiddlyWiki
This worked when I tried it on the computer that was having problems. The
ball appeared, and I believe that it is working; although I have yet to
test it out. I appreciate all of the time everyone spent solving this.

[tw] Re: TiddlyFox seemed to stop working

2017-04-19 Thread 'mervin mecklenburg' via TiddlyWiki
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, on the computer that is giving
me problems, I also seem to have issues with Tiddydesktop. However, I have
Tiddlydesktop running on my other computer, which I use as a backup, and it
is working fine there. However, I found a work-around for my laptop. I
downloaded TiddlyChrome, which appears to run on my laptop and seems to be
working. Thanks for the suggestion.
