[tw] Re: TW5 version of TWc DailyTasks plugin?

2017-06-16 Thread cmari
Wow, that is terrific, thank you so much! I will use this daily.
I especially appreciate the really clear comments. That made it easy for me
to add a field that takes advantage of the tooltip and captures the running
list of dates.

2017-06-16 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
Did your original files have any plugins or other core-level changes? That
might explain your problems. Also, you don't mention your browser or
operating system. It's been a long time since I've encountered a full-blown
bug in TW5, but I used to get the red screen all of the time in Pale Moon.

Remember the prime directive of TW5, aka The First Rule of Using TiddlyWiki

Good luck,

[tw] Re: TiddlyWiki is very irritating.

2017-06-16 Thread Birthe C
Hi Richard Evans,

Tiddlywiki has a rather steep learning curve. It does of course depend on
what we are trying to achieve. I myself is learning by following this
group, look at the linked tiddlywikies and testing a lot. My private
Tiddlywikies are mostly using what others created only changed a little to
fit my purposes.

I have been trying to use TiddlyWiki for a long time, but the sheer number

I think that waiting for TW to improve is not a good idea. Of course TW
gets better and better giving more options - and more to learn to use ;-)

I am sure a lot of people will vermently disagree with my previous

I think this group has tiddlywiki users of all levels. I think we are all
learning constantly. Get new ideas and so on.
I would also think that most users have felt frustrated at times, I know I
have. A little thing is bothering you, you try and try but nothing seems to
do the trick. If you followed this group you would often see users asking a
question and short after giving the answer themselves.
We do not get messages telling us things are wrong (except of course java
script warning). Your TW just does not work as you would want it to.

My current missive concerns a bug in 5.14. I have a number of files that

Did you check for overwritten shadows tiddlers?
Also did you consider sharing a link to a public version of your
tiddlywiki. Lots of eyes would look at it then, and more eyes catches more
errors

No one likes bugs. If you found a bug it would be important to share with
this group in the hope of finding it and hopefully a solution from one of
the developing members.

It is clear that you have had a bad experience. Would you consider sharing
a link to your tiddlywiki giving others the chance to find the reason.

I hope you find what you are looking for tiddlywiki or otherwise. But I
also recall myself being rather dragged into using Tiddlywiki Classic many
years ago. To be honest I was curious but it was a relationship of first
dragging my feet, then love/hate - until about 6 months later = total
addiction to this day ;-)

Only you are able to decide what will be the best choice for you,
Birthe

[tw] TiddlyWiki is very irritating.

2017-06-16 Thread Richard Evans
Hi,

I have been trying to use TiddlyWiki for a long time, but the sheer number
of bugs I have encountered has put me off. I keep coming back to see if it
is any better. To date, I cannot report an improvement.

I am sure a lot of people will vermently disagree with my previous
statement. I stand by it. You are all experienced users of TiddlyWiki, I am
a learner. Thus I may not do things in the correct order to prevent the
bugs. I have never encountered a message to say that I am doing things
wrong, so I have to believe that I have encountered bugs.

My current missive concerns a bug in 5.14. I have a number of files that
use TiddlyWiki 5. I was updating one, when I decided to upgrade it to the
latest version. Accordingly I used the upgrader to upgrade the file. I did
this a number of times as there were problems with the final result. The
upgrade failed in one of two ways, either the document presented correctly,
but none of the menus, buttons etc worked. Or the upgraded document had two
menus, ( the section on the right which controls TiddlyWiki) overlaying
each other.

I gave up at that point and decided to recreate my document (luckily it was
short), from scratch in an empty TW5. I did this and again there was a bug,
a different one this time! Presumably, to make life interesting. On this
occasion, I had two documents one after another in the file. The edited
file and original empty file.

TiddlyWiki is a very good idea, but unless these bugs can be squashed in a
timely manner I shall have to, reluctantly, give up using it. I am wasting
too much time trying to get and keep a clean un-corrupted document.

[tw] Attempt to build a Roguelike Dungeongame in TW5

2017-06-16 Thread Jan

Hello

Inspired by Jed Carthy'shttp://zorklike.tiddlyspot.com/#; I also wanted
to explore the possibilties of using TW as a plattform for editing games.

I wanted to change the interface to a darker version, where the dungeon
is all black at start an will only be shown after exploring it.

And I wanted to change mechanism to make it easier for average-users to
create an own Level, so here the rooms are generated by a matrix of
squares representing row, column and level (A-1-1 A-2-1 A-3-1... B-1-1
B-2-1 and so forth) and I implemented an editor which can be accessed by
a map.

The mechanism is explained in the Wiki; the display of rooms already
functions, but i have some trouble inserting the correct values for
moving the player.

So I would be pleased to have your opinions and perhaps some help on the
move south-button which is there as a test. http://roguelike.tiddlyspot.com/

Thanks
Jan

That was an interesting challenge. The result of my effort is located at
http://dailytasksk.tiddlyspot.com/

The results are less than perfect but similar enough to the original that I
don't think you'll have any problem using it. With any luck, it will be
close enough to what you want to carry you the rest of the way.

NoteSelf is pretty amazing for what it can do. The inbuilt revision handing

FYI, there is a small CSS layout issue in the "comparator" with narrower
screens ...

[tw] Re: Any CSS HORIZONTAL layouts yet for TW?

2017-06-16 Thread codacodercodacoder
Yes, I've sort-of done it.

In my case, certain tiddlers format the tiddler body ( ) as a set of css
columns with fixed height(s). Those tiddlers then scroll horizontally.

So, not a "storyriver", but certainly a horizontal presentation of the
content with no vertical scroll at all.

.tc-tagged-bk-layout .tc-tiddler-body {
  max-height:770px;
  overflow-x:auto;
  width: 100%;
  position: relative;

  columns:3; -moz-columns:3; -webkit-columns:3;
  column-gap:3em; -moz-column-gap:3em; -webkit-column-gap:3em;
  column-rule: 3px dotted #ddd; -moz-column-rule: 3px dotted #ddd;
-webkit-column-rule: 3px dotted #ddd;
}

I think that you would have to use some part of googles search api. After
my previous experiences wrestling with googles apis I think it is probably
going to require a significant amount of digging through the documentation.

[tw] Re: TW developers level

2017-06-16 Thread Thomas Elmiger
This is a good – but difficult – question. TW tries to give anyone the
possibility to do what developers do …

My clues and associations:

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/graphs/contributors – gives an
overview over important contributors to the core. You can click the names to
see what they might call themseves e.g. Jeremy seems to be the “Creator” of
TiddlyWiki …

The most active few could in my eyes be called Core Developers, among them
pmario and tobibeer.

Then we have many Plugin Authors, at least one TW-Professor (Steven Schneider)
and the most helpful Community Members one could wish for.

Some provide advanced Wikitext-Solutions, others master Javascript-Macros and
-Widgets. Some develop in Single-Page-Wikis, others on Node.js. Some use
Github, others don’t.

Sometimes people that find creative solutions are called TWizards.

Now you have some keywords to put in a matrix :–)

I hope that helps a bit, even if I do not have a list of generally accepted
terms but only a vague idea that there are infinite shades of gray.

[tw] Macro for Google image search

Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to make a macro/template to
include the first image from a Google image search in every tiddler with a
