[tw] [TW5] Open Wiki file in NodeJS, TiddlyServer or Tiddly Desktop

2017-10-30 Thread TonyM
Folks,

A Quick idea for comment,

I use Office 365 in the cloud with Office 2016 installed on my Windows
machine. Firefox will open an office 365 file referenced in my local
application such as word, excel and PowerPoint.

I have some technical understanding of this, but want to keep this
suggestion high-level.

Why could we not provide the ability to open tiddlywiki files in our own
local platform from the browser, based on node, which then provides a URL
address to the open the file in a browser? We can leverage the work in in
NodeJS, TiddlyServer or Tiddly Desktop to do this.

With this model we would need one solution for each operating system and
browser, but they would have a similar usage model, the local "tiddlywiki
server" need only be installed once, then for every tiddlywiki used from
that point forward, on that computer it will work. Since its configuration
is driven by the selection of TiddlyWiki files in the browser, except for
installing the "tiddlywiki Server" this should make it easy for newbies and
distribution. It also becomes optionally accessible from other devices in
the network.

The Only gap I see is for circumstances where peoples ability has being
restricted such as in the workplace, but then a portable app on a USB or a
hosted solution may be the best fit anyway.

I see this going a long way to increasing the access and usability of
tiddlywiki in the changing browser environment. I cant see changes
destroying what is an important feature for a behemoths like Microsoft
Office any time soon.

Future possibilities include importing file based wikis into folder based
wikis (nodeJS) and networking them into a nodeJS messaging, Federation and
Tiddler Share Environment. When the method presents a wealth of features,
people do not tend to consider it a problem.

Regards
Tony

Re: [tw] [Plugin] Dropboard 1.0.0 — Kanban like organization in the style of Trello using boards, lists, and cards.

2017-10-30 Thread Pit.W.

Hi Reid,

Thanks for sharing this great tool.

The switch between the two styles is miraculous.
The whole concept of the drag-and-drop GUI is fantastic.
Bringing the kanban concept to TW is great.

I think you are now a hot candidate for a "TW-Oscar-2017" (that would be
a tiny statue of a cat, standing on a green ball)

Thank You again.

Pit

PS: and of course, thanks to the owner of the cat.

Dropboard 1.0.0

Dropboard version 1 has arrived! It is now safe, stable, and ready for
use as a permanent installation in your wikis.

See the source on GitHub:

Learn from the examples and documentation in the User Guide:
http://reidgould.github.io/tiddlywiki-dropboard

Here's a quick overview of the major features.

Kanban like organization in the style of Trello using boards, lists,
and cards... But better!

Dropboard has:

  * Full integration with TiddlyWiki. Drag any tiddler into a board.
  * Collapsible lists that you can still drag cards into.
  * Lots of features to improve workflow and setup the view of your
board to be just right for the task at hand.

View and edit a huge amount of data at once using window mode and
scaling down your font size.

A full Trello style palette for TiddlyWiki called TWello!

Dropboard has been made completely by myself on my own time, and it's
taken quite a lot of it! The reason I spent the time to complete this
project is to be a key part of my design portfolio as I transition my
career into Software Engineering.

I have a list of features that I would love to add to create a
Dropboard version 2.0.0, but unfortunately this is all the time I can
spend on this project for free. If you're interested in supporting the
next version of this plugin you can support me on Patreon.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Websockets and TiddlyWiki

2017-10-30 Thread Jed Carty
And now I have a demo that updates the wiki in the browser whenever a .tid
file is updated. For the moment it only checks files in the tiddlers folder
and I haven't tested it a lot so it may make your computer come to life
and take over the world or explode or something.

But yeah, it works.

I don't know if I like the name Gatekeeper but it was the first suggestion
and I didn't feel like coming up with a better name.
This won't work without the websockets plugin also.
The repo is here https://github.com/OokTech/TW5-Gatekeeper

[tw] Re: Presenting my simple mobile layout...

2017-10-30 Thread JD
Hello again, everyone. JD here.

I've packaged the mobile layout into a plugin that can be turned on or off
at the Control Panel.

The demo site is now updated here: http://j.d.simplemobile.tiddlyspot.com/

Also, I'm very sorry to report this, but I spotted a few mistakes during
pre-packing review!!! (Also cleaned the tiddlers up a bit)

   - *$:/plugins/jd/mob/pagecontrols*
  - There were missing ending brackets for the filters for Top Right
Bar and Top Left Bar buttons (!!)
  - Updated this to also show buttons tagged with *$:/jd/tags/mobbutton*
   -
*$:/plugins/jd/mob/button/lists *
  - Now tagged with *$:/jd/tags/mobbutton* so it would show up at the
Bottombar without needing a span class
   - *$:/plugins/jd/mob/Stylesheet/main*
   - Updated to remove now-unused span class
   - *$:/plugins/jd/mob/Stylesheet/scrollhide*
   - Corrected @media class
   - *$:/plugins/jd/mob/Stylesheet/scrollshow*
   - Same as above
   - *$:/plugins/jd/mob/Stylesheet/searchfixed*
   - Same as above

Sorry guys, apparently I had a lot of brain farts.

*Future plans:*

   - Adjustable font sizes for view title, view body, edit title, and edit
   body (without affecting icon sizes)
   - Option for topbar with control buttons, including search and lists
   menu buttons
   - Option to hide bottombar (in lieu of above)

*Wishlist*
(Unlikely to happen soon if I have to learn javascript for it)

   - Swipe from edge for sidebar lists
   - Topbar search hiding on scroll down, showing again on slight scroll up
   (like with modern mobile browsers)

So far, that's all. I shall now return to lurking. :)

[tw] Re: [TW5] Websockets and TiddlyWiki

2017-10-30 Thread Jed Carty
Rob,

To make multi-user wikis work we (at OokTech) have been using wikis that
only have tiddlers added to them or ignored by git and when we make changes
we push them to a shared repo. So I am making a plugin to let me do that
from within tiddlywiki. It could also pull plugins off of GitHub or publish
them to git hub. It wouldn't be too hard to make a gui git client using
tiddlywiki from it but I haven't found any gui clients that I actually like
and I don't know how I would make a better one so I doubt I will do that.

You could also use git as an alternate way to serve plugins and tiddlers to
other people.

[tw] Re: A lightweight task management setup?

2017-10-30 Thread Diego Mesa
I've been able to define a custom New Research Journal button by following
the documentation on tiddlywiki.com. I now have the following:

which is what I desired, but now I have some more questions:

   - How do I change the ordering of that bar? My button appears at the
bottom of the "tools" tab so when I check it, it shows up as last on that
   bar.
   - For the Research Journal Tiddler default text I am making edits in
`$:/config/NewResearchJournal/Text`. I am trying to transclude the text of
   a tiddler containing that week's goals which is titled `Week 44 - 2017`
   (for this week).
  - My WRONG approach: I tried placing the following inside it:
`<$transclude tiddler=<> />` but that seems to ruin
everything! My sidebar goes crazy, and so does
`$:/config/NewResearchJournal/Text` itself! I don't want that to be
evaluated there, but evaluated when I actually make a new research
journal
tiddler. I don't think this is the right approach.
  - DESIRED result: When I click the new Research Journal Button, it is
automatically populated with the correct week number and year and has the
  following text (somehow correctly generated): `{{Week 44 - 2017}}`.
   - For the Weekly Goals Tiddler, its title is: "Week 44 - 2017". Its
   contents are:

''[[Weekly Goals|Week 44 - 2017]]:''

 [ ] task 1
 [ ] task 2

   - Since I want to transclude these contents, I have "Weekly Goas" be a
link back to this tiddler, in case I want to make edits from elsewhere. Is
there a better way to do this?

Thank you all for the help!

Re: [tw] Re: Tiddly Extension for Firefox 57?

2017-10-30 Thread Arlen Beiler
I believe there is now an option (or will be in 5.1.15) to trigger the
download saver with autosave. But if you tend to keep TiddlyWiki open, then
the download saver is not your best option, since you are tied to one
browser anyway and there are better solutions. But the download saver still
works very well for sharing wikis between users and allows quick edit and
save and dump the file back into an email.

[tw] A lightweight task management setup?

2017-10-30 Thread Diego Mesa
Hello all,

I keep a daily research journal and on Monday I set out some "Goals" for
the week. I was thinking of keeping these in tiddlywiki using `<$checkbox>
`. So today I made a new Tiddler called `Week 44 - 2017` where
I placed my goals, and in today's journal tiddler I put `{{Week 44 -
2017}}`. This generated the following questions:

   - When I "check" a checkbox in either `Week 44 - 2017` or
today's journal tiddler, that change is not reflected in the other tiddler.
Is there any way to keep these synced?
  - I saw how the taskmanagement example dealt with this, but I dont
want to have to make a tiddler for each goal/task as this is usually
  overkill.
   - How can I make a new "Research Journal button" under my title bar that
creates a new empty tiddler with two tags: Research and Journal, and
automatically adds a `{{{Week XX - }}}` where `XX` is the current week
number, and `` is the current year?
   - Is there any way to "automate" the creation and presentation of my
Monday tiddlers? I have been trying to find a use for the official "Corner
Ribbon" plugin, and think it might be of use here. Perhaps every Monday the
corner ribbon is displayed, and if one doesn't exist already, clicking it
creates a new `Week XX - ` tiddler, but if it does exist, clicking it
   opens it?
  - I know this one is more involved, so if someone could just point me
in the right direction of how to "programatically" enable/disable another
plugin? Or perhaps I just edit/modify it directly for my own purposes?
Any
  help would be great!

I called this "lightweight", just because I dont want to have to make
tiddlers for each task.

Thanks!
Diego

Tony,

TWederation already does exactly what you describe.

[tw] Re: Presenting my simple mobile layout...

2017-10-30 Thread JD
I also want that! Right now, however, it seems like something that needs
Javascript (swiping, gestures). Before I give in to my curiosity and learn
that script, too, I first would like to exhaust all basic possibilities
(with regards to styling and such).

I'm inspired by Mat's Leftbar (http://leftbar.tiddlyspot.com/), where you
can hover on the left edge of the window and the Leftbar menu will appear.
On mobile, it goes by clicking on the left edge. The Leftbar plugin works
with the mobile layout so while I still haven't integrated it cleanly yet,
please try it out. However, I found that for the two to work properly, I
had to first close the Leftbar menu via the hamburger button while in
desktop layout, before entering the mobile layout (the hamburger button is
drawn below the mobile searchbar and is unclickable). Or just have the top
bar turned off completely (doable via the control panel tab)

I'll play with this idea after Halloween. Cheers!

[tw] [TW5] Websockets and TiddlyWiki

2017-10-30 Thread TonyM
Jed,

I think there would be added value if your project facilitated a tiddler
exchange or messaging system with the unit of exchange tiddlers or groups of
tiddlers. I can discribe this idea more later.

I would think this could facilitate a loosly structured network of wikis inside
or outside a nodejs wiki

regards
tony

[tw] Tiddlywiki and multi-user access

2017-10-30 Thread TonyM
Tduser,

You may benifit from explaining a little deeper what you are after. I expect
your concern is more about the tiddlers they share, there are ways to encrypt
individual tiddlers and without wanting to sound dismissive users can have
there own tiddlywikis. The single file wiki by its nature may break some
multiuser models unless the use is readonly. The folder or nodejs
implementation could answer some multiuser needs.

There are a number of discussions that relate to this question that may boost
multiuser use but the sharability and bundling or drag and drop of tiddlers can
go along way.

Personaly I am Building a content distribution process to manage common
tiddlers between many wikis including allowing specific tiddlers to be owned by
specific wikis.

I have also raised the idea of a messaging subsystem to move tiddlers,,and
there are those whos development skills are greater than mine also proposing
similer ideas.

Give us a better idea of your needs.

Tony

[tw] Re: Presenting my simple mobile layout...

2017-10-30 Thread JD
Oh my, yes, I also found that frustrating (font sizing), especially since
I'm still in the process of learning these scripts. I tried playing with it
at first, enlargening fonts and stuff, but then I got used to the small
font and forgot about what I originally wanted. Now that I'm reminded,
however, I might get back to playing with it after the long Halloween
vacation.

Before hard-writing the font size into the CSS, however, I would first like
to play around and find a way to make that user-adjustable. This is
something I've wanted for so long: an easy way to adjust these four
things: view mode tiddler title, view mode tiddler body, edit mode tiddler
title, and edit mode tiddler body (all independent from each other and
everything else, i.e., they won't affect icon sizes). I guess I have to
learn more about tiddler fields and their manipulation via transclusion.
Again, all of those are after Halloween. Thanks for the idea!

[tw] Re: Tiddlywiki and multi-user access

2017-10-30 Thread Jed Carty
There aren't any fully working solutions yet. If you want different people
to be able to access different tiddlers than you may be able to use the
node version and have each person use their own wiki and use the
inculdeWikis part of the tiddlywiki.info files to select which tiddlers
each person sees. But I am not aware of any complete working solution to
this yet so you would have to make the system yourself.
