Thank you, PMario. Your explanations were REALLY helpful! I will re-enter
the saver settings and go from there.

[tw5] Re: Long Delay Saving with GitHub Saver

2021-05-23 Thread Dan Hoffman
I think I've started answering my own question by comparing my TW settings
to other TWs on GitHub. By removing all of the information I had entered
under ControlPanel -> Saving -> GitHub Saver, in essence defaulting to
"Save changes automatically", the long delay has disappeared, which is
great. My question now is this: What is the purpose of GitHub Saver (i.e.,
under what circumstances would one need to enter that information)? I
thought I needed that in order to save my changes on GitHub. Maybe there's
a difference between saving to GitHub and GitHub Pages? I pretty sure I'm
missing something very basic , so thank you in advance for your
patience.

[tw5] Long Delay Saving with GitHub Saver

2021-05-23 Thread Dan Hoffman
I have a new single file TW hosted on GitHub Pages
. I followed Mohammad's
helpful tutorial "Tiddlywiki and GitHub Saver."

I'm able to save changes but there is a long delay (6 - 7 full secs)
between pushing the "Save Changes" button and seeing the "Saved wiki"
prompt.

I've done some comparisons with other TWs on GitHub and they seem to be
much more responsive. Wondering if I did something wrong or if I need to
tweak any settings. Currently, my TW is empty with no plugins. Any
suggestions for a noob? Thanks in advance.

[tw5] Help with External Links and Shiraz Buttons

2021-04-25 Thread Dan Hoffman
Hello All,

I am new to TW and very much a beginner. I'm using TiddlyWiki on Node.js

I've learned to use External Links
 and find myself
frequently using them to link to various files, something like this:

   - [ext[Link to PDF|file:///myfile.pdf]]

I've also had luck applying External Links to links generated by Hook
(the macOS productivity app). These links
look something like this:

   - [ext[Link to Email|hook://email/ABC123.gmail.com]]
   - [ext[Link to Folder|hook://file/ABC123]]

All of this works very well. My question is how I can combine External
Links with buttons made using the Shiraz plugin
. In Shiraz, a button looks something
like this:

   - <$link overrideClass="btn btn-primary" to="target">My Link

However, when I replace "target" with an External Link (one that works
without a Shiraz button), it no longer works. Instead, the button treats
the link as a tiddler title instead of opening the file in the correct app
(e.g., Mail, Preview, Finder). This is what I expected to work:

   - <$link overrideClass="btn btn-primary" to="
   hook://email/ABC123.gmail.com">My Link

I have also tried this:

   - <$link overrideClass="btn btn-primary" to="
   [ext[hook://email/ABC123.gmail.com]]">My Link

I feel like I'm missing something very basic, but I just can't seem to
figure it out. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

To summarize, I'd like to combine an External Link with a Shiraz button so
that that button opens the local file.

Thank you kindly for any help you might be able to offer.

[tw5] Single File TW: Dropbox vs. "TW5 in the Sky for Dropbox"

2021-02-25 Thread Dan Hoffman
Hi All,

I'd like to better understand how to use TW with Dropbox. Currently, I'm
using TiddlyDesktop (0.0.14) with a single file TW.

My understanding is using TW with a service like Dropbox might provide two
benefits: 1) the ability to have a cloud backup of my TW, and 2) the
ability to access my TW on another device (after syncing of course).

Assuming this is semi-correct, what's the difference between 1) saving a
single file TW in a Dropbox folder and letting Dropbox do its thing, and 2)
using @Arlene22's "TiddlyWiki5 in the Sky for Dropbox"
? Are there advantages and
disadvantages to each approach?

I apologize if this has already been addressed. I've tried searching the
community but haven't seen/found a simple explanation on this.

Thank you for helping a newcomer along 

[tw5] Limiting Number of Tiddlers Listed in Recent Tab

2021-02-25 Thread Dan Hoffman
Hi All,

I'm relatively new to the TW universe. I'm a long-time Evernote user
looking for an alternative. The more I learn about TW, the more I recognize
its power and flexibility. I'm currently using TiddleDesktop (0.0.14) with
a single file wiki.

One of the things I'd like to do is *limit* the number of tiddlers listed
in my Recent's tab. To do this, I believe I should edit the macro in
$:/core/ui/SideBar/Recent, which shows the following:

<$macrocall $name="timeline"
format={{$:/language/RecentChanges/DateFormat}}/>

If this is correct, how would I alter this to list (for example) the ten
most recently edited tiddlers only without the date headings?

Thank you in advance for this community and any advice someone might be
able to provide.

Dan
