[tw5] Re: Local-First Storage, with backup to cloud (Github)

2020-04-25 Thread Mike Manchester
Check out Nextcloud you can signup for a free
account or setup your own Cloud. I found this solution to work for editing
offline on my computer and then syncing when I was connected to the
internet. I'm using Tiddlydesktop on my lap top's and Quine on my IOS
devices I only wish I had a solution for Android.

[tw5] Re: Rethinking tiddlywiki.com

2020-04-24 Thread Mike Manchester
For the longest time I struggled with finding away to use Tiddlywiki on all
my platforms. So I think it should also include a workable solution for
working with Tiddlywiki on Windows, Mac,Linux, IOS and Android. For me that
involves TiddlyDesktop on my Mac, Windows and Linux and for my iPhone I'm
using Quine2. I don't have an Android device so don't know what to use on
that platform. I save my Tiddlywiki on Nextcloud which makes them available
on all my platforms. This has made TiddlyWiki very useful. I now have a
Journal, an inventory document and a document with all the information
realted to camping to include my Camper inform, such as what maintenance I
do and when I did it. When I added new items and a link to all the manuals.
I plan to add campsites to go to and campsites visited with notes. Point is
that before I found this solution I wasn't comfortable keeping things in
TiddlyWiki because I could only get to it on my Desktop machine. I know on
the current page there are a number of options and I tried most of them
before ending up with my current setup. This solution was simple to setup
and didn't require many addition items only TiddlyDesktop and Quine2.
The idea solution would be to have a solution that worked with a browser
but I found that required to many different solutions depending on browser
and device. Accessing on a Web site like tiddlyspot works but sometimes I
don't have access to the internet. Using Nextcloud I can use Tiddlywiki
offline and sync when I'm connected again.
Let me know if I can help.

Just my thoughts.

Re: [tw5] Re: Ride the Wave

2020-04-14 Thread Mike Manchester
I'm with Ed, after trying many ways I've ended up with Quine(2) and
TiddlyDesktop. When I was using node.js I loved some of the features but to
me they were to costly for me. I wanted to be able to store my wiki's in
the cloud so I could access them from anywhere and have them updated when I
made a change. With node.js I haven't found an inexpensive way to do that
with out having a dedicated website where the wiki's live and as a user I'm
not knowledgeable enough to setup a website running node.js for just my
wiki's.

With Quine and Tiddlydesktop I can use NextCloud or google docs to save my
wiki's on and access them from my desktop, iphone, or ipad. I'm sad that
Quine2 isn't available on Android so I'm not able to use this solution on
my Kindles. But I usually have my phone with me.

 Hi Anne-Laure

Looking at your tutorial - you suggest the user download the file and
play with it. Then later you give the "proper" instructions.

But there is no way to save changes at that point if they have just
downloaded it. Wouldn't it be better to have them play with it in the
online empty version just to get familiar with it? Then go through the
download and 'how to save changes' processes?

 Dave

I have also seen other, seemingly unrelated interest in TiddlyWiki
because of Roam Research, and perhaps my stuff and TiddlyRoam have had
 something to do with that.

So be prepared for a wave of new people coming here with questions!
And possibly some really great hacks and plugins and ideas.

This could be a big moment in TiddlyWiki's history. But it will
probably require patience, time and effort as the questions multiply
 for a
while. This is a curve we don't want to see flatten quickly.

Luis, many thanks this will be great help. Only 1 question. What does one
have to do to keep it up to date with any changes?
Thanks again.

[tw5] Why I don't use TiddlyWiki as much as I'ld like

2018-06-23 Thread Mike Manchester
I've always been a big fan of TiddlyWiki. I've been using it in one form or
another since about 2010. But the one thing still frustrates me is the
awkwardness of using on multiple systems. When I was just use it on one
system it works great.

I use many different OS Linux, Mac, Windows, iOS. I have yet to find away
to use TiddlyWiki on all of these. I've tried Dropbox, Google Drive and you
still have to jump through hoops to get to run.

Does anyone have a solution that will work anywhere and on any OS? Maybe
it's just me. Maybe I don't know how to access it.

I have so many ways I want to use it but if I can't get to if from anywhere
with anything none of that matters.

[tw] Re: Testers needed for TiddlyServer

2017-10-22 Thread Mike Manchester
Do you know when the Linux version will be available? I run my TiddlyServer
on both MAC and Linux and would love to help test but also don't want to
loose the ability to edit my files on Linux.
Thanks
