[tw] Change/import theme in TiddlySpace: basics?

2010-10-08 Thread Verrehaal
Thanks Mario! Making progress now:
http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/517/neuiemaltered.png

There are still some issues:

**1**
SidebarButtons contain the icons. height width settings. eg:
 image tfgCloseAll.svg height:20px width:20px

I did this, using height:3em width:3em so the buttons scale with the page. It
looks good at first, but when a button is clicked it seems that the size
modifier is lost: you can see this for the 'glasses' (what is this icon for?)
and 'upload' icons in the screenshot. How to rectify this?

I also did not understand whether it's possible to specify tooltip text in the
image macro. It is important to have icon tooltips as the people I will invite
to the space are new to TW.

**2**
There is no easy way to remove the second one. I like it that way.
Edit ToolbarCommands tiddler to change it.

Too complicated for me to understand at this point... It's not very important.

However, something related: can I add a button in the toolbar to open/close the
comments area, rather than have it show permanently for every tiddler? I
suppose this would involve a change in NeUIemTheme too?

**3**
- Where can I change the colour of the comments title bar (ochre-yellow right
now, see screenshot)?
- Following http://tiddlyguv.org/CommentsPlugin.html#CommentsPluginInfo I set
textRows:2 to make the comment box smaller. But textCols:some number doesn't
do anything. Any idea why?

**4**
Regarding opening the blog:
- Will the people I'll invite each have to create a TiddlySpace? Is it not
possible for them to have accounts (maybe using OpenID) without creating a
space?
- I have checked 'generate RSS feed' in Advanced Options. What is the address
of the feed?

many thanks for your efforts!

~P

[tw] Change/import theme in TiddlySpace: basics?

2010-10-07 Thread Verrehaal
(... continued from previous post)

**2**
have you tried my space neui-em

A very neat design - nice clean icons, pane-hiding arrows. It fits the small
screen better than the default:
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/8552/neuiem.png
Some problems with it however:
- The font is still too big, especially the titles (in FF I'd zoom out once to
get the main text right, but 3 times for the titles). How can I change this for
my own space? Also the icon layout and sizes, or having text like modified by
..., are not really optimized for a small screen.
- As you can see on the 800px screen the tiddler list (right pane) has very
little room, especially when the 'type selection box' (don't know what it's
called) is hovered open; It would help if collapsing the left pane (MainMenu
pane) would shift the central pane to the left to double the space for the
right pane...
- The big icons on the right are nice but don't have tooltips: confusing.
- When the 'additional commands' are shown on a tiddler, you get 2 'Close this
tiddler' icons, superfluously.

**3**
For example, you can use comments by including the comments space
 http://comments.tiddlyspace.com/
and editing your ViewTemplate to include this line
 div class='comments-wrapper' macro='Comments'/div
where you want the comments to be displayed.

This works beautifully with the default theme [Note: the C in macro='Comments'
should be uncapitalised] :)
... but not at all with neui-em? :(

**4**
I think this use case can be achieved by using multiple spaces.
The leader can have there own space where they keep their own notes.
The team can use a different space for their project keeping the work/notes
private (i.e. visible only to members)

I suppose... and each member, not just the leader, could have their own notes
space. But whenever someone clicks through from their notes space to a tiddler
in the team space, it will open a new browser tab and load the whole team space
again... not very tight and perhaps prohibitive for large team spaces?

**5**
Finally, in my experimentation I've ended up with a couple of spaces that are
so messed up I give up on them -- but including 'deleted' hasn't brought them
down. Could one of you delete them manually for me? Incidentally, what happens
to these names: are they re-usable again? It's natural to choose the
best-fitting name for a space, but if it gets messed up and must be killed, is
the name lost too?

How to import a TW theme to TiddlySpace?
 I've tried entering e.g. http://tiddlythemes.com/empties/Rin.html into
ImportTiddlers yet it results in an Unable to import from this
location due to cross-domain restrictions. error.

You cannot import directly from another site - instead, you need to
download the document and then import it as explained here:
http://faq.tiddlyspace.com/#%5B%5BHow%20do%20I%20import%20my%20TiddlyWiki%20into%20TiddlySpace%3F%5D%5D

Thanks for reporting this issue, we'll try to make the process more obvious.

[tw] Change/import theme in TiddlySpace: basics?

2010-10-06 Thread Verrehaal
Thanks for your replies folks.

Allow me to throw lots of questions and remarks at you, for my own benefit and
hopefully for TS too. Please forgive my going off-topic a bit.

have you tried copy paste the 5 tiddlers listed Tags:RinTheme to a
 tiddlyspace?

Just tried that: it seems to be working fine. (Was a bit confusing because I
lost a 'new tiddler' option on screen after I copy/pasted the Rin PageTemplate;
but I found 'new tiddler' on the backstage.)

have a look at:http://themes.tiddlyspace.com/ which contains ready
 to use TiddlySpace themes.

That works, too. The classictheme in particular, as it has better font sizes.
Let me mention that the default TS theme (while otherwise nice) doesn't look
good on a small screen like the 800x480 I'm using (in Firefox 3.6, even
fullscreen). With default zoom the titles look way too big:

http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/4369/tsfaqscreenshot.png

When zooming out the regular text becomes too small; I'd say the titles are too
big /relatively/:

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/1104/tsfaqscreenshot2.png

Not sure if it's possible to set font sizes so they look good on any reasonable
resolution... but surely there's % and ems and so on (newbie here)?

I think an old TW theme will not work very well, without access to
the new TiddlySpace requirements. eg: switching between public/
 private, following,

I just tried importing quickstart_tiddlyblog.html (downloaded from TiddlyTools)
to a testspace. That's more than just a 'theme', I guess. It seems to mostly
work, but not quite:

http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/756/messy1screenshot.png
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/4294/messy2screenshot.png

Even without the apparent glitches, like you say I reckon TS's 'social'
features wouldn't quite mesh with the social options (like commenting on a
tiddler) available through this import... :(

Two more sets of comments/questions.

[1] Still regarding layout etc. If I include, say, 'classictheme' (or
copy/paste 'Rin'), the result has no search field, regrettably. How do I go
about adding one? Is this 'includable', TS-style, and how would I know other
than asking here? Or should I 'import' it from a (which?) more general TW file?
What about adding a 'new journal entry' button, a calendar, and the option to
comment on tiddlers? I see e.g. CalendarPlugin listed as 'currently loaded'
under backstage:plugins, but that doesn't make a calendar show up...?

[2] I would love to use TW/TS for a multi-user project blog (with the above
elements). I'm unclear whether this is currently possible. Or is another type
of TW solution more viable right now? Note I don't have my own server space.

Also here's a thought. Would it not make sense to make a distinction between
the space owner and other space members? It'd be up to the owner to grant other
members owner-like rights. Two aspects of this might be:
- Non-owner members would not be able to delete tiddlers (unless granted that
right). Now they can, which may be risky: say, conflicts arise in your group of
members and somebody starts deleting their 'enemy's' tiddlers... no good.
- There'd be three rather than two levels of potential 'privateness' to a
tiddler: public (as current), members-only, and private (which only the owner
and members-with-that-right see). Thus I could lead a space on a project
involving a bunch of people (members), keep some notes and thoughts purely of
and for myself in the same space (handy), and show the larger public some
facade tiddlers.

Just my newbie's thoughts, given my limited comprehension of what this is all
about, plus an idea of what I'd like to do with it (and maybe others too).

Re: [tw] Change/import theme in TiddlySpace: basics?

2010-10-06 Thread Colm Britton
Hi Verrehaal,

Lets see if I can answer a few of these questions for you.

have you tried copy paste the 5 tiddlers listed Tags:RinTheme to a
  tiddlyspace?

Just tried that: it seems to be working fine. (Was a bit confusing because
I lost a 'new tiddler' option on screen after I copy/pasted the Rin
PageTemplate; but I found 'new tiddler' on the backstage.)

TiddlySpace uses a different set of Edit, View and Page Templates from a
standard TW so this is why things like the new tiddler option will have gone
missing.
In the TiddlySpace PageTemplate there is a line
div id='sidebarOptions' refresh='content' tiddler='SideBarOptions'/div
which results in the commands like 'new tiddler' appearing.
This is done through something we call tiddler transclusion. You can read
more about it here:
http://tiddlywiki.org/wiki/Transclusion

have a look at:http://themes.tiddlyspace.com/which contains ready
  to use TiddlySpace themes.

That works, too. The classictheme in particular, as it has better font
sizes. Let me mention that the default TS theme (while otherwise nice)
doesn't look good on a small screen like the 800x480 I'm using (in Firefox
3.6, even fullscreen). With default zoom the titles look way too big:

Not sure if it's possible to set font sizes so they look good on any
reasonable resolution... but surely there's % and ems and so on (newbie
here)?

Thanks for pointing this out to us. We'll try to rectify that so that there
is a better viewing experience at 800x600

 Two more sets of comments/questions.

[1] Still regarding layout etc. If I include, say, 'classictheme' (or
copy/paste 'Rin'), the result has no search field, regrettably. How do I go
about adding one?
Similar to above. It needs to be in the PageTemplate. The default TS theme
has it on the 3rd line, like so;
div class='header'
div id='sidebarSearch'
span macro='search search'/span
/div

This time instead of using tiddler transclusion a macro is being used. There
are a set of default macros in TW/TS that perform certain tasks, and other
macros(plugins) can be written to plugin to your TW/TS. There are lots out
there already if you know what you want :)
Again this might help - http://tiddlywiki.org/wiki/Macro

Is this 'includable', TS-style, and how would I know other than asking
here? Or should I 'import' it from a (which?) more general TW file? What
about adding a 'new journal entry' button, a calendar, and the option to
comment on tiddlers? I see e.g. CalendarPlugin listed as 'currently loaded'
under backstage:plugins, but that doesn't make a calendar show up...?
The majority of things you mention here can be achieved by using plugins
that people have written. The link above should help you understand how to
use them.
For example, you can use comments by including the comments space
http://comments.tiddlyspace.com/

and editing your ViewTemplate to include this line
div class='comments-wrapper' macro='Comments'/div
where you want the comments to be displayed.

[2] I would love to use TW/TS for a multi-user project blog (with the
above elements). I'm unclear whether this is currently possible. Or is
another type of TW solution more viable right now? Note I don't have my own
server space.

You can do this now by using tiddlyspace. Having a space for your project
and adding the other users as members of the space

 - There'd be three rather than two levels of potential 'privateness' to a
tiddler: public (as current), members-only, and private (which only the
owner and members-with-that-right see). Thus I could lead a space on a
project involving a bunch of people (members), keep some notes and thoughts
purely of and for myself in the same space (handy), and show the larger
public some facade tiddlers.

I think this use case can be achieved by using multiple spaces.
The leader can have there own space where they keep their own notes.
The team can use a different space for their project keeping the work/notes
private (i.e. visible only to members), and making the facade tiddlers
public so that non members can see them
Just my newbie's thoughts, given my limited comprehension of what this is
all about, plus an idea of what I'd like to do with it (and maybe others
too).

 ~P

Hope that answers at least some of your questions

[tw] Change/import theme in TiddlySpace: basics?

2010-10-05 Thread Plausible
Hello,

How to import a TW theme to TiddlySpace?

I've tried entering e.g. http://tiddlythemes.com/empties/Rin.html into
ImportTiddlers yet it results in an Unable to import from this
location due to cross-domain restrictions. error.

Same for trying to import the http://www.TiddlyTools.com/#ImportTiddlersPlugin
tool.

I gather from other posts that it /is/ possible to change (import?)
themes, but can't see the basic steps to be made.

cheers
