Right. I hadn't thought of that route. 

It makes a lot of sense to me to help new users understand the differences 
between TWC & TW5.

I do think "how  to start using TW?" is a broad issue of interest & 
relevance. Whilst "saving" is one major issue, especially at the moment 
(albeit we have multiple ways forward), "TWC v. TW5" is another that is 
also still in play.

That would generally be a button widget.
As you noticed, you need to separate between widgets and ActionWidgets.
Your OP does not implement an ActionWidget as you find examples of on 
tiddlywiki.com / in the github repo:

...provided, that you implemented the mechanism that does this for 
tiddlywiki.com.

Simply add a tiddler tagged like:

<$edit field="caption" class="tc-edit-texteditor" placeholder="caption"/>

...styled the way you want it, though.
