[time-nuts] GPSDO Comparison - Never Happened?

I remember a while back a discussion about people contributing their various
GPSDOs to someone who could do some proper (and hopefully unbiased) tests
and comparisons. Did I totally miss out, or did the idea just die?

The reason I mention this is I recently had to move my office for a few
months and I don't have any GPS access, hence all my GPSDOs' and accessories
are sitting in storage until I move back.

I think it would be really interesting to see how some of the various
products compare (that's assuming someone like Tom doesn't already own every
last time piece known to man - yet). :)

Quite a few people responded and have sent me GPSDO
already. What I haven't done is finished testing all those
that I planned and put the results into a summary web page.

Ah ha, they might as well join the lot here then. Send me
email offline about loan logistics.

I'm currently going through the large group-buy batch of
Trimble Thunderbolts but I have timespace for a few more
now that summer is over.

A while back someone had some Jupiter GPS engines on EBAY. Did they all go?
Any one know of a reasonably priced (aka cheap) one?

I sold probably 10 or so here and there (both 5V 3.3V Jupiter 8's), I
don't know if I have any left or not. I'll dig through my boxes at the
office either Monday or Tuesday and let you know. I *think* I sold all my
spares though.

I can also dig through my eBay emails to see if I can find the person who I
bought the lot from before and give you what info I have, maybe they still
have some.

If you watch ebay for Zodiac GPS there are development kits that pop up
from time to time. It's basically the GPS board, interface, case, magnetic
mount antenna, cables, etc. I have one and I added a BNC connection on the
back for the 10 kHz output. You can also solder a couple wires and add PPS
to the serial port.

Hi Group,

I just recently completed a GPSDO inside a HP5328A. I was going to use the
Schera board but opted for the VE2ZAZ. At first I tried to cannibalize the
HP5328A's internal power supply for either the +/-15VDC or +5/-5.2VDC supply
but I discovered the hard way that they would not supply enough current
(burnt out CR1 and Q7) or the supplies would not be well regulated. I opted
therefore to include inside the case a +/-12VDC swtiching supply powered
externally by a 24VDC wall wart. From the +/-12VDC dual supply I cleaned up
the rails with an L7805 and L7905. I was able to bring out to the the rear
panel the 10Mhz and 5Mhz references plus the SMA GPS antenna connector. On
the side panel I put in a momentary pushbutton switch to reset the GPS if
needed plus a DB9 RS232 for serial communicatiosn with either the GPS using
software like VisualGPS) or to monitor the VE2ZAZ board status. A simple
DPDT switch next to the DB9 connector controls the serial selection. I have
complete pictures if anyone is interested and it works very nicely.
