[time-nuts] New M12+ and M12M compatible GPS module
For those of you looking for a new design GPS receiver module compatible with the Motorola M12+ and M12M receivers, Synergy has developed the u-blox based SSR-6Tr that is plug compatible with M12x receivers. The SSR-6tr includes Motorola binary protocol as well as u-blox binary and NMEA protocols. This development was announced at the PTTI Conference in Long Beach, CA last year. Technical details, samples and production information will be posted shortly on Synergy's' web site (www.synergy-gps.com). Prices of this better performing, backward compatible SSR-6Tr GPS timing receiver are expected to be as listed for the current Motorola designed M12M timing receiver distributed by Synergy. Synergy's normal 10% educational discount applies to non-commercial educational pursuits including Ham Radio. For features and performance data, see the LEA-6T timing receiver module specifications at www.ublox.com. Size, weight, power consumption and connector locations are similar to M12x receivers to guarantee backward compatibility. [time-nuts] difference between Oncore M12 and M12+T (useful when buying online)
Every now and then I see e-mails like these. I would like to remind everyone that Synergy Systems, the USA distributor for the M12 series receivers, offers Ham Radio and Educational (time nuts) users a new M12M with the precision time firmware and an on board battery for only $59.18 with the 10% Ham/Edu discount (sown from $65.75). This unit also includes both Motorola binary and NMEA message formats. Synergy can be found at www.synergy-gps.com or at (858) 566-0666. They have been very good to the Ham and educational communities for many years. Re: [time-nuts] Oncore VP problem
Nigel, Your computer may be sensing the serial data stream and declaring it to be a mouse. This is a generic problem having nothing to do with Tac32 but it and the solution are in the CNS Clock II and Tac32 manual available where you got the software. P.S., I am in the UK at the AMSAT-UK conference. Then if you find it useful, a legal copy can be purchased from Rick, or at members discount from TAPR (http://www.tapr.org/gps_tac32.html). --- Hi Tom Many thanks for the suggestion. You may have seen my subsequent post in which I commented that I had tried TAC32 without solving my problem, only to find the kit was working ok but with an incorrectly labelled connector. TAC32 does look useful though so I'll check it over more thoroughly later. One interesting side effect.. Some time after shutting down TAC32 last night, but with the Oncore still connected to the serial port and outputting data, my PS2 connected mouse started misbehaving, with the pointer jumping all over the place then settling down for a while before repeating the performance. It didn't occur to me at first that the incoming serial data might have anything to do with it until it started again this morning and I eventually stopped it by disconnecting the serial lead from the receiver. Whilst I can't say for sure that running TAC32 was what caused it, it's not something I've ever seen in the past nor previously this past few days after running WinOncore. I'll check later to see if the port shut down properly and also take a look at the Oncore message stream, perhaps TAC32 may have changed something there as part of its auto setup routine? regards Nigel GM8PZR ___ time-nuts mailing list -- time-nuts@febo.com To unsubscribe, go to https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts and follow the instructions there. ___ time-nuts mailing list -- time-nuts@febo.com To unsubscribe, go to https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts and follow the instructions there.

For those working in the *nix world, let me put in a plug for grace (plasma-gate.weizmann.ac.il/Grace/ ). It's a quite capable plotting tool, and what's really nice is that with the appropriate incantations it can operate in either interactive WYSIWYG mode or in batch mode from the command line (or a script). I've also figured out a way (with the help of an external perl script) to modify the basic plot parameters on the fly, so I can automagically generate customized plots without having to manually edit the grace configuation (that's my stable-stats program -- a bit of info is at http://www.febo.com/time-freq/tools). What's cool is that I can use the interactive mode to design a pretty chart, and then use the batch mode to automatically update it with new data. As a famously obnoxious computer columnist used to say, highly recommended.
