Re: [time-nuts] LORAN C still on the air 24 hours SRS 700 looking good

2013-03-21 Thread Scott Harris
Yeah, I don't have the antenna for the SRS 700, so I'm going to have to build
something. Just looking for a probability of success before I decide to give it
a try.

Boy I am going to guess less effectively then I hear wwvb here on the east
coast Boston. But as Stan says. Give it a try can't hurt also try at night
the propagation is different. Though best results are a day path.
By the way on the ole wwvb I use a 10' square loop 800' of low cap wire
 preamp etc.
Nothing says you couldn't build the same for CO. Broaden it a bit.

 Hello Scott,

Fire it up and set it to a GRI of 89700 and give it a listen.

[time-nuts] Is a FS700 useable in the USA?

2011-11-05 Thread Scott Harris
I picked up a SRS FS700 LORAN-C frequency standard cheap and is seem to be
functional, but I don't have the active antenna. I've googled around and it
seems that the Coast Guard has shut down its LORAN sites, but that there still
are some sites working in the USA. Is this true?

I live about 20 miles west of Boulder, CO. Can I rig up a simple antenna and
pick up a useful signal? I've looked around in the list archives and it seems
like I need to put a resistor across the antenna jack in order to fool the unit
into thinking it has the active antenna attached.

Thanks,
