[time-nuts] Symmetricom 58535A GPS antenna splitters FS

2010-08-30 Thread Mike Feher
Rather than email all of the individuals who emailed me with interest in
purchasing some of the subject splitters, I wanted to inform you that I am
now home, and can get them in the mail upon receipt of your funds. So far
two individuals already sent me funds by PayPal, but, it would be a lot more
convenient for me to minimize the trips to the PO if the rest were to send
the funds as well. Thanks for all of the interest, which this time turned
out to be totally unsolicited. 73 - Mike

Hi Mike,
Do you still have any of these splitters available by any chance?

Thanks!

Re: [time-nuts] Symmetricom 58535A GPS antenna splitters FS

2010-04-04 Thread Mike Feher
Bob -

Glad you received the splitters OK and hope you had a nice Easter with your
family. I have never had one of these apart, so, cannot comment at this
time. Some time ago I did take an HP splitter apart, but, only after it
died. Turned out to be the 3.2 volt regulator. I just bypassed it with a
piece of wire and it has been working for years. Since the GPS receiver
driving it is 5 volts, the amplifier inside did not mind the difference
between 3.2 or 5 volts. These are all supposed to be smart splitters, as you
well know, so, I wonder how simple resistive divider on the output of the
amplifier alone would work. Regardless, sure sounds like it would be easy to
make a line amp from one. Just make sure the DC gets from the port you are
going to use to the amp, and will also provide adequate load to the receiver
to let it think it is connected to an antenna and not give a fault. Good
luck with trying to find a schematic. Probably easier to reverse engineer
it. Regards - Mike

Hi

The gizmos came in while we were off to visit the kid in Maryland. They look
great - THANKS!!!

As far as I can see looking at them, each channel terminates in about an 8
db pad. I don't have a microscope handy so the resistor markings are a bit
hard to read. If I'm right about the pad, simply pulling it out should turn
them into line amps.

Off to look for a schematic

Thanks again!

Bob

Yes, modifying a two port may be the easiest way to go. If you can get a
4
port, you will probably realize more gain. I also have a bunch of 4
ports,
but not nearly as many as the two ports. Please let me know how you
intend
to pay for these. If by check, just let me know when you mail it, as I am
not going to wait till it clears. I sold a total of 14 of these, and it
would be convenient if I could mail them all at once. One guy is paying
 buy
check, the rest have already paid by PayPal. I did send you an invoice.
 So,
just waiting to hear from you :). Thanks - Mike

 Hi

Line amps appear to be unobtanium. I'm wondering if it would be better to
mod some two ports as line amps ...
