IMO it would be better if in that case the content should be gzipped as a whole and then sent with the new content-length set and without chunking. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 27916] - context.xml in war appears to require a docBase

ANY REPLY MADE TO THIS MESSAGE WILL NOT BE COLLECTED AND INSERTED IN THE BUG DATABASE. http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27916 context.xml in war appears to require a docBase --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2004-05-27 09:39 --- I may have a different motivation than David, but I too think that docBase should not be required in some situations. Consider the following scenario: 1. I deploy the war file (or expanded war structure) locally, it's already present on the machine where I run Tomcat. 2. The war file is not under webapps; it resides outside the server installation 3. I have put context.xml into the archive's META-INF directory, as recommended by http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.0-doc/appdev/deployment.html In this case, I will supply the location of the war file when deploying using manager, and I expect the server will use the 'path' attribute for the context path. However, it shouldn't require the 'docBase' attribute, as that's already determined by the war location. After all, Jan Luehe says in his evaluation of 28272 that sometimes docBase is ignored: 'path' attribute inside META-INF/context.xml is used, whereas 'docBase' attribute is ignored (it is implicitly set to the WAR file location). Currently, omitting 'docBase' in my scenario will not work, because the server will not find the deployed application after restart. I suggest this could be fixed as follows: When manager deploys the application, then besides copying context.xml into $CATALINA_BASE/conf/Catalina/localhost, it also maintains information about the 'docBase' of deployed applications for apps that do not specify docBase in context.xml. (This could be done by maintaining a properties file that maps file names of context.xml files in $CATALINA_BASE/conf/Catalina/localhost to real docBase locations of the applications.) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Tomcat 5.0.25 does not honor error-page directive?
In a freshly unzipped jakarta-tomcat-5.0.25 installation I added error-page error-code404/error-code location/404.html/location /error-page (copied from servlet-2_4-fr-spec.pdf page 153) Just before the closing /web-app in webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/web.xml I then copied a simple 404.html file to webapps/ROOT. However, when requesting some non existing page like http://127.0.0.1:8080/blub.jsp I get the standard browser 404 error page (in my case MSIE) not my 404.html. Is this a bug? Hi, This is a tomcat-user, not tomcat-dev question. Make sure your Show Friendly Error Pages option in IE (Advanced Options page) is disabled. This works for me in 5.0.25 (and it's part of our automated test scripts before a release, which pass needless to say). AW: Tomcat 5.0.25 does not honor error-page directive?
I added the error-page tag to the end of the original webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/web.xml (before /web-app). That even does match the order in the Deployment Descriptor Version 2.3. -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Rick Knowles [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Gesendet: Donnerstag, 27. Please take your time to fully understand the consequence and do not discard the idea because the singular piece of code you seam to focus on will not be updated. You are free to carry this RFE to the most up to date logging framework catalina intent to use, but in the mean time, tomcat 5.0.24 user do not have access to those updates. You effectively said to every tomcat users, that they must start writing scripts, or task, or cron jobs, or logrotate setup, or background thread in a monitoring servlet, that will monitor a file system for logs and delete older ones manually. This is a waste of energy, as the logger itself can do a simple check, as it is already aware of every log details. Rolling implies the concept of circular buffer and means that the size of the storage is finite. You can't affrim your logs rotate unless you guaranty the log storage won't exceed a prescribes size, time or filecount. You logger barely shifts files, which is just a convenient implementation choice, but doesn't fulfill the rolling requirements. The lack of this feature makes it difficult for system integrators to deploy apps without having to worry about badly behaving loggers that effectively leaks on hard disk. Thanks for reconsidering this request. Note: I don't get that Remy thing you are refering to, but remember that everyone hears a voice when they read, and that voice is reflecting the mood and attitude of the reader. I don't know how my texts were interpreted, but I mostly push non-objectively when thing really don't make sense. ClassDefNotFound Problem
Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to Java and Tomcat. I hope this problem can be easily explained. I am using Tomcat 5.0.24. I have an application, packaged it in a WAR file, and deployed it. This application has a login page. After logging in, the application redirects to a page named search.jsp. This page loads a package (import search.*). Package search includes several classes. The two in question are Search.class and SearchSession.class. SearchSession is started as a bean and it has an instance of the Search class in it. However, when search.jsp loads (and loads SearchSession) I get a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. When I view the source, it is where SearchSession creates an instance of the Search class. I have verified that the classes are under WEB-INF/classes/search. Any ideas of what could be going wrong? Admin webapp help for persistence
Hi, I've just added support for specifying thread priority in the coyote connector (http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=28914). I think I have all the code in place including for viewing and editing this attribute in the Admin webapp: it looks fine in the GUI. However, if one modifies the value and commits changes, the old attribute value is written to server.xml. Amy or someone more knowledgable than myself: can you please look at the connector threadPriority attribute persistence code and tell me what I missed? ;) Thanks, Yoav Shapira Millennium Research Informatics This e-mail, including any attachments, is a confidential business communication, and may contain information that is confidential, proprietary and/or privileged. Time for 5.0.26?
Hi, We need to do a new release, 5.0.26, because of http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=29255. Does anyone have stuff they're working on, and would therefore like me to wait a couple of days (or more, or less?) before tagging and building? I probably won't have time to do it before the weekend, and I'm out of town over the long weekend, so it'll be Tuesday at the earliest anyhow, unless Remy feels a desire to do it instead and we need to do it before Tuesday. dynamic mapping of jsp's from jars
I am thinking this question walks the edge between tomcat-users and tomcat-dev, so please forgive me if I have chosen unwisely... Background: We are wanting to add a capability to our webapp which requires that we be able to reference precompiled jsp's from multiple jars discovered at the time the webapp starts. Currently, we precompile all our core jsp's into a jar, and get that to work by making sure the jar is in the codebase for tomcat, and including a snippet (generated at build time) into web.xml that looks like a series of these: servlet servlet-namecom.tripwire.jsp.index_jsp/servlet-name servlet-classcom.tripwire.jsp.index_jsp/servlet-class /servlet One per compiled jsp. That is fine for our core jsp's which can be mapped statically like this. But as I said, now were adding the ability to add plugins into our webapp, which can contain their own UI elements in the form of jsp's. Requirement: What I need is a way to dynamically add the mappings to tomcat while the webapp starts. I have poked around in the code and discovered JspRuntimeContext.addWrapper() which looks like what I'd want to use to dynamically map the jsp's as our webapp starts up -- assuming I can discover the mappings, which I will be able to. What I am not clear on is precisely how to use this functionality, which appears to be somewhat internal to tomcat, from my webapp -- i.e. would I need to override JspServlet with my own? Any ideas, pointers, reprimands, etc? Thanks, rjf - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Time for 5.0.26?
I think Tuesday is good. I fixed some code that was broken in the simple manager implementation for clustering, most users use the DeltaManager, but some wish to use the old one, so that is all fixed Filip - Original Message - From: Shapira, Yoav [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Tomcat Developers List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 27, 2004 3:12 PM Subject: Time for 5.0.26? This happens only after a badly applied upgrade. The fix to make sure this doesn't happen is to add jmx.jar to the CLASSPATH after commons-logging-api.jar. Without this fix, you may see this message in catalina.out: Bootstrap: Class loader creation threw exception java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/management/MBeanServerFactory at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.createClassLoader (Bootstrap.java:165) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.initClassLoaders (Bootstrap.java:104) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.init(Bootstrap.java:193) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.init(Bootstrap.java:270) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke (NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke (DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:324) at org.apache.commons.daemon.support.DaemonLoader.load (DaemonLoader.java:201) Since you can fix the configuration problem in the server, adding jmx.jar explicitly to the CLASSPATH is a minor bug fix, although it might provide a big hint to people who are upgrading Tomcat 5.0.19 servers. Typically this error means someone may have moved jmx.jar to its previous resting place (i.e., $CATALINA_HOME/common/lib) because they thought that's where it was supposed to go, so you can just restore a correct copy of jmx.jar to bin to recover from this problem. This could be avoided by a documentation update instead of a code change. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
