This bug report has been transferred to Tomcat 5 because TC4 and TC5 share the
connectors and TC5 is now the focus of development effort

As the WAR shows, custom 401 error pages do work. Can someone upload a test
WAR with authentication setup in web.xml so that I can test it?

I'm having the same problem with JBoss 3.2.2 (with Tomcat 4.1.27).

Julien Dubois.

I' ve got the same problems with Tomcat 4.1.29.
The BASIC authentication is confgured in web.xml having only static
html-pages in my webapp. The webapp directly forwards to the location
of the 401 error-page without giving the chance to authenticate.

I'll "pile on" this bug and say that I'm having similar trouble with Tomcat
4.1.24. I'm not using a custom servlet, simply a custom for 401
errors and BASIC authentication defined via the web.xml file. With the custom
page defined, the login box is never shown and the app immediately displays my
custom error page.
