Tomcat for RedHat Enterprise Linux
Hi, We are using tomcat 4.1.2 version with our application running on RedHat Linux 7.3. We are migrating our application from RH 7.3 to RedHat Enterprise Linux. I could not find anything on Jakarta site which mentions the tomcat version support for RedHat Enterprise, hence posting the question here. Could anyone please let me know which tomcat version is supported with RH Enterprise Linux. Thanks in Advance, Sarika

RE: Behaviour of JSP with tomcat 4.1.24
Hi, Thanks for the clarifications. In server.xml, I put in the following configuration : Its given that "To clear sessions from the Store, set maxActiveSessions, maxIdleSwap, and minIdleBackup all to -1, saveOnRestart to false, then restart Catalina." With the above configuration also, am unable to get the desired behaviour ie, the index.jsp is not prompting for password. Is there any other configuration I need to do ? Please help me on this. Behaviour of JSP with tomcat 4.1.24
Hi All, When we start tomcat and connect to the server, the index.jsp page is displayed . When I key in a password, it validates the password and goes to the next jsp page(login.jsp) I stop tomcat and restart it again. Now when I connect to the server, the index.jsp directly takes me to the login.jsp page without asking for password. This should not happen. Everytime the tomcat is stopped 'n started we should get the password validation. But when I stop tomcat and clear the contents of $CATALINA_HOME/work/StandAlone/, When tomcat is started, it displays the index.jsp which asks for password validation. This behaviour was not seen in tomcat 3.2.3. Please let me know if am missing something. Am attaching the code snippet of index.jsp and validateLogin.jsp which is called from index.jsp Thanks in Advance for the help, Sarika Here is code snippet of index.jsp : %@ include file="header.jsp" %> <%@ include file="validateLogin.jsp" %> <%@ page import="com.cisco.das.core.*" %> Home Host: <%= InetAddress.getLocalHost() %> Current time: <%= new Date() %> <% try { String s = DAS.status(); ByteArrayInputStream bs = new ByteArrayInputStream(s.getBytes()); Properties prop = new Properties(); prop.load(bs); out.println("Status: Running"); out.println("CNS name: " + prop.getProperty("name")); out.println("CNS group: " + prop.getProperty("group", "")); out.println("Start time: " + new Date(Long.parseLong(prop.getProperty("startTime")) )); out.println("Version: " + prop.getProperty("package.version")); out.println("Build date: " + prop.getProperty("package.date")); %> <% } catch (Exception e) { out.println(""); String configdir = System.getProperty("user.dir") + "/config"; File pidFile = new File(configdir, "pid"); if (pidFile.exists()) { out.println("Status: Initializing..."); %> <% } else { out.println("Status: Stopped"); %> <% } } %> <%@ include file="footer.jsp" %> Snippet of validateLogin.jsp : <% String value = (String)session.getValue("das.login"); if (value == null) { %> Login password: <% return; } %> - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Help with Tomcat 4.1.24
Hi All, We have migrated to tomcat 4.1.24 from tomcat 3.2.23. Thanks to the tomcat-user list, we were able to deploy the tomcat successfully :-) We have one issue however !!! The tomcat 4.1.24, requires that we place all the jars which is used by the jsp's under TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/WEB-INF/lib directory. In our deployment, we use lot of 3rd party software like AdventSNMP jar, tibco jar and our own application jar. These jars are already present under our "tools" directory. But with 4.1.24 migration, we have to place all these jars under WEB-INF/lib. This will destroy our directory structure in case we want to mv all of them. To avoid this, we created soft links for the required jars under /WEB-INF/lib. The problem is tomcat server is able to DEPLOY some of the jars, and is cribbing for some jars. For Example, for AdventNetSNMP jar, tomcat throws the following error : 2003-07-31 16:07:25 ContextConfig[] Exception processing JAR at resource path /WE B-INF/lib/AdventNetSnmp.jar javax.servlet.ServletException: Exception processing JAR at resource path /WEB-IN F/lib/AdventNetSnmp.jar at org.apache.catalina.startup.ContextConfig.tldScanJar(ContextConfig.jav a:930) at org.apache.catalina.startup.ContextConfig.tldScan(ContextConfig.java:8 68) at org.apache.catalina.startup.ContextConfig.start(ContextConfig.java:647 ) at org.apache.catalina.startup.ContextConfig.lifecycleEvent(ContextConfig .java:243) at org.apache.catalina.util.LifecycleSupport.fireLifecycleEvent(Lifecycle Support.java:166) Is it possible that some jars get deployed and some don't ? Please lend me your inputs and suggesstions. Thanks in Advance, Sarika - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Error when using Tomcat 4.1.24
Hi All, We are using tomcat 4.1.24 to connect to web. The application GUI comes up when we connect to web using http://:8080/index.jsp. The next window after this is the Login.jsp page. We use "Password.class" to check for password integrity to go thru the Login.jsp page. But I get the following error when I give password, and press enter : org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP An error occurred at line: 3 in the jsp file: /login.jsp Generated servlet error: [javac] Since fork is true, ignoring compiler setting. [javac] Compiling 1 source file [javac] Since fork is true, ignoring compiler setting. Help needed in configuring tomcat 4.1.24
Hi All, We need to start tomcat with a user-defined port. To enable the same , in server.xml, we give the following port="8080" minProcessors="5" maxProcessors="75" In our start script, we grep for "WEB_PORT" and replace the default port value with a user-defined port. With this modification, tomcat starts properly. But when I give shutdown.sh command to stop tomcat , I get the following parse exception : bash-2.03# ./shutdown.sh Using CATALINA_BASE: /export/spare/users/sinamdar/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.24 Using CATALINA_HOME: /export/spare/users/sinamdar/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.24 Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /export/spare/users/sinamdar/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.24/temp Using JAVA_HOME: /export/spare/CSCOPerfE/tools/jdk Jul 23, 2003 3:12:03 PM org.apache.commons.digester.Digester fatalError SEVERE: Parse Fatal Error at line 93 column 5: Element type "Connector" must be followed by either attribute specifications, ">" or "/>". org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Element type "Connector" must be followed by either attribute specifications, ">" or "/>". at org.apache.xerces.util.ErrorHandlerWrapper.createSAXParseException(Unkno wn Source) at org.apache.xerces.util.ErrorHandlerWrapper.fatalError(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLErrorReporter.reportError(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLErrorReporter.reportError(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLScanner.reportFatalError(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLDocumentFragmentScannerImpl.scanStartElement(U nknown Source) Is there anyway we can avoid this exception ?
