Tomcat startup issue with HPUX 11.00

[WHITE,JASON (Non-HP-Corvallis,ex1)]

When I run tomcat from the command line, it works fine.
When I setup tomcat to run from an rc file, I get the following console
message.

/opt/java1.3/bin/java[85]: getconf:  not found
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap

my rc log shows the STDOUT and it looks like it's executing properly, I see
it list it's CLASSPATH, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
