Hi , Find below the message on the console when tomcat shutdown is done . It's strange indeed ;) Tomcat doesn't do anything different when you specify load-on-startup for a servlet except construct and initialize an instance of it. The lifecycle is exactly the same, no special processing. If you send the JVM a SIGQUIT after trying to shut it down, i.e. when it's hung, what active threads are showing? Howdy, Make sure you interrupt and/or destroy your thread properly under all circumstances. The destroy method of a servlet is one good place to do this, so maybe there's a bug in the code you put there?
