Re: Need Hel plz

2002-05-31 Thread Phillip Morelock

Mac OS X has a weird filesystem. They're basically supporting the "old" mac
filesystem (well it's actually intermediately old, they have a _really_ old
one that is no longer supported). This filesystem, in a Unix environment,
is described as "case-respecting, case-insensitive." Causes problems for a
few programs, which apple have largely fixed/patched (or, as in the case of
httpd, they distribute a module which specifically fixes it).

If I get some time this weekend maybe I'll check out how exactly it's
"fixed" for Windows in TC -- and maybe I can apply this to the mac, submit a
patch, etc. Of course, there's the web.xml hack someone posted earlier, but
I really feel like Tomcat should be taking care of this.

cheers

Interesting.

On Mac OS X -- I'm still having the problem as of 4.0.3, but obviously not
on Linux.  Haven't tried Windows.

Just out of curiosity, how did you install it? Using the exe or the zip
file?

For me, Tomcat 4.0.3 returns 404 for:

<http://localhost:8080/examples/jsp/dates/date.Jsp>

What does it do in your case?

RE: Need Hel plz

2002-05-31 Thread Larry Isaacs

Current releases of Tomcat 4 and Tomcat 3 don't have
a problem with case sensitivity of ".jsp". Only ".jsp"
will serve the page. Other case incorrect versions will
return 404 not found errors.

I would highly recommend upgrading from 3.1.

Larry

RE: Need Hel plz

2002-05-30 Thread Mike Jackson

I'd do getRemoteAddr, other wise you'd have to convert the name to an ip
when users try to login (everytime). Both of them return Strings (I was
incorrect about the java.net.InetAddress, that's what happens when I talk
prior to looking), so unless you want to incurr the cpu and io required to
convert a String host name to an ip address you'd be better off using the
getRemoteAddr.

Also, it's getRemoteAddr not GetRemoteAddr, if you try the latter you'll get
compile errors.
