Re: Topband: W8S - on CW
I've had a hard time tracking them on 160m. However, I was fortunate yesterday, set my alarm for 5am, 1200z, and viola, they were there calling CQ on FT8. I had been on several times between 11:30z to 13:30z searching for them on FT8. I have worked KH8S prior on CW 160m. Re: Topband: W8S - on CW
MY TB antenna has been down for the summer. Using the KAT500 tuner and manually finding an approximate match using the utility program I was able to put a couple of hundred watts into the 80 M vertical and work W8S on (yuck) FT8 on 10/13. I got the TB antenna back on the air, but then they never showed again when I was on. I did manage to work them on 23 other slots. I was anxious to get going as I needed to get ready for church but decided to stick around for a few more minutes. They began quickly coming in strength and were soon copyable with QSB but well enough to call. I got them in the log with no difficulty at 1203z. They were clearly hearing pretty well and by 1215z they were peaking S6/S7 and were really puttin' 'em in the log. . .NA, VK, and JA. My SR was 1225z but I couldn't stick around that long, so I don't know whether or not they continued to get louder. It was nice seeing them with good sigs and successfully running the pile on CW. Hopefully maybe theh'll get on a little earlier in time to catch some of the east coast guys. 73. . . Re: Topband: No joy in Mudville Florida
Here in Iowa, I got on TB last evening around 0015z and found OK1CF, EU's beacon, CQing with a very good S5 signal (he's normally just above the noise) and quickly completed a Q. I then saw 5B4AMX spotted and found him CQing without many callers. He was weak, about 339/449 but I completed a Q. He then began quickly building. . .within 10 or 15 minutes he was peaking an honest S7, doing a good job running the pile and puttin' 'em in the log. I QSYd to TV and returned about 0330z and put nine more EUs in the log including an all time new callsign, DL5OCE. . . so there is some prop and life in the band on CW. 73. . .
