Greg,

me too live in a VSUL (very small unlucky lot) but I never give up.  I
founded a little radio club with some friends: I4AVG, IK4GME and I4EAT
(now SK) 25 Km north of my city.  It means I have traveled a lot during
the winter to reach an old country home full of antennas but also full
of cobwebs and mices. I have to calculate time, propagation, and also
check wheather because fog, snow or ice are a little dangerous, it would
be very foolish to destroy my car to make a new one... and I'm not
interested in a glorious end as a Homeric hero. Can I give you an
advice? Look for some friends interested in low bands, maybe the
solution is simpler than it seems, and maybe there is less fog in your
country.

I have used several inductor calculators, they

With 33 uH the reactance on 80 meters is near 750 Ohm, it is enough,
more than 10 times the antenna impedance.

Good luck in the pile-up!

Topband: I4EAT Fausto SK

2021-03-31 Thread Paolo Zaffi

Guys,

with great sadness I must inform you that Fausto I4EAT passed away today
due to COVID.  He was a good friend and great DX'er not only on low
bands but also on VHF.

We will miss him.

Regards.

I am wondering whether anybody has compared beverages on 80m with RX
vertical arrays or transmit 4 sq. On 80m, my Beverages are a bit
better than 4 sq for DX.

It depends on the situation. The 4SQ has a wider radiation lobe than the
Beverage, and for stations that are not in the precise direction of the
Beverage (say a difference of 30 degrees or so) the 4SQ obviously works
better.  Of course the Beverage has a big advantage in terms of noise.
This is what I heard, with a pair of bi-directional Bevs 230 meters long
on a very flat, clayey and humid soil, which favors the 4SQ. It would
certainly change everything on sand or rock.

Maybe KD4POJ?  By the way hope W0ZTL is still alive, worked him in 2012

But at the same time, there are examples of very strange conditions with

My problem is: miracles are unique events.  If someone repeats miracles
for every DX expedition, can I suspect there is some cheating?  Near my
city there is a DX'er who was able to work a rare Pacific island on top
band.  He was the only italian in the log.  Last march I was listening
at my sunrise, there was poor activity on CW so I started reading on
FT8.  An XE station was working him, but I have only read the XE
station, it looked strange to me because the DX'er is only few Km away,
so his trace usually takes a wide portion of my screen, but that time
the screen was empty on his slot.

I have another question: ARRL accepts all QSLs without a real check.
The checker can write a report if he suspects wrong timing or
counterfacts cards, but I suspect that report is thrown in the trash
when received at Newington.  Could I put on a yellow tarpaulin and
braids, then sit in front of the ARRL desk in Dayton with a sign "strike
for remote TX"?  Er... maybe I am too old and ugly for that... :-)

Tree thanks for your patience. I will stop questioning about that...
well... for a few days :-)

I believe that no one pays attention to the timetable, and nobody pays
