The 4SQ has a wider radiation lobe than the Beverage, and for stations that are not in the precise direction of the Beverage (say a difference of 30 degrees or so) the 4SQ obviously works better. Of course the Beverage has a big advantage in terms of noise. This is what I heard, with a pair of bi-directional Bevs 230 meters long on a very flat, clayey and humid soil, which favors the 4SQ.
