Dan, AC6LA http://ac6la.com _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband I looked at that page. That configuration is even larger than what I decided on. More acreage to get a little more gain at the expense of increased sidelobes. That was what made me look at a smaller circle (although I have space for the larger circle). I also looked at the Hi-Z array. It is much smaller, but has good gain and low sidelobes. The disadvantage is that it is relatively narrow band and very critical. Also, you have to feed all 8 antennas at once with 3 different phases. I suspect it would be difficult to make a transmit version. The BSEF array I am using is very broadband and not critical, and you only feed 4 antennas at a time. Easy to feed as a transmit array as well. If you have the space for it, it makes a lot of sense. The 290 foot circle I am using may have already been written up somewhere before. It seems "obvious" to me: an octagon 1/2 wavelength across the flats. I didn't read all the references. One is DXAtlas, a very nice program from the guy who wrote Skimmer. It's not free, but there's a 30 day grace period when you can use it without paying. 73, Jim K9YC _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

There is absolutely no reason why you can't also use the same spacing and phasing (as my receive array) for your transmit array. Let me clarify, Im looking for 160M and 80M TRANSMIT 8 circle array not RX array. Thanks, Ray Higgins W2RE.com _ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband

Can someone point me in the right direction. Ray Higgins W2RE.com I am currently building a receive system as follows: Freq.: 1.83 MHz Diameter: 290 ft Phasing: 115 degrees RDF: 12 dB If we number the verticals 1 through 8 going around the circle, amplitude is as follows: 1, 2, 5, 6: zero 3, 4, 7, 8: one Phasing: 3, 8: zero 4, 7: 115 degrees The distance from 3 to 8 is chosen to be exactly 1/2 wavelength. The distance from 3 to 4 comes out to about 0.2 wavelength, a useful spacing. Models well on EZNEC. Good gain, very low sidelobes.
