Re: Topband: CQ ssb contest
RR Well, conditions are not the best, was just wondering when only 1 USA heard all weekend. Worked a Canada station on CQ the other night, so 2 NA in log . Over 99% EU in log. Apologize for sending the first message, could be very bent signals, since was copied on 180 deg bev to EU. /Per Från: Topband för Ron Spencer via Topband Skickat: den 27 februari 2021 19:18 Till: Topband Ämne: Topband: CQ ssb contest Couple thoughts. I agree with Tree. General questions or observations during a contest would seem, to me, to be OK. Specific regarding call signs, not so much. I got on a bit last night. Pretty crowded here. Did hear some DX and later, around EU sunrise, did work some DX but not much. I don't think the band was in great shape as working west coast was also difficult and scarce. Perhaps tonight will be better? Hope so. I had I thought about retuning my TX vertical somewhat higher temporarily just for this contest, but I was thinking that many stations would not have the capability to go above 1.9 MHz, so CQ'ing up there would have limited success. Without changing from my "normal" CW setting, I can get away with going up to almost 1.9 MHz before the Alpha 9500 complains too much. What is really needed is a remote switched tuning network that would divide the band into eight 25 kHz segments. Then I could S the high frequency stations on a demand basis. It is on my "someday" list of things to build. I already have built one for 80/75 meters with 8 segments, so the design is in my head. My general comments about the contest. Back about 15 years ago - it seemed like there was plenty of activity above 1900. AA1K spent most of the contest in 1999 kHz. Maybe it was conditions - but it seemed to be a lot less going on this year above 1.9 MHz. I had what I thought was a pretty good frequency, but struggled to get any kind of rate and turned off the radio after 21 QSOs. Seemed like the other west coast stations were down the band fighting it out with the East Coast QRM. I'll be back on later tonight and try again. I re-tuned my antenna for the "156 meter band".
