Re: Topband: RG6 connectors and installation

Don't re-invent the wheel. There are cable installers all over the
place--these are people who are given the tools and connectors by
Comcast and other big companies to make high reliability
installations. When you see a cable truck out on location stop and
ask the guy what he uses. If you explain why you are interested, you
will probably get all the information you need to order the F males
and tools yourself, but also find out what they use for cable. It's
usually Belden "drop cable" high quality outdoor RG6. My experience
has been these materials and tools are superior to what the ham radio
vendors sell.

I see the big box store sell a double O Ring Connector . Do these look

I have the 1/4 1/4 coax stripper and a good Klein crimper and have
watched YouTube showing how to fit the connector to the Coax . Look to
me like their simply pushing them to the right depth and crimping. Is
the more to it then that ?

After stripping with the 1/4 1/4 stripper , Should I remove the sticky
Gel from the braid of the  flooded RG6 before applying the connector ?
If so what do you use to remove the Gel ?  I didn't do this last time
, my be my problem ?

All RG6 is under ground in 3/4" PVC with weather heads , the coax
could be replaced if needed. I tested for open or shorts all tested
good with VOM

Thanks Ed N5DG
