Yes, it's required for exits in test networks to function.
But it's only a warning, so as long as we don't remove it, it's fine.

Comment:

A user joined IRC pointing to this bug and a similar one they were
 experiencing on an unrelated service.

Both Lycos and the other service send their login page over http
 (rgh).

The user reported that disabling NoScript resolved the issue, with the
users help I was able to reproduce the issue and confirm NoScript was the
source. I noticed that when NoScript was enabled cookies that had been
issued over https would not be send over http, resulting in it constantly
forcing the user back to the login page, securely, where upon the cookies
were sent...putting them back to square one.

The issue stems from the sites issuance of cookies "securely" then
returning to http and NoScript's policy for "Secure Cookies Management".

 **Work Around**

By going into NoScript -> Options -> Advanced -> HTTPS -> Cookies and
setting appropriate exceptions under "Ignore unsafe cookies set over HTTPS
by the following sites", they were able to successfully login to the
 services.

I'd recommend not using these services, however, since they have some
 clearly problematic security holes.

I hope that I have understood correctly that metrics-lib and DescripTor

For now the texts are basically copy & pasted readme files from the

Comment (by amj703):

 Hi Damian,

This is happy stem user Aaron Johnson from NRL. I noticed a similar skip
event while parsing a descriptor archive from CollecTor. When using stem
1.5.4 to parse the latest descriptor archive from this month yesterday, I
got the following skip event notification: "ERROR [server-
descriptors-2017-02.tar.xz]: Line contains invalid characters: ntor-oni
@uploaded-at 2017-02-02 02:45:52". This looks like it may well be the same
issue. Just thought I'd let you know that I saw it as well and recently!

Oh, I'm only playing and intended to remove the differences once the new
 version is on master.
(BTW the third mirror doesn't feature the web pages at all.) I think once
there is an embedded simple web-server, the mirrors will be easily
identified as such, but otherwise all look the same.

 > I was just kidding with the dates being great, because they were my
idea. Sorry, I just didn't know how to include an emoticon in the
strikethrough without chopping the head in two... ;) And I have to be
honest, it was not entirely my idea. Here's a related website which
inspired me: http://www.caida.org/data/overview/. Should we give this
 another try?

hmm, the caida site features 'vintage web-design'. I don't even see how
 it inspired your idea?

The table could just contain the years of availability and the textual
descriptions can be edited to tell more about the availability. That way
all information is there on the page.

 no script :-)

I have an [https://collector.sky-ip.org/ "absent" button] now ;-)
But, no further discussion necessary, just leave it empty on the main
 version.

Yes, the dates were you're idea, full credit! I simplified it to just
years to clarify the missing button. But it's hard to add all information
 without cluttering the table.

 Replying to [comment:31 iwakeh]:
 > I don't feel strong about it, but just one last attempt of an idea :-)
 > Maybe, grey recent button without the `>`?

I'm not sure if that wouldn't lead to confusion where users would expect
that recent data is usually available, just not now. Or maybe on other
mirrors, not this one. Leaving the space blank when the other lines have
a button in that place should be obvious.

 > And, my other suggestion is adding the dates to those descriptor names
that only have archives, like: `Version 2 Network Statuses, 2005 to 2012`

I like this idea, because ~~it's mine~~ it adds new information that could
be useful for users. Though I would prefer to add this information to all
descriptor types, because it's still useful to know for which time we're
 serving version 1, 2, or 3 directories/statuses. I just don't know where
to add this information in a way that doesn't clutter the interface too
much. Happy to add this information if somebody suggests where to add it.

Note that this doesn't fully solve the issue of missing buttons. The
reason why there are no recent directory key certificates is that they are
published very rarely and there size is tiny, so there's no real point in
providing just the certificates for the past 3 or even 30 days.
Similarly, we might consider providing just the latest auxiliary data that
we have, like reverse DNS lookup data, without providing an archive.

I fixed the title, and I made "required" black. I'd rather not make the
new entries green, because that is our link color. For the grey jumbotron

and MetricsLib (that you all haven't seen yet) :)

Just notice that the title says "CollecTor" not Onionoo.

Comment:

 I like it, too!

 Just some minor things:
 * It's odd that the button "tell me more" simply scrolls down a bit. We
could just do without the grey top-panel and add that text before the
"General" headline. That way the navigation would be visible immediately
 when accessing the site.
 * And, another color topic: already with the old page I thought it
counter-intuitive to have green for "required"; I think it could be simple
black as optional is grey. That would give a bigger color range for the
protocol colors, i.e., orange could be the new red and green the new blue?

But, these are just minor tweaks. All fine.

DDG onion should use Single Onion Service (SOS), will be very interesting
to see this, if Tor team say it to they, they will use SOS because they
are very comprehensive about tor users in opposition of StartPage...

Actually, good question! Made it black, warnings are gone!

 Okay, down to one:

  - We should either find a prettier solution than writing "n/a", or we
should decide that leaving the spot blank is the best we can do.

iwakeh, what do you think about that one? How much do you care about this
 issue? :)

 protocol.
 Changed the headline.

 Fixed.

 in the mobile view, too?
 Added a mobile navigation.

 Fixed.

 > - Maybe we'll need better colors than the currently used blue and red
for indicating new and deprecated protocol parts. Is it easy to find
colors that play well with the purple and green?
Made the red and blue less red and blue :)

Comment:

I think this patch looks good, because:
 * if clients don't have a (directory guard or fallback or authority) onion
key, they use TLS and CREATE_FAST
   * (the non-directory guard code makes sure we have an onion key before
 we connect)
 * if clients have an onion key, they default to using it, or the consensus
 parameter, or the torrc option

Although, I just realised that if clients don't have a consensus, they
won't believe any onion keys. So does this change have any effect at all?

In either case, let's merge it.

Comment (by karsten):

hiro, I'm having a difficult time reading your results. Can you put them
on GitHub Pages or export some images and attach them here? And can you
add explanations what your results show and why you consider them close
enough to Torperf data that we can switch over? That would be awesome!

Regarding the CollecTor integration, I started hacking on that yesterday
evening. No need for you to touch Java just for this. :)

We could replace this with a check if the remote end:
 * connected to us: `chan->conn->handshake_state->started_here`
 * has neither a RSA or ed25519 identity key:

`chan->conn->handshake_state->{authenticated_rsa_peer_id,authenticated_ed25519_peer_id}`
