Re: [tor-dev] New Fallback Directory File Format

2017-12-24 Thread Iain Learmonth
Hi,

As we are planning to also add a parser to metrics-lib (#24434), would
it be possible to get a full description of the format of the file
possibly in RFC5234 format so that we can check that the generator and
parsers all match up to that specification?

Thanks,
Iain.

Sweet, thanks Tim!

Hmmm. Can't say on Stem's side I have an opinion on this. It doesn't
rely on fallback directories for anything so extrainfo caches aren't a
concern.

> * do you want the delimiter before the first fallback entry as well?

Stem doesn't care about a delimiter before the first entry but that
seems like a good idea so we have a clear separation between comments
and the start of the machine readable section.

A detail Stem does care about is that the last entry ends with a
delimiter. If it doesn't that's fine, but code is a tad simpler if we
ensure it does. :)

Hi nusenu. My point is that I'm providing it because it's convenient
for me since I already run an r2e instance for my personal news feeds.
I'd rather not maintain two r2e cron jobs.

If someone else would care to run it on a tor VM that's fine with me.
Another option would be for tor to provide a VM where I host this
*and* my personal feeds. I'm fine with that, though does feel a bit
funky. :)

Yes, this isn't just you. We think the issue is that Internet search
engines, etc are crawling it, and some of the questions you can ask to
trac take a lot of computation to answer. So it is constantly being bombed
with complex questions, leading it to be bad at answering every request.

Surely there is some sort of trac plugin to defend against pieces of
this issue, but we haven't yet found one that works well.

[tor-dev] trac.tpo issues

2017-12-24 Thread nusenu
Hi,
in the last few days trac says occasionally "Service Unavailable" and right now
trac times out.

Since we are currently (attempting to) work on a wiki page, this is somewhat
blocking our edits.

Has trac some known issue?

I'm looking forward to a reachable and stable trac :)

thanks,
nusenu

Could the torproject provide you with a VM to run that service?
