Increase key process priorities (All this is no rocket science btw. - I do claim I'm the first who put all those tweaks together as package into the context of improving efficiency of the SBT) The measures I've applied, I obviously put into a slightly different context, which belongs to a different area of this forum. Triode would of course never admit that he also appreciates associated side-effects. He intends to survive a bit longer over here, so better don't touch that hot potato. I'm pretty sure EDO users are appreciating those side-effects. Just to mention it. EDO might even work without above listed measures, since the main issues seem to be driver and jive related. I'll stop here... However. What's common about the measures is that they intented to increase the efficiency of a computer system. They'd work on any Linux/Android system. Triode had serious problems to get rid of XRUNS in the early days. Even all my system optimizations wouldn't stop certain DACs to run into XRUNS. This led him into tweaking the Linux audio drivers. Just to mention it: USB audio has always been working on the Touch. Triode put an amazing effort into the subject and has shown a great level of skills to make it all available by putting it into the LMS/Squeezeplay environment. Great job. I do limit my appreciation to the Squeezeplay/LMS/driver part of the story... soundcheck's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34383 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94512 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Turnandcough wrote: Thank you for the straightforward answer. A flac stream carries sample rate information which knows about 192. The method of streaming PCM didn't know about 176 and 192, this was added to 7.8. Note that you have to have both the 7.8 server and the 7.8 firmware in the Touch (both sides have to know about 192). Some people have upgraded to the 7.8 server and the Touch firmware did not automatically update, this is going to give you really weird results! If your are either streaming flac, or are streaming PCM and have 7.8 both for the server AND firmware in the Touch and you still have this issue of only playing the firsttrack, then there is something strange going on. 192 PCM is sending a LOT of bits down the network, if you are running Wifi or have some issues in your network that could cause a problem. Alternatively if the server is running on a slow computer you could also have a problem with this. Near the end of a song the server starts sending the next song while the player is still playing the last few seconds of the first song. It's also sending stuff like the cover artand song info. With a system that is just barely keeping up with sending 192 the extra stuff sent at the end of the first song could cause a problem. Let's not forget the obvious, do you have random play turned off? This has tripped up many a person (including me!) John S. Mnyb wrote: it is said so , however when i transcode i can play whole albums , so what is Turnandcough using for a server ? is this only happening with 192kHz files . If one forces all flac to transcode to PCM normal 16/44.1 files gets transcoded as well as any other sample rate 48k/88.2k/96k . So Turnandcough could have some other issue unrelated to EDO , note I'm not using EDO my few 192k files transcode to 96k so it migth be an issue with some rates and forcing to PCM . Other folks in this tread transcodes 192k to PCM without problem or do they ? (HD tracks 96k version vs their 192k version could be fodder for another audiophile tread btw , normally it is not humanly possible to hear the diff between 96k and 192k if all things are equal ? but are they ? given HD-tracks history it would not surprise me if all their versions actually sounded different but for completely other reason than the bitrate. I usually opt for the 96k version myself . But if anyone has made the effort to get all 3 version of HD-track release CD quality 96k and 192k are they really cut from the same master ,no extra loudness war compression on the CD version ? any other obvious differences like different volume levels. Please open a tread in the audiophile forum about that if you have such info ) I too was under the impression that EDO was capable of streaming 24/192 FLAC. My server is nothing fancy just, a basic PC running XP SP3 connected via ethernet. I have no problems streaming 16/44 or 24/96 FLAC files. Actually I don't really have any interest in 24/192 over 24/96 or even well recorded redbook per se but It's nice to know that my system can handle them. I have stumbled on a few albums that were available in 16/44 or 24/192 but not 24/96. I did initially have a problem getting the Touch to upgrade to 7.8 but it eventually caught to LMS a few days ago. I also had a problem when scrolling through the Touch menu. I could feel it progressively slowing down until it would freeze up completely. I would then have to pull the power and wait for it to resume. This has always happened while running EDO + TT3.0 and a few other suggested tweaks. I can't remember if I actually tried EDO by itself as I read that sounded a bit thin. My network should be OK as I'm able to stream 1080p without issues. PC is a quad core Q9550 with 4gb RAM and plenty of free hard drive space. I definitely wasn't in random mode either. What is really strange is that when I played the album from the beginning it would always jump to track 2 and the cursor would not budge when clicking on any other track. I think I'm going to flush TT3.0 AGAIN and give EDO by itself a try. I have stumbled on a few albums that were available in 16/44 or 24/192 but not 24/96. I have two SB Touch. One is in it's default state with EDO, the other has TT3.0+EDO. Both run fw 7.8 (r16736). I use triode's Screen Off screensaver on both. I've got LMS v7.8 running on two Linux boxes, one is Vortexbox on a 1.7gHz laptop, the other a ReadyNas Ultra 2 Plus. My network is switched 100MB, no wireless and I use S/PDIF coax out on both SBs. I can stream albums as FLAC or PCM to my Squeezeboxes with no dropouts or rebuffering, with any resolution up to 24/192. I can even do this with the BrutefirDRC plugin enabled on LMS. This taxes the resources on the Linux boxes, no doubt, but no rebuffering or dropouts while a track is playing. I see occational rebuffering on track transitions with 192kHz though. Maybe Turnandcough's problem is related to LMS on Windows vs LMS on Linux? soundcheck:: we're waiting for a new version of your TT that integrates smoothly with triode's EDO. Is sure enough muscle to transcode , but if streaming 192k as FLAC works with EDO why not use that . Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] can't see playlists in squeezebox touch
i am also experiencing difficulties seeing playlists on my SBT. I have all my music on a QNAP NAS which stays on 24/7. I have done test playlists on itunes on my laptop, and exported the xml and M3U playlists to the playlist folder in multimedia on the NAS, but these do not show up on the SBT. How do I create playlists using LMS on NAS rather than computer? dood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56698 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95889 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] BBC live does not work through DAC
I can access internet radio on my SBT as expected. When I go to BBC iplayer, it plays the recorded programs on the various channels but does not play the live broadcast. After assessing variables I discovered that this only happens when the SBT is connected to my external DAC (an old Wadia12). When I connect the SBT to my amp via analogue outputs, the BBC live plays fine. Has anyone else encountered this issue? I suspect it is because my DAC is several years old, but it would be interesting to see if it happens on newer DACs, and what the explanation is for this behaviour. dood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56698 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95994 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

What sampling frequencies does it accept ? the wadia 12 . Radio is very often 48kHz but in some cases also 32kHz . it can also be a word length problem for the old DAC keep the squeezebox volume at 100% and try again Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95994 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I'll check when I get home whether it automatically detects the frequency or if I have to manually select 48kHz. I've only used it with CDs at 44.1kHz. Will also try the volume setting. dood's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56698 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=95994 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
