Since it's not in any way related to Squeezebox hardware or software,
it's anyone's guess. There's no menu option on a Touch that would delete
your files.

That's a completely different situation from what you've written before
in this thread, if we can't get a consistent description of what the
problem is, it will be pretty much impossible finding a solution.
However, I'd go so far as claiming that clicking the "Mysqueezebox"
button did not actually wipe your hard drive, it would have made your
music inaccessible from your Touch until you reconnected to LMS, but
still there on the hard drive.
I suspect that the menu option to switch to Mysqueezebox is actually
there, it's just that on a Touch it's hidden in a rather unintuitive
place. Either way, since you say that you're able to play some music
from your library, any problems you have with accessing your files are
completely unrelated to mysqueezebox, at this stage I suggest it's
irrelevant.

I don't see why you are so concerned with the "New music" view. Can you

If not, have you confirmed that LMS is running, that it is pointing to

Albums can not be stored on mysqueezebox, so that's not where they've

Are you running the LMS built into the touch or is it running on some

What happened was that Spotify finally made good on the promise they
made years ago to shut down the interface used by Logitech and numerous
other companies. So perhaps we can be angry with Spotify for not keeping
an abandoned API running indefinitely.
But you did not pay anyone to make it work with your SBT. Spotify made
this API and library available at no cost, Logitech made the app
available at no cost and provided hosting for it on mysqueezebox.com at
no cost to you.
And either way, Logitech isn't going to keep mysqueezebox running
forever, considering that the Squeezebox line was dropped long ago (in
consumer electronics terms) so it would never be a long term solution
even if Spotify hadn't shut it down.
Be thankful that there is a way to keep Spotify working for you.

IR sensors can fail but they are generally very reliable so it's worth
ruling out other possibilities before giving up on them.
If you haven't already I would test it in a dark room, there are some

Yank the stand from the Duet and it'll be roughly the same size as the

that shouldn't be the deciding factor unless you happen to only have an

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] No such thing as a stupid question

2012-05-23 Thread alfista

I can appreciate that it's difficult pick out any valid information
given the amount of talk around here about more or less irrelevant
modifications.

If you get rebuffering when running the server on your computer then
it's 99% certain that your network is to blame. First approach is divide
and conquer, connect it via ethernet and see if it works better. If it's
OK then basic wireless troubleshooting tips apply (check for interfering
products, try to find a less congested channel etc).
No need to re-encode anything.

You don't need to install anything extra if you wan't to attach your USB
directly to the Touch, there are however mixed experiences with this
setup and it might take a bit of tinkering to get up and running. See
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?82070-Touch-with-USB-drive-mastering-TinySBhighlight=Tiny+SC
for some hints on stuff that might affect your success rate.

 Cheers
 Dr.Funk
Well, I never said anything about it being a server problem, did I?
Neither did I claim it was a wireless problem.

Thing is you definitely do want to have a server, otherwise it just will
not run. It's just that you want to use your Touch as both server and a
player, which it is designed to do and the server software is already
installed. Sadly this comes with some limitations and somewhat of a
lottery as to how well it will work with your files and your drive etc.
The other (and generally more reliable if not always desirable) option
is to have the server software (LMS) running on some other hardware in
your network, could be a desktop, laptop, dedicated server hardware such
as a NAS.

As for stupid questions, there are at least better and worse ways to ask
for support. Try breaking it down in separate well defines problems
instead of slapping in a big post with a large number of questions,
speculations and statements. You obviously the server software (LMS)
installed on some computer as you have been able to play FLAC files,
this was however hampered by what is most likely a network problem,
treat that as one problem. You also have problem getting the internal
server in the Touch to work with your hard drive, treat that as a
different problem. It's often easier to only deal with one problem per
forum thread.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Hmnnn..any reason why my box might have been resealed at the factory??

2010-05-03 Thread alfista

According to the legend, they were stacked up in warehouses for a long
time before shipping, perhaps that made it necessary to modify the
contents of the boxes. Printed material that had become outdated maybe?
Or maybe the content differs between markets (e g power adapters) and
that box was initially intended for another market. Or maybe... Oh
well, there are numerous possibilities.

As reported earlier in this thread, it is (or at least was) planned.

I think you misunderstand. There is only one wireless hop - from the
 router to the SB3.
Yes, that I understand, but from a streaming perspective there are two
wireless hops as far as I can see. First data from the server to the
router (via the SB) and then from the router back to the SB. Exactly
the same as if you had used the wireless on the computer.

Nothing wrong about that, just that it's not as wired as you seem to
think. And nothing wrong with having your server next to your stereo
and TV, just that I think it's more common for people to consider it a
convenience not having to have the server in the listening/viewing
room.

Erm no. His server is plugged into his SB3, so from a Squeezebox point
of view he actually has zero wireless hops.
Well, perhaps the networking of the SB3 is more competent than I give
it credit for. My assumption was that both SB3 and server would have
the wireless router as default gateway in a setup like this and thus
the traffic would pass through the router. Sadly, it's been quite a
while since I worked with networks so the details about stuff like this
are no longer in the cache...

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch as remote controller - interesting logitech video

2010-02-08 Thread alfista

Then again, anyone up to speed o the Touch knows that there would have
to be a cable and knows what to look for. True, it's visible in the
second part of that sequence, but in the first part the advertising
blurb is placed so that the cable is (almost) hidden.

Oh well, visible or not. I agree that the ad is questionable since it
shows the Touch used in a way that gives a skewed picture of what a
Touch is. Of all possible use cases for a Touch I think having it in
your lap as a remote controller will be among the least common. This
might IMHO lead to misunderstandings that are anything but beneficial
for Logitech.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Where to position it?

You can control it with a remote (no controller required) from the
couch. And if you happen to be up near it, you can make use of the
 touchscreen.
Exactly. I don't see the problem here. It's a player with a display
which happens to double as a local (as opposed to remote) control.
Convenient when you're up close without detracting from the usability
when you're not.
I'm just guessing here, but I expect that today a touch screen could
often be a cheaper alternative than controls of a more mechanical
fashion.
Continuing to guess since I haven't used a Touch; local control might
not seem all that necessary, but given that there is no web interface to
the server, having some other way than the remote to configure and
maintain the server makes good sense.
So, even if some users might not use the touchscreen on a daily basis
it probably doesn't add much or anything to the price, doesn't get in
the way when it's not used and let's face it, most of our gadgets have
functions we rarely or never use.

I have spent 50 years working in the manufacturing industry,in fairly
high level positions, picking up ideas on how they function on the way.
Basically, the management board devise the strategy, make someone

physical and personnel) to facilitate this.
The normal way this functions is that Developers get on with
developing, not with stopping developing to respond to forum questions
 - no wonder everything is running later and later. The person
responsible for executing the strategy creates a team with the aim of
everything coming together at an agreed date. The Sales and Marketing
guys then do their bit with the aim of getting the market poised to
respond on the agreed date (possibly plus a contingency period).
A thorough description of a development procedure under which there
never would have been a Slim Device to begin with.

Maybe you're right, unlike you I don't have that kind of first hand

Well, if you (like I) don't know what their objective is and don't know

it seems like the actual fault may have been to make it available for
