apt needs to turn on HTTPS for all repos by default. I have no problem

single menu-entry with all the menus and submenus in it:

  ‣ Nautilus
  ‣ Evince
  ‣ Empathy
  ‣ Rhythmbox
  ‣ gnome-system-monitor

this is a big usability and consistency flaw!

all apps should have a global-menu with all the main menu-entries to
show on the first view in the panel!

this inconsistency confuses the most users i support on Ubuntu!

Title:
  Left mouse button stops working

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This problem has plagued me for a few years across different laptops
and Ubuntu versions. Current I am experiencing this on a Dell Inspiron
  15z running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

It typically starts after I have used the chat or call feature in
gmail, by clicking on the phone icon in the left chat margin. I am a
Firefox user and have not tested this with chrome etc. It has not
happened if i dont install google-talkplugin so it is quite possible
that the plugin is to blame.

  Symptom
  ===
The left mouse button on all attached mice - USB , Trackpad and touch - will
not do anything however the right mouse button continues to work. This
happens to all applications and also to the desktop. The keyboard continues to
function as normal.

When this occurs , my solution is to Alt-F4 close all windows and log
out of the X session. When I re-login the left mouse button works as
  normal.

This is an irritant and work disruptor as I have to save all browser and
desktop applications to safe state before I logout to reset the mouse. I will
appreciate any soltion or workaround.

Laptop Monitor Brightness reduced to minimum and disabled after
  disconnection from external monitor.

Status in The Linux Kernel:
  New
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

I have the following problem under Ubuntu 14.04. As soon as I
disconnect my external monitor from my Laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon), the
brigthness is reduced to minimum (backlight switches off) and I can
not increase it again. When I use the brightness control keys the
brightness bar shows that it is set to maximum even though it clearly
is not. Using the control keys still changes the brightness bar but
does nothing to the brightness itself.

Upon a restart of the laptop the brightness returns to its maximum and
  is controllable again.

I encountered this problem under the Unity version shipped with Ubuntu
14.04, but it might happen with other desktop managers as well.

This problem did not exist when my Laptop was running under Ubuntu
  13.10.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1363620] [NEW] Sync popt 1.16-10 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-08-31 Thread Artur Rona
Public bug reported:

Please sync popt 1.16-10 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Update libtool.m4.
  * Update libtool.m4.

Debian uses dh-autoreconf directly.

Changelog entries since current utopic version 1.16-8ubuntu1:

popt (1.16-10) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/rules: move dependency on target autoreconf-stamp from
configure (which isn't called) to configure-deb-stamp and
configure-udeb-stamp.
  * Patches: 757935-autoreconf.patch: add change to Makefile.am of
testit.sh path.
  * That'll teach me to try to be too clever! (Closes: #757935)

 -- Paul Martin p...@debian.org Mon, 25 Aug 2014 16:15:25 +0100

popt (1.16-9) unstable; urgency=low

  * Patches:
+ 728596-secure-getenv.patch: update to change #elseif (not recognised
  by gcc) to #elif.
+ 757935-autoreconf.patch: remove AM_C_PROTOTYPES from configure.ac
  * Add dependency on dh-autoreconf, and use that in debian/rules instead
of directly using the rules from autotools-dev. (Closes: #757935)
  * Update to standards version 3.9.5 (no changes)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1363623] [NEW] [ASUS-A7K laptop] screen brightness dimmed after kernel update

2014-08-31 Thread Catalin
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Following the update from kernel version 3.13.0-34 to 3.13.0-35-generic the
screen brightness got a lot dimmer.
The Fn+F5/F6 control keys still work, in that the display gets dimmer and
brighter, but the maximum brightness is too low.
When starting ubuntu using the previous kernel release the display brightness
is alright.
I've looked around the web for ways to change the display brightness and I
checked that both files /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness and
/sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0/brightness have the maximum values, 15 and
255 respectively.

The release I am running is : Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
The XORG package version is : 1:7.7+1ubuntu8

Please feel free to contact me for any further information.

I can't select audio output in sound options. I have looked for some

there it is said to try next commands:
  aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
  aplay -D plughw:0,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
  aplay -D plughw:0,8 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav

If i run them one by one, nothing happens. But, if I run the 3 of them
at the same time(copying and pastening into de terminal the 3 lines) i
get sound for a second. In my view it seems to be chanel 7 the one,
but if I run the command only for that channel nothing happens.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1176046] Re: isc-dhcp dhclient listens on extra random ports

2014-08-31 Thread Michael Bazzinotti
I am experiencing a similar or same issue on Ubuntu 14.04 Server 64-bit.

The Dhclient is listening on both ports 68 and 42370. I have no
experience with dhclient so I cannot decide if this is normal behaviour.
Why the extra port?

Title:
isc-dhcp dhclient listens on extra random ports

Status in “isc-dhcp” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Ubuntu 13.04 Server 64-bit. Fresh install. Only one network adapter.

dhclient process is listening on two randomly chosen udp ports in
addition to the usual port 68. This appears to be a bug in the
discovery code for probing information on interfaces in the system.

Initial research of the code also suggested omapi, but adding omapi
port to /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf only opened a forth port with the
two random udp ports still enabled.

Version of included distro dhclient was 4.2.4. I also tested with the
latest isc-dhclient-4.2.5-P1 and got the same results.

  Debian has the same bug:
  http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10t=95273p=495605#p495605

One impact of these random ports is that security hardening becomes
more difficult. The purpose of these random ports and security
  implications are unknown.

  Example netstat -lnp output:

  udp0 0 0.0.0.0:21117 0.0.0.0:*
  2659/dhclient
  udp0 0 0.0.0.0:68 0.0.0.0:*
  2659/dhclient
  udp6   0  0 :::45664:::*

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1179913] Re: Zero check failed in ifo_read.c:904 for pgc-subp_control[i] = 0x00000001

2014-08-31 Thread Jani Uusitalo
I acknowledge that (and as I said, it hasn't really caused any issues
with the backups), I was just responding to this being fixed (above).
If it's not really an issue in the code, maybe we should close this as
invalid? (Although I could argue that the message makes it seem as if
there is a problem with the code when in fact there isn't, so the bug
could be this warning is slightly misleading. But that's up for
interpretation.)

This doesn't prevent dvdbackup from finishing up, and the resulting
copy looks to be fine (on cursory inspection). While dvdbackup is
running, the issue also doesn't cause an OOM as in Bug #377414. Still,
  I tested libdvdread4_4.2.0+20130428-0ubuntu0~bryce~precise1_amd64.deb
from Bryce Harrington's PPA [1], but it just slightly changed the
  Zero check failed output:

This DVD is the only one I've come across manifesting this, and I've
backed up some 40 DVDs so far on this same setup.

Title:
[Studio1747, IDT 92HD73C1X5,playback] volume slider problem - Slide to
bottom and sound stays off even when slider moved up again

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The Audio Mixer panel widget slider (current version) has no mute
checkbox. The 12.04 version had a mute checkbox in addition to the
  slider.

When the slider is moved to the bottom, everything is muted: Master,
Headphone, Speaker, PCM. Move the slider up and only Master is
  unmuted.

My computer has three hardware buttons for audio. The mute/unmute
mutes but never unmutes. Same issue.

  Known problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/397819/ubuntu-13-10-and-
  xfce4-no-sound-at-all

With 2012.04 I could just uncheck the mute button and things were back
to normal. Now I need to open Audio Mixer and unmute everything.

(It also appears I need to unmute the Headphones to hear sounds from
  the internal speakers.)

As someone who works in an environment where I regularly need to mute
  this behavior is very annoying.

  1) The volume sliders should never mute.
  2) There should be a mute checkbox.
  3) The unmute options should unmute everything which was muted.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1357724] Re: Extremely low volume from HP, also skipping and distorted voice

2014-08-31 Thread TinBay
My mistake. After delete the line I added before I updated kernel, I got normal
volume from my rear and front HP-out.
I deleted this line below, I also tried options snd-hda-intel
model=auto,acer-aspire,auto all work for me.
options snd-hda-intel vid=8086 pid=8ca0 snoop=0

[Touch-packages] [Bug 360378] Re: Gave up waiting for root device after upgrade then busybox console

2014-08-31 Thread W3ird_N3rd
I just installed an old box with Asus CUSL2-C (i815) and Lubuntu 14.04
(trusty). Occasionally get the busybootblows, but not always. Just
randomly, 2 times out of 3 maybe.

Turning plug and play OS in BIOS on or off makes no difference
Adding noapic after quiet splash in /etc/default/grub makes no difference
Neither does noacpi
Neither does rootdelay=15

The device it can't mount is the partition that holds /.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1331555] Re: Trusty's libsepol1 causes issues with Precise's Upstart during dist-upgrade

2014-08-31 Thread Laurent Bigonville
I've just dropped the postinst script that reload the init during the
upgrade of libsepol.

It was also causing issues with systemd actually. And anyway nor upstart
nor systemd was using any of it's symbols directly (libsepol is
statically linked in libselinux)

So this should be fixed in 2.3-2

knows which PIDs running services have and thus all service reloads

Sometimes left clicking the nautilus launcher icon doesn't bring up a
minimized nautilus window. Instead of restoring the window a new
instance of nautilus is showing up.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a nautilus window by clicking on the launcher icon.
  2. Navigate to a symlinked directory whose target is located on a different
harddrive (for example: a symlink to a folder on a sd-card).
  3. Minimize the nautilus window.
  4. Try to bring up that window again by clicking the launcher icon.

  What happens:

  1. A new instance (window) of nautilus is opened.
  2. There's no obvious way to access the first window again. The only way is
ALT+TAB.

  What schould happen:

If a nautilus window is already open and minimized clicking the
launcher icon should bring up that window. This was the behavior of
nautilus windows in Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1363723] [NEW] QTextEdit jumps to keyboard cursor when losing focus

2014-08-31 Thread Doug Brown
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Version: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
libqt5gui5 version: 5.2.1+dfsg-1ubuntu14.2

I am running a stock install of Ubuntu 14.04.1, fully updated as of this
writing. If you are using the ibus input method (chosen by default in
Ubuntu), there is a problem that can cause QTextEdit to lose its scroll
position when it loses focus. I first noticed this inside of Qt Creator
but it actually affects all Qt 5 programs. Here are the steps to
reproduce it:

- Fill a QTextEdit (for example, a Qt Creator editor window) with enough text
so that there is a scrollbar.
- Make sure the text insertion cursor is at the bottom of the file.
- With your mouse wheel, scroll up so that the text insertion cursor is no
longer visible on-screen.
- Now click on the containing window's title bar, or choose an item from a
menu, or click on another widget in the window. Just something to cause focus
to change.

What I expect to happen:

Nothing should happen to the QTextEdit's scroll position. It should stay
where it is.

What actually happens:

The QTextEdit scrolls down so the text insertion cursor is visible, as
if I had typed a character.

This is actually a known bug in the ibus input method plugin
(libibusplatforminputcontextplugin.so), which is installed as part of Ubuntu's
libqt5gui5 package:
https://bugreports.qt-project.org/browse/QTBUG-40755

A fix was committed upstream to the qtbase 5.4 branch:
https://qt.gitorious.org/qt/qtbase/commit/e5f3a25253263b67f3f211d76ed76ddc2298916e

I don't know about what the release schedule looks like for trusty and
Qt, but I'd like to respectfully request that this patch somehow makes
its way into 14.04 for my own sanity while working inside of Qt Creator.
:-)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1335373] Re: ibus uses too much cpu while typing

2014-08-31 Thread Aron Xu
Can't reproduce in stock Ubuntu 14.04 amd64, closing as Invalid. I see
in the upstream report you are using Mint, if that's the case please try
to ask Mint developers to do some investigation.

** Changed in: ibus (Ubuntu)

Title:
ibus uses too much cpu while typing

Status in IBus:
  Unknown
Status in “ibus” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. type random stuff fast in a terminal
  2. ibus hogs 15% of a core - Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
  3. this is much more CPU than recordmydesktop needs to record it!

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect this thing to forward my ASCII keystrokes to my terminal
without eating 15% of a core.

I uploaded a youtube video to express my disgust with this program's
  ridiculously bad performance.
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPJs0pGOhxo

Maybe this ibus component is the second coming of Jesus for people who
speak Chinese. If so, great. As for me, I don't need other input
methods very much, I just want plain normal ASCII input to get through
  to my programs efficiently.

unity-control-center depends on ibus. You should not have let this
thing into stable with its absolutely atrocious performance. In my
opinion it should not be in Debian stable either; atrocious
  performance is a serious fault.

I do not expect operating system components to perform as if they were
written by grade school children. Can you fix this thing to not suck,
please? Or get rid of it. Or at least get rid of the dependency on
  it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1275398] Re: i915 driver/i945 hardware: Mir GL clients are rendered as black or transparent windows when using i945 graphics

2014-08-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Any progress is appreciated, thanks.

The GL support restrictions we will deal with when we get to them :)
Sounds like just Qt/Unity8 that's restricted and not Mir itself.

Do we have to wait for upstreaming? Until now I think our Mesa patches just
went straight to Ubuntu:

 Surface exposed
  Sometimes a bit too often.

But now such clients just say Surface exposed on startup, and never
print any occluded/exposed messages at all. Even when I am occluding

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1305006] Re: Crashes running display server scripts for non X servers

2014-08-31 Thread Robert Ancell
Found it - this is when you have script hooks for the display server [1]
LightDM makes an incorrect assumption that you are running X.

[1] from /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/90-nvidia.conf in this case.

Formatting a SD card using the disk utility fails with an error
  message

Error formatting disk - Error synchronizing after initial wipe: Timed
out waiting for object (udisks-error-quark, 0)

  Steps to repro:
  Launch the disk utility
Plug a SD card into the computer
Select the SD card and click on the gears icon at the top right of the
application
From the drop down menu, select Format Disk
maintain the default setting and select Format
  Acknowledge warnings
After format process has been going for a while, the error message shown
above pops up

  -

The underlying problem is that the wipefs tool from util-linux does
  not work any more.

  === TEST CASE ===
  $ sudo modprobe scsi_debug dev_size_mb=200
  # this creates a new /dev/sdX, usually /dev/sdb; check dmesg!

  # now create a partition table
  $ cat EOF | sudo sfdisk /dev/sdb

  /dev/sdb3 : start=0, size=0, Id= 0
  /dev/sdb4 : start=0, size=0, Id= 0
  EOF

  # now create an ext4 file system:
  $ sudo mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb1

  # check contents:
  $ sudo blkid -p /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1
  /dev/sdb: PTTYPE=dos
  /dev/sdb1: UUID=4bd1c542-a61f-43c4-a7e5-cc50e66e6b5a VERSION=1.0
TYPE=ext4 USAGE=filesystem PART_ENTRY_SCHEME=dos PART_ENTRY_TYPE=0x83
PART_ENTRY_NUMBER=1 PART_ENTRY_OFFSET=32 PART_ENTRY_SIZE=409568
PART_ENTRY_DISK=8:16

  # wipe:
  $ sudo wipefs -a /dev/sdb

  # now check contents again
  $ sudo blkid -p /dev/sdb /dev/sdb1

  # in the broken case, you will still see a dos partition table and
the ext4 partition; in the working case, /dev/sdb won't show anything
and /dev/sdb1 does not exist any more
