I am not sure if these changes will ever be implemented in the package, because 
http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/ConsoleKit/ tells
ConsoleKit is currently not actively maintained. The focus has shifted to the 
built-in seat/user/session management of Software/systemd called 
systemd-logind!

(I do not have any knowledge what has to be done to replace consolekit
functionality by systemd-logind.)

Bug description:
  The day I upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 some of my ssh sessions into
  the new system (server side is Ubuntu 14.04) started hanging.

  The symptom is: I run some command with a lot of output (say a few
  hundreds of lines) in an ssh session, and the second the command
  completes, and the shell displays a new  prompt, the shell stops
  responding to keyboard input.

  At  the exact time of the hang (to the second) I always see these 3
  warnings in syslog:

  Apr 21 18:15:25 xx console-kit-daemon[3357]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 469 was 
not found when attempting to remove it
  Apr 21 18:15:25 xx console-kit-daemon[3357]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 86 was 
not found when attempting to remove it
  Apr 21 18:15:25 xx console-kit-daemon[3357]: GLib-CRITICAL: Source ID 86 was 
not found when attempting to remove it

  The Source ID numbers vary, but the warnings always come in triplets
  at the time of the hang.   I was able to reproduce this about 10 times
  today.  Every time the session hangs, these warnings appear in the log
  and vice versa: every time they appear in the log, I have a hanged
  remote session.

  GLib recently started throwing a warning when g_source_remove()
  is passed garbage (as per warning). Your applications have probably been 
broken
  for a while, and there's no telling what could actually have happened in 
the
  past when g_source_remove() would happily close any random source because 
the
  programmer got the wrong argument to g_source_remove().

  So based on this I'm opening a bug against  consolekit for bad calls
  to g_source_remove() which seem to be related to the ssh hang.

@Ruben: for an LTS the process requires that things be fixed upstream first
(evolution  14.10 in that case) and then backported to the stable release.
This is to avoid fixes not being carried over because they applied to an
older release.

  [Impact] Google calendar integration is broken, and users are
  requested to re-enter their Google password everytime they log in, or
  everytime they enable/disable their Google account from the System
  Settings.

  [Test Case] Disable/re-enable your Google account. When affected by
  this bug, a notification will appear and you'll be asked to enter your
  Google password in the Online Accounts panel in System Settings.

  [Regression Potential] Minimal: the fix is a backport of a patch from
  the evolution-data-server code which is already in 14.10, and which
  only touches the calendar code (which is currently broken).


  Old description
  ===

  [Test Case] Sometimes after one day, sometimes after one week, the
  system indicator will turn red and the Google account will be marked
  as needing reauthentication. Time can vary, but any period shorter
  than one month is a symptom of the bug.

  [Regression Potential] Minimal: the change to the Google plugin (in
  account-plugins) simply changes the authentication method, in a way
  that is well-documented. The change in signon-plugin-oauth2 affects
  only those accounts/providers which use the OAuth refresh tokens --
  which is only Google, at the moment -- and in a way that can't
  possibly break any existing functionality; if the new code had some
  mistake, the refresh token would be unusable and the system would
  automatically fall back to requesting a new access token (which is
  exactly what happens now, with this bug).

  I'll try to find why the account-plugins package was not uploaded;
  indeed, both are required in order to fix this bug.

Bug description:
  Gnome online accounts requires autentication on startup, but even typing the 
correct password in the box, the program says the password is wrong. By the way 
evolution and other programs work well with online accounts. I'm using 
Ubuntu-gnome 14.04 LTS 64bit on different machines and have the same behaviour. 
  Just to be clear: online-accounts works well, just at startup it opens an 
administration window where it requires to insert the password for my google 
accounts; if I type the correct password it says that the password is wrong, 
the only way to close the window is to click on discard and then all works 
well.

  4. Locate the video in the gallery
  5. Tap the video thumbnail to play it in the media player

  ACTUAL RESULT
  The video plays but is black or green and with audio only, or doesn't play at 
all. Often there is a media-hub-server crash and sometimes a mediaplayer crash 
(bug 1364476)

This is perhaps not the exactly the same bug as affects me because MW600
shows up a sound output device but it only works as a handset (HDP/HFP)
but not as audio (A2DP). It worked in 12.04.

  Mir has some packages with ABI-versioned names (libmirserver17,
  libmirclient7) so that multiple versions can be installed
  simultaneously, in theory. However this plan is not working;

I use Ubuntu 14.04, a Logilink Fast Ethernet Printserver and a HP Color
Laserjet 2550L. Under Ubuntu 12.10 everything worked fine and I could
print any file.

The printer is connected via a USB to the Printserver and adressed via
HP Jet Direct. As already said, everything worked fine under 12.10 and I
didn't change any settings on the printserver.

I use the ubuntu tool for installing the printer, as a normal user not
su. Searching the network, for network printers offers me three
possibilities for adressing the printer. HP Jet Direct, IPP and LPD/LPR.
I tried all of them with the same result. I use the drivers from the
Database, not surprisingly HP/Color Laserjet 2550/HP Color Laserjet 2550
Series Postscript [en] (recommended).

After installing the printer the first thing that fails is the Testpage.
The ubunut printer spooler tells me that the job is in progress and the
printer starts to blink to tell me that he is receiving input.
Unfortunatly the job never starts or gets finished. After blinking quite
a while the printer stops an nothing happes.

Interestingly, after canceling the job on my computer and a restart of
the printer, the printserver and my computer, I can open libre office
writing Hello World go to print and the printer starts immediately and
prints the correct result. But this only works for libreoffice and only
with text, as soon as there is an image in the document it doesn't work.
I can't print any pdf or even from gedit. Nothing works. Always the same
as with the Testpage. Printer starts to blink but nothing happens.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1366747] [NEW] libudev1 seems to cause a segfault in pcscd when a Vasco DP905v1.1 smart card reader is inserted before pcscd is started

Hi,

When one plugs in a Vasco DP905v1.1 smart card reader before pcscd is
started and waits for a few moments, the green 'power' led on this
device will go off, indicating that the device is in low-power mode.
When this happens, due to an issue with the specific card reader model,
it seems to be impossible to revive the card reader without power-
cycling the USB bus.

This is especially annoying as the time between 'USB bus receives power'
and 'pcscd starts' is longer than the time it takes for the DP905v1.1 to
go to low-power mode on many systems, causing loss of functionality for
people who leave their smart card reader plugged in at boot time, and a
segfault when the most obvious way to fix the issue (remove the card
reader from the USB bus and plug it in again) is attempted. While the
loss of functionality could be considered a bug in the smart card
reader, not necessarily libudev's problem, the segfault is a different
matter.

When one then starts pcscd with the '-f' option (for 'foreground'), the
following information is printed to the console:

At this point pcscd is stuck waiting, and removing the card reader
causes the segfault.

I installed a few debug symbols packages and recompiled pcscd with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip in an effort to figure out some more
information, and have found the following:

At the point when the segfault happens, pcscd will have three threads running:
- The first thread is the main thread, which is usually in select()
- The second thread seems to be a helper thread of some sort; its stack 
backtrace contains no function symbols
- The third thread will always be in pcscd:hotplug_libudev.c, line 433:

Although this thread is always at the same location which makes me think
it seems to cause the segfault, I should note that it is in fact the

After having figured out that it's somewhere inside libudev, I wanted to
file a bug with a crash report, but apparently I must've done something
wrong, because apport no longer seems to want to write crash reports on
this system. To make matters worse,  I also can't create a core dump
using 'ulimit -c unlimited'. If someone could help me fix that, I'll
happily submit a core dump if needed.

This problem has been observed on at least three machines, all running
trusty (some amd64, some i386).

  The app should be able to cache downloaded tiles to be used in future

  In contrast to the download tile pack feature, that allows downloading

  At present, the QML component caches downloaded tiles while the app is
  running, but upon closing the app this is all forgotten, and it must
  download from scratch again the next time it is loaded. So, tiles
  should be stored in a permanent cache, so that it is not required to
  download them everytime the app is started.

  Note: Similar apps allow the user to specify the size of the cache, to
  meet their requirements. So, they can set the cache size to 1MB or
  500MB etc. depending on their needs.

  When the spread is used to display multiple windows of the same
  application, Unity will randomly order those windows if they overlap.

  This is annoying when trying to locate one window from a group of very
  similar windows, eg terminal windows. Since they all look the same in
  the spread I have to check each one in turn. But because Unity
  shuffles them around, it is impossible to tell which ones I have
  already checked.

  Debian still has keymap even in sid (unstable). Changelog of systemd
  package in Ubuntu has the following note:

  So keymap is dropped and there is no equivalent replacement yet.

  Frustrating bug that has been around since I started dogfooding ubuntu
  on my nexus 4 - somwhere around the 180 image mark. Am currently
  running devel-proposed 223 on mako.

  Have tested this in multiple apps, including the default Notes, Quick
  Memo, Touchwriter - all have the same issue. Typing and deletion work
  fine initally, until I create an empty line - see below for an
  example:

  Here I'm typing a usual line... about to make a space

  Here I'm typing after the space, etc.
  ---End Example--

  When I go back to edit the first line, as soon as I delete characters
  at the end of the line, the line below jumps up, and deletes a number
  of those characters. See below for the example:

etc.
  ---End Example--

  This makes storing notes on the device, and any editing with the
  keyboard, extremely difficult. I notice this only seems to happen when
  there is whitespace in between lines - otherwise keyboard is fine. I'm
  filing this report as a keyboard bug, as it's the only linking thread
  I can see between these programs.

  the bottom edge hint is visible and shows what the action is. This
  hint is hidden after a few seconds. This makes it difficult for the

  Add offline cache

Bug description:
  The app should be able to cache downloaded tiles to be used in future
  runs of the app.

  In contrast to the download tile pack feature, that allows downloading
  a region before going on holiday; this would provide faster viewing of
  previously viewed areas especially when the user has poor signal, as
  well as less bandwidth usage etc.

  At present, the QML component caches downloaded tiles while the app is
  running, but upon closing the app this is all forgotten, and it must
  download from scratch again the next time it is loaded. So, tiles
  should be stored in a permanent cache, so that it is not required to
  download them everytime the app is started.

  Note: Similar apps allow the user to specify the size of the cache, to
  meet their requirements. So, they can set the cache size to 1MB or
  500MB etc. depending on their needs.

It does seem that the keyboard shouldn't be putting whatever you type
into the clipboard.

That said, I wonder if this is also a bug in the terminal app? Maybe it isn't 
using these:
Qt.ImhHiddenText - Characters should be hidden, as is typically used when 
entering passwords. This is automatically set when setting echoMode to 
TextInput.Password.
Qt.ImhSensitiveData - Typed text should not be stored by the active input 
method in any persistent storage like predictive user dictionary.

Note, AIUI, the filemanager app uses the same embedded password checking
backend as the terminal so it may be affected too.

  on todays image (krillin rtm-proposed r21) with ONLY auto suggest
  language option on I get:

  13:57  asac 1. kill terminal
  13:57  asac 2. open terminal and enter pin
  13:57  asac 3. click in terminal pastes my pin :)

  obviously not good for security. Think might be bad.

  Seems its not getting to dictionary at least:

  13:58  asac 4. /me uses backspace to delete
  13:58  asac 5. type ls
  13:58  asac 6. type first digit of pin - does not suggest my pin

  This doesn't happen if I turn auto suggestion off. Not sure if the
  paste is what doesn't happen or the clipboarding doesn't happen.
  Surely important to check out and know for sure.

  We should check other credential prompts too: pin lock screen, sim pin
  etc.

  Haven't tried, but I assume UITK password fields and browser dont have
  that, but might be worth checking.

  Steps to reproduce:
  - Windows PC-Control Panel-Device Manager
  - Nexus 4 is shown under Portable devices
  - Right click on Nexus 4, choose Update Driver
  - click 'Browse my Computer for driver software'
  - click Let my pick...
  - select MTP USB Device
  Windows installs MTP USB Device driver.
  Unplug and plug USB cable back in.
  Nexus 4 device will appear in Windows Explorer.
  - Attempt to copy a file to a directory.

  Click on Nexus 4 in Windows Explorer, try to copy a file to the
  filesystem. A copied file appears duplicated.

  Expected result: Files are shown and can be copied, deleted on the
  device. Only one entry is displayed for each copied file.

is something in the environment of Ubuntu 14.10 compromising gdb functionality 
in several testcases.

  I had the music app (paused) open over night on my mako, waking up the
  device I found the application page showing me the one open app. The
  shell page itself is completely unresponsive, all side edge swipes
  seem to work fine though. I can switch to the music app when swiping
  from the right, bring up the launcher from the left and use the
  indicators from the top.

  When I am in the music app I can bring up the HUD from the bottom
  (trying to close the app, since the closing via the unresponsive shell
  does not work) but the HUD is completely unresponsive. Trying to close
  the HUD again via swiping down I see the indicators expand behind it
  and I am able to get input into the expanded indicators behind the
  HUD, but not the HUD itself.

Bug description:
  What should we do when there's a large number of dead applications
  (automatically killed due to out-of-memory situations) in the spread?

  Option 1 - Keep them all in the spread

  We must them unload those app screenshots (move them to disk) to save
  memory. If the user has a lot of dead apps in the spread, even though
  the apps themselves are not taking up memory space anymore, their
  respective screenshots in the spread still do.

  So oldest of those dead apps that are not being displayed on the
  spread should have their screenshot images unloaded and saved to disk.
  If the user then scrolls the spread making them visible again they
  should be loaded back from disk.

  There's the risk that if the user is flicking too fast down to the
  oldest apps, he might see screenshots popping in as they're reloaded
  from disk.

  Option 2 - Automatically remove the oldest dead ones

  Simpler to implement and there's no risk of running into the texture pop in 
situation described above.
  It also save the user the burden of manually removing apps he doesn't care 
anymore and probably forgot about long ago.

  [udev] /dev/disk/by-path link for scsi disks always has host 0,
  causing conflicts

Bug description:
  The /dev/disk/by-path links to scsi disks are supposed to be of the
  form scsi-$host:$bus:$device$lun.  The host portion is always zero,
  leading to duplicates from different hosts.  It appears these numbers
  are pulled from ID_PATH, and I can't figure out where this variable
  comes from.

  I noticed this while playing around with the lio fake scsi target
  adapter.  Here is the full udev info on a disk created on such an
  adapter.  As you can see, it has been assigned scsi host id 13, so
  that is what it should be using for the $host digit, rather than zero.

Bug description:
  The keyboard no longer works in the Unity 8 desktop session.  Looking
  at the ~/.cache/upstart/unity8.log, it looks as though the socket
  Unity 8 is trying to connect to does not exist.  I see some of the
  following messages:

  UbuntuKeyboardInfo - socket error: QLocalSocket::connectToServer:
  Invalid name

  then the last message says:

  Failed to connect to /run/user/1001/ubuntu-keyboard-info after 10
  failed attempts

  I looked in /run/user/1001 and did not see any file by that name.

Bug description:
  On Ubuntu 13.04 I had the middle mouse button of my Logitech T400
  mapped correctly, but after upgrading to 13.10 the /lib/udev/kemap
  utility has disappeared and now I can no longer assign the middle
  button to the middle button function. This mouse has assigned by
  default the middle button to the left_meta keyboard key (super key).
  That's very annoying because I can't do middle clicking with this
  mouse. This mouse has two middle buttons, in the trackpad that serves
  as middle wheel, but the button that currently serves as middle click
  it's in a very uncomfortable position, and the button with the
  left_meta functionality is the one I'd like to use as middle button.

  I tried modifying the file at /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb with
  this rule:

Hmm, this didn't include the information I expected. Here's a different
command to use, again with the speaker in range:

hcitool inq

You should get a list of all the devices in range and their class, etc.;
the class information is what I need.

In the meantime, I'll dig in the code and make sure all types of
speakers are properly handled, but I'd like to make certain this is
indeed saying it's a speaker, and not some other multimedia device.

  In the list of Bluetooth devices a greyed-out speaker icon is listed with the 
name '...'
  The name is never resolved and it is not possible to start a pairing request 
with the device.

  3. before the message is received slowly drag from the left edge to the right

  What happens:
  when you are dragging, there is a slight halt in the UI before the OSD 
appears.

  TEST CASE:
  1. Take a photo using the camera app
  2. Load the gallery app and view the thumbnail of the image just taken
  3. Select the thumbnail and delete it from gallery (gallery should be blank)
  4. Switch back to camera app, leaving gallery running
  5. Take another photo using the camera (take it of something different to the 
first image)
  6. Switch back to the gallery app

  EXPECTED RESULT:
  The new image thumbnail should be displayed in the gallery

  ACTUAL RESULT:
  The old thumbnail image from the first image is displayed. When you press the 
thumbnail the new image loads.
