[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374288] [NEW] upstart package should also include a systemd unit for failsafe boot

2014-09-26 Thread Dylan Borg
Public bug reported:

Currently the failsafe boot service is only shipped as an upstart job.
Since in utopic there is an ongoing transition to systemd there is a
race between upstart and systemd when it comes to networking. Network
manager may be getting started by systemd (package has a systemd unit
inside) which is not allowing events required by failsafe boot to arrive
to it so that it aborts the extra 2 minutes hang as it is running on
upstart (and cannot run on systemd).

** Affects: upstart (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369474] Re: Conversation tagged with wrong contact after sending sms

2014-09-26 Thread Tomas Öqvist
This is a nasty bug, because I am only encountering it once in a while
and so far I haven't been able to determine when it occurs other than
just sending an sms to somebody in my phone book. I have seen it with a
number of different contacts, whom have no phone numbers in common.
Sometimes I get the name of a contact that is no 3 or 4 in the chat
list, sometimes it kids me with the no 2 on the list. I just sent a
text and did not encounter the bug. I will monitor this further and try
to see if it possible to see any kind of pattern.

  3. Look at the top of the screen, which have now changed to another contact

Gives me the creeps when it looks as if I sent a text to the wrong
recipient, until I find out that the messaging app is only kidding.

Going back, the intended conversation shows at the top of the
conversations as it should, and reentering that conversation also
  shows the correct contact.

returns and the sim unlock screen never appears.

Also, I noticed that after that sometimes the contents of the network
indicator simply disappears as if the service was not running, but it
in fact is. No crashes are observed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1318360] Re: Poor microphone quality (mako)

2014-09-26 Thread Tomas Öqvist
I guess that Android applies some kind of filter to prevent the
distortion somehow picked up by the mic. Sound gets worse if I speak in
a louder voice and the output at the other end is apparantly very loud
also. As Nexus 4 is still the main phone used for Ubuntu Touch, I
believe the platform would benefit greatly if this issue could be solved
sooner than later.

  Poor microphone quality (mako)

Status in “pulseaudio” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After months of complaints from people talking to me on the phone
(mako ubuntu touch), I finally got around to use multiROM to dual boot
Ubuntu Touch and Android. Several people can confirm that there is a
noticable difference in terms of sound/microphone quality between
Android and UT in phone calls. With UT, my voice gets distorted to an
extent that person at the other end have real difficulties to hear
what I am saying, while with Android call quality is much better with
  no distortion.

I have had a suspicion for a long time that this might be a software
and not a hardware issue. After trying Android and Ubuntu on the same
hardware I believe this suspicion is proved correct. This issue has
persisted in all the builds I have tried since at least the beginning
of the year, but probably longer. I am now at r17 of Utopic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1370376] Re: Can't receive MMS despite ability to send

2014-09-26 Thread Tomas Öqvist
After looking into the apns-conf.xml on the device, I previously noted
that settings for Tele2 Sweden did not quite match the APN settings for
Nexus 4 recommended by the carrier. Strangely enough, sending MMS still
works. See settings comparison below, the most notable differences being
MNC and APN type. I did try changing the APN settings and putting an
edited copy of apns-conf.xml in /custom/etc/ earlier, but that didn't
make any difference for receiving MMS.

Ubuntu Touch RTM:
apn carrier=Tele2 MMS
  mcc=240
  mnc=05
  apn=4g.tele2.se
  mmsc=http://mmsc.tele2.se;
  mmsproxy=130.244.202.30
  mmsport=8080
  type=mms
  mvno_match_data=Tele2
  mvno_type=spn
  /

Tele2 Sweden MMS suggested settings for Nexus 4:
Name - Tele2
APN - 4g.tele2.se
Proxy - TBD (not determined)
Port - TBD
Username - TBD
Password - TBD
MMSC - http://mmsc.tele2.se
MMS proxy - 130.244.202.30
MMS port - 8080
MCC - 240
MNC - 07
Authentication type - TBD
APN type - default, supl, mms
APN protocol - IPv4
APN roaming protocol - IPv4

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1339785] Re: Google icon for provider is low-res, looks fuzzy on the phone

2014-09-26 Thread Matthieu James
I pushed the new icons into my Suru branch:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~tiheum/ubuntu-themes/suru-
icons/revision/383

I will do a merge proposal as soon as possible. The current one is
approved and ready to land.

The names of the icons are:
- online-accounts-facebook
- online-accounts-flickr
- online-accounts-google
- online-accounts-twitter
- online-accounts-yahoo

The current icons remain in the old ubuntu-mobile theme.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374207] Re: CVE-2014-7169 fix not effective on trusty

2014-09-26 Thread Seth Arnold
Thomas, I'm not sure about your test -- there is a /bin/echo in the
filesystem (from the coreutils package) so checking for a file named
'echo' in that directory is not indicative of any attack. I suspect you
also have a /root/echo file, perhaps left over from earlier testing. If
you do, please delete or rename /root/echo and test again. Be sure to
test with a freshly-started bash shell, too.

Thanks

initramfs-tools: Please support mounting of /usr in the initramfs

  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Imported from Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/652459:

  Package: initramfs-tools
  Version: 0.99
  Severity: normal
  Tags: patch

  Hi,

In order to make the libraries and binaries in /usr available during
early boot, it would be desirable to be able to mount /usr in addition
to the rootfs inside the initramfs.

This patch implements a generic solution into two parts
  1) Generation of /etc/fstab in the initramfs, including the rootfs
and all the filesystems desired to be mounted
  2) In local mountroot(), rather than just mounting the rootfs, loop
over all mountpoints in /etc/fstab and mount them.

Note that this can replace the ROOT= option with the fstab entry alone,
though if set, ROOT= supercedes the root entry. If the host /etc/fstab
does not contain a root entry, a dummy one is generated to ensure that
the rootfs is always the first entry in the initramfs fstab. This
also means that the rootfs may be mounted with the options in
  /etc/fstab.

This isn't intended to apply directly--it's more of a proof of concept.
I've tested the fstab generator; I haven't yet tested local mountroot().
Not being totally familiar with the initramfs internals, it might also
  need:

  - inclusion of modules for the additional filesystems
  - ability to NFS mount filesystems other than the rootfs, i.e.
it might need nfsmount for local (not that this is a useful use
case)

Also note that the initramfs mount option (patch sent upstream) is not
yet in mount(8), and it would need to be before the option could be
  used.

  Regards,
  Roger

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1140716]

2014-09-26 Thread Manuel Widmer
(In reply to comment #184)
 (In reply to comment #183)

I recommend configuring i915.semaphores=0. I did it and it doesn't freeze
 anymore.

Meanwhile I tested both i915.semaphores=0 and i915.semaphores=1 neither
of which did help in my case. But with i915.semaphores=0 my system
became much more unstable and even crashed on its own after some days
without stress on graphics (just ran some desktop apps like thunar or
vlc for music only - no movies). With i915.semaphores=1 the system is at
least stable (for some weeks) as long as I don't heavily use desktop
applications.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1343970] Re: gst-plugins-good pkg-config file issues

2014-09-26 Thread Iain Lane
Jim pointed me to this. I'll take a look. We have the pcfile because we
move some plugins downstream from -bad to -good, and this includes the
gstphotography library. We made it so that the -bad pcfile has Requires
on this new one, so that upstream software does not have to be modified.
This is a change that was done in good faith really, and I'm sorry it's
causing a problem here.

Title:
  gst-plugins-good pkg-config file issues

Status in “gst-plugins-good1.0” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Came across a small bug while trying to build the gst-rtsp-server-1.2.3.
Using Ubuntu 14.04, and gst-plugins installed from the official ubuntu
repositories.
While building, it tries to use the gstreamer-plugins-good-1.0.pc pkg-config
file (which has pluginsdir missing).
  1. If libgstreamer-plugins-good1.0-dev_1.2.4-1~ubuntu1_i386.deb is removed
(which removes the .pc file too), the rtsp-server builds fine.
  2. Another fix will be to add the pluginsdir in the .pc file (The debian
package should be modified ). After reading up a bit more, I came across this
in gst-check.m4 dnl Will set GST_PLUGINS_GOOD_DIR for use in Makefile.am. Note
that this will dnl only be set in an uninstalled setup, since -good ships no
.pc file and in dnl an installed setup all plugins will be found in
GST_PLUGINS_DIR anyway. Hence there shouldn't be a .pc file for
gst-plugins-good anyway.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1349281] Re: The exposed open windows are displayed in the correct order

Title:
The exposed open windows are displayed in the correct order

Status in Unity:
  Confirmed
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When multiple non-maximised windows of the same program are open and
one clicks on the icon of the program in the launcher, they are all
shown one next to each other but in the wrong order: windows that are
in the top-left corner can be shown in the right bottom position or on
  the top bottom corner.

This makes very hard to switch between similarly looking windows like
  terminals.

  How to reproduce:

  * launch four or so terminal windows;
  * write something different on each of them to be able to tell them apart;
  * move each window to a different corner, possibly using the auto-resizing
feature of Unity;
  * click on the terminal icon in the launcher;
  * many terminal windows are displayed;
  * choose the thumbnail in the right-top corner;
  * very likely a window that was in another corner has been selected;
  * try again various time and realize how confusing this all is.

The thing that is more strange is that you have to move the mouse
pointer to a certain point (let's say right-top), then you see the
window has appeared far away (let's say bottom-left) so you have to
  move your mouse again.

Title:
qtcreator-plugin autopkg test fails on AMD64 mesa mesa_10.3.0

Status in “mesa” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
So, in the course of a unity8 package migration it got halted due to
  qtcreator-plugin autopkg test failing

  see here

http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/update_excuses.html

which lead me to look at the jenkins run, note its only failling on amd64 arch
  and...you can see from here

https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/utopic-adt-qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/
it started failing about 24 hrs ago with can't init gxl...almost certainly
meaning it's unhappy with mesa.
low and behold the difference between the pasing jenkins and failing is

  passing -
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/utopic-adt-qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/266/console
  which uses
  mesa 10.2.6-1ubuntu3

  failing -
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/utopic-adt-qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/267/console
  which uses
  mesa 10.3.0-0ubuntu1

So can we do a couple of things?
  - revert mesa and see if that fixes the autopkgtest to confirm
  - if so, please leave reverted until we find out why so we can actually
continue landing our unity8/uitk/webbrowser stuff
  - lastly, might be good to add qtcreator-plugin as an autopkgtest dependency
to land a new mesa

sorry for marking critical, but we're sunk until we get this sorted

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1353951] Re: gnome online accounts require autentication on startup

2014-09-26 Thread yazid
Yes, I'm sure. I use the Pc for 12h a day. The good thing is that now
this bug happens only once or two times a day, not every day. Tha bad
thing is that I don't even know how to reproduce it. So it's difficult
to help you in the debugging process. Nevertheless I think is acceptable
to roll out the update. I keep the proposed repo active so I can install
the latest fixes and I will let you know when it's definitely fixed for
me. Thanks

Bug description:
[Impact] Google calendar integration is broken, and users are
requested to re-enter their Google password everytime they log in, or
everytime they enable/disable their Google account from the System
  Settings.

  [Test Case]
  1) open gnome-online-accounts
  2) click + and add a google account
  3) enter user name and password
  4) confirm permissions for gnome
  5) Black window pops up and asks for google password, but does not accept the
correct password.
Google Contacts are not available in Gnome or Thunderbird

[Regression Potential] Minimal: the fix is a backport of a patch from
the evolution-data-server code which is already in 14.10, and which
only touches the calendar code (which is currently broken).

Gnome online accounts requires autentication on startup, but even typing the
correct password in the box, the program says the password is wrong. By the way
evolution and other programs work well with online accounts. I'm using
Ubuntu-gnome 14.04 LTS 64bit on different machines and have the same behaviour.
Just to be clear: online-accounts works well, just at startup it opens an
administration window where it requires to insert the password for my google
accounts; if I type the correct password it says that the password is wrong,
the only way to close the window is to click on discard and then all works
well.

  qtcreator-plugin autopkgtest fails on AMD64 mesa mesa_10.3.0

Status in “mesa” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
So, in the course of a unity8 package migration it got halted due to
  qtcreator-plugin autopkg test failing

  see here

http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/update_excuses.html

which lead me to look at the jenkins run, note its only failling on amd64 arch
  and...you can see from here

https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/utopic-adt-qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/
it started failing about 24 hrs ago with can't init gxl...almost certainly
meaning it's unhappy with mesa.
low and behold the difference between the pasing jenkins and failing is

  passing -
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/utopic-adt-qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/266/console
  which uses
  mesa 10.2.6-1ubuntu3

  failing -
https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/utopic-adt-qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/ARCH=amd64,label=adt/267/console
  which uses
  mesa 10.3.0-0ubuntu1

So can we do a couple of things?
  - revert mesa and see if that fixes the autopkgtest to confirm
  - if so, please leave reverted until we find out why so we can actually
continue landing our unity8/uitk/webbrowser stuff
  - lastly, might be good to add qtcreator-plugin as an autopkgtest dependency
to land a new mesa

sorry for marking critical, but we're sunk until we get this sorted

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1370612] Re: contacts from a google account fail to sync

2014-09-26 Thread Jane Silber
This morning I upgraded to r67, tried to sync, no results. So I went to
double-check that access to contacts was granted to the accounts and
this time it showed that it wasn't (previously I double-checked that
setting and I know it was enabled). So I (re)enabled it, and sync
started automatically. Not sure what's happening - there's a chance
that it was user error, but it feels to me like account access settings
weren't be recognised or that UI was displaying correctly or that the
upgrade reset the settings.

I'll report here if I see further strange behaviour or can reproduce it,
but it's in a working state now.

Although I can currently recreate the bug with Files (Nautilius, is
it?), I remember having seen such a thing before with other windows,
although only with previous Ubuntu versions.

The bug is as follows. In the current desktop, I open Files (and I see
the arrows on the left saying how many of such windows are open). It
only happens if Files is open once. I click on a partition that is not
automatically mounted on startup (e.g. a Windows partition) (I haven't
tested with one that automatically mounts but is not a part of /),
regardless of whether it was previously mounted or not.

When I switch away from that window (e.g. click on Firefox), then I
click back on its icon, I get a new Files window, rather than the old
one I had open, which was viewing the windows partition. If you can't
replicate this, try CTRL+L (leave the cursor on the path box) on that
window and then switch away and back.

Note that with ALT+TAB and ALT+` I can see the window alright. Also, if
there is more than one Files window, whether all looking at windows
partitions or not, there is no problem, even if the first such window
was the last to be viewed, clicking on the Files icon correctly
returns to that window.

In summary, when Files is opened once and viewing a windows partition,
clicking on a different application and back on its icon opens a new
Files window rather than switch to the old one.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1358750] Re: [Video aggregator] New videos are added to the video scope only after reboot

I've put together a merge proposal that changes the way media scanner
tracks mount/unmount of removable media here:

https://code.launchpad.net/~jamesh/mediascanner2/udisk-
mounts/+merge/236057

I'd appreciate if people who have been able to reproduce this problem
give the changes a try. The output.zip links from Jenkins contain armhf
debs, so this doesn't require you to manually build the package. Right
now, the latest build can be found here:

Bug description:
upstart is currently quite deeply wired into our dependencies. Even in
a minimally bootstrapped chroot needs it, although this doesn't do any
  booting at all:

  # dpkg -P upstart
dpkg: dependency problems prevent removal of upstart:
   initscripts depends on upstart.
plymouth depends on upstart (= 1.11-0ubuntu3).

On a desktop the list is quite a bit longer:

   ubuntu-minimal depends on upstart.
   avahi-daemon depends on upstart (= 0.6.7-4).
friendly-recovery depends on upstart. (See bug 1351316, needs sysv/systemd
script first)
   initscripts depends on upstart.
ureadahead depends on upstart (= 0.6.0). (No need to fix -- can just drop
that along with upstart for systemd images, systemd has readahead built in)
plymouth depends on upstart (= 1.11-0ubuntu3).
dbus depends on upstart (= 0.6.3-6).
   unity-services depends on upstart.
init depends on upstart. (Not important right now, switch to alternative
deps once systemd is ready)

Most of the latter probably don't need to; versioned depends might be
converted into equivalent versioned breaks, for others an alternative
dependency might be considered. The main exception is that we are
using session upstart on the desktop (unity-services etc.), for this
we probably need to split out an upstart-sysv (for /sbin/init, reboot,
halt, etc., similar to systemd-sysv) or an upstart-core (similar to
  sysvinit-core vs. sysvinit).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1374386] [NEW] sftp client stores files and directories with wrong permissions received by the server and lets download fail

2014-09-26 Thread Michael Mess
Public bug reported:

The problem occurs always, but only with remote site reporting
wrong/broken file permissions:

sftp downloads files with those wrong permissions. The download succeeds, but
to access the file, you have to chmod them.
Recursive downloads fail reproducibly.
A workaround for a manual download could be to chmod the directories and try
the command again, then chmod the downloaded tree again, try the download
again, ... , until the download was successful.

The remote site reports wrong permissions (no permission at all) for each
directory and file.
sftp takes these permissions for the download, even when it is not told to do
so via option.
As a result the downloaded directories have no write permissions and
downloading the contained files fails.

The directory has been created, but with empty permissions, thus
downloading the content fails, because the local files/directories could
not be created.

Expected behaviour:
sftp should use local umask or given umask for creating files and directories.
Only when it has been told to by option, it should set the remote permissions
of directories and files, but only after their content has been downloaded, so
that local files and directories can be created for download, even when the
remote directory does not have write permission enabled.
Thus it could even download and reproduce a directory tree without write
permissions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369644] Re: [enhancement] Should be possible to take a screen shot on the phone from the phone itself

2014-09-26 Thread Vesa Rautiainen
I very much favor this enhancement!

iOS: Power button + Home button
Android: Power button + Volume Down
Windows: Power button + Volume Up

So there is no unified convention across different platforms.
So let's say Power button + Volume Down it is.

Is this kind of key combination something we can implement?

  Expected behaviour:
sftp should use local umask or given umask for creating files and directories.
Only when it has been told to by option, it should set the remote permissions
of directories and files, but only after their content has been downloaded, so
that local files and directories can be created for download, even when the
remote directory does not have write permission enabled.
Thus it could even download and reproduce a directory tree without write
permissions.

Bug description:
You'll have to compile (prototype) the Youtube scope from source
(https://launchpad.net/unity-scope-youtube/), as it's not in distro
  yet.

  Basically the workflow is:
  1) Search for something that has a result with a scope URI for the current
scope. In the case of Youtube, search for queenofficial to get Queen's music
channel.
  2) Preview the first item (the channel itself), and click the search button.
  3) This runs a new query for the current scope, but doesn't switch away from
the preview view).
  4) You will see a preview of the first video in the new results list.

Like when searching other scopes, the view should be returned to the
results list, instead of saying in the preview view.

2014-09-26 Thread Michael Mess
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1374386 ***

I was able to reproduce it with a broken remote site that reports its
files have no permission at all.

Remote permissions are applied to local directories before its content
is downloaded. Thus local files could not be created.

Removed department stays in the shell

Status in “unity-scopes-shell” package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
It's seems like the plugin doesn't notice when one of the departments
disappears (is no longer returned by the scope) and doesn't notify
shell about it, so that department is still displayed.

This is visible with the following branch of click scope:
  https://code.launchpad.net/~stolowski/unity-scope-click/no-empty-
  departments/+merge/230077

The case is as follows - consider we're always in the root of all departments
in the dash.
  1) scope responds with A and B sub-departments of All departments; A and B
are shown when you open the departments menu.
  2) scope content is refreshed somehow (e.g. you redo a search), and now it
responds with A only.

Result: both A and B are still shown.

Expected result: only A is shown.

Steps to reproduce with the above branch of click scope:
  1) Go to Ubuntu Store and install an app from a department, that was
previously not shown in Apps.
  2) After installation completes, go back to Apps - search results are
refreshed (new app appears), and new department appears in the departments menu.
  3) Uninstall that app: search results are refreshed, but the department that
is now empty doesn't disappear (you can verify with scopes-cli that it's not
returned anymore by the scope); after reboot however the department is not
shown anymore

Bug description:
Departments get confused / break when going from a subdepartment of
Apps (click scope) to same subdepartment of Store (click store scope)
via a canned query. Department ids of both scopes are the same (if
  this is significant at all).

UPDATED: this problem cannot be reproduced anymore with Ubuntu Store
because it now has flat hierarchy of departments; and as far as I
know, there are no other scopes affected by it at the moment. However,
the problem is valid and will affect scopes with deep hierarchy of
departments whenever a canned query attempts to perform search in a
  subdepartment.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Open Apps.
  2) Go to Internet department
  3) Click the orange 'Ubuntu store' icon at the bottom (its category title
should say Get more apps like thisfrom the Store).
  4) You should be presented with the 'Top interent Apps' category of the
store, and department tree has only All Departments and Internet
subdepartment. It's not possible to navigate to the root of the store from it.

If the URI for a scope result icon can not be loaded, the scope result

To counter this, the shell should replace the result image with a
fallback image if the Image QML component changes to the Error state.
At a minimum a single standard fallback image would be sufficient, but
letting the scope pick a custom fallback via the category renderer
  template would be better.

One reason I'd like to see this is so we can switch the album art
image provider to stop returning a fallback image. This has been
requested by the music-app guys, and seems sensible since we might
want different fallbacks in different contexts:

  https://code.launchpad.net/~jamesh/thumbnailer/no-fallback-
  albumart/+merge/219460

It might also be useful for remote scopes using http: URIs for result
  icons.

Title:
  Non-favorited scopes are not refreshed

Status in “unity-scopes-shell” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  How to reproduce:

  - Go to the store scope.
  - Make sure it's not favorited. If it is favorited, unfav it then leave the
scope and return to it.
  - Tap on the icon of some FREE app that is not installed.
  - On the preview of the app, tap on Install, and wait for the installation
to finish.
  - Click on the button on the preview header to go back to the results.

  What happens:
  - The icon attributes still show FREE

  What should happen:
  - The scope should have been refreshed, and ✔INSTALLED should be shown
instead

This works ok for scopes that are favorited.

The main exception is that we are
using session upstart on the desktop (unity-services etc.), for this
we probably need to split out an upstart-sysv (for /sbin/init, reboot,
halt, etc., similar to systemd-sysv) or an upstart-core (similar to
  sysvinit-core vs. sysvinit).
