Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I have just performed a completely clean installation of Utopic from

mouse buttons. Neither the left nor right mouse buttons have any
effect when pressed. I tried connecting another mouse but it exhibits
the same behavior - the cursor moves but the clicks don't do anything.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382845] Re: Mouse buttons are ignored

2014-10-19 Thread Luis Alvarado
I am also experiencing this since 2 days ago on my tests. I also face
the same problem with the background window receiving the clicks and the
front windows caring less about them.

At first I thought it was the mouse (logitech anywhere) so I changed
batteries. I could move the cursor but no clicks. I even disassembled
the mouse. Nothing. I then used another logitech. Same problem. It was
not until I went back to 14.04 or tested on my neighbor's computer that
I saw the problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382916] [NEW] Show Desktop icon changes its position on unity launcher when changing background

2014-10-19 Thread Ljiljan Veselinović
Public bug reported:

When changing background image in Ubuntu 14.04 (or any earlier version)
AND option Add Show Desktop Icon on Launcher is previously enabled in
Appareance Settings - Show dekstop icon will change its position
(order) in launcher (toolbar). So if it was second icon in launcher, it
will become the last.

This only occurs when changing background image.

** Affects: unity (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382462] Re: Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration

2014-10-19 Thread Piotr Kołaczkowski
Installing Nvidia 340.46 driver does not fix the problem (and adds one
more - incorrect rendering of menu highlight - but this driver is not
officially supported by ubuntu yet, so never mind).

Title:
Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
My setup: Dell M4600 laptop with Dell U3011 2560x1600 monitor attached
  to DisplayPort.

I was using Nvidia 331.38 prioprietary driver for quite a long time
with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and everything worked perfectly. Today I
upgraded to Ubuntu 14.10, which comes with Nvidia 331.89 and observed
  the following problem:

  1. When I boot up the computer with the monitor connected, the login
screen looks fine. Both displays get detected properly and resolutions
are ok (1920x1080 on the builtin laptop display and 2560x1600 on
U3011) and screen contents scaled properly.

  2. Then I log into my account, for 3 seconds U3011 displays some
rubbish (but it was always like that) and when it finally logs in, it
displays everything stretched horizontally through both my screens. It
looks as if it tried to paint the contents of a single display on two
of them, by stretching the content horizontally, so everything (icons,
windows, wallpaper) has wrong aspect-ratio. Funny, the top status bar
seem to render correctly and the resolution/size of the top menu is
correct. Physical resolution of both screens is ok. I'll attach a
photo, because it is hard to describe how it looks.

  3. I cannot use system in this state - mouse click position seems to
not be synchronized with what's on the display - e.g. I can start
applications, but then they don't react to mouseclicks.

However: booting up without the second display connected, logging in
and *then* connecting the second display works fine.

If I boot up with connected monitor and log in (desktop distorted),
disconnecting and connecting monitor does *not* help. After disconnecting the
U3011, the builtin display is painted ok, but after connecting, it returns back
to the incorrect state and both are rendered incorrectly.
The only thing that helps recovering from this state seems to be
disconnecting the second monitor, reboot, logging in and then connecting.

Suspending to memory and waking up does not change the layout of the
screen (neither fixes the broken one nor destroys the good one).

Using a Guest session instead of my account does not fix my problem (I
was hoping this was something screwed up in my .config).

Switching to a Guest user account while I'm using both monitors in the
good layout creates a session with a broken layout. Then logging out
from Guest and switching back to my original session restores the good
layout. The good layout seems to not be forgotten until I finish the
session and logout. The bad layout is created whenever I start a new
session with both monitors plugged in.

BTW: I'm using a docking station - not sure if it is related - if you
think it might be, I can try with connecting the monitor directly.

I tried deleting ~/.compiz and ~/.config/compiz-1 directories but the problem
remains.
I also tried to go into the Displays configuration when everything is ok,
apply the settings there (without any changes) in hope it will persist them
somehow, but after restart it is broken again.

I also tried reinstalling nvidia 331.89 drivers, because it complained
about not being able to install nvidia-uvm during the upgrade process
(reported separately), and now all nvidia packages installed cleanly.
Before that I also got rid of all the ppa mainline kernels I had, just
in case they mess something up.

I remember the same problem happened on Ubuntu 14.04 when I tried to
upgrade nvidia from ppa/xorg-edgers to 331.89, but then the easy
workaround was to downgrade back to official 331.38. Now I have no
  choice :(

Some other observations that may or may not be related to the problem,
but I disclose them anyway, maybe they are helpful:

  * Notifications (e.g. network connection) displayed on the login
screen in dual screen mode seem to be misplaced and instead of being
painted in the upper right corner of one of the displays they get
painted in some hard to logically explain position - neither at the
  center, nor in any corner.

  * The splash screen of IntelliJ IDEA (this is using Java / AWT
probably) is also rendered in a strange position - below the center of
the laptop screen, moved to the right (but not touching the edge),
instead of exact center as it should be.

  * GMail notification just displayed at the moment when I'm writing it
exactly at the left-lower corner of the bigger screen (U3011).

  * Nvidia settings lists only U3011 in the list

audit.log, lots of entries similar to the following:

  type=AVC msg=audit(1335712674.515:655016): apparmor=ALLOWED
  operation=getattr parent=10922 profile=/usr/sbin/dovecot//null-107

  name=/home/foobar/Maildir/.foobar/dovecot.index.log pid=10937
  comm=imap requested_mask=r denied_mask=r fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

The apparmor policy is as shipped with 12.04. The strange thing here
is that audit.log says that the access was allowed and the apparmor
policy has flags=(complain), but the imap server still fails
accessing some files in the Maildir folders.

  Workaround:

  # ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.dovecot /etc/apparmor.d/disable/

After disabling the usr.sbin.dovecot apparmor policy everything works
fine. There is no need to disable the usr.lib.dovecot.imap policy.

It looks like the imap process is incorrectly running under the
dovecot main daemon's apparmor profile. And for some odd reason the
profile is enforcing things even though it should be in complain
mode. What are these //null-NNN/ strings in the logged apparmor
profile name? I do not know apparmor well enough to debug this further
  at this point.

Someone else has encountered this also, see thread at:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1362521] Re: juno: not a valid cloud-archive name

2014-10-19 Thread Matteo Panella
Right now, the only way of getting Juno on 14.04 is by using the old
manual method (eg. install ubuntu-cloud-keyring and create a listfile in
/etc/apt/sources.list.d).

I'd wait for the greenlight from Canonical, though: the last upload
happened two days ago, so the archive might still not be ready for prime
time.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: Network Manager asks for the PIN even if it is memorized

2014-10-19 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
I confirm that the PIN prompt does appear over again. It even pops up at
the login screen, as Daniel described in comment #40.

Bug description:

  HOW TO REPRODUCE

  1. Plug the USB modem into a port.

  2. When you are asked to enter the modem's PIN, do along with the
  automatically unlock this device option.

  3. Unplug the modem, and plug it again.

  **
  EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - The modem to be automatically unlocked.

  **
  REAL BEHAVIOUR
  **

  - You are asked to enter the PIN again.

  WORK-AROUNDS

  - Changing the SIM's PIN to empty.

  - Renaming the /usr/share/nm-applet/gsm-unlock.ui file.

  RELEVANT DETAILS

  - The same behaviour when configuring the PIN from the Network
  Connections menu.

  - Even if the PIN is stored in /etc/NetworkManager/system-
connections/, Network Manager cannot retrieve it.

  - The bug makes the device to become locked as soon as network
connectivity is lost for a while.

  - This bug forces administrators to tell the PIN to other users, while
they will rather want to keep it in secret and just allow themselves
to be able to configure the connectivity in specific devices.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 846407] Re: xrdp is not able to transmitt unity desktop correct - different clients

2014-10-19 Thread Roland Giesler
I think we should make a new concerted effort to get this addressed:

1. It doesn't seem any client can remotely connection to Unity-3D. That
includes X2Go, xrdp, nxclient and possibly others.
2. This is a core component of LTSP for instance, which cannot run Unity-3D
either

The least we should be able to get from the Ubuntu Devs is a roadmap or
plan. If they don't want to fix it, they should tell us why.

Title:
[RV770] Dumped into login screen while using google earth

Status in “mesa” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

I was scrolling around in Google Earth when the screen suddenly went
black. System did not reboot, but shortly the login screen appeared.

I have seen this happen several times on this computer, as well as
another computer with an older ATI card and 32 bit processor.

This did not happen with the ATI proprietary driver on 9.10. I do not
know if this happens on the ATI proprietary driver under 10.04 because
google earth would crash before the globe appeared with that setup
(did not dump me back at the login screen).

This is the second time I have attempted to enter this bug. 1st time,
I said yes to the request for extra information, waited an hour for
300 MiB to be transfered, then errored out with a could not connect
  to database error.

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

  --
For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 937537] Re: libgnutls26 2.12.14 breaks SSL tracker support in Transmission

2014-10-19 Thread Shadow Panther
This bug exists in 14.04 with fresh updates. Installing libgnutls26 is
no longer possible, as it breaks depends for other packages. Version of
libgnutls26 from sid doesn't fix the bug.

Can I do something else to fix this or provide more information for
fixing?

Title:
libgnutls26 2.12.14 breaks SSL tracker support in Transmission

Status in “gnutls26” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
The version of libgnutls26 currently in Pangolin alpha causes SSL
torrent trackers to time out during the scrape in Transmission.

Running Transmission with env var TR_CURL_VERBOSE=1 reveals the
  following:

  * Operation timed out after 30001 milliseconds with 0 out of 0 bytes received
  * Closing connection #2
  * gnutls_handshake() failed: Error in the push function.
  * Closing connection #0

I installed libgnutls26 packages from Debian sid (2.12.16-1) and the
problem goes away. Please update the packages in Pangolin (or backport
  a fix).

Bug description:
It would be nice if alternative keyboard layouts were available for
  Ubuntu Touch.

On Android devices I use the Hacker's Keyboard
  https://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/ from F-Droid

https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=org.pocketworkstation.pckeyboardfdid=org.pocketworkstation.pckeyboard
as this allows customisation and easy access to keys such as Ctrl,
Esc, !, : and - and these are keys that take a lot of key presses with
the current Ubuntu touch keyboard (I use vim). In addition key
combinations such as Ctrl-n and Ctrl-p (next and previous channel in
IRSSI) are not possible with the current Ubuntu Touch keyboard.

Having said the above the gestures, double tap for tab, swipe up, down
, left and right for the arrow keys is great and I now find myself
trying to use these gestures on Android devices...

Title:
Mount and D-Bus rules aren't being optimized correctly

Status in AppArmor Linux application security framework:
  Fix Released
Status in “apparmor” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I noticed that mount and dbus rules weren't being optimized correctly
when a more permissive rule follows. For example, 'mount fstype=foo,
mount' should result in the 'mount fstype=foo,' rule being optimized
away. That rule is currently not optimized away and, oddly enough, the
last 'o' in foo is truncated.

Here's a more clear example with ext2 and ext3 fstypes:

  $ echo /t { mount fstype=ext2, mount, } | apparmor_parser -qQD dfa-states
2ext2
  $ echo /t { mount fstype=ext3, mount, } | apparmor_parser -qQD dfa-states
2ext3
  $ md5sum ext2 ext3
  e5d4e0b335b1bb530fbff8e0cdfa7337 ext2
  e5d4e0b335b1bb530fbff8e0cdfa7337 ext3
  $ cat ext2
  {1} == (allow/deny/audit/quiet)
  {6} (0x 2/0/0/0)

  {1} - {2}: 0x7
  {2} - {3}: 0x0
  {2} - {2}: []
  {3} - {4}: 0x0
  {3} - {3}: []
  {4} - {6}: 0x0
  {4} - {7}: 0x65 e
  {4} - {5}: []
  {5} - {6}: 0x0
  {5} - {5}: []
  {6} (0x 2/0/0/0) - {6}: [^\0x0]
  {7} - {6}: 0x0
  {7} - {8}: 0x78 x
  {7} - {5}: []
  {8} - {6}: 0x0
  {8} - {5}: 0x74 t
  {8} - {5}: []

While the md5sum of the ext2 and ext3 files should be equal, they
should not contain any remnants of the fstype=ext2 or fstype=ext3
  conditional.

Off the top of his head, JJ thinks that it has to do with the DFA
  minimization in parser/libapparmor_re/hfa.cc.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1382864] Re: No indicator on pinned apps

2014-10-19 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
It was decided (Bug #1381054) that there won't be any indicator for
pinned apps because the two solutions that been tried so far have been
bad.

Besides there is no indication of pinned apps in Unity 7 and there
wasn't at any point in time. I don't think that it is needed on phones
and tablets and Unity 8.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1381914] Re: Screen Display goes haywire

2014-10-19 Thread ndahiya
Are there any fixes/workarounds regarding this issue? This happens 5-6
times a day everyday and restarting is the only way to be able to use my
computer. Often the OS would freeze when I go to restart the computer
and hard shutdown remains the only option. Another screenshot is
attached.

Thanks.

  Screen Display goes haywire

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I upgraded to ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr a couple of days ago. There
were a few errors/bugs which I automatically reported but I ended up
with a usable OS and mostly everything worked fine. Suddenly the
display on monitors turned haywire. I have a 2 monitors set up and
both monitors started displaying random gray stripes on top of the
actual applications that were open on the screens. Both the screens
were covered in these gray stripes which were moving around randomly
  as well.

I don't know what package or software/application is responsible for
the behavior. It was the first time it happened on ubuntu (14.04, I
had been been using ubuntu 12.04 for almost 2 years prior with same
hardware) but I have seen this happen on Fedora 20 with a 2 monitor
  setup multiple times.

I have a camera photo of what the screens looked like but the
printscreen option on the keyboard failed to save the data on the
  screens.

Let me know if any further information is desired.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1316265] Re: Maximized Window's Title Bar Does Not Merge into Menu Bar after Performing Super+W (window spread) filtering

I'm still having this issue in Utopic 14.10, Unity 7.3.1

The only fix I've found is deactivating Spread in Unity Tweaks.

A maximized application's title bar does not merge into the menu bar
once a user has performed Super + W (window slide). Note that if one
does not do Super+E, then the bars to merge together. However, once
Super+E has been performed, this bug persists for the lifetime of the
windowed application. If the application is restarted after doing
Super+E, then the bug is gone. Thus, it seems like Super+E introduces
this bug for the lifetime of the windowed application.

Expected behavior: Maximized window's title bar is merged into menu bar.
Observed: Does not occur after Super+W is performed.

  Try this out using Terminal.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1063350] Re: curl corrupts floating point context

2014-10-19 Thread Yinon-David-Zadok
But is it still reproducible on Ubuntu 14.10 with the latest PyCURL?

Im not an expert, I just saw that amd cpu(s) ARE related (I think).
But, do you ask if the fix is reproducible? or if the bug is reproducible?

Anyway I've never installed 14.10. You can try the solution in comment
#4

Command (fix) with sudo:
sudo apt-get install python-software-properties=0.82.7

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1381475] Re: Firewire sound card registered by the name of the fw controller

2014-10-19 Thread Takashi Sakamoto
FYI, a part of my work is already included in Linux 3.16 or later. In
this bug, the reporter uses my breeding-edge in github.com, thus you may
have an idea that this is due to out-of-tree kernel modules. But you can
actually see the same issue on Ubuntu utopic.

http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/amd64/linux-image-extra-3.16.0-23-generic/filelist
(You can see
/lib/modules/3.16.0-23-generic/kernel/sound/firewire/bebob/snd-bebob.ko in this
list.)

FireWire controller through which the sound card is connected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1354924] Re: Networkmanager does not autoconnect to wireless network

2014-10-19 Thread Søren Holm
I can add that flipping ipv5 setting to ignore and then back to
automatic makes auto connection work again. I do think that it is
needed for every reboot though. But it's a workaround.

   alsa-mixer.c?id=527078523815587bfd021bc1d10782403e9b3e84

Before this patch, my card worked perfectly. I am now able to use it by
choosing the 5.1 Profile with pavucontrol. With this fix however, I get
maximum volume every time I restart the computer.. but this is probably
  another story.

did you change masks in alsa-mixer.h

 pa_log_warn(Volume element %s has %u channels.
 That's too much! I can't handle that!, e-alsa_name, e-n_channels);
 return -1;
   }

after doing so I have to recompile alsa, right?

Title:
  No indicator on pinned apps

Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
On rtm 5 with mako, there is no longer any indicator on pinned apps.
All that's seen is an arrow on the app that is in focus. This is not
very useful on a ubuntu touch device. Please bring back the indicator
on pinned apps, so we can see what's pinned to the app bar!

Before this patch, my card worked perfectly. I am now able to use it by
choosing the 5.1 Profile with pavucontrol. With this fix however, I get
maximum volume every time I restart the computer.. but this is probably
 another story.

openldap upgrade fails. chwon of olcDbDirectory, /var/lib/ldap not
empty and missing backup of suffix

Status in “openldap” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “openldap” package in Debian:

Bug description:
Upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS to 14.04.1 LTS
  (slapd-2.4.28-1.1ubuntu4.4 to slapd-2.4.31-1+nmu2ubuntu8), it fails
horribly on my setup with one disk-backend and one ldap-backend (sync
  to another server).

  First, dump_databases in
  /var/lib/dpkg/info/slapd.{config,preinst,postinst} fails due to
get_directory returning olcDbDirectory instead of /var/lib/ldap.
This is caused by a missing -h to grep, causing another : in the
returned line, thus causing the '| cut -d: -f 2' to get the wrong part
of the line. This causes both the backup of the suffix to fail, and
later the chown after restore to fail.

  grep olcDbDirectory: `grep -l olcSuffix: ...

  should have been

  grep -h olcDbDirectory: `grep -l olcSuffix: ...

later, get_suffix causes the same suffix to be reported twice, thus
causing database load to fail on the second round of the while since
/var/lib/ldap is already loaded with the correct files, but is
expected to be empty. I fixed it with a '| sort -u' in get_suffix, but
i guess it would be better to maybe redo load_databases' while loop to
get both suffix and dbdir (since you can have the same suffix stored
in more than one location, as I have, and thus first getting the
suffix and then doing a grep for the olcDbDirectory in get_directory
will cause the same storage to be reported for both instances of the
  suffix)

Database upgrade/migration fails with nested db directories (lucid to
  precise)

Status in “openldap” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “openldap” source package in Precise:
  Confirmed
Status in “openldap” package in Debian:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Hi,

I've just performed an upgrade of our LDAP server on Ubuntu 10.04.4
LTS to Ubuntu 12.04 (I acknowledge this upgrade path is not officially
  supported yet).

The incompatible database upgrading process in the preinst/postinst
files failed in the following scenario.

We have two suffixes/databases at the following paths:-

   * /var/lib/ldap
   * /var/lib/ldap/accesslog

The preinst database dumping part of the process worked just fine and
created the appropriate LDIF files under
  /var/backup/slapd-2.4.21-0ubuntu5.7, however the restore failed
  stating:-

    Loading from /var/backups/slapd-2.4.21-0ubuntu5.7:
    - directory dc=REDACTEDs,dc=co,dc=uk... failed.

Loading the database from the LDIF dump failed with the following
  error while running slapadd:
4fbdfebf olcDbDirectory: value #0: invalid path: No such file or directory
  4fbdfebf config error processing olcDatabase={2}hdb,cn=config:
olcDbDirectory: value #0: invalid path: No such file or directory
  slapadd: bad configuration directory!

This is because when move_incompatible_databases_away() runs it finds
the main database first (/var/lib/ldap) and moves all top level
entries (find -mindepth 1 -maxdepth 1 ...) into the backup directory
and this includes the accesslog subdirectory which then no longer
exists. When slapadd runs it checks config specifying that directory
and bails with the above error given it is indeed missing.

I've tested a tentative fix and that's to patch the two find commands
(one in is_empty_dir() one in move_old_database_away to also specify
-type f so that the directory structure is preserved when moving the
old database away (accesslog will be backed up separately when its
suffx is iterated over in move_incompatible_databases_away()).

The simple and very tentative patch for this is:-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1383085] [NEW] background in app carousel view does not show background image

2014-10-19 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

A swipe from the right edge of the phone towards the center fans out all
the apps, showing a carousel-like view.

However, the background is always black, whereas I would have expected
the background to be the selected background image.

Black is problematic since if one of the open apps is the camera, and
the camera is face-down on a table for example, it will be showing a
black image meaning that the camera app is presented as a pure black
preview on a black background.

krillin, r117.
