In the process of debugging bug 1350529 we have a small piece of
  sample code.

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/+branch/~andrew-hayzen/+junk/ms2-empty-
  models-example

I grabbed that, made a click package click build ./ms2-empty-models-
example then pushed it to my device adb push com.ubuntu.developer
  .andrew-hayzen.mediascanner2-test-app_0.1_all.click /tmp and
  installed it phablet-shell, pkcon install-local
  /tmp/com.ubuntu.developer.andrew-hayzen.mediascanner2-test-
app_0.1_all.click then started the app by searching in the dash.

What I got was moving visual corruption in the window. See screenshot.

Bug description:
Lately, a member (Ümit) of the XDA Developers forum reported that his Nexus 4
always goes into a bootloop when he sets the system language to Turkish.
It doesn't matter whether he sets it in the system settings wizard which is
shown on first boot or in the system settings application.
If he sets it in the system settings wizard, he won't get to see the OS after
finishing the setup process, and if he changes the language in the system
settings application, the phone will hang after a reboot.
In any case, he will see the spinning circle of friends logo but the Unity8
dash will never appear.

Here's the link to his first forum post regarding it issue. The discussion
continues on the next few pages:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/rom-ubuntu-touch-14-10-utopic-unico-t2324683/post57093935#post57093935

He's running build #10 in the stable Ubuntu RTM channel.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1406712] Re: NetworkManager crashes every few hours with Lubuntu 14.04.1, removing applet from lxpanel.

2014-12-31 Thread Uwe Lück
A first line saying that I often restart NM by nm-applet seems to have
been removed from my expanded report, below heading.

Crashes seem to be accompanied with

(nm-applet:6848): GLib-CRITICAL **: Source ID 107 was not found when
attempting to remove it

as in http://askubuntu.com/questions/506824/nm-applet-does-not-work-
ubuntu-14-04. I tried their advice to

sudo apt-get install --reinstall network-manager

which seemed to change something … not sure, maybe a new strange message
appeared instead. I don't want to follow their GNOME-related ideas with
Lubuntu, and I think nothing is wrong with the fallback message after
nm-applet .

Maybe really notable:
 * occurrs with fragile mobile broadband connection
 * the installation is live persistent on USB pendrive, with modest upgradings.
I have another similar installation heavily
upgraded, it behaves similar regarding NetworkManager; I use too rarely to
report about it.

Another funny circumstance is that I have sudo rfkill block wifi in an
autostart script, but after some breakdowns of connection/nm-applet/NM,
LC_ALL=C nmcli nm status reports WIFI to be enabled, and the applet
displays available WLAN points.

NetworkManager crashes every few hours with Lubuntu 14.04.1, removing

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Sometimes I don't find any way to get it back without restarting.
  (I don't like restarting because then I must re-open
at least 5 LXTerminal tabs I use in every session.)
Sometimes I even can't use WvDial anymore after certain
NetworkManager crashes, Invalid dial command, maybe
related modem key management by NetworkManager and ...!?

Yes, I usually connect to the web by UMTS; alternatively sometimes
by LAN, rarely by WLAN. I like NetworkManager for its
notifications and its icons in the panel.

This has happened since I switched to Lubuntu 14.04.1.
With Lubuntu 12.10 and Lubuntu 13.04, there only was
the enable mobile broadband problem for which I had
  workarounds.

Sometimes nm-applet even collapses when it connects successfully.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1406735] [NEW] package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102

2014-12-31 Thread C. Jeffery Small
Public bug reported:

A few weeks ago I installed Ubuntu 10.10 server with the addition of the
xubuntu-desktop packages. Everything started out alright until i tried
to install sendmail in place of postfix. That installaton failed,
reporting a similar error:

subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 102

From there, things went from bad to worse. I was now unable to finish
the install of sendmail nor could I remove it fully and reinstall
postfix. Spamassassin seemed to be one critical package that hept
reporting errors. As I tried to install or remove packages using
synaptic, the system most of the time refused to act due to dascading
errors and partially removed packages that could not be removed, even by
force.

Today I threw up my hands and did a complete fresh install of the
system. Everything went well for the basic packages until I ran
software updater. A few packages were scheduled to be updated,
including udev and it has now faild in the exact same manner.

Could someone look at this and provide a quick reply as to what can be
done to rectify this situation. I am afraid to install or remove any
other software for fear of corrupting the system further and I currently
do not have a usable system.

Let me know if additional information is required. Thanks.

Title:
8086:2a42 [Toshiba Portégé R600-10Q] VGA output doesn't work with
  Intel GM45 chipset

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit on my Toshiba Portege
R600-10Q laptop (a model from 2009). I am now trying to display the
desktop on a BenQ Senseye3 22 monitor, via the vga output, but it's
not working - the monitor says No Signal Detected!.

  What I've done:
I have gone into Screen Display, where I can see the monitor is detected by
the laptop.
The monitor has a 1920 x 1080 native resolution, which I have tried to use,
but I have also set it to lower resolutions, e.g. 1024 x 576.
I have tried to use the monitor in dual screen, mirrored and single screen
mode - none work.
I have tried pressing Fn + F5 to get single screen output - the laptop screen
goes blank, but still no output on the monitor.
I have tried several monitors (of the same type, and also of a different
make), so I don't think it's that.

If I plug the vga cable in after boot up, then the monitor receives no
  signal.

WORKAROUND: If, and only if, the monitor was plugged in to the PC's
VGA output during boot up, then the display outputs to the monitor
  correctly.

The laptop has the Intel® GS45 Express chipset for graphics acceleration. I
installed mesa-utils and ran glxinfo in a terminal. Amongst the output was:
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset

Also, in the About This Computer window I see:
Graphics: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset

I wonder if the problem is that my chipset is GS45 not GM45.

The output of sudo lshw -C video is:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1406735] Re: package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102

2014-12-31 Thread Martin Pitt
Can you please run

  sudo sh -ex /var/lib/dpkg/info/udev.postinst configure

and copypaste the output here? At first sight it looks like it errors
out at invoke-rc.d udev restart. If it does, can you confirm that

sudo invoke-rc.d udev restart; echo $?

says 102 in the last line? Please copypaste the full output here as
well.

Do you have a policy-rc.d by any chance?

Title:
package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
A few weeks ago I installed Ubuntu 10.10 server with the addition of
the xubuntu-desktop packages. Everything started out alright until i
tried to install sendmail in place of postfix. That installaton
  failed, reporting a similar error:

subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
  status 102

From there, things went from bad to worse. I was now unable to finish
the install of sendmail nor could I remove it fully and reinstall
postfix. Spamassassin seemed to be one critical package that hept
reporting errors. As I tried to install or remove packages using
synaptic, the system most of the time refused to act due to dascading
errors and partially removed packages that could not be removed, even
  by force.

I am afraid to install or remove any
other software for fear of corrupting the system further and I
currently do not have a usable system.

Let me know if additional information is required. Thanks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1018520] [NEW] evince prints shifted or black pages

2014-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Evince printed pdfs shifted by about 2cm up - such that the Headline cant be
read.
I played around with the settings and now evince just prints entirely black
pages.

I switched to okular which works.

Please tell me if I can provide additional information. Printer is a
OfficeJet 6500. The shifting also occurs on a LaserJet.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 987167] Re: unable to set gnome-keyring key timeout (SSH and GPG keys)

2014-12-31 Thread Hans Deragon
Still present in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Thar. It used to be
configurable IIRC. Why the regression?

Workaround:

Edit ${HOME}/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf

Add:

default-cache-ttl 86400 # default-cache-ttl in secondes, here
representing 24 hours.

Logout for this to take effect.

Status in gnome-keyring package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am unable to set the timeout values for any particular GPG key. The
default seems to be for the entire session.
I have installed seahorse package to help configure. For my particular
case, I am using KMyMoney which uses a GPG key to lock the database. I created
a personal key entry in seahorse, and used it to lock the database. However, I
am only prompted for the passphrase if I log out of my session completely. I
wish to configure this such that it times out after 10 minutes (for example).

Bug #645561 seems to be similar case, though I could not find a
  solution given that fix.

I am using 12.04 with gnome shell.

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1370014] Re: Remmina Launching Remote Sessions Larger than Workspace

2014-12-31 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
** Description changed:

Please view this video of the bug I'm reporting:
  http://youtu.be/wKGLff7HhS8
+
+ To reproduce this bug, you will have to Enable Workspaces In Ubuntu
+ Unity, like this:
+
+ System Settings Appearance Behavior Enable Workspaces

Essentially, when using the Unity desktop in a Multiple Monitor setup
(using workspaces), Remmina is launching remote sessions into a window
larger than the workspace to which I'm launching it.

Another thing to note about my set up, is that I do use Ubuntu's scaling
feature to make things about 10% larger than the default size (to
accommodate my otherwise straining eyes). Some times I use large text
too. These facts may be totally unrelated to the bug, but I thought I
  would at least mention them.

  I'm using a fully update Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop 64bit.

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.04 fully updated.

On a recent update, the launcher auto-hide suddenly broke. When it
hides, it leaves a white bar along the left edge of my window, masking
out any other windows lying beneath. It does reveal properly when I
move my mouse over to the left side, and rehides when I remove the
mouse, but the white bar remains.

At the same moment, the Dash Home stopped working. It's present on
the launcher, but when I either click on it or use the Windows key,
all I get is the close/minimize/maximize bar showing on the top
(though the min max are half mushed together). If I use the Win key
and type in a program name with cr, it does launch the program
correctly, but I can't see anything while I'm typing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1406140] Re: lightdm 1.12 breaks config semantics for multiple X servers

2014-12-31 Thread Eric Levy
** Description changed:

Previously lightdm.conf would allow configuration of multiple instances
of the the display manager across multiple instances of the X server,
using [Seat:num] section headers. These semantics could be used for
multiseat setup as well as for using different virtual terminals to
  switch between X servers.

Newer versions of lightdm ignore [Seat:num] sections. Multiseat
configuration was changed to be more explicit, but no indication was
given of how simply to configure multiple display manager instances
bound to different X server instances.

Unless newer versions support undocumented features, it would appear
that the functionality of lightdm has regressed.

This regression appears when Ubuntu release is upgraded to 14.10 from
- 14.04 or earlier. The regression in confirmed in lightdm
+ 14.04 or earlier. The regression is confirmed in lightdm
  1.12.1-0ubuntu1.

The same trouble in Kubuntu.
It happens when bluetooth headset is disconnected by putting them to charge.
On Kubuntu 13.10 this problem never showed up.

Actually PulseAudio Sound System KDE Routing Policy is display in

Maybe the xdg file should be put by a separate package that will be
install only on KDE environment ? Should I open a new bug for this ?

  Nvidia 340.24 Ubuntu 14.04.1 GTX 550Ti

Let's say that I'm scrolling through web page in firefox. It's not redrawing
so I have to drag window for it to redraw.
Another example: I'm in Ubuntu Tweak, just toggled some stuff but it's not
showing button change. I have to drag window off screen to properly redraw.
Another example: Nautilus, I'm scrolling but it's not showing that it's
scrolling. Again need to move window off screen and back to see changes.
Another one: I'm writing right now and when I press Enter nothing happens, I
have to press it again but cursor goes two rows down. Oh and now word rows is
still in previous line with cursor so I have one ghost cursor and one in front.

  I think it's understandable now.

I have this bug since 14.04 alpha, I though it's some dev crap and
just made switch to Arch. Since 14.04.1 you have nice Vsync so I'm
  back.

My guess: Someone at Cannonical tried to implement reuse screen
  contents from Kwin but failed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 798414] [NEW] update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2014-12-31 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

When generating a new initramfs there is no check for available free
space, subsequently its possible for update-initramfs to fail due to a
lack of free space. This is resulting in package installation failures
for initramfs-tools. For example:

Setting up initramfs-tools (0.98.8ubuntu3) ...
update-initramfs: deferring update (trigger activated)
Processing triggers for initramfs-tools ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-8-generic

gzip: stdout: No space left on device
E: mkinitramfs failure cpio 141 gzip 1
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.38-8-generic
dpkg: error processing initramfs-tools (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

WORKAROUND:

Remove unused kernels using computer janitor or manually free space on
your partition containing the /boot file system.

  Incomplete

Bug description:
A few weeks ago I installed Ubuntu 10.10 server with the addition of
the xubuntu-desktop packages. Everything started out alright until i
tried to install sendmail in place of postfix. That installaton
  failed, reporting a similar error:

subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
  status 102

From there, things went from bad to worse. I was now unable to finish
the install of sendmail nor could I remove it fully and reinstall
postfix. Spamassassin seemed to be one critical package that hept
reporting errors. As I tried to install or remove packages using
synaptic, the system most of the time refused to act due to dascading
errors and partially removed packages that could not be removed, even
  by force.

I am afraid to install or remove any
other software for fear of corrupting the system further and I
currently do not have a usable system.

Let me know if additional information is required. Thanks.

Follow up:

I was curious to see what the exit status of the udev.postinst command
was, so I ran it again and here is what happened this time!

So what's up with that? I did nothing to the system between invocations
other than run the invoke-rc.d udev restart; echo $? command.

Now, I appear to have another problem in that mdadm has now been
excluded from the boot file. The root filesystem is indeed mirrored, so
I must rebuild this with mdadm. This is a procedure that i am
unfamiliar with. I will research it. However, if you can suggest the
proper steps to take, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1406735] Re: package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102

2014-12-31 Thread C. Jeffery Small
PPS:

OK, I misunderstood the messages regarding mdadm. It is complaning
about an array that is NOT related to booting, but gets mounted through
fstab. At first I though that it was implying that the
/etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file was corrupted and that support for mdadm had
been eliminated from /boot/initrd.img-3.16.0-28-generic. The root and
swap arrays are properly defined, so all is well. I'll add the
additional array to mdadm.conf for completeness.

Something restarts cups every morning, and I don't know what is it.
This is a big problem for us, because every month we have to print a very big
print job (thousands of pages), so we launch the printing in the evening, put
new paper in the printer the next morning, and expect the job continues. But
the job restarts from the beginning.
I sent a /var/log/cups/error_log file to cups.org and this is their answer :

Well, the main problem is the daily CUPS restart at 07:36. This stops all
jobs; the scheduler starts all not yet completed jobs from the beginning.
BTW, your system seems not to do a well behaved restart, as the messages
Scheduler shutting down normally and Savinf job cache file ... are
  missing in your error_log.
As I have no Ubuntu system available to look into, I do not know how the
restart is scheduled - I suggest to look into the documentation regarding
system administration or ask for more info in the various Ubuntu forums.

  I post in the forum

I found this bug because I was seeing AppArmor entries in my daily

I believe this is being caused by the daily Cups restart this bug is

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1406834] [NEW] lightdm spawning X servers at high rate on secondary seat in multiseat setup

2014-12-31 Thread Schlomo Schapiro
Public bug reported:

OS:
XUbuntu 14.10 amd64 with all updates installed.

Scenario:
Using a multiseat setup with 2 graphics cards.

Problem:
User on non-primary seat (seat-1) uses xscreensaver to lock screen
(light-locker not working correctly). When the screen is in power saving mode
lightdm tries to spawn an extra X server at a rate of about 20 per second,
apparently to show the greeter which would be used to unlock the session.

  Scenario:
Using a multiseat setup with 2 graphics cards.

  Problem:
User on non-primary seat (seat-1) uses xscreensaver to lock screen

lightdm tries to spawn an extra X server at a rate of about 20 per second,
apparently to show the greeter which would be used to unlock the session.

Title:
Acquire::http::ProxyAutoDetect is executed multiple times for each
  host

Status in APT:
  New
Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
For each host that is involved in an update/ installation, APT executes the
command set in Acquire::http::ProxyAutoDetect. On a default installation, sudo
apt-get update executed the command twice because archive.ubuntu.com and
security.ubuntu.com are both mentioned in /etc/apt/sources.conf. As PPAs are
commonly used, this increases to three.
With a lot of third-party repository sources, this number rises a lot. If the
proxy detection command is slow, there might be a delay during the source lists
updates and package installations.

  Affected versions:
  0.8.13.2ubuntu4.1 (Ubuntu Natty)
  0.7.25.3ubuntu9.5 (Ubuntu Lucid)
  0.8.15.2 (Debian unstable)

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Create /etc/apt/print-message containing:
  #!/bin/sh
  echo CALLED 2
  2. Create /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/30proxy-test containing:
  Acquire::http::ProxyAutoDetect /etc/apt/print-message;
  3. Run sudo apt-get update or install a PPA package which depends on a
package from the official repos which is not installed yet
  4. Clean up by removing /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/30proxy-test and
/etc/apt/print-message

  What I expected to happen:
  CALLED should be printed once

  What happened instead:
CALLED is printed a few times for each involved host.

There is a C API in libsystemd-login for receiving notifications, see
sd_login_monitor_new(3). It is not working in the Utopic version of
systemd, because it attempts to access /run/systemd/machines which
  does not exist on utopic.

I see a patch to fix this in the older, Trusty Tahr version of systemd
  (http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
  branches/ubuntu/trusty/systemd/trusty/view/head:/debian/patches/login-
monitor-no-machine.patch). The patch isn't in the utopic systemd
  (208-8ubuntu8).

I tracked down an issue in NetworkManager which I believe was due to
this issue. Attached is a C program to demonstrate.

apt-get update, but I'm still not able to download the indexes.

There need to be a timeout (20s) and retry (many). Even looking up
must have retries. There need to be a check for changed index files.

Then the goal was to issue sudo apt-get upgrade and then upgrade to
14.04 beta. With this I haven't succeded yet.
