[Touch-packages] [Bug 1349128] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 lock screen doesn't accept keyboard input and sends it back to the underlying window (until using indicators)
** Changed in: unity Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1349128 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 lock screen doesn't accept keyboard input and sends it back to the underlying window (until using indicators) Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in Unity 7.2 series: Fix Released Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: After upgrading to Unity version 7.2.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1 on Trusty, the lockscreen sometimes fails to take the keyboard focus away from Chrome. This might happen if there's a text selection in Chrome, and also when resuming after suspend. It doesn't always happen, as this is a race condition, but it's easy to reproduce by selecting the location bar in Chrome and then locking the screen. Workaround: click on any indicator in the upper right corner, and close the menu. After that, keyboard input is sent to the lockscreen again. ** Changed in: unity Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1349281 Title: The exposed open windows are not displayed in the geometric order Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in Unity 7.2 series: In Progress Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: [ Impact ] When multiple non-maximised windows of the same program are open and one clicks on the icon of the program in the launcher, they are all shown one next to each other but in an unexpected, difficult-to- predict order: windows that are in the top-left corner of the workspace can be shown in the exposé in the right bottom position or on the left bottom corner. This makes very hard to switch between similarly looking windows like terminals. [ Test Case ] * launch four or so terminal windows; * write something different on each of them to be able to tell them apart; * move each window to a different corner, possibly using the auto-resizing feature of Unity; * click on the terminal icon in the launcher; * many terminal windows are displayed; * choose the thumbnail in the right-top corner; * very likely a window that was in another corner has been selected; * try again various time and realize how confusing this all is. [ Potential Regressions ] An invalid ordering calculation might still position windows in the exposé in unexpected ways. This is not a serious regression and has not been observed under production situations. [ Additional Info ] The Ubuntu 14.04 LTS SRU was cherry-picked from upstream Unity as released in Ubuntu 14.10 where it demonstrated stability under daily use. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1420889] [NEW] Desktop fails to load after login (displays tiled backgrounds)
Public bug reported: Was originally running 14.04-desktop in a VmWare Fusion v5-Pro guest. Ran fine for quite a while. A certain update a few months ago introduced an issue where I could no longer log in graphically. The guest console would present a normal login after boot, but attempting to log in causes the screen to display a tiled background and a failure to present any UI components. Ssh access remains accessible, so it seems to be purely a graphical desktop problem. Anyway, I have since tried many things, including ensuring I had the latest updates, reinstalling unity, upgrading to 14.10, and upgrading Fusion to v7-Pro. The result is exactly the same. I will attach a screenshot. To be fair, I do not know for sure this is a unity bug. But it is my best guess. Yes, it's short, but you could take a picture or even rm -rf / if there happened to be a root console available. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1375271] Re: desktop or other past screen contents visible before lockscreen on resume
** Changed in: unity Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1375271 Title: desktop or other past screen contents visible before lockscreen on resume Status in GNOME Screensaver: Invalid Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in Unity 7.2 series: In Progress Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in unity source package in Trusty: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] On resume from suspend, screen contents are displayed for a brief time (perhaps 0.5 to 1 sec) before the lock dialog appears. These screen contents are not always the desktop or open application beneath the lock screen. On at least one occasion, the screen showed content from a full-screen video that had been playing in Firefox some time before the computer had been suspended: neither the video nor its underlying tab were open anymore, so the image(s) was likely part of a buffer somewhere. (Needless to say, if the wrong full-screen video had been watched, depending on the setting, this could be a quite serious issue for some users). [Test Case] Suspend and resume the computer (closing the lid or using the session indicator). Since this problem involves a race condition, it is not reliably reproducable at will. [Regression Potential] This fix unmaps windows when a suspend or shutdown event occurs: it is possible that the window(s) do not get remapped when a wake event occurs, or the wake even does not get propagated. This does not appear to occur in practice. This is a regression after updating unity from version 6.2.0-0ubuntu4 to 6.4.0-0ubuntu1. Steps to reproduce: Make sure that launcher is set to autohide and it's not visible. 1. Open dash pressing Super 2. Notice that the launcher background is not blurred. This happens only when dash is opened pressing Super button. If launcher happens to be visible prior to opening dash, for example opening dash from BFB, the launcher background is blurred properly. If you open dash by using lens shortcuts (Super+F for example), the launcher background is blurred correctly most of the time. Also, if the launcher background has no blur and you click something with your mouse inside dash, the launcher background gets blurred. I think this is somehow related to bug 1044926 because the launcher background is never blurred if the dash is shown before the launcher. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1420430] [NEW] Disconnect menu item in network-manager taskbar tool is inactive when connected to network
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When connected to a network (via ethernet), I am not able to disconnect using the network menu in the top taskbar. The Disconnect menu item is not highlighted. The Connection Name is highlighted, but I don't need to click it because I'm already connected to it. If I click the Connection Name, it connects again, but still does not highlight the Disconnect option. So to disconnect, I have to go to System Settings - Network, and click on the toggle. That does work. It's just the taskbar connection manager that is malfunctioning. I have tried restarting, and the problem persists. This happened after I updated software this morning using Update Manager. I installed the updated Unity Greeter that puts network status on the login screen and updates wifi and mobile. However, if the two front-most windows are from the same application, then alt- tab will switch between these windows instead, instead of moving to the second-front-most application. Hence, in this case, alt-tab duplicates the action of alt-`. Here is an example: 1) create the stack with two nautilus windows at the top, e.g. Nautilus window 1 (N1), Nautilus window 2 (N2), and Firefox window (F1) (but you can use any applications). Create the stack either by [clicking F1, N2, N1] or [switching to Nautilus with alt-tab, then alt-` to the other Nautilus window]. 2) Tap alt-tab. What happens: I switch to the other nautilus window. What I expected: to switch to the other application (i.e. Firefox). Can you resubmit/recheck this patch against 10.10 and bump version to 10.11? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to eglibc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1020210 Title: Race condition using ATOMIC_FASTBINS in _int_free causes crash or heap corruption Status in Embedded GLIBC: Fix Released Status in eglibc package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in eglibc source package in Precise: In Progress Bug description: [Impact] * This bug is likely to cause a crash with a SEGV in multithreading applications doing many memory deallocations with ATOMIC_FASTBINS feature enabled. [Test Case] * Since this is a race condition issue there is no simple path of reproducing it, however one could try to follow the instructions in the upstream bug (https://www.sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=15073): https://www.sourceware.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=7331 [Regression Potential] * This issue has been merged upstream with no further issues reported. [Other Info] * Original bug description: We have an application which makes heavy allocation and de-allocation demands from multiple threads. We run this application continuously on many servers, and once every several CPU months or years, we were getting a crash in _int_free that did not look like vanilla heap corruption. I believe I have narrowed it down to a race condition in _int_free due to the ATOMIC_FASTBINS feature. Basically, in the lockless FASTBIN _int_free path, a chunk is pulled into a local variable with the intent to add it to the fastbins list. However, the heap consolidation/trim code can race with this, and can coalesce the entire block and/or give it back to the OS before _int_free has a chance to try and store it into the fastbins list. The problem is very challenging to reproduce in situ, but using gdb I have a recipe which demonstrates the crash 100% of the time on my 12.04 x64 system running eglibc 2.15. It relies on malloc_trim, although in our in situ data, the consolidation is triggered as a result of a normal free. malloc_trim is just easier to control. While I am not a glibc developer, I could not see any easy ways to fix the situation shy of disabling ATOMIC_FASTBINS. I am attaching the reproduction source. Other pertinent information follows: jpieper@calculon:~/downloads$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 jpieper@calculon:~/downloads$ apt-cache policy libc6 libc6: Installed: 2.15-0ubuntu10 Candidate: 2.15-0ubuntu10 Version table: *** 2.15-0ubuntu10 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What I expect: I expect the attached application, when run using the gdb script in the comments, to complete with no failures. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1131385] Re: Always on top prevents application spread from working
** Changed in: unity Milestone: 7.3.1 = 7.3.2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1131385 Title: Always on top prevents application spread from working Status in Ayatana Design: Invalid Status in Compiz: Invalid Status in Unity: In Progress Status in unity package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Consider you have many windows of the same type open. One method of switching between them is clicking the launcher icon which reveals the application spread. Now you can choose between the windows. This is how it should be. However, the design idea was, if the windows are marked Always on Top there is no need for an application spread, as they are always on top. This is a bug and needs to be changed, because it does not consider minimized windows and therefore prevents switching to those windows. If you have windows of the same application open, some of them minimized and ALL non-minimized windows are marked as Always on top, the application spread does not work anymore, clicking the launcher does nothing. Whether the minimized windows are marked always on top or not does not matter. So the simplest way to reproduce this bug would be: 1.) Open two windows of the same application. 2.) Minimize one and mark the other (non-minimized) as Always on top. 3.) Try to switch to the minimized window using application spread To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/1131385/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[ Test Case ] Requires a display with 2x UI scaling (works best with a high-DPI display). The fade-to-black which occurs prior to the screen shutting off only covers the top left quarter of the screen. When scaling is set to 1x, the entire screen fades to black.
