[Touch-packages] [Bug 1447839] Re: Support dynamic mouse cursor icons
There are two distinct tasks involved on the Mir side: 1. Forward cursor requests from Unity8 clients to USC (in general, from nested clients to host servers). Support for this was recently added to lp:mir (r2515). 2. Enable Unity8 handle input in relation to windows, grab handles etc. Although this should be doable with what released versions of Mir currently offer, the new window management interface should make it more straightforward. Failing to include this driver in the initramfs causes regressions for users who need to interact with the system in early boot using a USB keyboard, such as users with an encrypted root filesystem. Such systems are not bootable with this host driver missing. [Test case] 1. On an affected system, reboot to a kernel from 13.04. 2. Install the initramfs-tools package from -proposed. 3. Reboot to the kernel from 13.10. 4. Verify that you are able to type your passphrase at the prompt in the initramfs. [Regression potential] Minimal. The update-initramfs script will ignore missing modules (such as the many other modules in the list which are built-ins), and the only change made is to copy the module into the initramfs: it will only be loaded in the initramfs if udev determines it's needed, just as it would load it after switching to the root filesystem. Is the same problem as here but in the new ubuntu 13.10 saucy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1066376 I just can't use (i can install) a encrypted partition because when is time to introduce the password to unlock partition keyboard is not working. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1448917] Re: apt-get -o quiet=1 dist-upgrade isn't quiet anymore
Sorry if my previous comment came across as rude, it wasn't intended as such. It was just meant as a quick reply (I was in a hurry) to clear up what is the topic of this bug as incomplete reports aren't actionable. (An incomplete bug isn't necessarily the fault of the bugreporter as someone can hardly think of everything and/or an important fact to know for upstream isn't obvious to someone who isn't deeply involved with the package in question. So, no critic meant either.) So, with my apt upstream hat, I am reassigning to dpkg even through I know that this is caused by a change in apt, but the problem is that dpkg has a non-overrideable check for terminal output or not (and because as mentioned apt quiet option never influenced dpkg. Otherwise quiet=2 wouldn't have output at all, but what it does is in fact reduce the output to mostly just dpkg output). The apt change in question is that dpkg is properly called in (most) cases in a pseudo-terminal, so it's looking always like dpkg is running in a terminal. We need this in apt to be able to log the output (term.log) as well as show the output of dpkg (and subsequently programs called by it like debconf) correctly. See e.g. debbug #765687. The 1.0.9.x versions contain various fixes (and fixes of fixes) in this regard. You can tell apt to not use a pseudo-terminal for dpkg with -o Dpkg::Use-Pty=0 , but that carries all the disadvantages I mentioned earlier and more and is therefore not advised. ** Package changed: apt (Ubuntu) = dpkg (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1448917 Title: apt-get -o quiet=1 dist-upgrade isn't quiet anymore Status in dpkg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Description: Ubuntu 15.04 Release: 15.04 apt: Installed: 1.0.9.7ubuntu4 Candidate: 1.0.9.7ubuntu4 Version table: *** 1.0.9.7ubuntu4 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Current: Until updating from Utopic to Vivid apt-get with command line parameter -o quiet 1 did not output the progress as formatted text. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1408110] Re: [XPS13 9333, Realtek ALC3661, Speaker, Internal] fails after a while
Since upgrading to 15.04, I still experience inconsistent behaviour in the sound system. Sometimes, the system does not detect the speakers at all on boot-up. At other times, the Sound panel shows the HDMI sound in the Settings for Speakers section (although this can be corrected by clicking on the Speakers in the Play Sound Through box. Currently (under 15.04), plugging in headphones no longer brings up the dialogue box requesting to know what device was plugged into the headphone socket (Stereo Headphones, Headset with microphone or microphone alone). The Headphones appear in the Play Sound Through listing and disappear when the headphones are removed. The sound is directed from the speakers to the headphones if the latter are plugged in. However, now (under 15.04) it is possible to select the Speakers for the sound output even when the headphones are plugged in. This was certainly not the case under 14.10 where the headphones had priority as though the headphone socket was hard wired. I have just tried plugging a mono microphone in the headphone socket. This causes the headphones to appear in the Play Sound Through box. Unfortunately, the sound has now gone crackly and is not responding to a change of volume control keys. A reboot seems to be called for. When playing sound from a Video (using the Videos app), the sound can become crackly although it can be restored to normal by exercising the volume control keys (F11 F12) up and down. If this fails and the sound disappears altogether, it is necessary to reboot although this does not work every time and several reboots are required to restore the sound to normal. If I use the Volume Control app's Configuration tab to set the Built-in Audio option to Off, the Speakers in the Sound app show Settings for HDMI / DisplayPort Mode as Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output. By clicking on the Speakers in the Play Sound Through box, the Settings for Speakers are restored with the Test Sound button appearing. The Built-in Audio Profile changes from Off to Analogue Stereo Output. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1408110 Title: [XPS13 9333, Realtek ALC3661, Speaker, Internal] fails after a while Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When playing a video via the Videos app, the sound through the internal speakers develops crackles and sometimes disappears completely. I collected the data for the bug report at the instance that the sound had failed. Using the Sound panel in Systems Settings to test the sound produces no response. I have also selected the Volume Control app and attempted to switch the sound using the Configuration tab and switching the built-in audio between Off and Analogue Stereo Output. Sometimes this works and sometimes is does not. Having left the Videos app running whist typing this, I have noticed that the sound seems to start and stop whilst typing via the keyboard. I note that the Playback tab in the Volume Control window shows that the sound is being produced by the Videos app (the lower ribbon moves with the sound amplitude). This bug might be associated with intermittent recognition of the hardware on startup. The Sound window sometimes shows no audio device. At other times, the speakers are given the HDMI menu dropdown but this can be corrected by plugging in a pair of headphones and switching back to the speakers which then show the correct Test Sound legend. I have noticed several instances of the sound cutting out and cutting back in whilst typing this report as if the interrupts from the keyboard strokes are interrupting the sound connection. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1219337] Re: Users can change the clock without authenticating, allowing them to locally exploit sudo.
Congratulations, Ubuntu team. You have now fallen behind *Debian's Stable Release* in a security update to sudo, despite several releases in between. They even released their newest (24 month development cycle) in the same month as you. This has been fixed, *fully fixed*, for over a year now. Epic fail. mscs@water:~$ sudo -V Sudo version 1.8.10p3 Sudoers policy plugin version 1.8.10p3 Sudoers file grammar version 43 Sudoers I/O plugin version 1.8.10p3 mscs@water:~$ https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=sudo https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sudo -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to sudo in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1219337 Title: Users can change the clock without authenticating, allowing them to locally exploit sudo. Status in Cinnamon: New Status in sudo: Unknown Status in Unity: Invalid Status in policykit-desktop-privileges package in Ubuntu: Opinion Status in sudo package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Under unity and cinnamon, it is possible for a user to turn off network-syncronized time and then change the time on the system. It is also possible to cat /var/log/auth.log and find the last time a user authenticated with sudo, along with which pty they used. If a user had used a terminal and successfully authenticated with sudo anytime in the past, and left the sudo file in /var/lib/sudo/username/, a malicious user could walk up to an unlocked, logged in machine and gain sudo without knowing the password for the computer. To do this, a user would only need to launch a few terminals, figure out which pty they were on via tty, find the an instance in /var/log/auth.log where sudo was used on that PTY, and set the clock to that time. Once this is done, they can run (for example) sudo -s and have a full access terminal. 1) This has been observed on Ubuntu 13.04, and may work on other versions. 2) This may have an effect on various window managers, but I confirmed it on Unity and Cinnamon 3) I expected to have to authenticate when I changed the time and date, as I do on Gnome and KDE. I also expected to be denied permission to auth.log 4) I was able to change the system time to whatever I wanted, and view auth.log. This was sufficient to access sudo without having to type my password. Note: This bug also affects any version of OS X, though the mechanism is different. Some versions don't require you to authenticate to change the time through the GUI, but some do. No version I've seen requires authentication to use the systemsetup command, which can alter the time from the command line. This may be an overall bug in sudo. Why can I bypass security by changing the time?! Regression potential: Very low: We don't use systemctl isolate during regular operation, and more elaborate commands like systemctl isolate rescue.target are currently broken on Ubuntu anyway due to our D-Bus shutdown hack. Even though it is strange to see variants consisting mostly of VoidSymbols Hi, thank you very much. Yes, I would agree. The Baybayin script is alphasyllabry so it is always CV-CV, then other vowels are represented by use of a diacritical mark resulting to just 18 base glyphs only. Initially I did not include VoidSymbols but I noticed that if it is left empty, the system checks the next upper keyboard in the list and producing the character there first. 1: Latin = Key1234 produces A 2: Baybayin = Key1234 is empty If pressing Key1234 in Baybayin will produce the letter A from the Latin layout. I opted instead to hardcode VoidSymbols to avoid it. From what I understand, it was intentional? Anyway, I guess that's for another thread / ticket. Thank you again! SRU TEST CASE: == - Prepare a system which uses ifupdown (e. g. a standard adt-buildvm-ubuntu-cloud VM) - Start it, run sudo systemctl default - With vivid final's systemd, this will stop ifup@eth0.service and hence shut down eth0. ssh and other network connections will stop. - With this fix, ifup@eth0.service and eth0 should stay running/up. Regression potential: Very low: We don't use systemctl isolate during regular operation, and more elaborate commands like systemctl isolate rescue.target are currently broken on Ubuntu anyway due to our D-Bus shutdown hack.
