  ubuntu-server daily iso - Upon installation, /etc/network/interfaces

Bug description:
  Hello.

I've installed today from the Ubuntu Server Daily ISO. During the
installer process, we get the system identifying network interfaces
with the traditional unpredictable naming algorithms of eth##. After
installation, the system uses systemd to identify network interface
  names, per

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/PredictableNetworkInterfaceNames/

In the Virtual Environment i'm using, on VMware Workstation x64 with
two virtual NICs, I end up with ens33 and ens34 according to the
  installed system.

However, the installer populated the /etc/network/interfaces
configuration with eth0 and eth1. As a result, networking fails to
start up after a reboot, and either /etc/network/interfaces needs
edited to match the correct identifiers and a reboot issued, or one
has to do `sudo dhclient` to update the IP address. For static
addressing networks, of course, you still need to revise the
  interfaces file.

This is a serious issue, as upon installation via the ubuntu-server
ISO, networking will fail to come up, leaving users to scratch their
  head expecting instant access.

Due to an uncertainty in the severity, I've set it to High given that
last point. Please feel free to change it. Note that this is filed
against both systemd and netcfg as I am not sure which one needs to be
  fixed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1473643] [NEW] Enable switching to full desktop sites

2015-07-11 Thread zubozrout
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1377033 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1377033

Public bug reported:

Hello,
this is more like a feature request. I've just noticed that on desktop Ubuntu
Web Browser is now loading full desktop sites, which is great. I expect it is
just a matter of changing useragents (although there may be more to it). On the
other hand on my tablet it is still showing mobile sites - which you may want
to change from time to time.

I suppose the default behaviour on phones and tablets should be to load
mobile sites as it is now but - could you please add a switcher in the
menu to demand for full desktop version of websites?

In addition it would be great to include a button in the bowser's
settings so that browser would permanently ask for desktop sites if user
wants it. On bigger devices that would certainly be relevant.

(and on the other hand you may want to display a mobile version of any
website on desktop for testing purposes so a vice versa would be great
as well)

What do you think? How do you think it should be implemented?

** Affects: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1473624] [NEW] Installing apport on headless vivid machine results in hanging systemd

2015-07-11 Thread Alexander List
Public bug reported:

I have installed ubuntu-15.04-server amd64 in a VM, selecting multiple
server install with MAAS (to set up a standalone MAAS) using virt-
manager.

Trying to report a bug, I installed apport.

This pulled in several dependencies, but ended up hanging at systemd
install:

Trying apt-get -f install didn't help either:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1473542] Re: ubuntu-server daily iso - Upon installation, /etc/network/interfaces not populated with correct network interface names, so networking fails to start

2015-07-11 Thread Martin Pitt
I was about to say, missing ifnames in udeb. Thanks Adam! I'll commit
the fixes to Debian.

  ubuntu-server daily iso - Upon installation, /etc/network/interfaces
not populated with correct network interface names, so networking

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Note that this is filed
against both systemd and netcfg as I am not sure which one needs to be
  fixed.

Under some circumstances it's possible to have the phone locked, with
some of the numbers for pin-unlock being off-screen, and thus
  untouchable. See screenshot.

In this instance it's impossible to unlock the phone if your pin
  contains those off-screen digits.

The way out is to Emergency call to trigger the dialer app which
rotates the phone back to portrait or reboot the phone.

The shell should probably rotate in lock screen and the digits should
be on screen when in landscape.

  How to reproduce:
   * Open an app which can rotate
   * Rotate the phone to landscape
   * Open the app spread
   * Press the lock button while the app spread is open

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1377033] Re: [Browser] Ability to switch to the desktop mode (desktop version)

2015-07-11 Thread zubozrout
I've just noticed that on desktop Ubuntu Web Browser is now loading full
desktop sites, which is great. I expect it is just a matter of changing
useragents (although there may be more to it). On the other hand on my
tablet it is still showing mobile sites - which you may want to change
from time to time.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1473562] Re: Too many crash files kill the device

Title:
Too many crash files kill the device

Status in Canonical System Image:
  New
Status in apport package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Tested on krillin.

  TEST CASE:
  1. adb shell to the phone and create a crash file
  $ sh -c 'kill -SEGV $$'
  2. Now create dozens
  $ for n in $(seq 50); do ln /var/crash/_bin_dash.32011.crash
/var/crash/_bin_dash_${n}.32011.crash; done
  3. Remove any upload and uploaded files that have been created and reboot
$ sudo rm /var/crash/*upload* sudo reboot

  ACTUAL RESULT
Lot of whoopsie-upload-all and apport processes are created on boot, consume
all the resources of the system and make the phone unbootable or partially
functional. OOM killer kills random system tasks such as upstart. Depending on
the processes killed, the phone hangs on boot, reboots, dash doesn't come up...

The number of crashes in this test is a bit excessive but we can
imagine a scenario where a dozen of crash files are not uploaded
because the phone is on cellular data, and uploads everything when it
connects to wifi, disabling the user session.

A way to recover is to go into recovery and clean /var/crash.

  EXPECTED RESULT
crash uploads are serialized and can be uploaded only one at a time
If system resources are already low, the crash file is not uploaded.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1464994] Re: Low audio volume on Thinkpad Helix

2015-07-11 Thread Mary Sherman
Can you give me more detailed instructions on how to do this (report
upstream, search in the registry)?

I've searched preamp and pre-amp in the windows registry, but
couldn't find anything.

I'm aware of the clipping cause - I was pointing that, given that the
volume is low, raising it above 100% (which causes clipping) is the only
way to have loud enough audio.

Thanks!

Bug description:
I have a Thinkpad Helix, which I dual boot with Windows 8.x and
  Ubuntu.

The audio volume in Ubuntu is low, compared to Windows, even when the
device output is set on 100%.

For example, when I watch something, on VLC, I can increase both the
VLC volume and the device output to more than 100%, say 130% each; in
this case, I reach a volume comparable to Windows, but in this case is
  clipped.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1397885] Re: [Atheros AR9462] Bluetooth looks activated but cannot be used

2015-07-11 Thread Raphaël Jakse
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1394368 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1394368

Hello !

The patch in comment #7 seems to consider my bluetooth adapter as a AR3012 ship.
According to https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/drivers/ath3k, it seems
to be a AR3011 ship:

How to tell AR3011 and AR3012

You can use lsusb -v to check the device descriptor. If it's AR3011,
the iProduct value is 0. If it's AR3012 the iProduct value is 2.

The iProduct of by device seems to be 0, so my device seems to be a
AR3011 ship.

According to the same page, if I got it correct, the firmware to use for
AR3011 is ath3k-1.fw, not AthrBT_*.dfu and ramps_0x*_40.dfu.

Do you know how to tell ath3k to consider my device as a AR3011 ship?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1473674] [NEW] apt fails a test from the testsuite on ppc64el when built with gcc-5 and -O3

2015-07-11 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

to reproduce:

 - wily chroot
 - PPA https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/landing-016/
(this holds gcc-5 as the default, branch 20150711).
 - dpkg-buildpackage -B

note that explicitly using the gcc-5/g++-5 from wily doesn't show the
test failure. the only difference in the configuration is that the one
in wily is built using the old libstdc++ ABI and the one in the PPA with
the dual ABI defaulting to new/c++11.

building with -O2 instead of -O3 works around the issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1468027] Re: change default CJK fonts to Noto CJK

2015-07-11 Thread tomoe_musashi
I agree that using 69-language-selectors-*.conf is more flexible IF ubuntu
resulted to use Regional Subset OTF instead of Super OTC.
We should not fallback a sans-serif font to serif.
Also, they provide fixed width font for regular and bold weight font start from
1.002, as known as Source Han Sans HW or Noto Sans Mono CJK.
As their monospace fonts(english letters) are designed for SHS/Noto, i don't
see the point to fallback DejaVu Sans Mono.

But for Chinese and Japanese community, i think that the answer is clear.
noto-cjk is definitely better what we had before, like fonts- wqy and
fonts-droid.
Android community had received these complains for years, finally they got
them fixed on lollipop.
Fedora also set it as default chinese font start from F21.
and of course, i still hope that ubuntu could drop those 69-language-selector
fontconfig files, just like what F13 did.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1440583] Re: calendar-app is generating invalid RECUR values in RRULE property

2015-07-11 Thread Gary.Wang
For event occurs once, we can see warning info in
~/.local/share/evolution/calendar/system/calendar.ics
X-LIC-ERROR;X-LIC-ERRORTYPE=VALUE-PARSE-ERROR:Can't parse as RECUR value
in RRULE property. Removing entire property: ERROR: No Value

Reason for this is because for event occurs once, we assign default recurrence
rule with RecurrenceRule.Invalid to this event.Basically, recurrenceRules for
nonrepeating event should be an empty array in this case.
App bug, unrelated to qtorganizer5-eds, which works fine.

  Left mouse button stops working

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
This problem has plagued me for a few years across different laptops
and Ubuntu versions. Current I am experiencing this on a Dell Inspiron
  15z running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

It typically starts after I have used the chat or call feature in
gmail, by clicking on the phone icon in the left chat margin. I am a
Firefox user and have not tested this with chrome etc. It has not
happened if i dont install google-talkplugin so it is quite possible
that the plugin is to blame.

  Symptom
  ===
The left mouse button on all attached mice - USB , Trackpad and touch - will
not do anything however the right mouse button continues to work. This
happens to all applications and also to the desktop. The keyboard continues to
function as normal.

When this occurs , my solution is to Alt-F4 close all windows and log
out of the X session. When I re-login the left mouse button works as
  normal.

This is an irritant and work disruptor as I have to save all browser and
desktop applications to safe state before I logout to reset the mouse. I will
appreciate any soltion or workaround.

It affectes Chrome and Chromium making them receive keystrokes out of

The fix applied upstream is to set sync mode to true instead of false

The Chromium bug includes quite a bunch of people affected by this
problem. It would be nice if this fix could be applied in affected
  Ubuntu releases (trusty+).

  Ubuntu 13.10
  apt 0.9.9.1~ubuntu3

'apt-get update' has started showing several warnings like the
following, even though the keys are present:

W: GPG error: http://us.archive.ubuntu.com saucy Release: The
following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is
  not available: NO_PUBKEY 40976EAF437D05B5 NO_PUBKEY 3B4FE6ACC0B21F32

'apt-key list' shows the keys in question in its output...

  pub 1024D/437D05B5 2004-09-12
uid Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key
ftpmas...@ubuntu.com
  sub 2048g/79164387 2004-09-12

  pub 4096R/C0B21F32 2012-05-11
uid Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key (2012)
ftpmas...@ubuntu.com

...and its output begins with the following:

  gpg: keyblock resource `/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//webupd8team-y-ppa-
  manager.gpg': resource limit

I see the same gpg message when I manually update/remove/add the keys
  in question. E.g.:

  $ sudo apt-key update
  gpg: keyblock resource `/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//webupd8team-java.gpg':
resource limit
  gpg: keyblock resource
`/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d//webupd8team-y-ppa-manager.gpg': resource limit
gpg: key 437D05B5: Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key
ftpmas...@ubuntu.com not changed
gpg: key FBB75451: Ubuntu CD Image Automatic Signing Key
cdim...@ubuntu.com not changed
gpg: key C0B21F32: Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key (2012)
ftpmas...@ubuntu.com not changed
gpg: key EFE21092: Ubuntu CD Image Automatic Signing Key (2012)
cdim...@ubuntu.com not changed
  gpg: Total number processed: 4
  gpg: unchanged: 4

I asked about the resource limit message on the gnupg-users mailing list...
  http://www.mail-archive.com/gnupg-users@gnupg.org/msg23300.html
Based on Werner Koch's (the dev) answer...
  http://www.mail-archive.com/gnupg-users@gnupg.org/msg23302.html
...the secure apt related programs might be making gpg use more than the
maximum number of keyrings that it can handle.
