[Touch-packages] [Bug 1429427] Re: Unexplainable time jumps in CRON
I found a matching bugreport on the rsyslog issuetracker at github. The report is about ubuntu 14.04.1 too. https://github.com/rsyslog/rsyslog/issues/315 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to rsyslog in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1429427 Title: Unexplainable time jumps in CRON Status in rsyslog package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On my main server I see unexplainable time jumps backwards in the syslog. Those jumps affect CRON. Example: Feb 10 06:48:01 nostromo CRON[20351]: (root) CMD ( /storage/exec/checkinternet.sh 2>/dev/null 1>/dev/null) Feb 10 06:49:01 nostromo CRON[20364]: (root) CMD ( /storage/exec/checkinternet.sh 2>/dev/null 1>/dev/null) Feb 10 06:50:01 nostromo CRON[20386]: (root) CMD ( /storage/exec/status-nostromo.sh >/dev/null 2>&1) Feb 7 05:40:01 nostromo CRON[20389]: (root) CMD ( /storage/exec/checkinternet.sh 2>/dev/null 1>/dev/null) Feb 10 06:50:01 nostromo CRON[20390]: (root) CMD ( /storage/exec/checkinternet.sh 2>/dev/null 1>/dev/null) Feb 10 06:50:01 nostromo CRON[20391]: (root) CMD ( /storage/exec/checkip.sh 2>/dev/null 1>/dev/null) For debugging I did the following: Start xclock and watch xclock and tail -f /var/log/syslog in parallel. When CRON logged a wrong time, xclock did NOT show any time jump but seemed to freeze for a fraction of a second. Open a screen and start a script that will once per second read the time (in unix seconds) and compare the read time with the time read a second ago. If the current time was smaller, the script would send an email with a process list from before and after the jump. The script also never detected any time jump. In summary, my current impression is that there might be a bug in CRON because no other programm seems to be able to see the "wrong" time. The server in question is syslog server for 4 servers and 3 network devices. The time jumps exclusively show in syslog entries from the local CRON instance. Not in any remote syslog entry and not in any other local syslog entry, e.g. from DHCPD, bind, tftpd, etc. etc. Also, after a reboot, things work ok for several days upto about 2 or 3 weeks. Then the "time jumps" start to occur with increasing frequency. I don't use user crontabs but maintain all jobs in /etc/crontab. I have number of jobs which are triggered every minute and another number of jobs which are triggered every 5 minutes (maybe some CRON internal counter overflow problem?). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1492570] Re: /usr/share/apport/kernel_crashdump accesses files in insecure manner
** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apport in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1492570 Title: /usr/share/apport/kernel_crashdump accesses files in insecure manner Status in Apport: In Progress Status in apport package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in apport source package in Precise: Fix Released Status in apport source package in Trusty: Fix Released Status in apport source package in Vivid: Fix Released Status in apport source package in Wily: In Progress Bug description: On Ubuntu Vivid Linux distribution upstart or SysV init invokes the program /usr/share/apport/kernel_crashdump at boot to prepare crash dump files for sending. This action is performed with root privileges. As the crash dump directory /var/crash/ is world writable and kernel_crashdump performs file access in unsafe manner, any local user may trigger a denial of service or escalate to root privileges. If symlink and hardlink protection is enabled (which should be the default for any modern system), only denial of service is possible. Problematic syscall in kernel_crashdump is: open("/var/crash/linux-image-3.19.0-18-generic.0.crash", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_TRUNC|O_LARGEFILE|O_CLOEXEC, 0666) = 30 ... open("/var/crash/vmcore.log", O_RDONLY|O_LARGEFILE|O_CLOEXEC) = 31 Thus the output file is opened unconditionally and without O_EXCL or O_NOFOLLOW. Also opening of input file does not care about links. By sym- or hardlinking from the predictable dump file name to the vmcore.log, kernel_crashdump will recursively include its own dump as logfile, thus filling the disk. This also works with symlink and hardlink protection turned on. By symlinking to other files (with symlink protection off), arbitrary files can be overwritten to gain root privileges. # lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 15.04 Release:15.04 # apt-cache policy apport apport: Installed: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.3 Candidate: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.3 Version table: *** 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.3 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid-security/main i386 Packages 2.17.2-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main i386 Packages See http://www.halfdog.net/Security/2015/ApportKernelCrashdumpFileAccessVulnerabilities/ for more information and follow the link on the bottom if you know what you are doing (user: InvitedOnly, pass: w0f63smR). -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Anyone helping to fix, analyze, mitigate, the security issue at http://www.halfdog.net/Security/2015/ApportKernelCrashdumpFileAccessVulnerabilities/ to improve security is allowed to view and use this resource. Light grey text is very difficult to read even on a white background. In some apps such as the Dekko for instance you cant read the text in the emails, such as bug reports sent from Ubuntu. In settings > accounts , you cant read the email address below each company such as Ubuntu one or Google. As Ubuntu Touch is content based I would have though text contrast would be high on the list but this is not the case. Please see Dekko example attached (taken from MX4) Also, If in the future users wish to change the white background to a picture (or another colour) this will be a big problem . I have manually changed the scope backgrounds to a light blue, lake / mountain picture and the phone looks much more interesting, but text is very dim for general reading. To be honest I think the end user should have some control over text size, colour, contrast, font etc as they do in the Unity desktop software. Please can you consider my request. Also I wonder if a scope selection system would be a good idea so you could just direct to the scope you want and not have to scroll through many scopes before reaching the one you wish to use. Note, The Today scope is improving slowly and the time for each item to show is reducing, but basically its still far too slow to be the main scope. Using alsa as default does not produce this issue. Changing the audio output to alsa produces the expected behaviour: namely, that sound is not muted or interrupted on vt change. This bug occurs when switching in and out of X with ctrl+alt+F7, ctrl+alt+F[1-6] If sound is played from the prompt in a Vt and a switch is made to another Vt it appears not to happen. However, the system upstart procedure more often fails than not: it fails by rebooting the computer. (Only around 1 time of 4 is successful.) A limited system start is (probably, always) successful: either with init=/bin/bash parameter to the kernel, or choosing the recovery boot option. (However, if I "resume" from the recovery menu, or run "exec init" in bash, then the upstart procedure is similarly unstable: it usually fails/crashes and reboots.) I checked my suspection that the video driver (nouveau) and X might be involved, but that turned out not true: the upstart procedure is similarly unstable with "nomodesetting" kernel parameter and without, booting into runlevel 3 or the default one. Perhaps, I'd like to debug the upstart procedure step-by-step to detect which step makes the system crash and reboot, but I don't know how. As concerns the timing, the moment the reboot happens can be different: it can happen rather early (when I see the message about activating the swap) or much later. If the system upstart procedure has completed successfully, then it works in a quite stable manner and doesn't crash/reboot. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1301015] Re: Networking does not restart
great... due to that "feature" i just lost a day of precious working time and had to drive almost 100 miles for nothing. following this thread to find out why /etc/init.d/networking restart not working anymore (and causing lots of unwanted effekts and in the end lost connectivity ) to find out that some people are really ignorant enough to still call this change of expected behaviour which worked very well for years and years a "feature" and "it was never intended to blahblah". --> have you guys gone crazy?? this is BULLSHIT and you should fix it right now and restore this functionality (BTW you messed up big with changed DNS syntax as well... really funny changing important stuff all the time and waste precious time of countless people who try to get stuff running... right??) 8.04 LTS worked (and still works) for years, was the most stable distro of all times in my 20 years career 12.04 LTS worked well, recently lots of problems, repositories not found, lot of manual work... not good 14.04 LTS lots of annoying problems and "features" that will drive many people away from a once good distro I would boot the people with that "extra creativity", restore reliability and make stuff working again, if you guys have a rest of decency than you say "sorry we messed this up big and we gonna fix it now" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ifupdown in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301015 Title: Networking does not restart Status in ifupdown package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In Ubuntu Server 14.04 it appears it is not possible to restart networking. Even though this is a powerfull phone moving between scopes is still laggy and slow also some auto refresh as you move to them. I would like to suggest that auto refresh takes place in the background so all scopes are ready when you flick through them. Also I wonder if a scope selection system would be a good idea so you could just direct to the scope you want and not have to scroll through many scopes before reaching the one you wish to use. Note, The Today scope is improving slowly and the time for each item to show is reducing, but basically its still far too slow to be the main scope. If you refresh say the BBC news scope it completes in a 2 seconds, the today scope still takes 10s (even after fixing the delay to show calls and texts). At this point you can hit the "X" as many times as you want and nothing happends. I would expect this dialog to stay in focus so that I can answer and close the program. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1364653] Re: Daily Recurring Events need refresh to appear when created from DayView
Renato, could you review the patch there? ** Changed in: qtorganizer5-eds (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Renato Araujo Oliveira Filho (renatofilho) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to qtorganizer5-eds in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364653 Title: Daily Recurring Events need refresh to appear when created from DayView Status in Ubuntu Calendar App: Confirmed Status in qtorganizer5-eds package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When I create a daily recurring event from the DayView that starts on that day, the EventBubble does not immediately appear on the current Day. I can swipe to go to future days, and the EventBubble appears there. If I swipe back to return to the original Day, or I go to a different view (MonthView, WeekView, etc.) the event appears. Since the EventBubble appears after re-navigating to the page in any way, this appears to be a "refreshing" problem, where the DayView isn't updated after creating a recurring event. Steps to Reproduce 1) Open the Calendar App, and go to any day on the DayView. 2) Create a recurring event starting on that day, which re-occurs daily. 3) Save the new event and return to the DayView. The EventBubble should not appear on the DayView for the current Day. Expected: The EventBubble should appear on the DayView page immediately after returning from creating the event. Both are running xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.2.0-0ubuntu10, neither has installed anything with fglrx nor catalyst in package name. On B (desktop PC), display was occasionaly garbled with small artefacts (like few pixel lines of random dots), and occasionally screen freezes, than goes blank for a second, then works normaly again for some time - but after 3-4 such cycles, display permanently freezes. Restarting lightdm through one of VT consoles helped. Some applications, like firefox, caused these problems to be more frequent. Then, as machine was frequently updated in hope of a fix, this changed, but to worse. Screen went completely garbled, mouse pointer turned to large square full of random noise, but underlying applications were probably running. VT consoles also went garbled and hard to use. Both DVI outputs were affected. On A machine display is mostly blank (though BIOS and GRUP screens are presented OK), sometimes graphical greeter (logon screen) is displayed, sometimes not. Bu in either case machine freezes and no logon is possible. Sometimes SysRq keys are working to reboot can be done, sometimes not. As this machine is equiped with swithchable graphics, when other GPU (Intel, integrated) is used display is presented ok. After upgrading Mesa packages from 10.6.3 to 11.0.0 I found that graphical logon screen does not appear, and the system freezes with black screen, non-blinking cursor and non-responding keyboard I disabled SDDM service in systemctl and could log in to text console. Then I found that 'startx' command freezes the system as well. In dpkg.log I found that Mesa packages were updated last, from v. 10.6.3 to 11.0.0. I downloaded older versions from Ubuntu pool mirror and installed them by dpkg -i. After that, GUI operation was fixed, and I re-enabled SDDM and continue using my system without more significant problems. My system is Acer 1830T, made in 2010, CPU is Core i3-380UM with integrated GPU (Westmere/Ironlake/Arrandale, reported as gen5 in Xorg.0.log). Please investigate and fix this issue.
