Title:
Sometimes url and description of the url do not match in the address
  bar

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
In the webbrowser, when entering an address url of a website in the address
bar, a list of similar webpages is provided below by auto-completion. The list
is composed of url with a description of the address.
But sometimes (and quite randomly it seems) the url address and the
description do not match at all.

Guess: It seems to happen with websites that I had removed from the history.
Actually, a website that has been suppressed from the history should not
appear in the url list no?

Scrolling on www.ceskenoviny.cz is very slow

Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Hello,
the Czech news site I am reading quite often was recently updated to a new
design and as of this update scrolling on the site gets quite tricky. On some
articles scrolling is almost impossible.

Now this is not the first site I find difficult to scroll on with an
Ubuntu's web browser unfortunately, though it is usually the case of
some heavy javascript ballast on the site I am sure.

The worst experience I am getting so far is on this article:
  http://www.ceskenoviny.cz/zpravy/francouzska-justice-obvinila-16letou-
divku-z-planovani-teroru/1379685 where scrolling is very laggy and
more or less only gets me either to the absolute top or the absolute
bottom of the article, not anywhere in the middle. Slow scrolling
  won't help the issue.

Other articles like this one http://www.ceskenoviny.cz/zpravy/ceske-
  drahy-dostaly-pokutu-150-000-kc-za-chybejici-ceniky/1380181 feels only
very laggy but not that bad from my experience.

I've been testing this on my Meizu MX4 with rc-proposed. Maybe this is
only the device issue though I doubt it.

Is there something you can do about it?
  Thank you very much.

TLDR: this is an apparmor confinement issue: on yakkety pulse audio
needs write access to /{run,dev}/shm/pulse-shm*, which is being denied
by the audio and microphone policy groups. The fix consists in
punching an additional hole in the generated apparmor profile for
  webbrowser-app.

  [Regression potential]
Low. As the fix consists in weakening the apparmor profile for
webbrowser-app, the only concerns should be security-related. The change was
ack’d by Jamie Strandboge (see comment #11 in this bug report).
It is not anticipated that this change would make the browser’s functionality
regress.

Output when changing comment is weird and badly documented

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Changing a key comment within a private key might not be something you
do on a daily basis, but it is mostly a frustrating task, since the
documentation is incomplete and wrong. In particular the man page
  says:

-c Requests changing the comment in the private and public key
files. This operation is only supported for RSA1 keys and keys stored in the
newer OpenSSH
format. The program will prompt for the file containing the
private keys, for the passphrase if the key has one, and for the new comment.

So, one gets the impression that this is not applicable to newer keys.
However bug #811125 dealt with this, and there was a commit (see [1])
that added support for basically all key types. In the case of RSA
keys one has to use the new key format though (-o), which can only be
find out with trial and error and is not documented at all.

Furthermore the output of an actual ssh-keygen run is also confusing:

  [kbabioch@antares .ssh]$ ssh-keygen -c -C "new comment" -f id_rsa -o
  Enter passphrase:
  Key now has comment '(null)'
The comment in your key file has been changed.

The output tells me that the key is now empty (null). However the
comment is correctly set, so while this works as intended, it is
  confusing to the user.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1628198] Re: No communcation with graphics card

2016-10-23 Thread madbiologist
It looks like you have upgraded from an older version of Ubuntu and were
using the proprietary NVidia driver on that older version. Is this
correct? If so, it looks like the proprietary NVidia driver was not
configured/upgraded correctly during the Ubuntu upgrade. Try installing
the proprietary NVidia driver packages again or perform a fresh Ubuntu
install. The proprietary NVidia driver packages are nvidia-340 and
nvidia-340-updates.

Title:
  4K Monitor not detected properly

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
4K monitor is not properly detected.

using xfce desktop "Display" utility, my monitor is detected as
"Goldstar Company Ltd 27" with a resolution of 3840x2160 and 60.0Hz

The actual monitor is an LG 31MU97-B Black 31" with a resolution of
  4096x2160.

I'm pretty sure the Monitor's resolution was properly detected in 15.10
(4096x2160). It was called "Goldstar Company Ltd" but
I do not recall which size was detected. (27" or 31")

I remember seeing a 4K youtube video in 15.10 and noting the black
bands on each side of the display, due to the difference between 3840
  and 4096.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1570653] Re: 4K Monitor not detected properly

2016-10-23 Thread madbiologist
Goldstar is the old name of the LG corporation.

The problem is logged in your dmesg.txt:

[ 10.609475] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* clock recovery
reached max voltage
[ 10.609494] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* clock recovery failed

This probably also causes the later:

[ 46.014534] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* channel eq failed: 5
tries
[ 46.014557] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* channel eq failed

Does this issue still occur with the latest Xenial 4.4.0-45.66 kernel?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1546373] Re: Please update to 1.11

2016-10-23 Thread Matteo Cypriani
taglib 1.11.1 has just be released, and fixes an ABI breakage, cf.
https://bugs.debian.org/839767
I plan on uploading it in sid this week, and I would recommend that you wait
for this version to sync in Ubuntu.

(And indeed, qmmp 1.1 should not have been packaged without taglib >=
1.10. qmmp 1.1.4 is in sid now and works fine with taglib 1.11.)

Insensitive (disabled) toolbar icons in GTK3 are not dimmed

Status in remmina:

Status in ubuntu-themes package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

Disabled (GTK 3.20) and Insensitive (GTK <= 3.18) icons are not
dimmed, therefore there is no visual indication that an icon in the
  toolbar is inactionable.

  [ Test Case ]

This issue can be observed in Xenial and Yakkety.

Install `gtk-3-examples` and run `gtk3-widget-factory`, look at the
toolbar on Page 2, the last icon (tooltip 'Insert something') is
disabled/insensitive and should be dimmed, but is not.

After applying the relevant merge proposal (see below), the
disabled/insensitive icon in the toolbar on Page 2 of gtk3-widgets-
  factory will now be dimmed.

  [ Regression Potential ]

  None.

  [ Other Info ]

This issue can also be reproduced on Xenial and Yakkety using:

* Remmina (from the archive)
* Wireshark (from the archive)
* Eclipse (downloaded)

To reproduce with Eclipse, Eclipse has to be downloaded since the
version in the archive uses GTK2+ for styling, and dims insensitive
  icons correctly.

* Download a recent Eclipse
https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/eclipse/downloads/drops4/R-4.5.2-201602121500/eclipse-SDK-4.5.2-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz
* Extract and execute the "eclipse" executable
* In the toolbar, several icons look enabled even though they are not. For
example the Save icon (Floppy).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1636049] [NEW] apt-daily timer should run after networking is available

2016-10-23 Thread Jarryd Beck
Public bug reported:

The apt-daily service should have a dependency to run after networking
is available. On some startups, especially after the host has not been
running for a while, the apt-daily timer triggers before the network-
online target. This causes apt-get to hang forever, and it cannot be run
again without killing the existing processes.

** Affects: apt (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1546373] Re: Please update to 1.11

2016-10-23 Thread Simon Quigley
It seems that this package can be cleanly synced from Debian.

I checked out the Ubuntu delta, and it seems it's just a patch that has
been applied upstream and is no longer needed when 0.11 is applied. Same
with the other patch that is in there.

So someone just has to sync from Debian manually.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1610952] Re: upgrade error

2016-10-23 Thread madbiologist
** Description changed:

are regular used by my as this is my workstation.
+ Upgraded system from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS using the online system updates
that are regularly used by me as this is my workstation.
Once finished only one of three monitors would show the desktop and login
prompt.
Once my password was entered a short dialogue box appeared and it showed I
had an error.
- The screen with in about 3 seconds after I typed my password was able to show
the error which was ambiguous, the logged me out. I was stuck with a system
that runs my workstation, and unable to login.
- I chose to use a DVD and run the set-up from a disk, I had done the online
update option. Once I did this I was able to work. I did choose to save my
previous OS, however now I basally have a triple boot system, as I already had
a dual boot, from Debian 8 , to Ubuntu that works fine, now I have a generic
Ubuntu that is at the latest version, my set-up working upgraded system which
works, and my other Debian system that works, Then I was able to go in and
change my graphics card to use the non generic drive and login and set it to a
nvida. All works now.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1636033] [NEW] Graphics driver setback to Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256 bits)

2016-10-23 Thread Francisco
Public bug reported:

I've been experiencing brightness control issues and I ended up "upgrading" my
graphics driver through Intel Graphics Update Tool for Linux
https://01.org/linuxgraphics. Running their application setback my graphics
driver (previously Intel Ivybridge) to Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 256
bits). I've tried several solutions I found on askubuntu and other forums, but
nothing seems to work. Fortunately I stumbled upon your xdiagnose tool and
tried running it. It seems my system is not using hardware acceleration.
I'll be happy to share any additional information you might need for solving
this. I'm including some of my commands from bash_history in a file.
I'm running Ubuntu LTS 16.04. Output to $ apt-cache policy xorg:
xorg:
  Installed: 1:7.7+13ubuntu3

Bug description:
This bug is resolved. Do not follow up to this bug. Shutdown bugs
are specific to the software installed and its configuration. If you
are experiencing a shutdown hang, please file a separate bug report
and follow the debugging instructions described in the "Debugging
  boot/shutdown problems" section of
/usr/share/doc/systemd/README.Debian.gz to check if there are any
hanging jobs at shutdown. Capturing a screen photo of "journalctl -b"
in the rescue shell might be enlightening.

  [Original report]
I rebooted my 15.04 system, and found it hanging indefinitely at the plymouth
shutdown screen. Hitting esc to reveal the console showed a normal set of
shutdown messages, ending with 'Reached target Shutdown' (paraphrased from
memory).

The system never rebooted on its own. I had to use SysRq to finish
  the shutdown.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

2016-10-23 Thread Stanislav Kukla
The same problem here. Upgraded from 16.04 to 16.10. When using network manager
for connecting to cisco VPN (network-manager-openconnect), DNS does not work at
all. Even public domains are not resolved.
The only possibility for using VPN for me now is to manually add VPN's internal
nameserver to /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf

Status in systemd:

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I use a VPN configured with network-manager-openconnect-gnome in which
a split-horizon DNS setup assigns different addresses to some names
inside the remote network than the addresses seen for those names from
outside the remote network. However, systemd-resolved often decides
to ignore the VPN’s DNS servers and use the local network’s DNS
servers to resolve names (whether in the remote domain or not),
  breaking the split-horizon DNS.

This related bug, reported by Lennart Poettering himself, was closed with the
current Fedora release at the time reaching EOL:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-10-23 Thread Sander Jonkers
@Joakim: Ah, OK, I now understand. Thanks.

However: I have the beam symbol, but it's now grey (like: no signal), and no
Wifi networks visible. :-(
After a "sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service" the beam signal
shortly becomes an empty pizza slice, then the Up-Down-arrow, and greyed beam
after a minute or so. Pity

And I should have written:
FWIW: I've NO Intel Wifi, but Realtek:
02:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8723BE PCIe
Wireless Network Adapter
Sorry about that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631627] Re: Unity 8 freezes on Nouveau

2016-10-23 Thread Gaele Strootman
This really sucks. I can't get the scaling back to a correct state. The
window contents are way too big. Should I create a new ticket for this?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631627] Re: Unity 8 freezes on Nouveau

2016-10-23 Thread Gaele Strootman
Same with Nvidia GT750M (on Macbook Pro). The freeze happened while
trying to use Browser.

When I returned to Unity 7:
- desktop scaling was screwed. Icons and window contents were too big compared
to menu and title bars
- I suddenly had an Amazon icon in the launcher. When clicking on it Browser
opened with an Amazon page, and my desktop froze again.

(Ubuntu sent an automatic error report when I logged in again, BTW)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-10-23 Thread Sander Jonkers
I have the same problem with a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.10 / yakkety
on my HP Stream 13.

The workaround "sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service" works
for me: it removes the up-down-arrow, and gives back the beam symbol
showing the available wifi networks.

I have no file /etc/systemd/system/wifi-resume.service, so I can't use
the workaround from http://askubuntu.com/questions/761180/wifi-doesnt-
work-after-suspend-after-16-04-upgrade/761220#761220

FWIW: I've an Intel Wifi too:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1424114] Re: lvm snapshot is not being autoextended

2016-10-23 Thread Donk
To solve this issue, you need to install the package "dmeventd" and, in
the file "/etc/lvm/lvm.conf", set the value "monitoring" to 1.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lvm2 in Ubuntu.

Title:
lvm snapshot is not being autoextended

Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After setting auto extend threshold and rebooting, lvm snapshots are
  not being auto extended.

  Steps to recreate:
  1. Using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
  2. Set snapshot_autoextend_threshold to less than 100
  # grep autoext /etc/lvm/lvm.conf
  snapshot_autoextend_threshold = 50
  snapshot_autoextend_percent = 20
  3. Reboot server to have lvm reread lvm.conf
  4. Create a snapshot of a mounted logical volume
  # lvcreate -s /dev/testVG/testLV -L 1G -n testLVsnap
  5. Make modifications to mounted logical volume
  6. List logical volumes and snapshots
  # lvs
LV VG Attr LSize Pool Origin Data% Move Log Copy%
Convert
testLV testVG owi-aos-- 10.00g

testLVsnap testVG swi-a-s-- 1.00g testLV 95.04

What I expected to have happened:
Once Data% of snapshot reached the snapshot_autoextend_threshold, the
snapshot logical volume should have been auto extended.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1635990] [NEW] Missing WiFi connection when phone goes dark

2016-10-23 Thread Matteo
Public bug reported:

When I'm at home and I turn on my own WiFi home network, I can connect
to it from my BQ Aquaris E5 without any problem. Sadly, I noticed that
when the phone darkens for a while and I turn on back the screen, the
WiFi connection has been lost. In order to restore the connection with
my home network, I have to go to WiFi indicator on the top edge of the
phone, to drag down the connection menu and to tap again on my
connection indication.

** Affects: indicator-network (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574333] Re: LVM-based filesystem does not boot with kernel 4.4 (but works with 4.2)

2016-10-23 Thread Frédéric Grosshans
For 4.4.0-45, it only works in recovery mode, one hit on the return key
+ two confirmations to resume normal boot.

Everything works fine withe the 4.8.0-26 kernel of Yaketty Yak (Ubuntu

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1481240] Re: Can't get correct location information before use other GPS apps

2016-10-23 Thread Matteo
Nearby GPS positioning has got many problems. It is a very slow process
at phone start-up and it doesn't work very well in my opinion. I'm in
Italy, in Rome, and before to find the exact location, it takes always
at least 4/5 attempts: it's frustrating. My phone is a BQ Aquaris E5. I
have to tell also that same problems I find with HERE, Google Maps and
uNav, sign that this is a Ubuntu Touch general problem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1591510] Re: lxc-copy: unrecognized option '--backingstorage'

2016-10-23 Thread Christian Brauner
Patch provided by cypressyew upstream:

** Changed in: lxc (Ubuntu)

Title:
  lxc-copy: unrecognized option '--backingstorage'

Status in lxc package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  Release:16.04

  lxc:
    Installed: 2.0.1-0ubuntu1~16.04.1
  linux-image-virtual:
    Installed: 4.4.0.24.25

  Man ref:
  http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/man1/lxc-copy.1.html

  Problem:
The man package references '-B' and '--backingstorage' as aliases of one
another, but when the following command is executed:

  lxc-copy --name=cache --newname container1 --backingstorage=dir
  # as a test I also tried
  lxc-copy --name=cache --newname container1 --backingstorage dir

  The result is:
  lxc-copy: unrecognized option '--backingstorage'

  Expected result:
'--backingstorage' and '-B' should be aliases and both execute correctly

  Existing workaround:
  #Use '-B' instead.
  lxc-copy --name=cache --newname container1 -B dir

  Steps to recreate:
  apt-get update && apt-get install -y lxc
  lxc-create --name=cache --template=download -- --dist ubuntu --release trusty
--arch amd64
  lxc-copy --name=cache --newname container1 --backingstorage=dir

  Man ref:

  Problem:
The man package references 'overlay' as a backing storage type, but when the
following command is executed:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1635971] [NEW] WebRTC: meet.jit.si videocall does not work

2016-10-23 Thread Andrea Bernabei
Public bug reported:

krillin, rc-proposed/bq-aquaris.en channel, revision 456

I previously reported bug #1466015 about meet.jit.si not working on
webbrowser-app, but that bug was marked as duplicate of another bug that is now
marked as "Fix Released".
But meet.jit.si still does not work.
I'm opening a new bug since the errors in the log are different from the ones I
reported in the previous bug.

How to reproduce:
1) visit meet.jit.si
2) click on Go to start a new videocall

Expected outcome:
a videocall is started

Actual outcome:
nothing happens

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1589005] Re: After update DNS work unstable

Title:
  After update DNS work unstable

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Today I have updated network-manager from update repo and chrome have
started get err_name_resolution_failed apt started get network errors.

http://by.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/n/network-manager/network-manager_1.1.93-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb
    Temporary failure resolving 'by.archive.ubuntu.com'

I got same error when previously update network-manager from ubuntu-
proposed, so I think this packet with regression moved to normal
  update.

  workaround: download old network-manager_1.1.93-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb and
install it using
  sudo dpkg -i network-manager_1.1.93-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb
  and lock version
  echo "network-manager hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1635806] Re: dividers in rightclick menu are overpowering

2016-10-23 Thread Iain Lane
I think you're vastly overstating the impact here. I don't agree that
they look as bad as you say.

But if you want to fix it, the Ubuntu themes are the correct place. Look
for "separator" in Ambiance/gtk-3.20 and Radiance/gtk-3.20.

Reassigning.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1635806] [NEW] dividers in rightclick menu are overpowering

2016-10-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

as of 16.10 the dividers in the nautilus right click menu (and also else
where on ubuntu) are very deep and overbearing. They were lovely in
16.04 and have no clue why this graphic was changed...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 213149] Re: pulseaudio breaks on switching from tty7 to tty [1-6] (in and out of Gnome)

2016-10-23 Thread Ronald Portier (Therp)
Actually I have the same annoying behavior on Debian. Really annoying.
Seems pulseaudio is broken by design if a bug is marked as a feature.

Title:
pulseaudio breaks on switching from tty7 to tty [1-6] (in and out of
  Gnome)

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: pulseaudio

  lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
  Release: 8.04

  $ apt-cache policy pulseaudio

Candidate: 0.9.9-1ubuntu4
Version table:

On switching for example to tty1 from X on tty7, sound drops out when
using pulseaudio ( for example in mplayer ). Using alsa as default
  does not produce this issue.

Changing the audio output to alsa produces the expected behaviour:
namely, that sound is not muted or interrupted on vt change.

This bug occurs when switching in and out of X with ctrl+alt+F7,
ctrl+alt+F[1-6]
If sound is played from the prompt in a Vt and a switch is made to another Vt
it appears not to happen.

For instance, starting playback mplayer (using pulse) sound is muted
on change to tty1, and returns on switching back to X on tty7. The
same issue occurs with Totem and the Firefox Totem plugin.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1595238] Re: Unity 8 Desktop Preview System Settings do not work on nouveau [ASSERT: "eglSwapBuffers(mEglDisplay, eglSurface) == EGL_TRUE" in file ../../../src/ubuntumirclient/gl

2016-10-23 Thread Hannie Dumoleyn
After having upgraded to 16.10 (from Xenial), I get an internal error:
/usr/lib/packagekit/packagekitd, crashed on SIGSEGVin_dynamic_cast(),
packagekit 0.8.17-4ubuntu6~gcc5.4ubuntu1.1.
Since I am fed up with all these problems I am going to reinstall Xenial, and
maybe Yakkety after that. I would have liked Unity8 to work on my PC, so that I
could test it before writing documentation for ubuntu-docs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1582011] Re: Swap Failed, Indefinite hang on reboot/shutdown "Reached target Shutdown"

2016-10-23 Thread Guest
To clarify things, this bug here affects unencrypted swap partitions.

There is another bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1506139),
which affects encrypted swap partitions.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1582011

Title:
Swap Failed, Indefinite hang on reboot/shutdown "Reached target
  Shutdown"

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This bug has been affecting me since 15.04
Prior to shutdown I activate debug-shell 'systemctl start debug-shell'
I have followed bug #1464917 and installed Xenial-proposed with systemd
229-4ubuntu5 package.
I have finally collected shutdown info using vt9.
Issues collecting info due to what I believe is a timeout where vt9 is not
activated when ctl+alt+F9 is pressed. I was able to collect info in vt9 to
file "shutdown.text" I appended outputs to file "shutdown.text" the following
commands in this order:
  systemctl list-jobs >>shutdown.text
  systemctl --failed >>shutdown.text
  uname -a >>shutdown.text
  systemd --version >>shutdown.text
  lsblk >>shutdown.text
  blkid >>shutdown.text
  journalctl -b >>shutdown.text
  systemctl -all >>shutdown.text
  journalctl -xe >>shutdown.text

After gaining these data I was only able to finish the reboot with the
alt+Sysrq and REISUB which forces a reboot even when I just want to shutdown
Each output I separated upon next boot by hand with a line
# for easier perusing.

As a workaround for shutdown/reboot I turn swap off, 'sudo swapoff -a
&& systemctl poweroff' or 'sudo swapoff -a && reboot' which
occasionally fails if SWAP has more data than available RAM. In that
latter case I am left waiting for the hang and then using
alt+Sysrq+REISUB to reboot then shutdown again immediately upon boot
before SWAP has a chance to gain data, then I can use any form of
halt, poweroff or menu to shutdown.

I have been unable to get answers from AskUbuntu or the above listed
bug #1464917 "Reached target Shutdown" I am filing this bug per
instructions requested in that bug. Other systemd bugs I have
researched #788303 Debian bug reports, #2930 Github and #3087 Github.

Thanks for your time and efforts to help with this issue.
