[Touch-packages] [Bug 1725840] Re: resolvconf not correctly configured after update from 17.04 to 17.10

2017-11-17 Thread MuppaneniBharath
I do have the same issue after upgrade from 17.4-17.10. So do we have
a FIX !!!

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to resolvconf in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725840

Title:
resolvconf not correctly configured after update from 17.04 to 17.10

Status in resolvconf package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After having updated my laptop from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10, the DNS
lookup on my wireless network connection did not work any more.

As it seems, the file /etc/resolv.conf was static and contained wrong
data assigned by the NetworkManager. When I changed the file content
  manually to

nameserver 127.0.0.53

DNS lookup worked fine. After reboot, however, I had to repeat this
operation since NetworkManager seems to have replaced the file
  content.

Finally, I found a solution. Running

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf

the file /etc/resolv.conf was replaced by the link

  /etc/resolv.conf -> ../run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

Now, the wireless network seems to work properly.

Hence, there must be some kind of bug during the update process from
Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10 that impedes resolvconf to be configured
  properly.

  Best regards,

  Artur

Title:
bluetooth unavailable after rfkill hard (or soft) unblocking and after
  suspend/resume

Status in Bluez Utilities:
  Incomplete
Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
DELL Latitude E5510 has a hardware switch to disable and enable
bluetooth and wifi devices ("hard blocking" in terms of rfkill). In
terms of wifi, this works great: After hard unblocking, the device
resumes back to normal operation without any manual intervention. That
was also working with bluetooth as of ubuntu 14.04, kernel 4.2.

In ubuntu 16.04, kernel 4.4.0-31-generic, together with systemd, this
  is not working any more:

  After hard blocking and unblocking

  - bluetooth is not working at all
  - the applet-indicator remains gray
  - bluetooth cannot be enabled with the applet-indicator (see
https://storage6.static.itmages.com/i/16/0717/h_1468721829_7715160_83cd33bfba.png).
 Applet-indicator remains gray
  - rfkill list tells me that the kernel knows about the hard unblocking (turns
from "yes" to "no"):
  rfkill list bluetooth
  2: dell-bluetooth: Bluetooth
   Soft blocked: no
   Hard blocked: no
  8: hci0: Bluetooth
   Soft blocked: no
   Hard blocked: no

  The device is a
  sudo lsusb
Bus 002 Device 010: ID 413c:8187 Dell Computer Corp. DW375 Bluetooth Module

  Workaround: After a

  sudo service bluetooth restart

the bluetooth device turns back to normal operation and the applet-
indicator turns from gray to black (available).

Suggested fix: Make the workaround obsolete.

that is the correct interface and address.

If I manually run 'dhclient nep129s0f0' the lease sticks and
  'journalctl -fu systemd-networkd' shows:

  Oct 23 16:45:34 san-jose systemd-networkd[1217]: enp129s0f0: Gained carrier

I have verified this is reproducible on other systems with ixgbe based
  add in cards.

igb (1G) cards seem to behave properly as do a random assortment of
onboard devices and virtio devices inside VMs.

Based on a pseudo random selection of my available gear it does seem
hardware specific but this is our only flavor of 10G nic (and we have
kindof a lot of them). Since isc-dhcp-client can bring up the
interface on the commandline I don't *think* it's a driver issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 774071] Re: Indicator-datetime-service renders 100% CPU usage

2017-11-17 Thread Anders Hall
Last work-around didn't stick. Don't think this bug or #1731939 is about
indicator-datetime-service. It seems to be evolution calendar that is
the problem. See comment below:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-
datetime/+bug/1731939/comments/4

Will test 17.10 now.

On my laptop "indicator-datetime-service" occasionally make my CPU to

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1731939] Re: Indicator-datetime-service renders 25% CPU usage and 100% RAM

2017-11-17 Thread Anders Hall
Last work-around didn't stick. Did some test and can reproduce the error
now easily in 17.04. Ubuntu reports it is the Indicator-datetime-service
that crashes when its the evolution calendar that is the problem. During
the system overload the problem can be fixed by killing all evolution
processes and sub-processes indirectly.

Evolution is overloading the Indicator-datetime-service somehow with
lots of (factory?) sub-processes.

Attached screenshot of the processes active during the error. Resolved
by killing the evolution processes in the screenshot.

Also, this problem started after enabling Empathy on boot. However,
after disabling Empathy completely at startup the problem persisted.

Will update to 17.10 (KVM bug fixed) and see if the error is unresolved.

that is the correct interface and address.

If I manually run 'dhclient nep129s0f0' the lease sticks and
  'journalctl -fu systemd-networkd' shows:

I have verified this is reproducible on other systems with ixgbe based
  add in cards.

igb (1G) cards seem to behave properly as do a random assortment of
onboard devices and virtio devices inside VMs.

Based on a pseudo random selection of my available gear it does seem
hardware specific but this is our only flavor of 10G nic (and we have
kindof a lot of them). Since isc-dhcp-client can bring up the
interface on the commandline I don't *think* it's a driver issue.

Bug description:
After raring upgrade, the dhcp server fails to renew lease file when

  The syslog says:
dhcpd: Can't create new lease file: Permission denied

It looks like a permission problem, because

  # chown -R dhcpd:dhcpd /var/lib/dhcp

the above command temporarily solves the issue, until dhcpd is
restarted: at that time, the ownership of the directory and the lease
file is set back to root:root.

Testing on various systems, I'm seeing this on Debian Stretch using file
version 1:5.30-1+deb9u1.

But not on older ubuntu version like file 1:5.25-2ubuntu1.

(Both tested using above test.jpg)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1731283] Re: network-manager 1.8.4-1ubuntu3 ADT test failure with linux 4.14.0-6.8

2017-11-17 Thread Seth Forshee
Seems that s390x ADT does now run in VMs, which explains the change.

Since we don't have wireless support in our s390x kernels, these
failures are expected. Seems the tests will need to be changed to skip
these tests or make them expected failures.

This was fixed in initramfs-tools version 0.123 which is available in

Bug description:
I recently ran out of disk space on my / mount. While looking for
what consumed the disk I noticed a large number (130) of directories
with names / paths beginning /var/tmp/mkinitramfs. These directories
seem to be either ~103 MB or ~927 MB in size. Many of these files are
months old, some are almost a year.

Having had a quick look about for an explanation as to why these files
are here and found Debian Bug #814345. That explains that temporary
files are left behind by the initramfs-tools if something fails in the
process. If this is the cause of my files then updating the Ubuntu
package to version 0.123 should resolve this issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1732970] [NEW] Remove cordova-ubuntu-3.4, qtfeedback-opensource-src, qtsystems-opensource-src from archive

2017-11-17 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Public bug reported:

cordova-ubuntu is dead upstream (https://github.com/apache/cordova-
ubuntu had last commit in Oct 2016), Ubuntu packaging has no active
maintainer and has not been updated since 2014.

I have talked to Alberto Mardegan on IRC, he confirmed that it should be safe
to remove it:
https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2017/11/17/%23ubuntu-devel.html#t18:43

qtfeedback-opensource-src and qtsystems-opensource-src are libraries
which have never become part of official Qt releases, and their only
user in Ubuntu was cordova-ubuntu-3.4.

I'm experiencing this problems on 11.10 and 12.04 with the ubuntu-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1729357] Re: unprivileged user can drop supplementary groups

2017-11-17 Thread Craig Furman
Thanks for replying Eric, but I'm having trouble reproducing what you've
posted. I can't write the gid map until I've written deny to
/prod/$pid/setgroups, not the other way around. There might be some
nuance I've missed.

Also, newgidmap will allow a user to map their own GID to 0 in the user
namespace, even when there is no entry for that user in /etc/subgid.

What if newgidmap wrote "deny" to /proc/$pid/setgroups unless the user
is whitelisted in some config file, probably separate from /etc/subgid,
as Stéphane suggested?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729357

Title:
unprivileged user can drop supplementary groups

Status in shadow package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Distribution: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
  Kernel: 4.4.0-97-generic
  uidmap package version: 1:4.2-3.1ubuntu5.3

The newgidmap setuid executable allows any user to write a single
mapping line to the gid_map of a process whose identity is the same as
the calling process, as long as that mapping line maps the process's
own GID outside of the user namespace to GID 0 inside the user
  namespace.

Newgidmap will write the mapping regardless of the content of
  /proc/$process_being_mapped/setgroups, which will initially contain
the string "allow". After this mapping is performed, and also after
the process' uid_map is written with newuidmap, the process in the
user namespace will be able to use the setgroups system call to drop
  supplementary groups.

This is possible even if there is no entry for the user in
/etc/subgid, because no subordinate GIDs are actually being used.

This allows any user to circumvent the use of supplementary groups as
blacklists, e.g. for some file owned by root:blacklist with permission
bits 0604 (octal). Normally any process whose identity included the
group "blacklist" in its supplementary groups would not be able to
read that file. By performing this exploit using newgidmap, they can
drop all supplementary groups and read that file.

If newgidmap was not available, unprivileged users would not be able
to write a process's gid_map until writing "deny" to
/proc/$pid/setgroups. A fix for this might be for newgidmap to check
the content of /proc/$process_being_mapped/setgroups is "deny", but we
have not tried to patch this ourselves.

An example using 2 login shells for a user named "someone" on Ubuntu
Xenial, with the uidmap package installed:

  Shell 1

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ id
  uid=1001(someone) gid=1001(someone) groups=1001(someone),1002(restricted)

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ ls -al /tmp/should_restrict
  -rwr-- 1 root restricted 8 Nov 1 12:23 /tmp/should_restrict

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ cat /tmp/should_restrict
  cat: /tmp/should_restrict: Permission denied

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ unshare -U --setgroups allow #
/proc/self/setgroups already contains 'allow', but let's be explicit

  nobody@ubuntu-xenial:~$ echo $$
  1878

  Shell 2

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ cat /etc/subuid
  lxd:10:65536
  root:10:65536
  ubuntu:165536:65536

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ cat /etc/subgid
  lxd:10:65536
  root:10:65536
  ubuntu:165536:65536

  # There are no entries in /etc/sub{u,g}id for someone, but this
doesn't matter that much as subordinate IDs are not being requested.

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ newuidmap 1878 0 1001 1

  someone@ubuntu-xenial:~$ newgidmap 1878 0 1001 1

  Back to shell 1

  nobody@ubuntu-xenial:~$ id
  uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),65534(nogroup)

  # The presence of the "nogroup" supplementary group indicates that
some unmapped GIDs are present as supplementary GIDs. The kernel knows
that this process still has "restricted" in its supplementary groups,
so it can't read the restricted file yet.

  nobody@ubuntu-xenial:~$ cat /tmp/should_restrict
  cat: /tmp/should_restrict: Permission denied

  # The process has gained CAP_SETGID in its user namespace by becoming
UID 0. /proc/$pid/setgroups contains "allow", so it can call
setgroups(2). By su-ing to root (itself, in the user namespace), it
can drop the supplementary groups. It can't read /root/.bashrc as that
file is owned by UID 0 in the initial user namespace, which creates
some distracting error output but doesn't matter in this case.

  nobody@ubuntu-xenial:~$ su root
  su: Authentication failure
  (Ignored)
  bash: /root/.bashrc: Permission denied

  # Supplementary groups have been dropped

  root@ubuntu-xenial:~# id
  uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root)

  # It can read the restricted file

  root@ubuntu-xenial:~# cat /tmp/should_restrict
  content

There is information on the open-iscsi tests at [1].
[1]
https://git.launchpad.net/~usd-import-team/ubuntu/+source/open-iscsi/tree/debian/tests/README-boot-test.md

The tests set up an iscsi target and boot a kvm guest off that read-
  only root with overlayroot.

  # get open-iscsi source
  $ apt-get source open-iscsi
  $ cd open-iscsi-2.0.874/

  $ sudo apt-get install -qy simplestreams tgt qemu-system-x86 \
   cloud-image-utils distro-info
  $ cd open-iscsi-2.0.874/

  $ sudo `which patch-image` \
  --kernel=bionic.d/kernel --initrd=bionic.d/initrd bionic.d/disk.img

  $ tgt-boot-test -v bionic.d/disk.img bionic.d/kernel bionic.d/initrd

Success is being able to log in with 'ubuntu' and 'passw0rd'.
Failure as seen in the log is dropping into an emergency shell.

Once inside (this was successful) you'll see a mostly sane system.
  Some things to note:
a.) tgt-boot-test boots without kvm enabled. This is because using
kvm with qemu in nested virt would cause system lockups. Its slower
but more reliable to go wtihout.
b.) under bug 1723183 I made overlayroot comment out the root filesystem
from the rendered /etc/fstab. That was because systemd got confused and
assumed that /media/root-ro had to be on top of /.
c.) you can enable or disable kvm by setting _USE_KVM=0 or _USE_KVM=1
 in your environment.

  $ grep -v "^# " /etc/fstab

There are several other upstream reports related to this problem.

Partial success patch (idevicepair only) trying to keep GnuTLS:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu

2017-11-17 Thread J. McDonald
More specifically, I was able to successfully pair the phone. It took a
couple of iterations (entering password on phone, etc.). The problem
seemed to be lockdownd when trying to mount:

$ ifuse /media/iPhone/
Failed to connect to lockdownd service on the device. Try again. If it still
fails try rebooting your device.

Title:
[Dell Alienware Alpha R2] Mouse cursor flickering on primary monitor
after second monitor HDMI connected to Startech USB32HD4K

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Alienware Alpha R2

Primary monitor is connected to Nvidia GTX 960
Secondary monitor is connected to Startech USB32HD4K (Displaylink Ubuntu
Driver version 1.4.210, http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu)

If only one monitor is connected via Nvidia GTX 960, it is totally
  normal.

If the second monitor is also connected via Startech USB32HD4K, mouse
cursor flickers frequently and can even disappear on the PRIMARY
monitor (the one that is connected to Nvidia GTX 960). On the second
  monitor, everything is fine.

WORKAROUND: In the GUI go to All Settings > Screen Display > for the primary
monitor change Rotation from Normal to any of the following:
  Clockwise
  Anti-clockwise
  180 degrees

udev: boot script does not trigger subsystem coldplug

Bug description:
  [Impact]
subsystems udev rules are not processed on boot, thus resulting in missing
devices on boot / before rootfs is mounted.

  [Solution]
trigger udev subsystems and devices, in the initramfs, in that order.

  [Testcase]
Boot s390x system with chzdev configured devices, and cio_ignore=all kernel
command line parameter. The chzdev configured devices should still be
discovered on boot.

  [Original Bug report]

The udev initramfs-tools boot script does not trigger subsystem "add"
uevents. As a result, udev rules that listen to subsystem "add" events
are never activated. This problem exists on at least Ubuntu 16.04 and
  17.10.

On s390, this results in a boot failure if the kernel is configured to
start with an active device black list (kernel parameter
cio_ignore=all,!condev). An example for an affected udev rule looks
  like this:

  ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="subsystem", KERNEL=="ccw",
  RUN{program}+="/bin/sh -c 'echo free 0009,ec30,ec32,f5f0-f5f2 >
  /proc/cio_ignore'"

  A proposed fix would be:

  Modify /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/udev:

  Replace line
  udevadm trigger --action=add
  with
  udevadm trigger --type=subsystems --action=add
  udevadm trigger --type=devices --action=add

This would also be consistent with the steps that the systemd udev
coldplug unit file performs (see /lib/systemd/system/systemd-udev-
  trigger.service).

  [Regression Potential]
More udev rules will be now triggered, earlier, during initramfs stage of
boot rather than post-pivot-root. However, this is inline with current rootfs
behaviour and thus should not regress behaviour - simply some rules will get
triggered earlier.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1716203] Re: Backport packages for 16.04.4 HWE stack

2017-11-17 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Timo, or anyone else affected,

Accepted wayland-protocols into xenial-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wayland-
protocols/1.10-1~16.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

  *** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.4 ***

A minor update, only some driver updates plus a newer Mesa.

Mesa needs llvm-toolchain-5.0 and libclc, libdrm, wayland-protocols
  updates.

  [Test case]

upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

  [Regression potential]

  libdrm:
Slim to none, changes from 2.4.76 to 2.4.83
  - amdgpu: pci-id handling moved here, new pci-ids, bugfixes, tests
  - intel: new pci-ids
  - drm: leak fixes, manpage updates
  - exynos, etnaviv, freedreno, android: fixes, new stuff

  wayland-protocols:
None, just adds a few protocol definitions (xml files)

  llvm-toolchain-5.0:
  None, a new package

  libclc:
I'd say none, very little has changed, added support for llvm-5 is the main
reason for this slightly newer snapshot

  xorg-server:
Slim, it's an upstream bugfix release, changes from 1.19.3 to 1.19.5 include:
  - security fixes
  - backported bugfixes to glamor, modesetting driver, xwayland etc

  mesa:
New major release plus a few bugfix updates after that. Regressions at this
point are less likely. Upstream is tested by Intel CI system for instance. And
we're already testing it via a ppa on OEM systems for 16.04.4. Tracking bug for
the bugfix release (xenial & artful) is bug 1727390

  [Other information]

build order: [libdrm, wayland-protocols, llvm-toolchain-5.0], [libclc,
  xorg-server], mesa

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  *** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.4 ***

A minor update, only some driver updates plus a newer Mesa.

Mesa needs llvm-toolchain-5.0 and libclc, libdrm, wayland-protocols
  updates.

  [Test case]

upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

  [Regression potential]

  libdrm:
Slim to none, changes from 2.4.76 to 2.4.83
  - amdgpu: pci-id handling moved here, new pci-ids, bugfixes, tests
  - intel: new pci-ids
  - drm: leak fixes, manpage updates
  - exynos, etnaviv, freedreno, android: fixes, new stuff

  wayland-protocols:
None, just adds a few protocol definitions (xml files)

  llvm-toolchain-5.0:
  None, a new package

  libclc:
I'd say none, very little has changed, added support for llvm-5 is the main
reason for this slightly newer snapshot

  xorg-server:
Slim, it's an upstream bugfix release, changes from 1.19.3 to 1.19.5 include:
  - security fixes
  - backported bugfixes to glamor, modesetting driver, xwayland etc

  mesa:
New major release plus a few bugfix updates after that. Regressions at this
point are less likely. Upstream is tested by Intel CI system for instance. And
we're already testing it via a ppa on OEM systems for 16.04.4. Tracking bug for
the bugfix release (xenial & artful) is bug 1727390

  [Other information]

build order: [libdrm, wayland-protocols, llvm-toolchain-5.0], [libclc,
  xorg-server], mesa

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2017-11-17 Thread Brad Cutshall
Environment:
Fresh install 16.04
Razer Blade 14 2014
Intel GPU
Nvidia 870M
1x HDMI port

I originally had no video drivers installed and was using the Intel gpu
and this did not work with DisplayLink with 1.4x drivers installed until
i added xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf. After this it worked as a third
display but I had disappearing mouse cursor issues constantly and only
with the DisplayLink hdmi usb adapter plugged in... there were times
when the mouse wouldn't come back for minutes. Most of the time the
behavior would be: on the top half of the screen the mouse would only
flicker and on the bottom half it would completely disappear. I
experimented with all permutations in the directory
/usr/share/xorg.conf.d/ between 20-nvidia.conf, 20-intel.conf one being
present vs both and all of the params in each scenario: TearingFree
false/true, TripleBuffering false/true, PageFlip false/true

Solution for me was to use the GNOME desktop, the 20-intel.conf with only:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "Intel"
EndSection

And using the Nvidia driver 340 proprietary in AdditionalDrivers while
setting it to be primary usage in Nvidia application with rendering
quality set to performance.

No more disappearing mouse, 3 monitors all plugged in at boot and only a 10
second wait for the USB DisplayLink monitor to show up after login.

Cheers

*PLEASE READ FIRST BEFORE CONSIDERING MAKING A COMMENT*
If you are having an issue and want it addressed, it is most helpful to file
a new report. If you were led here by DisplayLink's website, you were led here
in error as no useful debugging information has been provided by the original
reporter, which is necessary to root cause, and solve the issue he reported.
Posting comments about how you think you have the same problem isn't helpful
here.

My issues is, after adding a 3rd monitor to Ubuntu 14.04, the mouse
flickers (or blinks) when the cursor is on monitors one or two, but
  not 3.

  Monitor 1: 1440 x 900 - Laptop's Native Monitor
  Monitor 2: 1920 x 1080 - Laptop's HDMI Port's External Monitor
  Monitor 3: 1024 x 768 - SIIG USB 2.0 to VGA Pro Monitor

Here's the video card that feeds my laptop's native monitor, monitor 2
  (hdmi).

The 3rd Monitor is powered through a Display Link certified SIIG USB

it is a sticker on back of the device):

  180 degrees
