[Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774860 Title: Dudnt work mane Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: whatever it is I am sure it is something I have done to it in the last 24 hrs. It was working without glitch es until I started into it. I had hoped for more with adding the card. I am not sure If the gpu with the intel chip wasn't doing better or if I can turn it off somehow. The firmware with the ATI is not what I had hoped either. I would like for everything to not lcok up or cause something else to not quite work right such as the mouse or just trying to navigate or scroll a window. I am sure I have to many things running sometimes and I am still getting the hang of just how the structure works with it all. For example this go around and there have been several in the last 9 months, all with a smile though. Installed several packages with several different methods such appimaage, snapd, flatpack, git, built them from source code, etc... and The appimages are just frustrating sometimes depending on wether I built them, used ocs-url, open desktop , or the new one can't remember, it put them every where and then they just wern't recoginized by something else, so then there were 2, and sometimes Root, User, and usr all had there own but no one had everything and of course it is just My best friends ME, myself, and I that are using this machine. All in All hve put 10 different versions of linux and windows on this machine all in a multiboot working correctly twice now. There is however not a really reason to have asmany now. It has all been to learn, and use something I had not before and see which ones did what. I think i should have started with the structure of the basic kernel and worked my way up, but it does appear sometimes different distros still put what they want where they want, also. Hope you are havung a day with just enough stress to cause you to learn something new and share it with someone else someday. Thank you for your time in reading not only this, but what I am sure is so so so many other reports. Printing a PDF can take very long (and I'm not shure if the print jobs really end successfully). I have tried three cases: CASE 1: I have a PDF (a converted PowerPoint presentation, about 125 slides, 10 MB). The PDF mainly consists of text, formula and vector graphics. There are a few JPGs in it, too, but they are low resolution only. As more than 120 pages is very much to print and the font size is big, too, I wanted to print 2 slides on one DIN A4 page. Okular (or kprinter?) has a function for this so I tried to use it. After about 1 hour I didn't have at least one printed page but a CPU intensive gs process running and a temporary PS file that was far bigger than 200 MB. After some more waiting I cancelled the printing job. CASE 2: I had the suspicion that gs processed each file as seperate image to fit two of them on one page. So I tried Adobe reader togive out a ps file with 2 slides on one page hoping that this application is a bit more efficient. It really is more efficient and the resulting PS file was "just" about 130 MB which I guess is not too bad if the Reader has converted some vector grafics into rasterized images (for compatibility reasons for example). I expected it should be no big problem to print out this "printer ready" PS file... So I opened in Okular and tried to print it. But after some time the printing wasn't even started and it took a closer look at the processes running: $ ps -fA | grep gs lp3991 2481 0 19:27 ?00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstopdf 433 dominic Physik 1_1 1 [...] /var/spool/cups/d00433-001 lp3992 2481 0 19:27 ?00:00:00 Brother_DCP-120C 433 dominic Physik 1_1 1 BRColorEnhancement=ON [...] lp3993 2481 0 19:27 ?00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/lib/cups/filter/cpdftocps 433 dominic Physik 1_1 1 BRColor[...] lp3994 2481 0 19:27 ?00:00:00 /bin/csh /usr/lib/cups/filter/brlpdwrapperDCP110C 433 dominic Physik 1_1 1 [...] root 3995 2481 0 19:27 ?00:00:00 usb://Brother/DCP-120C 433 dominic Physik 1_1 1 [...] lp4058 3991 61 19:28 ?00:00:07 gs -dSAFER -dCompatibilityLevel=1.3 -dAutoRotatePages=/None -dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dNOPLATFONTS -dPARANOIDSAFER -sstdout=%stderr -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -dPDFSETTINGS=/printer -dDoNumCopies -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sstdout=%stderr -sOutputFile=- -dSAFER -dCompatibilityLevel=1.3 -dAutoRotatePages=/None -dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dNOPLATFONTS -dPARANOIDSAFER -sstdout=%stderr -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode -dPDFSETTINGS=/printer -dDoNumCopies -c .setpdfwrite -f - (Cups is process 2481) So it seems as if the printer ready PS file is converted to PDF and back to PS again by Cups and that gs is processing it in some way, too. This semed very inefficeinto me so I canceled the printing job again as it probably wouldn't be processed any time soon. CASE 3: I thought maybe Okular and Cups couldn't communicate that the file was already ready for printing. So I tried to print the file directly using "lp" - but the problem was the same. And also printing diectly from Adobe Reader had this effect (but I guess this is hardly surprising as it seems to use "lpr"). -- Maybe the problem is something completely different, but that's all I could find out. The only thing I know for sure is that I have no proper solution to print such documents which I need for studying :-( But I hope that this bug can be solved. I will help as good as I can. I'm on Ubuntu Karmic 64bit. My usb printer brother HL-1430 is installed automatically after plugin, but I followed several guidelines and installed the package brother-cups-wrapper-laser1 and choose the new ppd from /usr/share/ppd/Brother/brhl1430_cups.ppd in printer config. But still I have the problem: I can only print once. Sometimes it helps to just unplug and plugin again. Sometimes I have to power down the printer, sometimes I do a /etc/init.d/cups.d restart - sometimes only everything together helps. [Touch-packages] [Bug 455734] Re: Cups prompts for authorization on a network printer even though it is not required

Steps to reproduce: 1. Install a Samba shared printer that does not require authorization by going to System->Administration->Printing 2. On the wizard screen under Authorization leave the default setting, "Prompt user if authentication is required" 3. Print and be prompted for authorization Details: I get asked for authorization with every print. I can leave the password blank or put anything at all in the username and password fields and the document will print. It shows up as "Guest" user on the XP machine. Workaround: I tried changing the setting for the authorization to guest with no password but the change did not persist. This seems to be another bug which I will file separately. I got rid of the prompt by deleting and recreating the printer and setting the username to "guest" and leaving the password blank under authorization. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.
Ubuntu 18.04.1 It takes a long time to boot, then enter the password to unlock the disk. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1768230 Title: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning. Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in initramfs-tools source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Bug description: [SRU Justification] A regression in initramfs-tools causes it to autogenerate config in the initramfs saying to resume from any available swap devices, but references the swap device by UUID, which is not a canonical form for referring to LVM volumes (because of snapshotting, they are not unique). Ubiquity also generates a file in /etc at install time which references the swap partition in the same way. Since the lvm2 initramfs hooks also only activate precisely those LVs that are detected as needed at boot, this adds an inappropriate 30-second boot delay to any system with swap on LVM, which includes any desktop system that was configured with LVM (but not full-disk encryption) at install time. [Test case] 1. Install using the "Use LVM" option in the desktop installer. 4. Reboot. 5. Verify that dmesg shows a 30-second delay before mounting the root filesystem. 6. Install initramfs-tools from bionic-proposed. 7. Reboot. 8. Verify that dmesg no longer shows a 30-second delay before mounting the root filesystem. 9. Install using the bionic daily image that contains the ubiquity from bionic-proposed. 10. Reboot. 11. Verify that /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume is not present and that there is no delay before mounting the root filesystem. [Regression potential] This makes changes to shell scripts, and shell is a perilous language. An unnoticed bug could cause all initramfs generation, and thus all kernel installation, to fail for some users. A regression could also cause a user to lose hiberation support that they currently have. [Original description] After choosing "Erase disk and install ubuntu" + "Use LVM with the new Ubuntu installation", the system is very slow to reboot. It shows the message : "WARNING:Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.", then waits 32 seconds, then continues as it should. I think this is a ubiquity bug, since the d-i based installer is not affected. - ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso (a55353d837cbf7bc006cf49eeff05ae5044e757498e30643a9199b9a25bc9a34) : affected - xubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso (7c24318d3b1de1efd584b5aea034ce1aafd2d0f06c59812d989a5fc95bf947e3) : affected - ubuntu-18.04-server-amd64.iso (a7f5c7b0cdd0e9560d78f1e47660e066353bb8a79eb78d1fc3f4ea62a07e6cbc) : not affected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1768230/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1785302] Re: rsync -a should imply -X
** Tags added: id-5b64a4089f439b7cfe22 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to rsync in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785302 Title: rsync -a should imply -X Status in rsync package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: As discussed at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- devel/2018-August/040407.html ff, as of Ubuntu 18.04 an Ubuntu root filesystem uses xattrs for storing filesystem capabilities. We should therefore have defaults for our rsync that preserve these attributes without needing to pass additional commandline options. Currently the rsync -a ("archive") option is documented as preserving symlinks (-l), permissions (-p), modification times (-t), groups (-g), owners (-u), and special files (-D); but not hardlinks (-H), acls (-A), or xattrs (-X). I haven't looked into the reasoning, but I expect it's because the first set of options can be assumed supported on a target POSIX-ish filesystem, and the latter are not guaranteed to be supported on all POSIX-ish filesystems (although POSIX does require hardlink support). On Ubuntu, and on modern Linux generally, it should be safe to assume that any POSIX filesystem currently in use that supports Unix permissions and special files also supports acls and xattrs. (Linux filesystems known to support them: ext4, xfs, jfs, zfs, btrfs.) Without having looked closely at the implementation, I think a sensible approach on Ubuntu would be: - rsync when sending should interpret '-a' to include '-A' and '-X' and send acls and xattrs as part of the stream. - if sending to a remote server that doesn't negotiate a protocol high enough to handle acls and xattrs, do not consider this an error. - rsync when receiving xattrs and acls appears to already ignore failures to set them, so no changes would be required for compatibility. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1785291] Re: tar --xattr and --xattr-include=* should be defaults
** Tags added: id-5b6498323341a64e58025645 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to tar in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785291 Title: tar --xattr and --xattr-include=* should be defaults Status in tar package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: As discussed at https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu- devel/2018-August/040407.html ff, as of Ubuntu 18.04 an Ubuntu root filesystem uses xattrs for storing filesystem capabilities. We should therefore have defaults for our tar that preserve these attributes without needing to pass additional commandline options. Currently when creating a tarball you must pass the non-default option --xattrs and when extracting a tarball you must pass the non-default option --xattrs-include=*. The latter is particularly awkward, and Colin Watson found some version of tar documentation that suggests --xattrs-include=* should never be needed, only --xattrs. But that doesn't appear in the version of tar(1) in bionic, and in practice --xattrs-include=* is definitely required. Ideally we want this changed in upstream tar as well since we can't rely on users using the Ubuntu build of tar to unpack their Ubuntu filesystems; but even without this we should change the default in Ubuntu to take the sharp edges off for our users where possible. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1785383] [NEW] missing EDNS0 record confuses systemd-resolved
Public bug reported: dnsmasq 2.79 and below omits EDNS0 OPT records when returning an empty answer for a domain it is authoritative for. systemd-resolved seems to get confused by this in certain circumstances; when using the stub resolver and requesting an address for which there are no records, there can sometimes be a five second hang in resolution. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1784964] Re: Regression due to CVE-2018-1116 (processes not inheriting user's supplementary groups )
** Summary changed: - Regression due to CVE-2018-1116 (processes not inheriting user's groups ) + Regression due to CVE-2018-1116 (processes not inheriting user's supplementary groups ) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to policykit-1 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1784964 Title: Regression due to CVE-2018-1116 (processes not inheriting user's supplementary groups ) Status in policykit-1 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This report is tracking a possible regression caused by the recent CVE-2018-1116 patches to policykit-1. On 18.04, since package upgrades on July 23rd, and after the first reboot since then on Aug 1st, I hit an issue with the primary (sudo, adm, etc...) user getting Permission Denied trying to do: tail -f /var/log/syslog when that file is owned by syslog:adm and is g=r. I then found that "groups" reports only the $USER and not the entire list, but "groups $USER" reports all the groups correctly. The user shell is set to /usr/bin/tmux and /etc/tmux.conf has "set -g default-shell /bin/bash" After changing the user's shell back to /bin/bash and logging in on tty1 the list of groups shows correctly for the /bin/bash process running on tty1. I investigated and found that for the affected processes, such as the tmux process, /proc/$PID/loginuid = 4294967295 whereas the /bin/bash process on tty1 correctly reported 1000. The same with the respective gid_map and uid_map. 4294967295 == -1 == 0x The recent CVE patch to policykit has several functions where it does "uid = -1" which seems to tie in to my findings so far. I also noticed Ubuntu is still based on version 0.105 which was released in 2012 - upstream released 0.115 with the CVE patch. I suspect the backporting has missed something. The Ubuntu backport patch is: https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-1/commit/?h=applied/ubuntu /bionic-devel=840c50182f5ab1ba28c1d20cce4c207364852935 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-1/+bug/1784964/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
