Title:
  lxc-test-api-reboot will hang with autopkgtest

Status in ubuntu-kernel-tests:
  Confirmed
Status in lxc package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Steps:
    1. Deploy Bionic on a bare-metal system.
    2. Enable deb-src, install the autopkgtest package
    3. sudo autopkgtest lxc -- null

  Result:
    * The test will hang, a "reboot" lxc container will be created. The last
message on the screen will be:
  make[1]: Entering directory '/tmp/autopkgtest.JxRLRE/build.bSQ/src'
make[1]: Nothing to be done for 'all-am'.
  make[1]: Leaving directory '/tmp/autopkgtest.JxRLRE/build.bSQ/src'
    * Tried to connect to the "reboot" container with "sudo lxc-console
reboot", but nothing there:
  Connected to tty 1
Type to exit the console, to enter Ctrl+a
itself
    * If you kill the job and run it again, this time the test will go on (fail
with the lxc-test-api-reboot test, as the container has already been created)

This issue can be reproduced on an amd64 box and a s390x zKVM.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1801642] Re: Bluetooth mouse sleep after 5 seconds of inactivity

The OpenSSH bug contains a trivial two-line patch to fix the bug. I

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1766440] Re: GDM does not default to primary monitor

2018-11-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt

Title:
GDM does not default to primary monitor

Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have my monitor in the hdmi port of my gtx780 and my tv in the displayport.
Something about X seems to have a bias towards the dp output.

During the installer I had to unplug the tv (displayport) and continue
the installation. When I plug it in I have to use super + p to switch
to 'extend' instead of duplicate. This has a high probability to make
the mouse unable to click anywhere in gnome.

From this point I am able to set my monitor as the primary monitor and gnome
works as expected.
I rebooted and gdm still defaulted to my secondary (dp) monitor. I blindly
logged in (enter + password + enter) and the desktop switched a few times
between tv as default and monitor as default. It finally settled on the monitor
as default however I could not click anywhere in gnome.

I was able to get control again by pressing the window button, typing
and opening a program, from here I was able to alt-tab to the program
and was able to click on the desktop again. From here I went to
settings to verify my settings and saw that my setting of the monitor
(hdmi) as the primary monitor was still there.

I suspect grub is defaulting to displayport, passing this default to
gdm, then once gdm exits and gnome is loaded the proper default is
restored. However Gnome is not in 'focus' for some reason and it takes
  work to fix this.

A separate effort should probably be crated around the super + p
display switching dialog as it has a high probability of locking a
  user out of the session.

Title:
In ubuntu 18.04,when I unplug the screen cable, the user session
  close's

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have submitted the first rapport yesterday, at the following link:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1765160
And after the first reply from
Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot (crichton)
I go to the page provided in this automated reply:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage
and from this page I go to the following pages and I apply the step that
match this case.
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport/DeveloperHowTo
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash
After I read the step described in these pages
I run the following command in konsole (as root)
  ubuntu-bug xorg
I click on submit, and then it take me to this page.
In the description I have done yesterday, i wrote:
  "Hello.
If I unplug the cable of the screen when I am logged to my user session in
ubuntu 18.04, and then I plug again the cable of the screen, I found my session
closed, and when I login again to my user session, I found all previous running
programs closed.
This bug reproduce every time I unplug the cable screen from the unit.
what I expect: when I plug the screen cable to the unit, I must find my
session open as I let it, and programs that were running still open or running
What happened: after I plug the cable screen to the unit, i find my session
and all programs closed, and when I login again to my account session, I find
all previous programs closed.

  CPU: Intel® Pentium(R) CPU G645 @ 2.90GHz × 2
  Graphic: Intel® Sandybridge Desktop
  Gnome: 3.28.1

If there is any other information needed to help solving this bug that i must
submit, just let me know it."
  And today, I have included
  _usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_libexec_kdeconnectd.1000.crash Edit (2.4 MiB,
text/plain)
And I submit it again now
Please tell me were I must continue with this bug, at this page or the
previous (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1765160) or both of them, or
it will be merged automatically

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1766015] Re: Session crashes, returning to login screen

2018-11-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 17.10 (artful) reached end-of-life on July 19, 2018.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in and change the bug status to Confirmed.

Session crashes, returning to login screen

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Sometimes, while using my computer, everything on the screen just
freezes (but audio keeps playing) and then a couple seconds later,
everything is black (and audio stops at this point), and then I am
brought back to the login screen. In addition, the numlock light on my
keyboard is lit up, but numlock is actually turned off, requiring me
to hit the numlock key again. I don't know if using two HDMI monitors
at once is relevant or not.

[radeon][amdgpu] Power Save Blank Screen Resoration Ubuntu 18.04

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After Blank Screen has time operated, Display screens can be re-energized but
only to a display of colored noise all over them.
To recover the machine must be turned of and restarted from scratch.

The problem can be bypassed by deactivating the Screen Blank feature
and only using the suspend mode to avoid having to use a forced power
  off and loosing data.

Bug description:
When I move the mouse, multiple flashing mouse pointers appear on the
display. Sometimes they disappear in a few seconds and sometimes they
stay for minutes or until I've moved the proper pointer to another
app. This only happens when I'm using a USB SSD to boot and start

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1801642] Re: Bluetooth mouse sleep after 5 seconds of inactivity

2018-11-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. If you have 'tlp' installed then please try removing that.

2. If #1 has not solved the problem then please install 'powertop'. Now run:
   sudo powertop
and keep pressing Tab till you reach the "Tunables" section. Find your mouse in
that list ("Autosuspend for USB device..."). Does it show a "Good" or "Bad"
value?

Title:
iproute2/xenial: Add support for the VF Trust setting (fix IPv6
multicast under SR-IOV on Mellanox adapters)

Status in iproute2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in iproute2 source package in Xenial:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * An VM's VF cannot receive IPv6 multicast traffic
from other VMs' VFs in the same Mellanox adapter
_if_ its VF trust setting is not enabled, and on
Xenial currently iproute2 _cannot_ enable it.

   * This breaks IPv6 NDP (Neighbor Discovery Protocol)
     in that scenario.

   * This upload adds three iproute2 upstream commits
to enable/disable the VF setting, which resolves
     that problem/limitation.

  [Test Case]

   * Check 'ip link help' for the 'trust' option:

     Before:

   # ip link help 2>&1 | grep trust

     After:

   # ip link help 2>&1 | grep trust
   [ trust { on | off} ] ]

   * Check 'ip link show dev PF' for 'trust on|off' field in VFs.

Before: (trust field _is not_ present)

   # ip link show dev ens1f0
   ...
vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto
vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto

     After: (trust field _is_ present)

   # ip link show dev ens1f0
   ...
vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto, trust off
vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto, trust off

   * Set the VF trust on/off and check it:

   Set VF 0 trust on:

   # ip link set ens1f0 vf 0 trust on
   # ip link show dev ens1f0 | grep trust
vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto, trust on
vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto, trust off

   Set VF 0 trust off:

   # ip link set ens1f0 vf 0 trust off
   # ip link show dev ens1f0 | grep trust
vf 0 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto, trust off
vf 1 MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00, spoof checking on, link-state auto, trust off

  [Regression Potential]

   * Regression potential is low because the commits just add the
netlink attribute for the userspace-kernel interface and the
ways to set/clear it, and show the current value to the user.

   * Regressions could happen _if_ the user turns the setting on
     (it's disabled by default) and there's a problem/bug likely
in _other_ component that depends on that setting (which is
something to fix on such component).

  [Other Info]

   * The users that reported this problem have verified
the test package with these changes, and confirmed
that it now works correctly for IPv6 NDP/multicast.

   * Upstream commits:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/network/iproute2/iproute2.git/commit/?id=dddf1b44126e

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/network/iproute2/iproute2.git/commit/?id=fe9322781e63

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/network/iproute2/iproute2.git/commit/?id=b6d77d9ee312

   * Only affect Xenial release :

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1801593] Re: System-d shim and multiverse-adm64 packages specified several times

2018-11-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Title:
[ALC892] Audio skipping/'crackling', pavucontrol shows constant
(1-sec) dropping of connection to server

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
So to clarify, the audio is *rapidly* dropping (i.e. drops every sec
or so), which seems roughly in time with Pavucontrol constantly
flickering up a "Establishing connection to PulseAudio. Please
  wait..." message.

I've tested both the front and back audio plugs on my desktop, both
show the same problem. It doesn't 'flicker' through HDMI-audio, which
is a viable workaround as long as HDMI-audio *works* (I don't think
that's a "bug", so much as it hasn't been implemented, and won't be
  until DAL arrives).

Anyway, IIRC the problem also occurs on other distros, and at some
point it *was* working, before some software update. The same problem
  occurs on other distros too.

Also, when the audio is playing through my headphones through
*non*-HDMI audio, the audio icon flickers too.

Also, upon trying to get the above icon-flicker to happen again, it's
labelling my headphones as "unplugged" and not playing *any* (audible)
  audio.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1799007] Re: [System76 Oryx Pro] no sound after 18.10 upgrade

2018-11-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Try looking in /dev/snd/ :)

Also, please try booting Ubuntu from USB:
   http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.10/
and tell us if the problem still occurs in the live USB session?

Title:
[System76 Oryx Pro] no sound after 18.10 upgrade

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After upgrading to 18.10, the sound in my System76 Oryx Pro no longer
works, it no longer shows any of the audio output devices, not even
the builtin HDMI which usually always shows.

Not sure what happened, but this is a major regression and needs to be fixed.
Note that this isn't the same as the bug with Timidity taking exclusive
soundcard access
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1797714) as I don't
have any timidity packages installed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1499858] Re: bluetoothd[650]: Failed to obtain handles for "Service Changed" characteristic

2018-11-04 Thread Singtoh
Hello,

Just to chime in here. I compiled bluez-5.43 and installed it on ubuntu
16.04 and it got rid of all the "Not enough free handles to register
service" errors except this one "Failed to obtain handles for "Service
Changed" characteristic. Before doing this there were many "Not enough
free handles to register service". Any ideas on this last error "Failed
to obtain handles for "Service Changed"??

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1801623] [NEW] Bluetooth keeps starting by default on boot, prefer it's off by default

2018-11-04 Thread BloodyIron
Public bug reported:

Bluetooth keeps starting by default on boot, I turn it off, and it's not
set to start in startup applications. Need a way for it to be always off
by default, but still be able to turn it on when I need it.

I've been seeing this for many major Ubuntu versions for years. Finally
submitting this.

Ubuntu 18.04 currently.

Ubuntu MATE 18.04 totally crashed (I had to reinstall 18.04 just to
boot). Since I was going to have to reinstall everything, I thought to
check and see if 18.04 was the latest. It isn't, so I decided to try
18.10 before reinstalling everything. Unfortunately, its still very
buggy. Both the Software Botique and the Software app are buggy. With
the Software app down, I can't even try to load Eclipse - which is in
  the 18.04 Software app.

When I try to report bugs with ubuntu-bug, I get yet more bugs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585903] Re: Make it possible to remove gtk2

2018-11-04 Thread Jeremy Bicha
gtk2 is no longer in the default install for most locales.

See https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.tag=gtk2-demotion for the
remaining bugs that affect the live image.

Title:
Make it possible to remove gtk2

Status in Ubuntu GNOME:
  Fix Released
Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in meta-gnome3 package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 17.10 still requires gtk2
  ---
  sudo apt remove libgtk2.0-0

The following packages will be REMOVED:
    firefox* gnome-session-canberra* gtk2-engines-murrine* ibus-gtk*
kerneloops-applet* libcanberra-gtk-module* libcanberra-gtk0* libgail-common*
libgail18* libgtk2-perl* libgtk2.0-0* libgtk2.0-bin* light-themes* thunderbird*
thunderbird-gnome-support* thunderbird-locale-en* thunderbird-locale-en-us*
ubuntu-artwork* ubuntu-desktop*

  Proposal for 18.04
  -
  1. DONE: Don't have webkit2 recommend the gtk2 support.
  2. NOT NEEDED: Split the gtk2 part of light-themes to a separate package.
  3. DONE: Use a dh_shlibdeps hack to drop the libgtk2.0-0 dependency from
these GTK2 addons:
    a. DONE: gnome-themes-standard
    b. DONE: gtk2-engines-murrine
    c. DONE: gtk2-engines-pixbuf (not in default install but installed by
vanilla gnome-session)
    d. DONE: ibus-gtk

  4. DONE: Drop gnome-session-canberra's unnecessary manual dependency
  on libcanberra-gtk0

  5. PROPOSED: Either disable Flash in Thunderbird or apply the dh_shblideps
hack from Firefox. Either way probably needs Thunderbird Beta, but Thunderbird
59 should be stable or close it to by 18.04 release.
  6. DONE in Firefox 58 Beta: Apply the dh_shlibdeps hack to Firefox

  7. IN PROGRESS: Prepare a debconf-gtk3 backend and switch gnome-
software and software-properties-gtk to use it (LP: #1736618)

  8. DONE: Demote kerneloops dependency on kerneloops-applet to
  Suggests.

  9. IN PROGRESS: Don't have ubuntu-desktop or gnome-orca recommend
  libgail-common. It's a gtk2 library (basically) that gtk2 already
  recommends.

10: optional: Apply the dh_shlibdeps hack to the gtk2 modules and
theme engines that aren't in main.

  Original Bug Report
  ---
I can't remove GTK2 from my system, because parts of GNOME still require it.
