[Touch-packages] [Bug 1802700] Re: Cannot install graphic drivers

2018-11-10 Thread Cristian Aravena Romero
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Bug description:
  SRU justification

  [Impact]
Many modern notebooks need i2c-i801 kernel module to function, but it is
blacklisted by /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf, which gives a very poor user
experience.

  [Test case]
  1. Install Ubuntu
  2. Check touchpad works or not
  3. Install the fixed kmod package
  4. Confirm touchpad works

  [Regression Potential]
i2c-i801 was blacklisted due to bug 16602. The user complains an HP Compaq
nc6000 notebook cannot suspend without blacklisting i2c-i801. While this is a
way to workaround the suspend issue, the proper fix should be in linux kernel.
Since nc6000 was a machine sold in 2004, it is too difficult to find someone to
verify if it will regress due to this SRU. The rationale to blacklist it is:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotplug/+bug/16602/comments/5,
however it is no longer valid nowadays on modern computers.

Besides, there look like to be a quirk in linux kernel that fixes it:
  https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blame/master/drivers/pci/quirks.c#L1434

  [Other Info]
  rationale of i2c_i801 driver blacklist:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kmod/+question/269329

---
  Original bug report:

We have a Lenovo Thinkpad machine that requires i2c-i801 kernel module
to work, but it is listed in /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf in Ubuntu.
To use the touchpad, users have to remove the i2c-i801 line manually.

i2c-i801 in blacklist.conf is a very old workaround to fix HP compaq nc6000
(Bug #16602), this module should be removed from blacklist.

There is also another bug (Bug #1475945) that needs this module for
  Acer trackpad to work.

Title:
ubuntu does not load the image from swap after hibernation

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
after upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04 the upgrade messes up the boot
process and hibernatation does not work. I hibernate by

  systemctl hibernate

it asks for a password and it seemingly saves the image and shuts
down. when I start the computer it does not load the saved image but
opens a blank session losing the saved workspace. very inconvenient to
  start from scratch every time.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1801551] Re: ubuntu does not load the image from swap after hibernation

2018-11-10 Thread stephen bond
Steve,

I will be happy to test any specific commands

cat: /tmp/initrd/main/conf/conf.d/zz-auto-resume: No such file or
directory

also I saw other bug reports reporting the same problem see

In Progress
#332365

I thought that hibernate will dump the workspace onto swap. I think it does
that. however the wake up does not load from swap.
can you suggest some diagnostic commands?
thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1760818] Re: gedit and gnome-calculator transparency/graphics corruption issue when GTK_IM_MODULE=xim is set

2018-11-10 Thread Chrescht
Are you all on gnome-shell? I have the same transparency issue in gnome-
session-flashback / lightdm, but only when using theme Ambiance. I moved
to theme Adwaita and the transparency issues are gone.

Setting the input method to iBus does fix it for theme Ambiance too.

Still not working - November 2018. First reported March 2016 and doesn't
appear to have been assigned to a developer for attention. Is this
correct?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571531] Re: cupsd cause apparmor denials for /etc/ld.so.preload

2018-11-10 Thread Edson José dos Santos
Hello Seth Arnold

How do I run this: "/tmp/esets.sock rw" since Eset is already installed?

The same happens to this: to the /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/base file
and run:

This I run it: sudo systemctl reload apparmor

I am a beginner and linux and if this happens the error messages will
disappear from the startup and Eset Antivirus for linux version 4.90?

Grateful for the attention

Edson Santos

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1802648] Re: package initramfs-tools 0.130ubuntu3.5 failed to install/upgrade: installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-11-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The version of update-initramfs that you likely have
installed is unable to work on a persistent usb stick. You can resolve
this issue by upgrading the version of casper on your system. This can
be done via the commands:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install casper

Then performing the software update or installation that you were
originally trying. If this does not resolve your bug please set its
status back to New. Thanks in advance!

** Tags added: needs-new-casper

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1802631] [NEW] [AX370-Gaming 5, Realtek ALC1220, Green Headphone Out, Front] No sound at all, sound is played through speakers plugged in the back instead of the headphones plugg

2018-11-10 Thread Miroslav Spehar
Public bug reported:

What happens:
plugging in headphones in the front jack is detected (icon in the sound
settings is changed to headphones correctly), but no sound is played through
the headphones. Sound is still reproduced through speakers plugged in the back
and the volume settings are being ignored.

Expected results:
sound plays through the headphones when headphones are plugged in and when they
are plugged in, speakers are not playing any audio.

tracker 2.1.4+ library needs ontology files from tracker binary
  package

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in tracker package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in tracker package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
See the Debian bug for more details.

The tracker 2.1.4 libraries will exit with an error, basically
crashing the app if they can't find /usr/share/tracker/domain-
ontologies/default.rule which is currently provided by the tracker
  binary package.

The most obvious consequence is this means that nautilus won't run if
tracker is not installed. But the tracker binary package isn't yet in
main. The MIR is LP: #1770877
