[Touch-packages] [Bug 1776173] Re: qt print dialog shipped with bionic ignores printer defaults
** Changed in: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu Cosmic) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to qtbase-opensource-src in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776173 Title: qt print dialog shipped with bionic ignores printer defaults Status in qtbase-opensource-src package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in qtbase-opensource-src source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in qtbase-opensource-src source package in Cosmic: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] All kde applications shipped with ubuntu and particularly kubuntu bionic print via the qt print dialog, that, unfortunately, does not seem to respect the defaults set for the printer. Specifically, every time one starts to print the "duplex" option gets reset to "none" even for those printers that were configured for "long edge" duplex by default. This may lead to a huge *waste of paper*: people print, expecting the duplex, do not get it, throw away the printout and reprint, for a total of 3 times the paper usage if the print dialog respected the default. [Test Case] 1) Install a printer that can duplex and configure it to do duplex with long-edge binding from the printer setup dialog. 2) Open a PDF with okular, and open the print dialog. Select the printer above. 3) Press the "Options" button to enlarge the dialog to also present the options. Select the "options" tab, right of "copies". Verify that Duplex Printing is preset to "None" This is wrong, because the printer was configured to do duplex with long-edge binding. 4) Print and close okular. 5) Reopen okular (with the same or another PDF file). Open again the print dialog and select the same printer. 6) Redo 3). Again see that Duplex Printing is preset to "None", instead of being at the default or at the previously used setup. [Regression Potential] The proposed patch only changes the default settings. The regression potential may be that the values are wrong, although they are already wrong. In case there is some bug it may lead to crashes. But this code is in the latest stable Qt release and I am not aware of any such crashes reported. [Other Info] The proposed patch is a backport of the following upstream commits: - https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.git/commit/?id=f6fd3f18d301cde3 - https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtbase.git/commit/?id=fa854f214a3c812e [Original Description] See also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395150 As a final comment and in general, I think that Bionic should be updated to use the QT 5.11 print subsystem (from 5.9.5) as soon as possible (at least via a kubuntu ppa). The QT 5 print dialog has always been extremely poor, with no possibility to provide information about things like print quality and resolution, paper type, stapling (for printers supporting it), etc. Now, QT 5.11 has finally a better print dialog and it would be great if the bionic users could use it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1783298] Re: [SRU] AuthInfoRequired negotiate in cups 2.2.7 in Bionic does not work
** Description changed: [Impact] If a print queue is set up with "auth-info-required=negotiate" because the server requires authentication (for example Kerberos) the user is - asked for user name and password on every jon, insteaf of the + asked for user name and password on every join, instead of the authentication working automatically. This worked correctly in 14.04 and 16.04. Also setting "AuthType Default" for "/" in cupsd.conf leads to be prompted for a password on commands like "lpatat -a", even for root. Works correctly in Xenial and Cosmic. [Test Case] Set up a queue pointing to a Kerberos-authenticated Windows server with "lpadmin ... -o auth-info-required=negotiate ..." OR set "AuthType Default" for "/" in cupsd.conf. When printing or running other commands accessing your print queue you will get prompted for credentials. With the fix the authentication will get automatic again. [Regression Potential] Low, as the fix are simple one-line corrections taken from upstream. [Original report] Hi, We have our printers configured to print to a Windows print server. In Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 our setup works fine but in 18.04 our setup seems to be acting more like AuthInfoRequired username, password i.e. it prompts for a password when printing rather than using the available Kerberos credentials. We are using an unaltered cupsd.conf file and are adding printers with the following command: lpadmin -p "printer" -D "Printer" -L "room" -v "smb://printers.cis.strath.ac.uk/printers" -o Media=A4 -o PageSize=A4 -o printer-error-policy=abort-job -o auth-info-required=negotiate -m "CIS /hp-officejet_pro_476_576_series-ps.ppd" the smb backend has been linked to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/samba/smbspool_krb5_wrapper (I've added this the apparmor profile as it's blocked by default) and the permissions on this file changed to 700 (owner root) as per manpage instructions. When using lp -d printer /tmp/test.txt I get the following response: Password for myuid on localhost? Typing my password gets the job accepted to the queue but it does spool to the Windows Print Server and in the error_log file I can see D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - AUTH_INFO_REQUIRED=negotiate D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - Started with uid=0 D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - AUTH_UID is not set As I said earlier this all works perfectly on Xenial and Trusty. The OSD for the backlit keyboard is displayed but no progress bar and no actual effect to the backlight. Almost as if the shell only understands laptops with a single key for controlling the keyboard backlight... Bug verified in cosmic on: * Asus UX331UAL * Apple Macbook Pro 12,1 * Apple Macbook Air All of them have these keys and they all fail in the same way. However it is not a kernel bug. The kernel interface (/sys/class/leds/*::kbd_backlight/*) works when I write to it directly. This seems to be a problem with Gnome Shell only. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1795764 Title: systemd: core: Fix edge case when processing /proc/self/mountinfo Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd source package in Xenial: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] kubernetes loaded inactive dead transient mount points grows https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/issues/57345 [Test Case] # cd /tmp # mkdir -p bind-test/abc # mount --bind bind-test bind-test # mount -t tmpfs tmpfs bind-test/abc # umount bind-test/abc # systemctl list-units --all | grep bind-test tmp-bind\x2dtest-abc.mount loaded inactive dead /tmp/bind-test/abc tmp-bind\x2dtest.mount loaded active mounted /tmp/bind-test Expected outcome (w/ the fix) : # cd /tmp # mkdir -p bind-test/abc # mount --bind bind-test bind-test # mount -t tmpfs tmpfs bind-test/abc # umount bind-test/abc # systemctl list-units --all | grep bind-test tmp-bind\x2dtest.mount loaded active mounted /tmp/bind-test [Regression Potential] This is a adapted version of 2 upstream fixes as the original upstream commit has been made on top on 2 functions mount_setup_new_unit() & mount_setup_existing_unit() that not yet exist systemd 229. It is easily adaptable because the current function mount_setup_unit() is dealing with both of at the moment instead of being individually separate in two distinct function. It is an adaptation of commits : [65d36b495] core: Fix edge case when processing /proc/self/mountinfo [03b8cfede] core: make sure to init mount params before calling mount_is_extrinsic() This patch changes mount_setup_unit() to prevent the just_mounted mount setup flag from being overwritten if it is set to true. This will allow all mount units created from /proc/self/mountinfo entries to be initialised properly. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1797386] Re: [SRU] OpenSSL 1.1.1 to 18.04 LTS
Hello Dimitri, or anyone else affected, Accepted ruby-openssl into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ruby- openssl/2.0.9-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** No longer affects: python3.6 (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: python3.7 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: ruby-openssl (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Fix Committed ** No longer affects: ruby-openssl (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: ruby2.5 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797386 Title: [SRU] OpenSSL 1.1.1 to 18.04 LTS Status in openssl package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in libio-socket-ssl-perl source package in Bionic: New Status in libnet-ssleay-perl source package in Bionic: New Status in nova source package in Bionic: New Status in openssl source package in Bionic: New Status in python-cryptography source package in Bionic: New Status in python2.7 source package in Bionic: New Status in python3.6 source package in Bionic: New Status in python3.7 source package in Bionic: New Status in r-cran-openssl source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in ruby-openssl source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in ruby2.5 source package in Bionic: New Bug description: [Impact] * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is an LTS release upstream, which will continue to receive security support for much longer than 1.1.0 series will. * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with support for TLS v1.3 which is expected to be rapidly adopted due to increased set of supported hashes & algoes, as well as improved handshake [re-]negotiation. * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with improved hw-acceleration capabilities. * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is ABI/API compatible with 1.1.0, however some software is sensitive to the negotiation handshake and may either need patches/improvements or clamp-down to maximum v1.2. However, tests on cosmic demonstrate that curl/nginx/google-chrome/mozilla-firefox connect and negotiate TLS v1.3 without issues. * Mitigation of discovered connectivity issues will be possible by clamping down to TLS v1.2 in either server-side or client-side software or by backporting relevant support fixes * Notable changes are listed here https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/TLS1.3 * Most common connectivity issues so far: - client verifies SNI in TLSv1.3 mode, yet client doesn't set hostname. Solution is client change to set hostname, or to clamp down the client to TLSv1.2. - session negotiation is different in TLSv1.3, existing client code may fail to create/negotiate/resume session. Clients need to learn how to use session callback. * This update bundles python 3.6 and 3.7 point releases [Other Info] * Previous FFe for OpenSSL in 18.10 is at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1793092 * TLS v1.3 support in NSS is expected to make it to 18.04 via security updates * TLS v1.3 support in GnuTLS is expected to be available in 19.04 * Test OpenSSL is being prepared in https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/3473 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1797386/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1763520] Re: after upgrade to bionic, printing fails without explanation / logs / debuggability
** Tags added: patch-forwarded-upstream -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1763520 Title: after upgrade to bionic, printing fails without explanation / logs / debuggability Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in gtk+3.0 source package in Bionic: In Progress Status in gtk+3.0 source package in Cosmic: In Progress Bug description: [Impact] The problem occurs when the printer's driver package is updated and with this the PPD is replaced and one of the default settings of the queue is not available any more in the new PPD file. Then the setting is prefixed with "Custom." and with this the jobs fail. See comment #15 for more info. [Test Case] - Create a print queue with a PPD. - evince an arbitrary PDF file - Click the print icon - In the print dialog choose the newly created queue and choose some uncommon paper size (not custom). Click "Print". - Check /var/log/cups/error_log, the page size gets correctly received. - Close evince. - Stop CUPS, edit the PPD file removing the paper size you have selected for your job in the PageSize, PageRegion, PaperDimension, and ImageableArea lines. - Start CUPS. - Open the same PDF file again with evince, click Print and then select "Print" in the print dialog without changing anything. - The job fails, in /var/log/cups/error_log you see that the page size is prefixed with "Custom.". With the fixed package installed the job will print. [Regression Potential] The change applies only to saved settings of the print dialog not matching with any of the settings available in the PPD file. In rare cases the fix could fail by mis-understanding the setting and this way not being effective. For options which do not support setting custom values (the vast majority) the patch should always prevent a job failure though. I then learned that one of the patches applied by Debian and inherited also by Ubuntu has the goal of versioning library symbols to avoid conflicts. Unfortunately said patch is not updated regularly with each release of OpenSSL, resulting, like in my case, in symbols available in the public header files but masked through versioning in the shared library binary. The attached patch fixes my need by adding `EVP_PKEY_asn1_set_item` to the list, but you might consider an internal review of your release process to make sure that the list of symbols is updated whenever a new upstream releases makes new functions publicly available. I believe this bug is important, as it stops everyone using official packages from using third-party ENGINEs that require to use that function to set special handling of ASN.1 format, which basically includes every ENGINE that would add support for cryptosystems that upstream OpenSSL does not support (defying the purpose of using some ENGINEs). The patch I propose covers my use case, but basically the package as is results unusable to any user of any application that may require functions available in the public headers but accidentally masked in the symbol versioning step. The ideal outcome of fixing this issue would consist in making the versioning patch dynamic, checking when symbols are added (or removed) in newer releases and updating the list accordingly. You might have the same versioning patch applied in other releases, so it's worth tagging this bug also for those to make the handling of the exposed symbols consistent. Finally I also opened a similar bug against the equivalent Debian oldstable-backports package, but I opened an Ubuntu-specific bug report because 16.04 ships a more recent version of the package and the inherited symbol versioning patch has already been modified compared with the original Debian one. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1797386] Re: [SRU] OpenSSL 1.1.1 to 18.04 LTS
Hello Dimitri, or anyone else affected, Accepted r-cran-openssl into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/r-cran- openssl/1.0.1-1ubuntu1.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. ** Changed in: r-cran-openssl (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Fix Committed ** No longer affects: r-cran-openssl (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: libio-socket-ssl-perl (Ubuntu) ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-bionic ** No longer affects: libnet-ssleay-perl (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: nova (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: python2.7 (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: python-cryptography (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openssl in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797386 Title: [SRU] OpenSSL 1.1.1 to 18.04 LTS Status in openssl package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in python3.6 package in Ubuntu: New Status in python3.7 package in Ubuntu: New Status in ruby-openssl package in Ubuntu: New Status in ruby2.5 package in Ubuntu: New Status in libio-socket-ssl-perl source package in Bionic: New Status in libnet-ssleay-perl source package in Bionic: New Status in nova source package in Bionic: New Status in openssl source package in Bionic: New Status in python-cryptography source package in Bionic: New Status in python2.7 source package in Bionic: New Status in python3.6 source package in Bionic: New Status in python3.7 source package in Bionic: New Status in r-cran-openssl source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in ruby-openssl source package in Bionic: New Status in ruby2.5 source package in Bionic: New Bug description: [Impact] * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is an LTS release upstream, which will continue to receive security support for much longer than 1.1.0 series will. [Test Case] * Rebuild all reverse dependencies * Execute autopkg tests for all of them * Clamp down to TLS v1.2 software that does not support TLS v1.3 (e.g. mongodb) * Backport TLS v1.3 support patches, where applicable [Regression Potential] * Connectivity interop is the biggest issues which will be unavoidable with introducing TLS v1.3. Public bug reported: After connecting to a guest wifi, I notice that avahi-daemon is using an unreasonable amount of CPU time on my laptop. gdb shows a busy loop in avahi_simple_poll_iterate(). strace output looks like: write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 read(6, "WW", 10) = 2 poll([{fd=6, events=POLLIN}, {fd=16, events=POLLIN}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN}, {fd=14, events=POLLIN}, {fd=13, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}, {fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN}], 10, 0) = 4 ([{fd=16, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=13, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=12, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=10, revents=POLLIN}]) write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 read(6, "WW", 10) = 2 poll([{fd=6, events=POLLIN}, {fd=16, events=POLLIN}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN}, {fd=14, events=POLLIN}, {fd=13, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}, {fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN}], 10, 0) = 4 ([{fd=16, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=13, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=12, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=10, revents=POLLIN}]) write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 read(6, "", 10) = 4 poll([{fd=6, events=POLLIN}, {fd=16, events=POLLIN}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN}, {fd=14, events=POLLIN}, {fd=13, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}, {fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN}], 10, 0) = 4 ([{fd=16, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=13, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=12, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=10, revents=POLLIN}]) write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 write(7, "W", 1)= 1 read(6, "", 10) = 4 poll([{fd=6, events=POLLIN}, {fd=16, events=POLLIN}, {fd=15, events=POLLIN}, {fd=14, events=POLLIN}, {fd=13, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}, {fd=11, events=POLLIN}, {fd=10, events=POLLIN}, {fd=3, events=POLLIN}, {fd=8, events=POLLIN}], 10, 0) = 4 ([{fd=16, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=13, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=12, revents=POLLIN}, {fd=10, revents=POLLIN}]) [...] (repeats endlessly) fd 6 and 7 are two ends of a pipe that avahi-daemon has open to itself. It looks like avahi-daemon /eventually/ settles down, but this takes a long time. I'm not sure what to look for to explain this busy looping. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1818520] Re: FFe: tdb 1.3.18
This bug was fixed in the package tdb - 1.3.18-0ubuntu1 --- tdb (1.3.18-0ubuntu1) disco; urgency=medium * New upstream version: 1.3.18 (LP: #1818520) - d/p/40_test_transaction_expand_non_fatal.diff: refresh to get rid of fuzz - d/rules: use "find" for the cleanup target instead of listing every single file or directory we have to remove. - d/libtdb1.symbols: added new symbols for 1.3.17 and 1.3.18 - d/libtdb-dev.install: also install the static library - d/rules: python3 is what the tdb buildsystem looks for by default, which makes --extra-python take python2 and not python3. Also, don't specify PYTHON and let it pick python3 as it wants. -- Andreas Hasenack Fri, 08 Mar 2019 13:10:46 + ** Changed in: tdb (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to tdb in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1818520 Title: FFe: tdb 1.3.18 Status in tdb package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: This is part of the effort to remove python2 from the desktop images (see bug #1440381). It's needed for the samba FFe bug #1818518. Samba 4.10.0 needs tdb >= 1.3.17. Version 1.3.18 introduces (python and otherwise) build fixes for issues in 1.3.17. tdb already builds python2 and python3 packages: this bug is about the new version being needed just to satisfy samba 4.10's dependency. We can't drop python-tdb (the py2 version) because bzr-git has a Recommends on it. There are no specific release notes for tdb from upstream, as its development is closely tied to samba. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1819255] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 suspends intermittently
** Description changed: I am using Lenovo Thinkpad E450 with Ubuntu 18.04.2 and kernel version is Linux 4.14.105-0414105-generic. I am currently not able to suspend my laptop properly. I first experienced this when I was using the kernel 4.15.46. Expected behavior when commanded to suspend: Display goes black, the CPU fan is switched off, the power LED pulsates showing that the computer is in suspend mode. This should happen whenever the PC is suspended using the command 'sudo systemctl suspend' or closing the lid or choosing suspend in the menu options by long-pressing the power button. What actually happens: If any of the above methods is used to suspend the PC, the display goes black, the PC goes to suspend state after a few seconds, but remains in suspend only for a maximum of 7-10 seconds. After that it automatically resumes, with the display trying to show the lockscreen if lid is not closed. If lid is closed, then I know it has resumed as the power LED stays on and the fan runs. As time goes, it intermittently goes to suspend for a few seconds and resumes back. There is no unnatural behavior according to 'journalctl' or 'dmesg'.
