[Touch-packages] [Bug 1826786] Re: High CPU usage of the Xorg process

2019-04-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This appears to be a combination of multiple issues:

 * Firefox doesn't support hardware video decoding.

 * Your CPU doesn't support hardware video decoding.

 * Firefox is software-rendered.

So I don't think the high CPU of Xorg or any other related process is
unexpected or a bug. Except maybe in your final statement:

> When I close firefox xorg ix in excution in the same way.

Can you please explain what that means?

** Summary changed:

- Bug xorg
+ High CPU usage of the Xorg process

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1826636] Re: Xorg freeze

2019-04-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1826606] Re: mouse sometimes only works after system reboot

2019-04-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please:

1. Reproduce the problem.

2. Reboot to fix the problem and then run:

   journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and send us the file 'prevboot.txt'

If you could still log in using just the keyboard while the mouse was
dead and didn't need to reboot, then use this command instead:

   journalctl -b0 > curboot.txt

Title:
Mouse wheel scroll does not work after upgrade to Ubuntu 19.04 with
Linux kernel 5.0 (but kernel 4.18 works)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 19.04 and found that scrolling with mouse
wheel does not work any more. My mouse is Microsoft Wireless Optical
Mouse 2000. The mouse is connected to USB port via wireless receiver
  (Microsoft Wireless Mouse Receiver v1.0).

I've found that problem is related to new Linux kernel 5.0. When I boot with
previous kernel 4.18 all works good.

The problem is reproducible with xorg and with wayland.

Bug description:
  com.ubuntu.gallery 2.9.1.1049

Video thumbnails always fail to generate in the gallery app and the thumbnail
crash with bug 1364475 or bug 1356331. The thumbnail is correctly generated in
the video scope for the same video.
It also affects video recorded by the camera

http://samplemedia.linaro.org/H264/tears_of_steel_1080p_H264_24fps.mov
  2. Copy it to /home/phablet/Videos with MTP (nautilus or gvfs-copy)
  3. Open the gallery-app
  4. Locate the video in the gallery and wait until the thumbnail is generated

  ACTUAL RESULT
The thumbnail shows the generic video icon and the thumbnailer crashes

Title:
Bluetooth headset HSP/HFP mode not working in Bionic

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
There is a previous bug with almost the same title, but for Xenial
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1549163). I
have had this issue in Artful, and when commented on the old bug, I
was asked to raise a new one instead. I waited to see if Bionic fixed
it for me, but it does not seem to work still. So!

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. enable bluetooth on computer and switch on the headset.
  2. pair and connect the headset
  3. go to settings to switch headset to HSP/HFP mode to enable mic
  4. save and close window.

  Expected behaviour:
  1. mic should be enabled and headset should be usable to attend calls on
laptop.

  Behaviour in error:
  1. Headset profile switches back to A2DP and mic is not enabled.

I am using a generic bluetooth headset on a fresh updated Kubuntu
  18.04 bionic with plasma DE.

  Software versions:
  Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic
  Bluez version: 5.48-0ubuntu3
  pulseaudio: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7
  pulseaudio-module-bluetooth: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7

  Additional information:
Running "pacmd list-cards" says that HSF/HFP is 'not available' on the
headset:

  Output from Headset section:
  profiles:
a2dp_sink: High Fidelity Playback (A2DP Sink) (priority 40,
available: unknown)
  headset_head_unit: Headset Head Unit (HSP/HFP) (priority 30,
available: no)
off: Off (priority 0, available: yes)
  active profile:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is an LTS release upstream, which will continue to
receive security support for much longer than 1.1.0 series will.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with support for TLS v1.3 which is expected to
be rapidly adopted due to increased set of supported hashes & algoes,
as well as improved handshake [re-]negotiation.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 comes with improved hw-acceleration capabilities.

   * OpenSSL 1.1.1 is ABI/API compatible with 1.1.0, however some
software is sensitive to the negotiation handshake and may either need
  patches/improvements or clamp-down to maximum v1.2.

  [Test Case]

   * Rebuild all reverse dependencies

   * Execute autopkg tests for all of them

   * Clamp down to TLS v1.2 software that does not support TLS v1.3
  (e.g. mongodb)

   * Backport TLS v1.3 support patches, where applicable

[Test cases for the python updates]

  python3.7 is a preview in bionic as a non-supported/non-default
version of python3. Passing it's own autopkgtests is sufficient
validation for python3.7. It includes a point release update, with
  OpenSSL 1.1.1 compat and features.

python3.6 not only has OpenSSL 1.1.1 compat and features patches, but
also includes a point release update to 3.6.8. It has been part of the
full-archive rebuild and regression analysis. Autopkgtests were
triggered for python3.6 and python3-defaults with regressions already
fixed in the individual packages as appropriate.

python2.7 has the update from .15~rc1 to .15 final, with OpenSSL 1.1.1
compat only. It has been part of the full-archive rebuild and
regression analysis. Autopkgtests were triggered for python2.7 and
python-defaults with regressions already fixed in the individual
  packages as appropriate.

The archive rebuilds done, were commulative with OpenJDK 11, OpenSSL 1.1.1
and python point releases as seen in:

http://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20181222-bionic.html

http://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20181222-test-bionic.html

  And analyzed in

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tMIwlwoHH_1h5sbvUbNac6-HIPKi3e0Xr8ebchIOU1A/edit#gid=147857652

  [Regression Potential]

   * Connectivity interop is the biggest issues which will be
unavoidable with introducing TLS v1.3. However, tests on cosmic
  demonstrate that curl/nginx/google-chrome/mozilla-firefox connect and
  negotiate TLS v1.3 without issues.

   * Mitigation of discovered connectivity issues will be possible by
clamping down to TLS v1.2 in either server-side or client-side
software or by backporting relevant support fixes

   * Notable changes are listed here
  https://wiki.openssl.org/index.php/TLS1.3

   * Most common connectivity issues so far:
     - client verifies SNI in TLSv1.3 mode, yet client doesn't set hostname.
Solution is client change to set hostname, or to clamp down the client to
TLSv1.2.

     - session negotiation is different in TLSv1.3, existing client code
may fail to create/negotiate/resume session. Clients need to learn how
  to use session callback.

   * This update bundles python 3.6 and 3.7 point releases

  [Other Info]

   * Previous FFe for OpenSSL in 18.10 is at
     https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1793092

   * TLS v1.3 support in NSS is expected to make it to 18.04 via
  security updates

   * TLS v1.3 support in GnuTLS is expected to be available in 19.04

   * Test OpenSSL is being prepared in
     https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-service/+archive/ubuntu/3473

  [Autopkgtest Regressions]

  dovecot/armhf - flakey

libnet-ssleay-perl - awaiting sru accept into proposed of
libnet-ssleay-perl and libio-socket-ssl-perl due to fixes and
  versioned breaks.

linux* - rebuild testcases passes (for some edge flavours the build
fails in non-ssl portions of the build),

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1592177] Re: Focus drops from search input in GtkFileChooserDialog after first character, which stops searching (broken behaviour)

So when shall this hit the regular updates?

Focus drops from search input in GtkFileChooserDialog after first
character, which stops searching (broken behaviour)

Bug description:
  * Impact
The focus gets removed from the search entry widget in the fileselector while
typing which makes it difficult to use

  * Test case

  Steps:
  1. Open Gedit
  2. Choose Open -> Other Documents... to open a GtkFileChooserDialog
  3. Press on the search button next to Open
  4. Type what you are searching for

  Expected behaviour:
Focus remains in the search input until I finish typing then results come up

  What happens instead:
Searching stops after I enter the first characters because focus is lost from
the search input

  * Regression potential

The change is desactivating/reactivating typeahead in the gtk
fileselector, check that this feature keeps working as it should
(keyboard navigate by typing the first chars of a file/folder, that
should move the focus to the first matching item and allows to
  navigate by hitting enter)

I have noticed that after upgrading to GNOME 3.20 on Ubuntu GNOME
16.04 that the built-in search functionality is almost impossible to
use in the GTK file chooser (though it is the same one that allows you
to save files as well as choose them).

So if one types something into the search, after they have typed the
first letter it will immediately select the top search result meaning
one has to re-select the search box, this happens for every letter so
searching for a long string becomes very annoying. If one carries on
typing once it has selected the top result and unselected the search
box it will start searching in the other search which only looks at
  results.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1826735] [NEW] .uuid files in font directories not removed during purge

2019-04-28 Thread Tom Reynolds
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 19.04 (amd64):

Removing fonts-liberation2 (2.00.5-1) ...
dpkg: warning: while removing fonts-liberation2, directory

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1593317] Re: @reboot jobs don't start for sssd users

2019-04-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package cron - 3.0pl1-133ubuntu1

---
cron (3.0pl1-133ubuntu1) eoan; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/control:
+ Move MTA to Suggests field.
- d/cron.default: change to a deprecated message to make it clear
that the file is no longer in use.
  * Dropped changes, no longer needed:
- Drop upstart system jobs; transition completed as of 18.04.
- Handle /etc/init.d/cron symlink→ real file transition; completed as of
  18.04.

cron (3.0pl1-133) unstable; urgency=medium

  * SECURITY: Fix bypass of /etc/cron.{allow,deny} on failure to open
If these files exist, then they must be readable by the user executing
crontab(1). Users will now be denied by default if they aren't.
(LP: #1813833)
  * SECURITY: Fix for possible DoS by use-after-free
A user reported a use-after-free condition in the cron daemon, leading to a
possible Denial-of-Service scenario by crashing the daemon.
(Closes: #809167)
  * SECURITY: DoS: Fix unchecked return of calloc()
Florian Weimer discovered that a missing check for the return value of
calloc() could crash the daemon, which could be triggered by a very
large crontab created by a user.
  * Enforce maximum crontab line count of 1000 to prevent a malicious user
from creating an excessivly large crontab. The daemon will log a warning
for existing files, and crontab(1) will refuse to create new ones.
  * Add d/NEWS altering to the new 1000 lines limit.
  * Move /var/run/crond.reboot to /run/crond.reboot.
  * crontab.5: Reverse the info on tilde expansion. When setting PATH, most
shells will not expand a tilde. Thanks, Tim Landscheidt, for the analysis.
(Closes: #801328)
  * Fixes for numerous man page issues. Remove trailing whitespace, use proper
escapes, etc. Thanks, Bjarni Ingi Gislason! (Closes: #893575, #893579)
  * crontab.1: Drop duplicate DIAGNOSTICS header.
  * daemon: Only support the 'x' debug option in debug builds.

cron (3.0pl1-132) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Christian Kastner ]
  * postinst: Properly test for regular file
cron.postinst checked for a regular file by parsing the stat output,
instead of simply relying on test(1)
  * Mark package cron as Multi-Arch: foreign (Closes: #878363)

  [ Stéphane Blondon ]
  * Add forgotten '\n' to a line in the crontab header (Closes: #898119)

cron (3.0pl1-131) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Boyuan Yang ]
  * debian/control:
- Merge duplicated build-dependency entry for debhelper
- Update Vcs-* fields and use git repo under Salsa Debian group
  (Closes: #913484)
- Add dependency to sensible-utils (Closes: #913483)
  * debian/rules: Do not explicitly invoke dpkg-architecture for architecture
variables. Instead we are now using /usr/share/dpkg/architecture.mk to
provide them

  [ Bjarni Ingi Gislason ]
  * crontab.1: Some format fixes in the manual. (Closes: #893576)

  [ Christian Kastner ]
  * d/control:
- Switch Build-Depends from debhelper to debhelper-compat
- Add Rules-Requires-Root: no
We don't need (fake)root for building the package
- Drop ancient dpkg Pre-Depends and Breaks
The versioned dependencies are older than oldoldstable
- Bump debhelper compatibility level to 12
- Switch to https in Homepage field
- Bump Standards-Version to 4.3.0
- binary package cron:
  + Add Pre-Depends: ${misc:Pre-Depends} for init-system-helpers
  + Switch cron MTA Recommends to default-mta | mail-transport-agent
Recommend these virtual packages rather than specific MTAs
+ Move unqualified debhelper control files to from * to cron.*
  * Remove now obsolete d/compat
  * d/rules:
- systemd sequence has been removed in compatibility level 11
- Drop override_dh_compress
Examples are no longer compressed in compatibility level 12
  * d/copyright:
- Switch URL to official MRCF 1.0 policy
- Ustream-Contact -> Upstream-Contact
  * Remove ancient cruft from maintainer scripts
This cruft dealt with conffile tasks from before oldoldstable. As we don't
provide a direct upgrade path from older releases, this is just maintenance
overhead
  * Drop empty preinst maintainer script, as a result of the cruft removal
  * d/watch
- Update to format version 4
- Switch to https
  * Remove trailing whitespace from changelog
  * Remove trailing whitespace from debian/control

cron (3.0pl1-130) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/postinst: Do not do check if /var/spool/cron/crontabs if empty
(Closes: 892720, 892721, 892724)
  * debian/cron.service:
  - Add dependency on nss-user-lookup.target in the definition which
properly fixes the issues when cron is started before centralised user
repositories are available (e.g. LDAP or Active Directory). This
should avoid errors in syslog similar to the following:

  * Don't crash collecting transitive dependencies when package has no candidate
(LP: #1825886)
  * Use mark_install_adjusted() in rewind_cache()
The original cache had packages marked with adjustments thus rewinding
should also do adjustments to reach the same state.
Also not using mark_install_adjusted() crashes when apt raises error on
held packages. (LP: #1826157)

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Unattended-upgrades may crash when a package in apt's cache does not have
a candidate and it is visited when finding packages to adjust.
   * The crash occurs when apt.Package.candidate is None and the fix is
checking if .candidate is truthy and it that case is safe to reference the
.dependencies attribute.

  [Test Case]

   * Watch the error not happening anymore.

  [Regression Potential]

   * The fix is very small and is not likely to cause any regression.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Unattended-upgrades may crash when rewinding cache due to not adjusting
package candidates before marking them to upgrade/install.
   * The fix is using adjusted marking that in effect rewinds the cache to the
right, adjusted state.

  [Test Case]

adjustments and it is ran during the build.
