[Touch-packages] [Bug 1811580] Re: systemd fails to start sshd at reboot

Title:
systemd fails to start sshd at reboot

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
So far reported issues turned out to be:
  - obsolete/buggy/vulnerable 3rd party provided kernels
  - bad permissions on /

Please ensure / is owned by root:root.
Please ensure you are running up to date kernels.

  ===

  Ubuntu 16.04.5, systemd 229-4ubuntu21.15

The latest systemd update has somehow changed the method it uses to
start 'ssh.service' i.e. 'sshd'. systemd fails to start sshd if
  /etc/ssh/sshd_config contains "UsePrivilegeSeparation yes" and
/var/run/sshd/ does not already exist. Being as this is the default,
virtually EVERY Ubuntu 16.04 server in the world has
UsePrivilegeSeparation set to yes. Furthermore, at the time when the
user performs 'apt upgrade' and receives the newest version of
systemd, /var/run/sshd/ already exists, so sshd successfully reloads
for as long as the server doesn't get rebooted. BUT, as soon as the
server is rebooted for any reason, /var/run/sshd/ gets cleaned away,
and sshd fails to start, causing the remote user to be completely
locked out of his system. This is a MAJOR issue for millions of VPS
servers worldwide, as they are all about to get locked out of their
servers and potentially lose data. The next reboot is a ticking time
bomb waiting to spring. The bomb can be defused by implicitly setting
  'UsePrivilegeSeparation no' in /etc/ssh/sshd_config, however
unsuspecting administrators are bound to be caught out by the
millions. I got caught by it in the middle of setting up a new server
yesterday, and it took a whole day to find the source.

The appropriate fix would be to ensure that systemd can successfully
'start ssh.service' even when 'UsePrivilegeSeparation yes' is set.
systemd needs to test that /var/run/sshd/ exists before starting sshd,
just as the init.d script for sshd does. openssl could also be patched
so that UsePrivilegeSeparation is no longer enabled by default,
however that is not going to solve the problem for millions of pre-
existing config files. Only an update to openssl to force-override
that flag to 'no' would solve the problem. Thus systemd still needs to
be responsible for ensuring that it inits sshd properly by ensuring
that /var/run/sshd/ exists before it sends the 'start' command.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1178272] Re: Lubuntu: banshee, rhythmbox, etc cannot play audio without pulseaudio or gstreamer1.0-alsa

2019-07-13 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since
that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some
of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently
supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly
upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

The Lubuntu standard installation comes without jack, and without pulse, just
plain alsa. Gstreamer applications (rhythmbox, banshee) used to work fine after
installing "ubuntu-restricted-extras", which pulls in the usual gstreamer
plugins.
On my system, gstreamer applications stopped working. They report:
  > Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
  > Cannot connect to server request channel
  > jack server is not running or cannot be started
Since there is no jack on this system, never was, and is not intended to be
there, I cannot understand this message. The applications do not produce sound.

This looks like gstreamer tries to start up jackd, regardless whether
  it is installed or not.

Bug description:
Submitting this bug report with the SRU template, but hopefully we can
go ahead have this uploaded before the final images have been built.

  [Impact]

   * The "Create Document" submenu in Thunar does not expand to a usable length.

   * The submenu is displayed at just a few pixels tall, enough to see menu
items as you scroll, but not enough to read any item.

   * This breaks a standard use case for file managers: creating new files.

   * The proposed upload fixes the bug by loading the menu items synchronously,
making the menu load with the items already populated instead of having to
redraw once the items are added.

   * The patch provided comes from the upstream maintainer.

  [Test Case]

   * Open Thunar.

   * Right click in the blank space (not on an item).

   * Move the cursor to the "Create Document" menu.
 * Bug Present: The submenu is displayed but short, and no items are
visible.
 * Bug Resolved: The submenu is displayed, items present in the ~/Templates
folder are displayed.

  [Regression Potential]

   * Regression potential is minimal:
 * The modified code affects only the drawing of the submenu items.
 * The submenu is already ununsable, no items are displayed.

   * Some limited testing has already been completed:
 * 2 users confirmed the patch fixes the issue on the upstream bug report.
 * 2 Xubuntu team members (bluesabre, Unit193) have also confirmed the
patch and no regressions.

  [Original Report]

In Thunar, when I right click to create a new file, the menu shows up so
small that I can't see the options. I have rebooted and the problem persists.
Haven't checked other file managers yet. Running Xubuntu 19.04 (Development
Branch), Thunar 1.8.4.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1836444] [NEW] Merge qt4-x11 4:4.8.7+dfsg-18 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2019-07-13 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

Please merge qt4-x11 4:4.8.7+dfsg-18 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main)

I cannot work on this merge myself. I filed this bug as a reference.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta:
  * Merge with Debian since qtchooser has versioned Breaks. (LP: #1584654)
  * Add one more macro to qt4-x11 moc to fix failing to parse BOOST_JOIN.
  * No-change rebuild for libpng soname change.
  * Rebuild against libmysqlclient20.
  * Merge with Debian; remaining changes:
- Pass list-missing to dh_install instead of fail-missing, since we don't
  install the QtWebkit headers
- Make sure libqt4-opengl-dev depends on gles libs for armel and armhf
- Do not package ibase/firebird and sqlite2 package
  + remove from debian/control
  + libqt4-sql doesn't recommend libqt4-sql-ibase and libqt4-sql-sqlite2
- Also exclude webkit examples from dh_shlibdeps
- Do not build libqt4-phonon, disable in debian/control
- Add debian/Trolltech.conf and install it in libqtcore4.install
- Build with -no-neon on armel and armhf
- Build with -no-javascript-jit on arm64
- Add patches:
  + kubuntu_10_ibus_input_method.diff
  + kubuntu_12_fix_stack_protector.diff
  + kubuntu_28_xi2.1.patch
  + kubuntu_30_translucent_drag_pixmap.diff
  + kubuntu_37_cups_settings.diff
  + kubuntu_39_fix_medium_font.diff
  + kubuntu_40_disable_neon.patch
  + kubuntu_43_no_meego_helper.patch
  + kubuntu_93_disable_overlay_scrollbars.diff
  + kubuntu_94_xinput_valuators_fix.diff
  + kubuntu_95_qt_disable_bounce.diff
  + kubuntu_97_a11y_qt_and_qml_backport.diff
  + kubuntu_98_a11y_fix_crash.diff
  + kubuntu_glib-honor-ExcludeSocketNotifiers-flag.diff
  + kubuntu_qclipboard_delay.diff
  + kubuntu_qclipboard_fix_recursive.diff
- Drop powerpc_designer_gstabs.diff, it breaks powerpc
  * Update symbols files.

Changelog entries since current eoan version 4:4.8.7+dfsg-7ubuntu1:

qt4-x11 (4:4.8.7+dfsg-18) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.
