[Touch-packages] [Bug 1847183] Re: Intel video driver problem
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. The message "E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages." tells you prior commands have had errors that have not corrected, is support is appropriate. If it's a bug, it's related to the user/operator (who hoped it'd go away). You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community- support/709 For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/684816 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1847183 Title: Intel video driver problem Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: New to Linux/UBUNTU but expert in Windows/programming. When modemmanager scans the serial ports for modems, upsd is unable to open the port configured for an UPS. There's also one ICL pci-id which was added recently (not in 5.3). [Test case] The proper way to test is to have an actual machine and boot it up with the updated stack, but since these are just pci-id's with no regression potential on older hw, it should be fine to just accept them. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1838525] Re: LVM setup fails to install grub on virtio storage
Verifying the fix from the PPA: (k)rafaeldtinoco@keoan:~$ ls /dev/disk/by-id ls: cannot access '/dev/disk/by-id': No such file or directory (k)rafaeldtinoco@keoan:~$ sudo grub-mkdevicemap --no-floppy -m - (hd0) /dev/vda (hd1) /dev/vdb This is the expected behavior (by installer). It will try to install grub to "/dev/mapper" and will fail. The default boot option will also be "/dev/mapper". [Test Case] * Download netboot files from current installer (vmlinuz and initrd files). * Create a KVM guest running from these files, with a NIC connected to the internet. * Initiate a network installation inside the KVM guest, choosing the Entire Disk - LVM partitioning option. * Wait installation to finish and to start the grub-install phase. It will ask where to install grub, having, as default, "/dev/mapper". By default, it might simply try to grub-install /dev/mapper, which will also fail. * That happens because /dev/disk/by-id/ has an unexpected (by the installer) symlink added by lvm2 package that grub-installer (used by debian-installer) does not expect (when using grub-mkdevice command). [Simplified Test Case] - * To add a PV + VG + LVM in a KVM guest to an empty virtio disk, for + * To add a PV + VG + LVM in a KVM guest to an empty virtio disk, for example, and to check if the command: - grub-mkdevice --no-floppy -m - + grub-mkdevicemap --no-floppy -m - lists /dev/vdX1 in front of /dev/vdX. This will be a sign that: /dev/disk/by-id/*lvm* file exists and will be enough to confuse installer. [Regression Potential] There are 3 alternatives to fix this and I have chosen the one I believe has the smaller potential for any type of regression. Comment #30 describes what caused the regression and these 3 alternatives: (1) To revert this change for current release, since this rule was added to "make navigation a bit easier using PV UUIDs", as the commit says. We would worry about installer changes in the next release. (2) Another possibility would be to change the logic inside "grub- mkdevicemap.c: make_device_map()->grub_util_iterate_devices()" to ignore all symlinks from /dev/disk/by-id/ containing lvm-pv-uuid-*. We would not have to worry about this in the next release if using debian- installer. (3) Another option would be to change grub-installer package/logic. Unfortunately, a few days before the full freeze, I don't think messing with the installer would be a good option to avoid regressions (potential regression item would grow in significance). => I'm choosing (2) because ubuntu foundations already faced a similar situation, when grub-mkdevicemap.c file was removed from grub2 code and they re-added it by using a quilt patch, assuming it was the easiest and better to maintain. I'm doing something similar, patching the patch that creates grub-mkdevicemap.c file again to ignore /dev/disk/by-id/lvm-pv- uuid-* files (like it already does for other symlinks, actually). [Other Info] Comment #26 has the TL;DR version of the problem. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1838525/comments/26 [Original Description] The Eoan debian-installer ISO fails to install GRUB on LVM installs with virtio storage, as it runs grub-install with /dev/mapper as a target (a directory), even if instructed to target a device. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1847077] Re: Xorg crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1847077 Title: Xorg crash Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: oct 07 06:10:22 linux systemd[14697]: Listening on D-Bus User Message Bus Socket oct 07 06:10:22 linux systemd[14697]: Reached target Sockets. oct 07 06:10:22 linux systemd[14697]: Reached target Basic System. oct 07 06:10:22 linux systemd[14697]: Reached target Default. oct 07 06:10:22 linux systemd[14697]: Startup finished in 52ms. oct 07 06:10:22 linux systemd[1]: Started User Manager for UID 121. oct 07 06:10:22 linux systemd[14697]: Started D-Bus User Message Bus. oct 07 06:10:22 linux dbus-daemon[14711]: [session uid=121 pid=14711] AppArmor D oct 07 06:10:22 linux gnome-shell[14719]: Failed to apply DRM plane transform 0: oct 07 06:10:22 linux gnome-shell[14719]: WL: error in client communication (pid oct 07 06:10:22 linux org.gnome.Shell.desktop[14719]: (EE) oct 07 06:10:22 linux org.gnome.Shell.desktop[14719]: Fatal server error: oct 07 06:10:22 linux org.gnome.Shell.desktop[14719]: (EE) wl_drm@4: error 0: au oct 07 06:10:22 linux org.gnome.Shell.desktop[14719]: (EE) oct 07 06:10:22 linux gnome-shell[14719]: X Wayland crashed; exiting oct 07 06:10:22 linux gnome-session[14713]: gnome-session-binary[14713]: WARNING oct 07 06:10:22 linux gnome-session-binary[14713]: WARNING: App 'org.gnome.Shell oct 07 06:10:22 linux gnome-session-binary[14713]: Unrecoverable failure in requ oct 07 06:10:22 linux gdm-launch-environment][14693]: pam_unix(gdm-launch-enviro oct 07 06:10:22 linux gdm3[1178]: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0,643077 seconds oct 07 06:10:22 linux gdm3[1178]: Child process -14709 was already dead. oct 07 06:10:22 linux gdm3[1178]: Child process 14693 was already dead. oct 07 06:10:22 linux gdm3[1178]: Unable to kill session worker process oct 07 06:10:23 linux gdm-launch-environment][14732]: pam_unix(gdm-launch-enviro oct 07 06:10:23 linux systemd-logind[738]: New session c503 of user gdm. oct 07 06:10:23 linux systemd[1]: Started Session c503 of user gdm. oct 07 06:10:23 linux systemd-logind[738]: Removed session c502. oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: (--) Log file renamed oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: X.Org X Server 1.20.4 oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: X Protocol Version 11, oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: Build Operating System oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: Current Operating Syst oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: Kernel command line: B oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: Build Date: 02 May 201 oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: xorg-server-hwe-18.04 oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: Current version of pix oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: Before reporti oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: to make sure t oct 07 06:10:23 linux /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[14737]: Markers: (--) probed, ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-31.33~18.04.1-generic 5.0.21 Uname: Linux 5.0.0-31-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.7 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Mon Oct 7 06:30:25 2019 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 6.30.223.271+bdcom, 5.0.0-27-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.271+bdcom,

(doesn't exist) but it returns SERVFAIL instead of NXDOMAIN. It seems to do the following steps: 1. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. with EDNS0, DO-bit and 4k size. 2. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. with EDNS0 and DO-bit. 3. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. with EDNS0. 4. Ask upstream for SOA of test.asdf. without EDNS0. 5. Repeat 1-4 for DS of test.asdf. 6. Repeat 1-5 for asdf. 7. Ask upstream for SOA of . with EDNS0, DO-bit and 4k size. 8. Ask upstream for DNSKEY of . with EDNS0, DO-bit and 4k size. The upstream returns an unfragmented NXDOMAIN response for steps 1-6, an unfragmented NOERROR response for step 7 and a fragmented NOERROR response for step 8 which is the correct behaviour. DNSSEC records are included in the response if the DO-bit in the request was set. systemd-resolved should take the response from step 1 and start with validation instead of starting useless retries with reduced feture set. Step 3 and 4 are completely useless and probably lead to the SERVFAIL because I have configured it with DNSSEC=yes to prevent downgrade attacks. This regression seems to be caused by the patch resolved-Mitigate- DVE-2018-0001-by-retrying-NXDOMAIN-with.patch. The downgrade logic should only be executed if it is configured as DNSSEC=allow-downgrade or DNSSEC=no. See also https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/8608#issuecomment-396927885. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1838525] Re: LVM setup fails to install grub on virtio storage
The following commit: commit 417e52c13a8156b11c25c411d44bda8b32bf87e4 Author: Peter Rajnoha Date: Tue Feb 18 07:27:21 2014 udev: create /dev/disk/by-id/lvm-pv-uuid- symlink for a PV We already have /dev/disk/by-id/dm-uuid-... (which encompasses the VG UUID and LV UUID in case of LVs since the mapping's UUID is VG+LV UUID together) and /dev/disk/by-id/dm-name-... (which encompasses the VG and LV name in case of LVs). This patch addds /dev/disk/by-id/lvm-pv-uuid- that completes this scheme and makes navigation a bit easier using PV UUIDs since one can navigate using PV UUIDs only and there's no need to do extra PV UUID <--> kernel name matching (the PV UUID is stable across reboots). This may come in handy in various scripts. Since we already have the PV UUID stored in udev database (as a result of blkid call - returned in ID_FS_UUID blkid's variable), this operation is very cheap indeed, just creating the extra one symlink. diff --git a/WHATS_NEW b/WHATS_NEW index 39e8b886a..5bb37d8ad 100644 --- a/WHATS_NEW +++ b/WHATS_NEW @@ -1,5 +1,6 @@ Version 2.02.106 - + Create /dev/disk/by-id/lvm-pv-uuid- symlink for each PV via udev. lvcreate computes RAID4/5/6 stripes if not given from # of allocatable PVs. There are 2 alternatives here: To revert this change for current release, since this rule was added to "make navigation a bit easier using PV UUIDs", as the commit says. We would worry about installer changes in the next release. Another possibility would be to change the logic inside "grub-mkdevicemap.c: make_device_map()->grub_util_iterate_devices()" to ignore all symlinks from /dev/disk/by-id/ containing lvm-pv-uuid-*. We would not have to worry about this in the next release if using debian-installer. I'm choosing this option because ubuntu foundations already faced a similar situation, when grub-mkdevicemap.c file was removed from grub2 code and they re-added it by using a quilt patch, assuming it was the easiest and better to maintain. I'm doing something similar, patching the patch that creates grub-mkdevicemap.c file again. Another option would be to change grub-installer package/logic. Unfortunately, a few days before the full freeze, I don't think messing with the instaler would be a good option to avoid regressions (potential regression item would grow in significance). So I'm going with (2) and providing a MR for Eoan to be reviewed in a few moments. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lvm2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838525 Title: LVM setup fails to install grub on virtio storage Status in debian-installer package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in debian-installer package in Debian: New Bug description: Comment #26 has the TL;DR version of the problem. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1838525/comments/26 [Original Description] The Eoan debian-installer ISO fails to install GRUB on LVM installs with virtio storage, as it runs grub-install with /dev/mapper as a target (a directory), even if instructed to target a device. We modified ubiquity to present an “EXPERIMENTAL” (with warning) ZSYS install option. This option is only visible is zfsutils-linux is installed on the system. So, it won't be available for derivatives that use ubiquity but do not seed zfsutils- linux. Update as of 20/09/2019: the plan is to not seed zsys (security review will take a while), but to only seed zfsutils-linux. People can then opt-in to zsys which should be available by default next cycle. This option takes an entire disk and have a fix set of dataset installed. There is no support but we need this to make an official install option for the next LTS. The patch has been created to be as minimal as possible. Partman does a full disk partitioning, and then the script zsys-setup the first non-ESP partition and replaces with zfs pools. 4 partitions are created: 1. if GPT partitioning: ESP partition. This one is done by partman directly. 2. bpool (for boot), pool with older zfs compatible version to be readable by grub) 3. rpool (for / and userdataset) 4. /boot/grub (ext4) to contain a single grub (NOTE: this could be later on moved to the ESP) Additionaly if a swap file has been created by ubiquity, it is recreated as a ZFS volume. If the script fails to execute, the final installation is an ext4 installation on entire disk. Note that the implementation is slightly different from the specification due to a difficult cohabitation with partman in the custom partitioning page. We could see units not getting started properly, and communication between different services break down (e.g. between systemd-logind and other processes). + + In this case, the regression potential should be low as these patches + have seen extensive testing both upstream and in more recent releases of + Ubuntu.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1847088] [NEW] Cups appends extra page with %EndDocument %%EOF to every print
Public bug reported: I am using cups with a printer connected via samba. The Printer is a Kyocera Taskalfa 5021ci. Every print I make through cups results in a last page with only %%EndDocument %%EOF on it. I've tried to debug this further and if I print with smbclient directly like this: $smbclient -W DOMAIN -U USER //server/printer Unable to initialize messaging context Enter NET.CHALMERS.SE\jochens's password: Try "help" to get a list of possible commands. smb: \> print test.pdf putting file test.pdf as test.pdf (1947.9 kb/s) (average 1947.9 kb/s) smb: \> it works without the extra page. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1846787] Re: systemd-logind leaves leftover sessions and scope files
** Description changed: [Impact] Scope file leakage can cause SSH delays and reduce performance in systemd [Description] The current systemd-logind version present in Xenial can leave abandoned SSH sessions and scope files in cases where the host sees a lot of concurrent SSH connections. These leftover sessions can slow down systemd performance greatly, and can have an impact on sshd handling a great number of concurrent connections. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1551623] Re: [SRU] package gconf2 3.2.6-3ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed
Sorry, completely forgot about it... :-/ So bug 1828639 is now fixed. I guess no need to fix gconf triggers now? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gconf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1551623 Title: [SRU] package gconf2 3.2.6-3ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed Status in gconf package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: [Impact] During system upgrades, triggers for gconf2 might activate too early, while some of its dependencies aren't configured yet. This happens several times in a loop and stops the upgrade in the end. The attached debdiffs fix this issue by changing interest to interest- noawait in debian/gconf2.triggers file. The triggers will now activate near the end of upgrade. In addition, the debdiff for Bionic also contains a fix for FTBFS (bug 1834211). [Test Case] Triggers for gconf2 are usually activated on changes in /usr/share/GConf/gsettings folder, so the main Ubuntu edition (with GNOME) is most suitable for reproducing the issue. To reproduce it, install that edition, apply all updates, then try upgrading to the next release. [Regression Potential] None, interest-noawait trigger is known to work well in other packages (comment 31). [Other Info] Even if Cosmic goes EOL next month, the fix for it might be worth it for release upgrades. [Original Description] When upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04Beta (2016-03-01), this error occured, alongside many others related to systemd and gnome. Please find attached the MP on ubiquity as well as the package build log. https://launchpadlibrarian.net/442036321/buildlog_ubuntu-eoan- amd64.ubiquity_19.10.10~ppa1_BUILDING.txt.gz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1843768/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

In my case: moshe@moshe-desktop:~/New$ grep . /run/resolvconf/interface/* nameserver 127.0.0.53 moshe@moshe-desktop:~/New$ cat /etc/resolv.conf # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN # 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver. # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers. nameserver 127.0.0.53 The difference from Zoltn's issue is that I don't have the lines: options edns0 search home During the upgrade which was done using Wi-Fi, the connection went down but it was after the download completed so the upgrade ended. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to resolvconf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816530 Title: DNS servers are not being set in the system correctly when you upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 Status in resolvconf package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I upgraded my 16.04 to 18.04 before the official release. After the upgrade I noticed that I don't have internet access. The wired network and the wifi settings looked good, but the internet didn't work. After the login the system always switched itself into airplane mode. I tethered the network via USB and Bluetooth by my mobile but they also didn't work. I found a useful answer from @andrew-woodhead666: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/665374 it seems this bug is still not fixed for the upgraded dists in the main release and affects a few dozens of ubuntu users. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1021884/no-internet-after-upgrade-from-16-04-to-18-04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/1816530/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1800965] Re: Browsers don't display Devanagari script correctly
+1 on this. Some ligatures are not rendered: eg, त्र is showing up as त् र (two letters) with the default Ubuntu, because of this "Raghindi" font setting. Changing it to (in my case) Noto fixes the rendering. I made the change in my home directory (.config/fontconfig/conf.d/). Please change this system setting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to fontconfig in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800965 Title: Browsers don't display Devanagari script correctly Status in fontconfig package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: In the file /etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-nonlatin.conf the "Raghindi" font family is specified for devanagari script in Serif and Sans-serif style while "Lohit Hindi" in monospace. On the other hand, the Raghindi font is not installed by default. Because of this, the web browsers including Chrome and Firefox don't display the script correctly. A lot of people struggle to correct it by manually changing the settings in the browsers and partially succeed. The problem can be completely solved by replacing "Raghindi" in /etc/fonts/conf.avail/65-nonlatin.conf with "Lohit Hindi" or any other pre-installed font.
