2020-02-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That was the correct kernel to try for December 2019, but now 5.5 is
released so please try that :)

[Samsung Notebook 7 Pro, Realtek ALC256, headphone jack] Headphone
sound is faint and distorted (but works fine in Windows)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I can't get sound of my laptop (Samsung Notebook 7 Force) through the
headphone jack. The speakers work fine.

When I plug a headphone, I can hear the sound being played very
faintly. If I bump the volume to the maximum, that is. The sound is
very distorted, like a buzz effect being applied over it.

I noticed that if I delete /.config/pulse the distortion goes away,
but the sound remains very low. After some time, the buzzing effect
  comes back.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1850702] Re: [Samsung Notebook 7 Pro, Realtek ALC256, headphone jack] Headphone sound is faint and distorted (but works fine in Windows)

2020-02-04 Thread Filipe Garrett
Updated the kernel to the 5.4 as suggested and it didn't make any
difference: sound through headphone jack still is low and heavily
distorted.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861958] Re: DisplayLink Connection to Multiple Monitors fails

2020-02-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You seem to be using the "oibaf" PPA which is not supported and is known
to cause bugs. So we can't support this system sorry. Please try using
'ppa-purge' to remove the PPA and then report a new bug if the problem
persists.

Your kernel version also appears to not be from Ubuntu(?). So we also
can't help with that.

adding

Bug description:
I just updated to the Ubuntu 19.10 beta. After boot, I'm shown the GDM
login screen (which I shouldn't; I have auto login enabled), and
logging in just takes me back to the same user selection screen even
  though the password is correct.

If I switch to a TTY and run `sudo pkill gnome-session-binary`,
logging in through GDM starts working again.

I should add that the do-release-upgrade was rocky; I did it in a
terminal from within gnome, went away for a while, and when I
returned, I just saw an Ubuntu 19.10 in a TTY. I was able to do `sudo
dpkg --configure -a` and complete the upgrade, but I don't know if
something's still messed up due to that.

New terminal windows appear in the background

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu release: 20.04 Focal Fossa
  Package version: gnome-shell 3.34.3-1ubuntu1, firefox 72.0.2+build1-0ubuntu1

Expected Behavior: new Terminal window would be foregrounded/focused
on creation via ctrl-alt-t when another terminal window not already
  focused

Actual Behavior: if Firefox, e.g., is currently selected/focused,
ctrl-alt-t produces a Terminal window that is backgrounded (usually
behind the Firefox window), along with a pop-up desktop notification
  stating "Terminal is ready".

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1857902] Re: Thread-safety bugs in package libpoppler-glib8

Title:
  Thread-safety bugs in package libpoppler-glib8

Status in poppler package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
There are these bugs in libpoppler-glib8:

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/issues/845
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/issues/846

The first is about sharing cairo_font_face_t instances in multiple
threads which is not thread-safe. The second is about accessing global
linked list struct without proper synchronisation mechanism.

Due to these two bugs poppler+cairo cannot be used for rendering
  multiple documents in multiple threads.

The second may be potentially security vulnerability for applications
that use poppler+cairo in multiple threads due to writes to
  potentially uninitialised pointer.

I noticed that poppler source package contains a lot of patches from
ubuntu updates. Would be possible to add patch to this problem to
  ubuntu (and also debian) updates?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861642] Re: Random Restart Crash(stillg etting thes eon top of other submit i reported(Maybe something to do with video settings)

2020-02-04 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Network Manager not saving OpenVPN password

Status in NetworkManager:

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Eoan:
  Fix Committed
Status in network-manager source package in Focal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [impact]

network-manager no longer correctly saves VPN passwords

  [test case]

on a 19.10 (or later) system, configure a VPN with network-manager and
provide a password that it should save. On next connection, it will
  prompt for a password again.

  [regression potential]

as this adjusts how n-m handles connections with secrets/passwords,
any regression would likely cause secrets to fail to be stored for
later use, and/or failure to correctly use the secrets at all to setup
  the connection.

  [scope]

This is needed only in eoan.

  The patch:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/cf557bf06f344bdbcd775dce35daa42335c645d7
is included in the 1.20.6 release:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/issues/230#note_283402

focal-proposed currently has version 1.20.8, so this patch is already
  included in focal.

This bug was introduced after version 1.18.2:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/issues/230#note_235976

disco-updates has version 1.60.0, so this patch is not needed in disco
  or earlier.

  Hi everyone,

After upgrading to kubuntu 19.10 I can't save the VPN password using Store
password for this user only. It seems the integration with the kwallet is
failing somehow...
The system logs seem to show that everything went ok, but the password is not
saved:

args="vpn.secrets" pid=14142 uid=1000 result="success"

This also happens with a clean install.

  Operating System: Kubuntu 19.10
  KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.5
  KDE Frameworks Version: 5.62.0
  Qt Version: 5.12.4
  Kernel Version: 5.3.0-24-generic

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861408] Re: firefox apparmor messages

2020-02-04 Thread dinar qurbanov
i have added these lines:

in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/gnome :

@{HOME}/.local/share/gvfs-metadata/** r,

in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/xdg-desktop :

owner @{HOME}/.cache/mesa_shader_cache/** rw,

and messages (i use aa-notify) when saving disappeared.

dbus_method_call messages still appear in logs, while saving. i do not
know why they are not reported by aa-notify.

Actual Behavior: if Firefox, e.g., is currently selected/focused, ctrl-
alt-t produces a Terminal window that is backgrounded (usually behind
the Firefox window), along with a pop-up desktop notification stating
"Terminal is ready".

Systemd crashes when logging very long messages. This regression was
introduced with
upstream commit d054f0a4d451 [1] due to xsprintf.
Commits e68eedbbdc98 [2] and 574432f889ce [3] replace some uses of xsprintf
with
  snprintf and fix it.

Bug description:
  0.26 was released in April

  http://www.exiv2.org/whatsnew.html

"This release contains a large collection of new features, new lenses
and bugfixes across all areas of Exiv2. "

Presumably debian stretch freeze interfered with a prompter update

  Currently in debian exp here:

  https://packages.debian.org/experimental/exiv2

I was hoping to to get a new feature release of the very popular
Digikam (5.7.0) into artful under a FFE, but that has bumped the
  minimum exiv2 build depend from 0.25 -> 0.26.

If due to rdeps etc an update in artful turns out not to be possible,
I would like to target this for early in 18.04 LTS cycle.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

nouveau.

@all: are you able to use auto-login if add the following line to your
/etc/X11/Xwrapper.config and reboot?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861481] Re: language-options causes live CD sessions to be untranslated

2020-02-04 Thread Sebastien Bacher
(untagging from rls tracking since it's not impacting Ubuntu Desktop,
doesn't block us to work on a fix still)

Title:
language-options causes live CD sessions to be untranslated

Status in accountsservice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Since Ubuntu 19.10, for all Ubuntu live CDs that use LightDM (e.g.
MATE and Xubuntu), if a user selects a language in syslinux other than
those with an included langpack, the session is then untranslated.

For example, if one boots Ubuntu MATE 20.04 and selects Greek in
syslinux, he ends up with LANGUAGE=en in the session.

  The chain of events is:
LightDM has an Ubuntu-specific patch that makes it call
/usr/share/language-tools/language-options instead of the upstream `locale -a`.
`locale -a` does list el_GR as a supported locale because casper correctly
updated the locales.
But language-options doesn't list el_GR, so it fools LightDM into thinking
that Greek aren't supported; while they're all there, since e.g. MATE doesn't
rely on langpacks; mate-panel.mo and mate-calc.mo etc are all there.

I believe the correct fix would be for language-options to list el_GR
on live CDs (to merge the output of locale -a in its output).

  Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861757] Re: Missing libgcc_s.so.1 decrypting partition on boot

2020-02-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
devel-proposed series contains knowngly incompatible and broken packages =) why
are you using something that automatic CI is telling us is broken?
As soon as CI passes packages migrate to devel (release) pocket and are then
usable for human consumption.

Booting with the previous kernel works.

Found this question with an identical issue:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1190687/ubuntu-19-10-missing-lib-gcc-
  so-1-after-kernel-update, which points to "/usr/share/initramfs-
tools/hooks/cryptroot" being unable to find that lib. It was looking
in "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/", but libgcc_s.so.1 is not there, but at
"/usr/lib/" and "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/". Temporarily fixed by
copying the file to "/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/" and regenerating the
  initramdisk.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1853638] Re: BCM57416 NetXtreme-E Dual-Media 10G RDMA Ethernet device seems to be dropping data

2020-02-04 Thread Nivedita Singhvi
Hey Edwin, sorry, I didn't see your last question.

I'll try and confirm but I've seen loss in both
directions but it's not clear whether that's significant
enough or not yet.

e.g., TCP traffic is retransmitted, so it could be segments
lost while outgoing or acks lost incoming.

4407 retransmitted TCP segments
130 TCP timeouts

in stats collected about 5 mins apart - which isn't
sufficient a sample size, we're trying to get a new
collection of stats, logs using the netperf TCP_RR test.

In our case, note, we're more concerned (and have more solid
data) of latency issues than dropped packets (which I expect
some of with heavy network testing).

For example, netperf TCP_RR latency is about 70-78% of the older
systems for 1,1 request/response byte sizes as well as 64/64,
100/200, 128/8192 sizes.

I'll update here as soon as we have more data from the production
environment.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1748839] Re: Problem to connect to WPA2/PEAP WIFI - gnome-shell

2020-02-04 Thread Xavier G.
I also have the problem with 18.04.4 LTS (up to date at time of writting). It
seems to be related to the Wifi infrastructure since the problem appeared for
me a few months ago (running successfully from May 2018 to Oct 2019).
However many other devices can connect successfully to the Wifi Infrastructure
so there should be an incompatibility with it.
The problem is with the following Auth: WPA2 Enterprise, PEAP, No CA check,
automatic PEAP version, MSCHAPv2.

Basically, I didn't do anything fancy, but audio recorded with my

Booting this computer on Windows doesn't have issues, so that's why I

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1861645] Re: PC fails to shutdown.

2020-02-04 Thread You-Sheng Yang
@ppshenoy, could you reboot with following kernel parameters and paste
the screenshot (probably by camera) when it stuck at shutting down and
syslog file?

  1. replace following line in your /etc/default/grub:

   GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

 with:

   GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="systemd.log_level=debug"

  2. run `update-grub` to update grub config
  3. reboot with aforementioned changes
  4. shutdown and take a picture of messages printed in the console mode.
  5. attach both the picture and syslog

Title:
  Thread-safety bugs in package libpoppler-glib8

Status in poppler package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
There are these bugs in libpoppler-glib8:

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/issues/845
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/issues/846

The first is about sharing cairo_font_face_t instances in multiple
threads which is not thread-safe. The second is about accessing global
linked list struct without proper synchronisation mechanism.

Due to these two bugs poppler+cairo cannot be used for rendering
  multiple documents in multiple threads.

The second may be potentially security vulnerability for applications
that use poppler+cairo in multiple threads due to writes to
  potentially uninitialised pointer.

I noticed that poppler source package contains a lot of patches from
ubuntu updates. Would be possible to add patch to this problem to
  ubuntu (and also debian) updates?
